  • This is the crowdfunded die-cast U.S.S Enterprise from Tomy. I modified the base to add spot lights, a wi-fi relay, and a sound module that plays a 13 minute montage of ship effects when you press the button or activate by voice command from Alexa. I do similar mods with my other vehicles and figures. Video is just me walking around it with an iPhone but it captures the look and feel of it in my room.

      😂 Yeah - a lot of negative comments can probably be traced back to promises made by Tomy on multiple videos that you would not see any seams or evidence of screws. So, the backers’ expectations were very high - myself included. When they didn’t deliver, I was very disappointed - but in the end, I still think it is an awesome replica and I’m glad I didn’t back out. Your commenter should check out the secondary market prices 😊. Enjoy your ship!!!

    This is how every fan pictures their model in their head, great job on the whole production. Listening to this video is proof of the incredible sound scape they created for the series. Those sounds were just as important to the show as the visuals. I truly respect those sound engineers, the unsung hero's of Star Trek. And the sound trigger button you installed looks factory, that's really impressive.

    Beautiful job of lighting! Looks great for just using your phone. I'm hoping you do a vid with something other than on your phone. And steadier. She's a beauty.

    Light leakage through the secondary hull seam and the screw plugs are a real let down especially since Tomy said they would patch them :( The Master Replica is definitely a better model.

    • @MDLAV8R
      @MDLAV8R  6 месяцев назад +1

      I don’t disagree about the plugs and seams. But looking back on the purchase (I was a backer), if I knew everything we know now and it was available today for the $599 I paid (including shipping AND tax) I would still buy it in a heartbeat. I’m not alone since as of today (3/24/24), the average price of the last 5 sold on eBay is $1800 (including shipping) - and that doesn’t include tax which for me would put it just shy of $2k.

    I have mine still sitting in my den in the brown Tomy shipping box. I'm looking for a place to display (which my wife will allow:) I've read on several threads that you can't leave the saucer section "unsupported". Is that true?

    • @MDLAV8R
      @MDLAV8R  11 месяцев назад

      Congrats. You’ll love it. I guess I’ll be a test case for long term saucer droop because I’m leaving mine unsupported. But balance-wise there is no problem as long as you don’t bump into it. Totally understand the wife part lol.

    • @chrishuisman769
      @chrishuisman769 11 месяцев назад +1

      That's not true. The entire assembled ship will sit comfortably on the main display stand.

    • @lutherfoust5483
      @lutherfoust5483 11 месяцев назад +1

      I think it will too. However, I have no proof it will...I bought a hat stand (clear stand and clear one a clear plastic cup and will make my own support)

    • @inkermoy
      @inkermoy 10 месяцев назад +2

      Personally I'm not risking it on mine. Mine sits on the dining room table so bumping could be an issue. The thing is a beast, all pretty much made of diecast metal, but perched on a wobbly base with 2 plastic pegs going into the secondary hull. Will the plastic eventually dry out and become brittle? Will stress from a little bit of wobbling cause cracks in the plastic? Who knows.
      If you have pets, probably want to use the saucer support.

    • @DennisCosteaJr
      @DennisCosteaJr 9 месяцев назад

      You could almost attach a Command hook with the removable tape pull-tab to the bottom of the secondary hull then figure out a stand design to interlock with the hook's "face". Since those come in various hold strengths and "claim" not to leave any residue when the hook's tab is pulled to release it.
      I would want to test that idea out on a less valuable mock-up object and see whether it proves correct. Only logical.
      Some finest Starfleet engineering and improvisation that would pay tribute to the original designers pulling this off in the first place!
