ABOUT TODAYS VIDEO: How To Stop Blood In Your Dogs Stool
So how can you stop the problem fast and set about doing the best for your dog long term so the problems doesn't return?
The very first thing you must do is get some Slippery Elm remedy and there will be a link to my personal recommendation in the description below and at the link above.
Slippery elm is natures wonder herb for leaky gut, stomach problems, IBD, Pancreatitis, Diarrhea, respiratory ailments, kennel cough, urinary problems and in this instance, it's perfect for soothing a distressed intestinal lining, causing the blood to show up in your dogs stools.
Slippery elm is a species of elm tree that has been used medicinally in North America for hundreds of years. Native Americans discovered the abilities of Slippery Elm to make balms and salves to repair wounds, heal burns and to treat psoriasis and other skin conditions. It was also used to soothe oral conditions such as sore throats, coughs, and help relieve diarrhea and stomach problems.
If you have a dog with an unhappy gut, slippery elm has proven to be very effective, quickly making them feel better.
Slippery Elm has a substance named mucilage that's a polysaccharide which becomes a gel once mixed with water. This mucilage is derived from the internal bark of the tree and because it's slippery and slimy, it's given the name “Slippery Elm”.
Slippery elm bark powder has been used in certain cultures as part of their normal diets due to its nutritious content. It is rich in nutrients and antioxidants that promote recovery. Its antioxidants and vitamin A, B complex, C, K and minerals, calcium, magnesium and sodium help support skin health by eliminating free radicals that cause aging.
The mucilage gets to work quickly to soothe and coat the mouth, throat, stomach, and the intestines (the entire digestive system) while absorbing toxins, bringing much relief from health conditions such as Respiratory ailments such as Kennel Cough, Leaky gut, Constipation, Gastritis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Acute Diarrhea (see: how to stop diarrhea), Colitis, Vomiting, Pancreatitis, Stomach and intestinal inflammation and Cuts, abrasions and burns by pulling out toxins, relieving itching and promoting fast healing.
Use the powder form, it's more economical and easier to sprinkle on food as dogs seem to like it and it's completely safe. Wonderful for cats too.
Feed 1/8 tsp for small dogs, twice daily
Feed 1/4 tsp for medium dogs, twice daily
Feed 1/2 tsp for large dogs, twice daily

Question from Ireland 🇮🇪 Dan . I rescued a staffy . He was bit thin . Think he had worms. I have him 6 weeks and got worm dose 3 weeks ago . He’s put weight on and is in great mood and full energy. His stools are very hard but just slightly laced with a shade of blood . Nothing strong it’s like a light web of blood through the full stool . I hope is a mild problem in gut or intestine. I can cure with slippery elm powder . I heard panic when it’s bloody diarrhea and weak dog . I am on welfare and am wondering should I get dog in vet asap or do what you say . It’s just I have a feeling he has been like this for months beforehand I got him

@@cathaldowdall7467 No health history is tricky but most likely it's gut inflammation causing the blood. Slippery elm should sort that out and then focus buget on decent fresh foods mostly.
So eggs, meats, canned sardines, organs like liver and some part cooked and mashed veg.
Local butcher will give you scraps/waste if friendly and the cheap stuff like trotters, chicken necks, green tripe are a real help.
The vet is more bills than help. No drugs, vaccines is better. Save for fresh food and natural supplements.

I'm dealing with HGE emergency at the moment. However, my eight-year-old dog has not been on commercial food for two years. This is the youngest of our three dogs, all adopted. When we got him and his "bonded pair" buddy, it was clear that they'd not received proper vet care and were each well overweight. After spending thousands on vet bills and dental care and with two years of good food they are both much healthier. This came out of nowhere and ....right now he's at ER vet ICU over night and I know it's too early to be thinking these thoughts but it sure has me thinking of the next dog addition we should for the first time ever be looking at a puppy and not taking the risk of adopting again.

Your welcome, always the go to in these instances. My this Sunday video is just about Slippery Elm and the digestive system.
Next I recommend adding in fresh food to the diet to boost the digestive system. Things like eggs, canned sardines (in water), part cooked and blended veg and some meat proteins. When adding these, take out 30% of the dry food. Oh and add these probiotics to all meals: amzn.to/3yoURqU

@Helerin I bought it in tablet form but you need to grind it. My dog is about 90lbs so I follow the instructions on the bottle for an adult human. If your dog is 40lbs use about half of the dosage. Try to get your dog to drink water which can be hard depending on how he/she has the diarrhea. In my case I gave it to my dog after 12hrs of bloody stool. I also bought probiotics and doble the dosage on the bottle. I went to the vitamin shop they have Ora trust your gut probiotics and I gave it to my dog in addition to the slippery elm.
I hope your dog gets better! Let me know how it goes.☺️

