Thank you
Thanks! I looked around and could not find anything on Tomy's site.
Thank you
Yes, thank you, I joined the list to get one, glad I found this.
Will we be able to buy it next year?
I love my Tomy NCC-1701 no bloody A, B, C or D. This refit will take it's place next to her. Two gorgeous ships!
I'm building the Polar Lights version now - and I have put magnets on all Air Locks in order to have the Pods attach to the Secondary Hull, torpedo bay and the bridge...
Looks ok. It’s probably worth it if you are unable to make your own from the polar lights kit.
The paint job needs a serious overhaul on the final product. It has some bizarre color choices. The strongback color is off as the A was the blue grey color with some remnants of the green that is the refit. The design on this is also from the A. That hard gold on the bridge dome is way off.
Defuse the inside of the warp grill with a light coat of white and install the lighting on the roof of the grill side. Works great each time.
It's a great time to be a fan. Between Tomy & Wand co. we've got excellent props & ships. I never thought there would be better ships than the M.R. Enterprise.
I wish Wand would reintroduce their Phaser. Hard to believe they were only $149. Now they are over a thousand if you can find one. I have one.
Thanks for the update!
USS Reliant next plz! XD
Thanks for sharing this. I am so glad that TOMY is filling the void for those of us who don’t have the talent to build one. A amazing collectible that is in my budget. Thanks again!
Refit and K't'inga.....my two favorite ships from the whole of the Star Trek universe.
For me, Refit, Miranda and Bird of Prey… epic
Refit has the perfect aesthetic.
@@PMurgatroyd-k2sAgreed!
Thanks for the video! Both of these replicas are a far cry from the AMT U.S.S. Enterprise I built at the age of 10 in 1967. As such, I am grateful to TOMY+ for their efforts. I already have the TOS version and despite the "dropped ball" issues (i.e.; screw holes, visible seams, etc.), the overall features (IMHO) VASTLY EXCEED the shortcomings. BTW - I have left instructions with my Family that upon my demise, BOTH ships are to be buried with me!
I"ve got the one that Master Replicas came out with a while back and that Tomy one looks pretty good and I was pleasantly surprised how quiet the nacelle motors are. They did a great job with the TOS enterprise. I'd be tempted to get the refit.
You should! I will look great with your MR Enterprise as it will look great with my TOMY! For 700 bucks that's a price that can't be beat!
Thanks for this review, Stuart!
I love my last tomy enterprise so much I can't wait to add the the collection
They should probably change the final clearcoat to more of a satin rather than high gloss finish. Interior of motion picture shuttle bay is more complicated and deep than the A so that may be why the doors are closed.
I agree.
A shame though. It’s beautiful with all the detail and different shuttles/pods.
My main issue is I’m out of room but I may grab into passed on the TOS cause I already had an unlit polar lights prebuilt
yes will get one to go with the one I got last year
When I first saw the pictures of the person holding the die cast, I was excited. Then I saw it on the base, and just like you, I DON'T LIKE IT. It needs to be level, not tilted down. I wish they wouldn't have the vertical lights in the nacelles as well. They could smoke the backside of the blue, to defuse it maybe.
Thank you, Sir. I have last year's. It's just gorgeous. Even if it wasn't lit that paint job is just a joy whenever I see it. I'm more into the original, but definitely going to get this one too!
I went to the Smithsonian a few months ago and saw the enterprise there... was really surprised on how similar our Tomy Tos looked. From the untrained eye it looked the same... just larger. Was really cool to see and makes me appreciate mine even more.
I love your office there by the way I'm looking forward to this release of this diecast refit I see you have the ships of the line calendar on the wall I see you have July there I've got the same one that's a pretty good shot of Enterprise a being pursued by the Klingons
I'm 100% on board IF they fix that weird angle on the stand.
That will be fixed. The production model will be level.
I didn't pick up the TOS one. The refit had always been my favorite....this looks amazing....but man do I love strange new worlds enterprise!
Thanks for the info and link. I'm on the wait list. I missed out on the TOS and not going to make that mistake again.
I will not miss this one like I did the TOS one 😎
@@Beatleboylevi I can't believe so many Trek fans were unaware of the TOMY TOS. I visit Trek sites weekly and that is how I found out..
@@Anth230 I had honestly no idea about it. Never saw it until after the campaign had finished and I visit a lot of Trek groups. I don’t know I guess I was just an unlucky one
@@BeatleboyleviThat sucks. I luckily found out about two weeks before the end of the campaign.
