In the end it’s a business and it has to be profitable for you to remain in business. Don’t let the trolls get you down, even offering data recovery is a risk. I’ve been watching your channel for a year now and appreciate every video I’ve viewed. Thank you for all the great content.
You can only do what you can do… that makes sense…
Thanks for the video Jason…
I have a feeling I may wind up revisiting this one. :-)
I would call that a restauration and not a repair job. Cost far above the value only for collectibles an paid on an hourly basis ;-)
Thank you for sharing all that videos. It's always crazy to see how precise you are with these tiny parts and how you build up conectors out of nothing with the speaker cable.
Lol, “Here’s a new screen, now fix my phone.” 😂😂😂
Jason, I have had the fortunate pleasure of having to use your services twice over the course of the last several years. In both instances the most I did was change the screens on the devices, discover that there was more wrong with the device and/or the backlight may have been damaged by me despite my best efforts to keep that from happening, and sent them your way when I knew I was in way over my head. I never want to run ANY chance of making your job harder than it already is and this is a mentality that I will continue to maintain for any professional in any field. I wish more people in this business had the same mindset that I do because it sounds like these rehot devices are killing you.
Just the breakdown/diagnosis is hugely entertaining and helpful. Lotta insight in a simple vid like this.
You can swap board and recover data. A10 CPU is easy to swap, i will make a video.
Entertaining even if it’s a “no attempt”. Thanks for your honesty and showing things as they really are. Way to go, bud👍
Since I got my channel, I've been getting a lot more junk for repair... as if people would think that you can really work magic.
From this year I had to hang out extra costs if a previous tinkering attempt prevents the repair...
Hey as always appreciate your honesty! That customer may not… but that’s life! Hope your trip went well!
Thanks for the upload. Fix or no fix it's always cool watching your videos. Love hearing your opinions on the jobs you get sent. Hope you're making money though. 👍💰
Thank you 😊
Please don't cry. Some of use are happy to watch you even bother to look at stuff like this.
"I'm sorry, I *repair* phones. I don't rebuilt them from paperclips, fairy dust, chewing gum and one new part."
Why don't you? Sounds like a profitable niche! :D
Most interesting part is the technician can remove the components and install the filter but not know how to properly diagnose the fault or at least know where those lines goes to.
"Oh we replaced a couple filters"
_board's metal shields are gone_
This is like towing in a car where the previous mechanic said on the work report "replaced oil and filter", and you open up the hood and the radiator is missing. That's 1950s mechanic scammer type stuff right there.
Good call... 100%
To work after other workshops, for us technicians is pure disaster tourism 😬😱
Yes, they try to ruin our lives! 😂😳
Jason, idol
I’m big fan of your sir
Still a good video. It’s sad what passes as a repair shop these days…they totally destroyed that phone because they had absolutely no idea what hey were doing. I probably could have done a better job…yes I don’t know phones…but I did do troubleshooting on PCBs. I now to fully look over the board before I start recovering or adding things. :). Live confidently and peacefully
It was still an interesting video Jason and I am equally happy to watch ones like this or a repair. 👍
You must raise your fixing pricing up. You got only the best Juice of pig hands.
I want see your working place please show your setup
Hello Jason, saw that you took part 2 down of this video. Hope to see you soon man. Hope you are well. 👍👍
Should be back up within the hour. I ran out of disk space while encoding and didn’t notice it. I accidentally only uploaded the first 18 minutes! RUclips is ingesting the full length video now.
@@ststele looking forward to it. 👍
Excellent diagnosis. Pity it's a write-off.
I honestly can't blame you dude. I would not work on this board at all! Pay your bills, feed your family, and everything else isn't important.
P.s any idea where I can buy that scope attachment you have to connect the camera? I just got a trinocular (been using a stereoscope with one eye piece for the camera) and I have no clue which attachment to buy lol
Dude... you have been doing all of these streams and videos with one eye? 😲That is actually quite impressive. Everything is more difficult without depth perception... honestly, I don't think I could do it with one eye! The adapter I'm using was purchased a long time ago just by chance. I measured the fitting/threads on the camera and the hole on the microscope slide adapter thing that came on the scope. I ordered a 0.5x adapter that had the right sizes on both ends and it just worked. It's really not good though. I'm losing a *LOT* of viewing area (maybe as much as 50%). Unfortunately, I don't know exactly where I bought it to be able to recommend though. Paul Daniels has a much better setup and I believe is using a 0.75x adapter. Zoomed all the way out, I can't fit an iPhone CPU in the camera view. It's actually a pretty big problem and I'm gonna fix it soon!
@@ststele haha yeah but in fairness I can't use my left eye properly anyway. I have an issue where too much light gets into my left eye and if I'm using the scope it's fuzzy in the left eye, so I'd probably still be using one eye lol.
The problem I think with field of view is I think you need to add an extra lens to the setup for the trinocular port. I remember someone saying something about a 0.5x in conjunction with a 0.35x does the trick but I could be wrong. Think I'm going to have to pull the calipers out for mine lol
@@TheCod3r I'm in the same microscope boat! Just picked up a Parco trinocular and it came with a piece to go in the camera port, but I figured there would need to be another lens involved since everyone else's setup seems to have that additional long skinny lens. I'll let you know if I find a definitive answer!
@@joshedagg thanks man. Yeah to be honest I find all this microscope stuff confusing. I'll find a shorted 0201 capacitor all day but give me something as simple as a microscope and my head goes all fuzzy 😂
Happens allot and you should charge 3x to fix theses kind of mess.
The screen was wrong, its a 6S screen 🤣🤣. The reason for the shields missing i believe is due to the water damage, they did the right thing by removing it all to proper clean the board, but once the phone showed more problems, they didn't bother to put them back on.