Hi Dan, nice to see you doing Videos again. Today is Sparky's (my best buddy who passed away 3 months ago) Birthday, he would be 17y now ;-) i miss him like crazy !! a few weeks i adopted a "new" dog ( i always said i never want a dog again) but i changed my mind , i miss having a pet around me, while i am alone at home. Pyper is the name of my Shelter dog she is around 5 years old. A hound (Beagle face) To be honest i regret already adopting this dog ! she wakes me up every day at 6am demanding food and walk !! She is so food greedy (and fat) she pee in the house a few times , doesn't play and wont listen at all ! I feel like a Food vending machine to her! She is the opposite of my Sparky, who was the best dog ever. I am thinking to return her to the shelter! Now i know, why people dont want to adopt older dogs !

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  2 года назад +3

Hi Frank, good to hear from you. Yes adoption dogs can be difficult with previous conditioning.
Maybe your best with an 'itsabitsa' AKA Heinz57 or in plain speak, a skinny mongrel that's wanting to please.
You'll also need to look into how to lead your dog so your the boss and the dog falls in aoround your needs first. Cesar milan is good for this.
Dogs eh... you've been sucked in again!

Hi Frank, my dog is still a puppy but he is so strong, he lunges (not sure how you spell that word) at dogs in the park and anyone he knows whom allows him to jump on them. Anyhoo, I'd had to get a trainer to help with lead and have been recommend a prong collar. Though you will need to find out how to attach and how to train. Additionally, I had to starve my doggy for 24 hours before the first training session. It may be useful to use the food you give him as training food, to get him to do what you want. Then hopefully he will settle into your routine. Try adding some raw food just in case she is missing sumfink in her diet. Not sure what to do about the peeing but it could be to do with marking territory. Got mine from pup, so was able to allow him in patches of room and house, any trouble, back in crate. It was so cold when I got him that he soon learned to sleep through till morning for peepee and some trial and error mishaps. I'm sure if you do a RUclips search you will find some help. I'm a novice so only have a bit of advice. It's so hard to get them to see you as Alpha, and I feel your pain.

You'll get some jelly in the diarrhea, that's the remedy and is fine. Yes, gets better after. May need to fast 24hrs (water only) after diarrhea, just to clear out the system. Small meal after that to check all is well, then normal again. Give plain coconut water to drink after these episodes and during fast to rehydrate and give some electrolytes.

Hi Dan. Would you consider doing a video on what supplements you should be giving your dog daily/ weekly/monthly? I feed my boys a raw diet, GV & ACV daily. But what about things like garlic, diatomaceous earth, colloidal silver, coconut oil etc? ... how often should they get these things? My poodle is allergic to rice. GV has something called stabilized brown rice bran. Is that rice? My bichon is allergic to beets so I can't give him GV. Is there a probiotic you would recommend for him? What protocol would you suggest in lieu of heartworm meds? I'm sorry for all of the questions. I know you've addressed some of these things in other videos. Would you please provide the links if easier. I appreciate your videos so much and am so grateful for the valuable information you always provide.

Hi Esther, it reads like your already adding great supplements. Yes it's the bran from brown rice, basically everything bar the skin. This still leaves all the vitamins, minerals ect, something white rice misses.
For an alternative probiotics, this one is excellent, 12 strains: amzn.to/3xqa2i0
For heartworm I'd use the Black Walnut, Clove & Wormwood Extract: amzn.to/2S8paBE
Here's the video on this: ruclips.net/video/2LkzSgeOpGw/видео.html
Garlic is for probiotics, gut health, deworming. Silver is the go to antibiotic: amzn.to/2UXexmC
Coconut oil is good for yeast but many benefits... just did a video on it: ruclips.net/video/0GY2fisNHMI/видео.html
DE is for detoxing and bugs. Again, I did a video on this.
A good thing you can add to your dogs meal is hemp seed oil: amzn.to/3vDdtjX Great for omega 3's and full of vitamin E. A better option than fish oil, again, I shot another video about this.

Our 21/2 year old Belgian Malinois has a good amount of mucus in her stools for about a couple months now. Had a blood test and poop sample done, and supposedly everything came out ok. She was on antibiotics for a week and at that time her poop was normal, off the antibiotics, the stools went back to being mucusy. Gave her for about 4 days of organic probiotics and organic slippery elm. She mainly eats organic chicken and rice, sometimes my husband will give her the food he eats.