@@Anth230 yeah I hope to get one in the secondary market but not for $1.5k or $3k like so many are going for now
@@Anth230 I'm one of those that didn't know anything about the original until long after the fact. I was way bummed, but I called the Tomy outlet store on this past Jan 29th just to check if they might have any returns or a waiting list for returns and surprisingly they had some available, so I bought three for $599 each, only I had to pay $30 each for shipping. I'm still not sure how that happened, they were supposed to be long gone by then but I got three. So I'm glad to know this time around cause I doubt I could luck out like that a second time if I missed the boat this time.
It's definitely worth the price if you factor in the costs of the polar lights model kit, painting, aztecing, optional LED lighting kit...etc.
I just hope TOMY gets the details right.
Yes, my quote is from unboxing. They did reach out over a month ago and I was desperately biting my lip not to say anything.😁
It's coming home of course and it's worth every penny.
They reached out to me as well. Didn’t use any of mine though. 😜 Congrats man.
I’d love the D and the K’Tinga. A DS9 and USS Voyager could be cool.
I agree, the purple/blue nacelle grid needs diffusion and color correction. But above all else, please get those warp engines straight and level.
Thanks for the information. This is the first I have heard of this. I got the first one and I want the refit also. I do have a question if you don't mind, what is the screensaver running on your computers in the background ?
The warp sled was my first model after TMP came out. I loved that thing.
... and totally geeking over your Bubo :)
Did a complete video on him.
So after watching the most recent 4K color corrected director's cut of the motion picture (the color grading on previous releases including the theatrical version were terrible) the strong back does look cool gray Robin egg blue, inside the deflector dish should be gray when off. I don't see any gold plating on the bridge module. And the finish should be satin instead of gloss.
TOMY stated they are working on making the colors more accurate on the production model vs. the prototype they’ve shown so far.
I'm hoping that the shuttle bay does indeed open, but it's not a deal breaker. One good thing about the Refit is that all those hull panels provide plenty of ways to hide the screw holes this time, and I'd imagine most of the little issues we see on this prototype will be addressed in the final version
The hangar deck will be open, lit and detailed.
Will buy two like before.
My favorite Enterprise.
I built a Refit back in the 80's and it took a long time. At that time had no idea how to get the Aztec paint. So I used different shades of metallic silver, painted by hand. There weren't lights then. But it looked good. Wish I still have it. When I lost my house I lost it as well. Maybe I will try the Polar Lights model someday.
I have more of a connection to this ship than the TOS one so I think this will finally push me to buy it. I was so bummed out about missing it last time but I’m more okay now with how everything turned out. I just really didn’t think this would happen again!!
I want the Drydock too!
Unfortunately for me, resistance is futile. This ship was my favorite so I will be on board with this one. I REALLY hope they've got a galaxy class in the pipeline.
I can't wait to get this
Thanks for your comments! I decided to go for this. Always loved this ship design.
Someone commented that the bay will be open and detailed! If that’s true that would be great 😊Great review, Subscribed
Thanks for the sub! Hope you enjoy the content.
Those blue painted highlights on the hull are too bold/prominent. I'm sure they are likely following strict movie production instructions, but that's not how the paint looks in actual footage. Those blue highlights are barely detectable when you watch the movie.
I've seen really well done 1701 refits that have a more subdued blue/grey hue for those highlights and it looks much better and more in line with what we see in the movie.
Edit: This could just be the lighting in the images and that the actual model/prototype looks subdued. When the model is being lit by the spotlights the blue is less prominent.
I'm sure it's fine.
Overall, this looks great and a shuttlepod that could dock would be fantastic! 🙂
Apparently, this is the 1701-A paint job. A commenter on another video said that TOMY has been made aware that the blue highlights are not TMP accurate and they will be addressing it.
Interesting. We'll see.
It would’ve been awesome if Tomy consulted with Lou Dalmaso especially on the Aztec paint scheme!
Agree with the warp nacelle’s but I prefer blue instead of purple. But what is going on with the paint scheme around the deflector and strong back. Long distance shots looks like the A colour scheme. Close up it looks like a combination of the two. I was under the impression the refit was a combination of greens? Also the warp pylons inner plating looks like 3 different colours going on there.
Things that would hook me. Open shuttlebay/cargo bay, fix the warp lights, add shuttle pod and shuttle craft.