That’s hilarious! I didn’t even notice that’s a 6s screen they sent along. 😮
Anyone who gets mad at you for not attempting this repair has never dealt with a nightmare repair before. They take weeks off your life.
I do the screens batteries charging ports etc but I dont play around and do crap like this If I dont know how to fix it I send it off to someone who can do board repairs.
Current value of an used iPhone 7 is maybe 100$ , due to that it makes no sense to send in such old phones for repair any more.Only exception is rescue of valuable data.
Yes exactly! :-)
Why does it seem like some of these shops are more like stealing ICs?
heya well I know you CAN repair it but how much time you need for it doesn't out way the cost of it. and then there is still the warranty isue because this probable wil come back, yes.
next part
❤️
Hey Jason what kind of mat is that? Does it tend to bubble up with hot air? I’ve used ones before that did that and it was quite annoying lol
Hello, this is just a standard soldering mat that I bought on Amazon. I think most of them bubble up with hot air so I've just learned to expect it. I try to use a board holder most of the time so the swelling isn't an issue. Underneath the mat is still my cratered up burned bench top from back before I didn't believe in using soldering mats.. LOL :-)
It’s a 7. Toss it!
In a situation like this where a repair shop "repairs" (damages) an originally repairable device beyond repair, is there any way to sue them for the value of the destroyed device?
There are no guarantees in life or electronics I think that why repair shops have such stringent repair policies because of people want to Sue
how much price flexbv in india
great video ... sir
Thank u!
Yep that is screwed to the point of buying a new one made more sense certainly. Maybe the customer had no clue and thought what the heck may be an easy fix.
watched your video 16 apr 2019. all i can say is look after no 1 and family. enjoy life its too short little ones grow fast so be involved never get that time back. you like a challenge. work out a balance work and family. i enjoy your videos but not at the cost of health or sanity best wishes
Goddammit...
I am really a novice in diagnosing these kind of electronics, but I would have catched that 100%.
WhyTF such repair shops are not being closed by some government oversight institution?
And this model has a public BV and schematics. How hard is it to stick a multimeter pin in? And returning the board without some chips, that sounds so russian style (channel of Ассоциации Сервисных Центров)
Hey - It's an obvious NMP !
Not My Problem !
WOW! This was too basic to mess up! Probably a trigger happy tech
Roll the dice bro! FIX IT!
I roll the dice WAY too much. I’m gonna need the green light for data access only on this one. I won’t charge some huge fee or even ask for the passcode. I just need them to not pin me down for a like-new functional phone.
@@ststele From what I've seen you do. You could easily fix this with little to no issue. But I totally get it. Some people will always try to take advantage of a good situation and unfortunately more times then not, talented people are the ones who end up paying for it. And not in a good way.
I love your work. Its very inspiring.
Sloppy seconds. NO
@@josephlarrybradley508 Nah I don't look at it like that at all. Fixing other peoples mistakes has a reward of its own.
@@Silentjackll yup.. give em an inch.. they take a mile.
Bit of a Catch22, ie, the convoluted repairs are the best to watch, but you're probably not going to make enough YT $s to cover the extra effort.
I have a sneaky feeling this is about to turn into a part 2. I’ll rename this video to include Part 1 if it does! Only if the customer agrees to data access only.
3rd one to comment can't be that bad right? Great video!
Not worth repairing.
Back to the customer.
Thanks for the peek inside.
nice video anyway
Thanks. I think I may wind up posting a follow up. I just have to make sure I’m not held on the hook for a like new functioning phone.
Repair roasts are my favorite kind of drama content :^)
I’ll bet that when the customer took there phone to the shop the shop has taken the board out and replaced it with another that was dead and had been used for donor parts
I bet that’s the last time they take a phone to Stevie Wonder mobile repair.
Am I the only one who senses a home repair gone bad?
That phone looks like it was dropped into maple syrup then put into a chicken coop, what a mess! How do people even let their phones get like this?!?!
why did you just delete the video
It was only 18 minutes long and I didn’t notice until posting. This video is 1 hour long. I’m working on getting it reposted with full length now. Sorry
I hope you charge a fee for your time inspecting it
got more chance of fixing my ufo :o)
i am from india i want to talk to you
using simplier english will bring more fans from abroad :) no offense
Thank u 🙂 No offense taken.
Maybe the repair shop stole the chip and said we fixed it but still doesn't work, an iPhone chopshop.
what is that TOTAL GARBAGE lol.
Part 2 video is coming soon :-)
Slacker!!!
Lol! If I get the green light for them only needing data access - I’m all in. 💪
1St View 1st Comment!! Love your stuff btw!
Thank you!
Observation - people who post first commenter and the like are so damn needy :) Hey dudes, get a life. Thanks for the video Jason
Jason, if i was you i would just reject it!.
The owner used lies and bullshit to get you to look at it.
I don't like deception 😞
Yep, no mention of liquid. 😮 I think it would be straight forward for data access but there’s just no way I’m gonna let myself be hung out to dry for a fully functional phone! Walking away would feel much better I think. :-)
@@ststele Always walk away from trash like that, it does you no good mentally.
When i used to repair radio equipment, i had pointless units sent to me.
After getting really stressed out quite a few times, i learnt to say no.
I'm sure you get hyper stressed out, don't make yourself ill with junk phones.
I do actually know how you feel as i was the electronic tech in a factory, just me with no help.
Mental illness was the end result.
Im not mad... well just a bit lol 😀
@@zx8401ztv Seems like we had the same job.
@@jeremywilcox But i never saw you, why didn't you help me lol 😀
@@zx8401ztv Oh I understand. I think I live in a constant state of being hyper stressed out due to the devices I allow to come in. I'm trying to slow things down a bit though.