    • @DanScott1

Start to lower the carbohydrates in the diet and get them down to under 10% as they cause inflammation and may be part of the mucus issue ie rice. Also try soil based probiotics: amzn.to/3yoURqU
Slippery elm was a good idea.
Think extra raw eggs, canned sardines and part cooked and blended veggies. Also add lots of antioxidants: shrsl.com/3uv38 or even the seniors bundle: shrsl.com/3uva6

Hi Dr.Scott, my dog has those symptoms of bloody diarrhea and mucus in the stool. He's 15 years old and has been on k/d diet (with 2 supplements- azodyl and epakitin). ordered the slippery elm which arrived today. how much should I feed him given he's 8lbs and is not very active in general and for how long should he be on it? And if he can continue to be on his kidney supplements along with these? Your input is greatly appreciated!

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  9 месяцев назад +3

Won't affect kidney supplements use. Feed on empty stomach, mayy in a bit of plain yoghurt. 1/2tsp once daily. It's nutritious also so can use until the blood stops.
I 100% recommend fresh food in the diet as I know that the k/d won't cut it nutritionally speaking. So cut the meal in half at least and replace the half taken out with soft boiled eggs, canned sardines like these: amzn.to/3vaXrj6 and some part cooked and blended veggies. This will help so much more than the k/d. Go slowly introducing the foods and build up. I'd also add a tiny amount of soil based probiotics: amzn.to/3yoURqU start them really small at 1/4 dose and, again, build up over a week or so. This will help the gut to heal better and improve digestion. The new fresh foods will help with health and better energy.
And if you choose to, adding some antioxidants will also help a lot with gut health given the the health situation and won't affect current parmaceuticals used: Greens: shrsl.com/3uv18

Hi Dr. Scott! Thank you so much for all of your help in treating my dogs!
My 17 yo Pomeranian has been eating Dr. Marty’s raw freeze dried dog food for a few years now. She has now been extremely thirsty but vomits when she drinks too much… and now blood in her stool. I’m definitely going to get the slippery elm but should I take her off of Dr. Marty’s dog food as well??

Hi Drea, yes, use the slippery elm. You could swap the Dr Marties for another freeze dried option such as Bixby Rawbble Freeze Dried Raw chicken - amzn.to/3YH6GVD
Bixby Rawble - Freeze Dried Lamb - amzn.to/3kDbUmX
I made a video recently on the top 5 freeze dried options and Bixby came out on top.

Hello. I came across this video in search of how to help my puppy. His stool had been runny with bits of blood in it. He's still very much active and seems fine until it's time to poop. He's also eating beneful ( wet food). Never had an issue with this brand. He also eats my cats food. I'm hoping the slippery elm will help. I honestly can't afford an expensive vet bill.

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  2 месяца назад

Give the slippery elm on an empty stomach, maybe in some water/plain yoghurt or milk. Once daily for the week. Should stop the blood in stool. Then start adding some fresh food options to the meals not just the pet food. Think egg, meats, sardines and some of this freeze dried greens as it has so many supplements in in one: amzn.to/49w0bKR 1/2tsp once daily in food.
Start small and build up to 50:50 beneful to fresh foods.

If you feed kibble, the best thing to do first is remove 50% of the kibble from the bowl and replace with raw eggs (preferably organic), canned sardines (in plain water with skin & bone intact: 12 Pack Sardines - amzn.to/3vaXrj6), some part cooked and blended veggies like broccoli, kale, green beans, spinach, brussel sprouts, bok choy etc and some meat proteins such as chicken meat, even better.

If you want an excellent, VERY low carbohydrate kibble at just 5%, (high carbohydrates cause chronic inflammation, with itchy skin, yeast, poor gut health, ear infection, UTI's and hot spots, and nearly all kibbles are 40+% carbs!).
Ketona has high protein at 47% (dogs thrive on proteins), correct fats at 15% and natural additives, so have a look at Ketona Kibble: healthydogforlife.com/KetonaKibble. I recommend still adding the fresh foods even with the best kibble.
By introducing fresh foods, really lowering carbs use, introducing greens, omega 3's, proteins and a better more suitable kibble, your dog will respond with healing and improved health over the next 12 weeks.
      Some must do's:
Zero vaxx once adult (auto immune disease issues)
Very low carbs in diet (cause of inflammation)
No vet drugs, there's effective natural alternatives.