As a model builder I am pretty picky with the detail of the models I build. I saw the photos of the first diecast they did and the seam lines turned me off. For me it was once I see them I can not unsee them. i was not sure if I would regret not getting that first diecast. I wanted to support them but not for something I would not want to display. Of course there will be people that say I could buy it as an investment and sell it later but I do not like doing things that way. So now that the TOS has been done and shipped I do not regret getting one. I feel that it will be the same for the refit. Again as a modeller I am lucky that I will be able to build my own 1/350 refit. I actually have the kit and the paints. I am also going to add my own electronics. Yes it will cost me much more than $700US but I get to build it my way. For those that are not modellers I am glad that they now have an option of getting their own 1/350 refit.
Yeah this is for people that aren't model makers and don't want a glorified plastic toy. The metal diecast element is also appealing because of the weight and substance, I'm sure it feels substantial in your hands.
I've been kind of intimidated to start building my polar lights models but this just makes me think I should pull the bandaid and get going on that instead. Seams just drive me crazy. For that price they could use some putty.
I never even heard of Tomy until today when I saw a Facebook ad and signed up for the TMP immediately. I can't wait. I have no idea what to do with my dozen random sets of the Eaglemoss build TNG D. They're worthless. And they would "throw in" random sets and charge up to $70! I felt scammed after a while. And with easy math it would be $1,200 by the end of that one. (Not including the "extras") I mean, I do love the TNG shuttle set but I was already spending too much as it was. (I took a break in the 30's of the regular Eaglemoss ship collection a year prior) This die cast model is amazing. I can't wait for TMP. I'd be in Stovokor if the D came out soon after!
Oh yeah, and can I have that shirt, please?! 😂 Love it!
Tony has been around since the 1920’s in Japan. They made the wind up and motorized Zoids toy line of dinosaur and beast vehicles (think Gundam but animals), as well as many die cast and wind up Japanese toys going way back into the 70’s and 80’s. They merged with Takara a while back, but international products sell under the TOMY name.
If it is fullfilling for you, go for it!
Thanks! This review helped me reach a decision, I was on the fence, but I'm joining the wait list.
I hate the stand, otherwise I would love this but I just don’t have the space
That Surak is a wreck, hopefully it gets re-thought or dropped.
Only available in the US. I get so pissed off when companies like this gets non-American fans (like me in the UK) interested then tells us "Sorry, only available in the USA." and if you really want one, expect to pay over $2,500 for one from a "scalper" on eBay. I'm really angry and jealous about this.
Get a friend in the US to get you one and they can mail it out to you. It will cost you shipping but at least it won't be $2500 bucks.
If it's any consolation Corgi are developing a Die cast model of the Refit/A. Admittedly it's not as big but following Corgi's TOS & D Enterprises it should be pretty good.....& Readily available here in the UK.
I hope they change the buttons on the base. Maybe more subtle. Or make them delta shaped.
that refit is a beautiful piece. if i can afford i think i'd get it.
I'm gonna have to sign up for this refit Enterprise. Also need a Reliant and Enterprise E. Maybe also K'Tinga and Bird of Prey. If they made those I would buy them all.
I tried to look around the net, anyone know if playmates is going to release a new ship this year, I am a bit behind and just picked up the TNG Enterprise, hope they keep putting out ships
Thanks for the overview, I cannot wait for this one, however I maybe blind but I could not find any information for shipping internationally, such as to the UK?
Yeah sadly I believe it’s only US and apparently Canada for this one. 🤷♂️
You can use a freight forwarding company to have it shipped internationally
It does look really nice generally, but I'm not a big fan of just how GOLD they made the bridge part. I know it's supposed to have a bit more of a platinum color to it in the movie but it's a very subtle shade as opposed to this really strong gold, and considering it doesn't seem to have as much of that florescent aztec pattern overall as well it just makes the gold stand out more amongst all the white.
I know it's a really small gripe but it really jumps out at me in the pictures. It's quite nice for a completed model otherwise though definitely made for the dark since the lights and spotlights look like its biggest strength.
That will be fixed.
This is a great video. I’m going through the playlist on your recommendations and views!
Quick question: you mention the polar light 1/350 scale with lights. Does this come fully completed too?
Hopefully they improve on the TOS release. No photos showing the starboard side of the model so far so are they hiding some plugs on that side? I hope it will look amazing and can’t wait to see your review when you get one!
No they’ve stated that this prototype is plastic. But yeah I was wondering about the other side of the model as well.
Short answer is all refit enterprise models are worth it.
