Aang is one the few characters in media that makes me truly feel that pacifism and co-exist can work. That there is always another way to solve a issue in life.

One interesting question ATLA doesn't seem to explore is whether Aang owes anything to anyone. The assumption is that the Avatar has the responsibility to save the world because... why? Because he can bend 4 elements and has the Avatar state?
I'm honestly not sure that having power obligates you to do jack shit. Aang has as much of a right to decide his own fate as anyone else in my eyes, and responsibility is something you CHOOSE to accept or decline.

Unfortunately that’s not really how that works especially for Aang the people will always look to him as their protector and savior so no matter what he choose they’ll want him to be that hero. Plus every avatar is a reincarnation of the previous so I’m pretty sure they all have the same drive to protect others.

@@Venxous my gripe is that Aang did NOT choose that. The Avatar is this fucked up roulette where some child will be saddled with the "responsibility" of solving all the problems that adults didn't have the balls to solve. Hey, congrats, now YOU get to get burned to a crisp by the Fire Lord while *I* hang out at home! And you have to pretend that that's an acceptable system of morality or people will hate you for not solving THEIR problems!
Another IP does tackle this, pretty well actually. One of my favorite scenes in Megamind was when they found Metro Man. Roxie flipped her shit under the assumption that Metro Man has to solve the city's problems simply because he can, and she has a childish temper tantrum which gigachad Metro Man basically ignores because he's resolute about following the life he chose for himself. The first real choice he ever made. That guy had every right to choose who he wanted to be

@@B463L yeah you are not wrong, its is the forced responsibility that comes with his reincarnated power. That rationale is kinda the reason as to why avatar reincarnations are told to be the avatar at 16, (essentially adulthood in the avatar universe). As up to that point, all the nations know what the avatar is, and the role of the avatar, as the balance and peacekeeper. And so, at 16 when one is revealed to be the Avatar, they understand, that it is their place and role to do so, and undergo the rationale of, because i have the power, because i can, therefore i will, and all avatars live up to the 1000 year legacy that the baton has now passed onto the next.
That is more so the general stance of the avatars, Roku, Kyoshi and others before them, as paraphrased from the books, comics, and the scenes from the shows. The Avatar is the closest thing to "divinity" in the avatar universe and everyone knows that, and so, the avatar becomes the ultimate problem solver, as the avatar has the knowledge, potential and power to resolve any issues that transpire in the avatar universe.
As for Aang's circumstance in particular, and whether he owes anyone anything, His personal stance was, I owe it to myself as i wasnt there when my nation needed me, since he ran away in the "storm". He ran away from his responsibility, (even though that was actually the best thing he could have done to preserve "the avatar"). Once he was awakened, and realised the magnitude of the fire nations aggressions, Aang understood that he must fulfil his role, he owed his fallen nation, the world, and himself. To heal the world, and safekeep his culture so that he may no longer be, the last Airbender.

Love the vid man. Small critique though, your mic is really low and the music is almost the same volume so it's hard to hear you.