Best given on an empty stomach, maybe in some plain yoghurt. The drops work, base dose on a 150lb human, then give 10% of that dose. So if it's ie 20 drops, you use 2 drops.
Also keep hydrated with some small drinks of plain coconut water through the day.
The diet must be fresh food based now, not kibbles. Think meats, eggs, canned sardines in water, part cooked and blended veggies.. that sort of foods. You'll want to slowly transition onto fresh foods.

The daily serving amount on the package or what you are suggesting.? Just don't want to upset my baby anymore.....Hope to hear from you.....a newly subscriber

SWo the whole corn cob? or broke it up and swallowed the bits? Did she pass all the bits? or is there any sign of blockage or strain passing?
If it's all out but she's now sore in the digestive system, hence the blood, I'd give Slippery Elm Bark Powder - amzn.to/3CbHXx0 on an empty stomach for relief, to de-inflame and stop the blood.

Slippery Elm Bark Powder - amzn.to/3CbHXx0
Give between meals with some plain yoghurt or something the dog likes.
Then you'll want to add some fresh foods to the dry food. So take out a third and replace with eggs, meat proteins, canned sardines in water, and some part cooked and blended veggies. The gut will be inflamed and this is a good way to soothe and stop blood and the improved diet fixes underlying issues.

      Yes definitely for that.
Then you must improve the diet by adding fresh food like raw eggs, canned sardines and part cooked and blended veggies. Will improve things fast. Pups need fresh food and lots of it, hence the issues (unless there's infection or something I can't know based on the information Ive been given).
And no vet drugs is best.

I'd fast him 24hrs water only and give Slippery Elm Bark Powder - amzn.to/3CbHXx0 while fasting, maybe add it too some of that yoghurt if needed.
His gut is inflamed and fasting will rest it while the sliperry elm coats and soothes the entire digestive tract to bring down the inflammation. Then start from scratch with small meal of more fresh food based meal like eggs, sardines/fish, veg, meats organs with a little kibble if that's what you feed. Keep carbs low so very little rice, oatmeal just ok (not a great dog food). No vet drugs/vax either.

I changed my dog from small batch beef to small batch duck, and she had a slight reddish tinge to her poop. She’s never had duck before only pork chicken and turkey as well as her beef. So I was wondering if it was the new food that could’ve caused it. Well, not new food. It was the same brand just a different protein. I moved her back to her beef and I’m gonna wait and see if it clears up. The reason I tried duck is because I know that she is allergic to chicken and turkey not really allergic just that she gets watery eyes, so I wanted to find a different poultry item as I like to rotate her proteins land sea and air.

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  2 года назад +1

That's a rough diet because it has no balance, hence the issues. There must be a diet like this: chicken leg/quarter, a little extra plain chicken meat, some canned sardines (in water) 1/3rd can, 2oz part cooked and blended green veg and one soft boiled or raw egg. A meal like this will heal her.
Add to this SBO probiotics: amzn.to/3yoURqU
This improves digestion. Use them ongoing but start small and slow, build to normal serving over a few days to avoid upset.
This will stop the constipation, if there's any more constipation though, add extra veg to the meal.
Now if theres still some blood, use Slippery Elm Bark Powder - amzn.to/3CbHXx0
Give 1/4tsp to medium dog 2x daily in between meals, direct by mouth or in a little plain yoghurt. This will soothe and coat the entire digestive system to ease the issue and stop the blood which is a symptom of leaky gut your dog is experiencing.

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  Год назад +1

      Here's what to do:
Feed the slippery elm on an empty stomach, add to some plain yoghurt or something.
Lots of great information below to follow as best you can and will make a good and positive difference.
If you feed kibble, the best thing to do first is remove 50% of the kibble from the bowl and replace with raw eggs (best) soft boiled (ok) and preferably organic, canned sardines (in plain water with skin & bone intact: 12 Pack Sardines - amzn.to/3vaXrj6), some part cooked and blended veggies like broccoli, kale, green beans, spinach, brussel sprouts, bok choy etc and some meat proteins such as chicken meat, even better but not essential.
If not liking to prepare vegetables then these freeze dried greens are antioxidant packed to help protect cells from free radical damage, cellular repair, support immunity, joints, skin issues, heart and eye health: Core Immune CARE Greens: shrsl.com/3uv18
Now your dogs getting live enzymes, probiotics, Omega 3 oils, the highest quality proteins and nutritional assimilation from eggs (100%), and antioxidants, minerals and vitamins from vegetables and freeze dried greens.
Always add a quality probiotic to improve digestion and gut health: (skin issues/UTI's/yeast/itchy dogs) use this one: amzn.to/3yoURqU and for all other dogs use this one: shrsl.com/3uv7l
Zero vaxx once adult (auto immune disease issues rife from over vaccination)
If Rabies is mandatory, use Protect after shots: (Humic & Fulvic acid) amzn.to/33P2P1i
Very low carbs in diet, 10% or less (cause of inflammation, poor gut health and later, cancer) No vet drugs, there's effective natural alternatives (always!)
Feed a healthier diet with at least 50% fresh food in it.
NO white foods ie white rice, potato, pasta..