Spare no expense on that bad boy
Its compelling. I have my polar lights one Im suppose to be redoing but bc im focusing on school right now and also trying to find a better job. Its crazy just like the Fanhome/Eaglemoss Enterprise D this thing is going to be battery powered. Thats one of things I don't like. im intrigued for real i may consider it if they offer it later maybe i can make it a christmas present to myself.
Strongback detail should be green-grey, not blue. It went blue for 1701-A.
@@NCC2087 if you go back and watch the 4K color corrected version it is a cool gray Robin egg blue. The original theatrical release and everything up to the director's cuts had terrible color grading.
@@Headcase650 - Paul Olson, who painted the TMP Enterprise says sage green. That’s what I’ve seen anyway.
TOMY reports they are working on making the color on the production model more accurate than the prototype.
@@JiminSTLouis - Thanks for the update!
If they ship to Canada this time around, I'm so in!
They will be shipping to Canada.
I've been tempted to pay my model bloke to do the Refit Polar Lights - this one will cost about 15% of that. Just gotta figure out how to get it to Australia.
I’m looking forward to getting mine! The 1701 refit is my all-time favorite Enterprise. I missed the TOMY TOS Enterprise and don’t want to pay the aftermarket price now. I completely agree about the ship not pointing down. I really hope they fix that. I’m glad they didn’t hide the buttons on the ship but I agree with the folks that have said they wish the buttons on the base were more subtle.
They are going to fix it.
Actually the Refit is 100 bucks more. The TOS was 599. The Refit will be 699. Still a great price IMO. Can't wait! So excited for this to go with my TOS!
Oh and the prototype shown is in plastic not diecast. Of course it will end up being diecast but for the promotion it was built in plastic.
Also there will be a detailed shuttlebay interior and officer’s lounge as well.
Oh that’s great to hear.
How do you know the prototype is plastic and that the final version will have a detailed shuttle bay and officers lounge? I've seen no info stating any of this.
What does the Fire Control button do? Light up the torpedo bays?!? Sound effects?!?
Not sure yet.
I hope I can get that ship from Australia
I'm debating this. My fear is the end product won't look as nice as the promo pics
They say it will have no visible nuts or bolts. Hopefully meaning no screw covers.
I could not justify the TOS one-beautiful though it is. I can't make model kits well enough so if I was going to get one it would either be this or a painted polar lights one . Again-cannot really justify the expense.
What you see is what you going to get just like the last one fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me 😆
Will the Refit saucer section have the flood lighting for the Name and registry on the top and bottom? i didn't see any thing that displayed those features.
Great question. Still waiting to hear more.
@@StuartFoleyCaptainFoley I hope thjey information for all that. would be sad to not have those features.
Thanks for this nice review! The rear nacelles numbers and letters might be too large, that seems to be what is off ?
Would love to get one. But with the exchange rate it still might be too much for an apartment-dwelling Vancouverite. Plus those nacelle lights should be better for the price.
I freakin' hate that tilt forward display posture. Who was the @$%* who decided that was a good idea?
The production model will not be like this. It will be level.
Should light up step by step like in the movie - need to find a parcel forwarder :D
I noticed the large seam on the primary hull top; could that possibly be removable to show an enlarged bridge underneath.
Similar to the 25th anniversary diecast from the early 90’s.
After the TOS E. Am very leery on how it will really look. Also the paint. They will do the Mattel hotwheels style. The pearl will be tampos. I compare their TOS E to my MR E.
I took your advice and don't use the saucer section stand. I have not had any issues.
Good to hear.
As long as it has lots of glowing shit, I'm in.
Seeing as the shuttle bay opens what scale, and where could one find, shuttles for it?
If they have options for Canadian buyers, I’ll order one.
Apparently they will for this one from what I have heard.
@@StuartFoleyCaptainFoleyhave you heard anything from any New Star trek ships besides the tomy Enterprise like the others like eagle Moss did a few years ago I like them a lot and the small ones were inexpensive live long and prosper
you know I think the real problem with this is they need to make a second prototype that is closer to the actual production model, as this is a big leap of faith to spend that kind of money on a model that you really dont know how its going to turn out, and for the paintjob, looking close, its using Metalic Flake paint, while the original was opalecent with no flake
and its reminding me alot of the Johnny Lightning Diecast model and you make some fair points about the lighting as well
also I think the painting looks alot like the QMX continuation companies paintjob on the enterprise D model they make, which I think was featured in a tested video you were in actually
the one about the Frigate they used to replace the F, with the Enterprise G there, you were in the background checking out the models, and I'm not sure if it was in that one, or the other one where they showed the QMX continuation models really
and its got that same weird look to it, like you just cant replicate airbrushing with diecast. and it needs a wash to look more flat so the detail can look more uniform and form properly
as its the weird thing about the design, the opalecent paint helps make the ship seem stronger as it looks more uniform, when they actually took that away it made it look more dull and parts meal
especially with the blue bits that in the filming turned grey, its something you really note with the excelsior vs how it was portrayed latter where in filming for the movies, it looks strong, sleak and futuristic
then they get to CGI and left all the blue bits on it and didnt color correct to make it look right
which was something that even happened with the enterprise D too, where the glow and paint would merge to give it a purple hue around its buzzard collectors
as its one of those things, nevermind how it looked on stage, you want how it came across on film
also the actual prototype is bending, the engine is sagging on the right and it seems like this are not aligned properly
as I've been thinking about this since adam savage showed it on tested, and while it is impressive, its also huge, expensive, unwieldy and not due for damn near a year
and they really shouldnt have a limited opening for this, like I'd like to see a proper mark II prototype that's closer to the real thing
also you wanna talk about a stretch goal, how about having the option to switch out the bridge with the original design for it, it was in the original press photos and basically the bridge from the TOS enterprise itself actually
until they had a water drip onto the saucer when it was in storage and had to be replaced in a hurry, given it was wooden and had swolen up
but overall I applaude the effort but for that kind of money, well I can get something for about 1 to 2/7ths of that that would do the same thing that was made over 20 years ago in kit form
that wouldnt take up 35 inches, weight 20 pounds, plus another 30 for the packaging
and I already built my mark II version of the refit myself finally, and fixed the JJ design, by simply remounting the engines properly so the air ducts go under the saucer and are in their proper position
like in the original concept art where it had the TOS paintjob on it via the F toys model of it that I broke the mounts off on purpose to reposition it so
and its sitting right next to it downstairs,
I do wonder though, does Tomy take requests, wonder if I could get them to do the interceptor from spyhunter 2001
NOW THAT I WOULD BUY lol
I gotta have it, but I hope the nacelles won't sag to the side in the final release as they seem to be on this prototype.
To be fair they have stated that this proto-type is made of plastic, which I didn't know when I made the video!
@@StuartFoleyCaptainFoley makes sense. I should have realised that.
It mentions that the quotes are from satisfied customers of the original series enterprise
I'm glad I got the TOS version and now I look forward to getting this one!
Hell yes it's worth it!!
Awesome!
I love to get it but its way too pricy for me to get my friend lol
When does this go up for Pre-Order? Website only shows TOS version.
Where did you get that shirt?
printerval.com/ca/trek-starships-hawaii-shirts-star-wars-lover-button-shirt-trek-linen-beach-shirt-p670370
Hey Cap I agree that the paint finish feels off. Especially when seeing builds from modelers with the Polar Lights 1/350th. Yeah it is a shame about the inboard nacelle grills about not being purple. Hell even the 1701-A in TUC when it shows it at warp after they rescue Kirk and McCoy the inboard nacelle color is blue.
I wish I had the ability to light models. I'd build a 1/350th Polar Lights Refit with lights.
The storyboards for the Refit for TPM they wanted to do Saucer separation. So if it actually the case that would be awesome. I wish I could get this but way too pricey for me. I don't have my own income so can't get it. Although it would be cheaper for me to get the Polar Lights 1/350th.
I'd probably get a 35 inch Enterprise-D.
Can you share where to buy or download the Star Trek screensavers you have on those screens in the background?
Honestly, I'm going to buy it.
Can they fix the lighting on the warp drive? Otherwise it looks awesome!
The lights on the warp nacelles will be defused and not look like the prototype
Thanks.
TOMY please do VOYAGER. A worthy project for the future.
I guess I am in the minority here, but I prefer the ship powered by batteries over the USB. Now the ship can't be lit independently without it being mounted, plus it will have a big gaping hole at the bottom of the secondary hull, unlike the TOS model.
If it were a different scale maybe larger than 1/350 i would probably get one there's already 1/350 scale models of the Enterprises on the market
Not in diecast..
@@Anth230 I know that 🤷♂️ the material doesn't really make a difference to me I'm talking about the size I already built a 1/350 refit why would I want to spend $700 on one of the same scale ...why because it's metal?
@@scifiguy26 The fact that it's diecast... yes..plus to build a plastic one with lights and all the details will cost at least $400 not including time spent building it. Also most people just don't have the skills to make it anywhere near where it would need to be....