Use oregano oil for all antibiotic use. Smal dog 1 drop, larger dogs 2 drops, you 3-4 drops in spoon of oil and swallow once daily for 7 days then stop.

My dog has black poo, and it has lost all its weight and it won't eat much and it has become hard for it to move. I'm trying everything to help the dog but now I've noticed it has black poo. Can you please tell me what does this mean? Is it bleeding internally? I noticed it also has a hernia. I did take it to the vet and the vet gave me tablets to give it but it hasn't done any good. Had ultrasound done and blood test and charge me $600 I'm very concerned and thinking that maybe the best thing to do is to put it down as it is in a lot of agony, and I cannot afford to do operations. You're my last resort maybe you have information that may help. Seriously worried.

There would be a few things and Kidney health indicates issues here too, along with gut health. The blood test will tell you whats wrong, have the vet tell you?
I'm not sure that this can be turned around, I have no history or blood test results.

Please help me!!! My senior dog is 15 years old, cocker spinal mixed with maltose. He is passing black stool, not eating (we are giving him food through syringe and he is slowly drinking water again), doesn't do the same activities, he is losing his mobility. Can this remedy help him gain his strength back and stop the black stool. The vet informed me it could be an infection in his intestines. But it's not confirmed. I will be going in for an ultrasound next. Please, I need help.

Hi Jo, yes great idea and will bring relief. 1/4tsp twice daily in food or better still between meals with a little plain yoghurt. Plain coconut water is also a good rehydrating drink with some electrolytes. Slippery Elm Bark Powder - amzn.to/3CbHXx0

It should be, you'll have to look for it and it's what you need for this situation.
Be carefull not to give cooked fats. The diet must have fresh raw foods in it like raw eggs, various meats, canned sardines, other fish meats and lots of antioxidants from veggies or freeze dried greens.
Keep all carbohydrates to a minimum. If you only feed kibbles, take out half and replace with the above fresh foods.

      He is recovering well.
can i slowly introduce Boiled rice back into his diet? right now i am giving him royal canin gastrointestinal wet dog food along with boiled vegetables and fruits and egg.
I used to feed him Royal canin maxi adult as kibble, i have stopped for now, also is coconut oil good for his condition right now?

@@anupamanup4263 The most important part here is the fresh foods equaling the canned food, so 50:50 canned / fresh.
The canned is sub par nutrition, they all are! You want 50% of the meal as raw eggs x3, some meat proteins ie raw chicken, some fish meat, some part cooked and blended veggies, a little fruit.
A liitle coconut oil is ok, does not cause pancreatitis. 1full tsp per meal.
Boiled white rice is an issue, pure carbs, quickly turnes to sugars, so only minimal use for dogs, keep 10% or less per meal. Unless dog is super active, then 20%.
If eggs are the cheapest option to chickens or fish, feed lots. Great dog food.

Fasting 24hrs is necessary, water only. Then start some bone broth: amzn.to/38AZ3uX
Get some Slippery Elm Bark Powder - amzn.to/3CbHXx0 and give daily 1/2tsp med dog in some plain yoghurt for example when dog is empty (betweemn meals). This will coat the digestive tract and stop the blood.
And then after all that, start adding some fresh food to the mix like raw eggs, canned sardines and part cooked and blended veg with a good probiotic at every meal: amzn.to/3xqa2i0 and the dog will come good.

Fast 24 hrs water only and during fast on empty stomach give Slippery Elm Bark Powder - amzn.to/3CbHXx0 That will stop the blood and soothe the digestive tract. Then look to give a small meal at first.. then you'll need to change up the diet some or the problem comes back.
Try taking out a third of what you normally give and replace with fresh foods such as eggs, meats, sardines, organs and part cooked veg to help improve health and stop the issue.

is Chinese elm tree same as slippery elm tree?

    • @DanScott1

Ulmus rubra, the slippery elm, is a species of elm native to eastern North America. Other common names include red elm, gray elm, soft elm, moose elm, and Indian elm.
So Chinese elm, same genus but may well have different properties.

Yellow bile is usually from an empty dog that's maybe smelt some food and is thinking about eating. This produces stomach acids which have to be expelled and come out as yellow frothy bile.
