Tom Taylor mentioned that Superman would never be that superman in Injustice. I think they changed him like they changed Wonder Woman for the sake of the story.

Yeah. The correct take on a Superman that deals with the loss of his love and the aftermath has already been done. It’s called Kingdom Come. Lois and the Daily Planet are all gassed by the Joker, but Superman never becomes a dictator, and even in his grief, fights *against* “superheroes” who embrace more violent and extreme methods like murder.

@@donovanlarsen7982 In Injustice superman was the gun like he said to Bruce. He thought he fought Doomsday but it was Lois and she died because of that, and his unborn child died as well as Metropolis also previously he finds Jimmy's body showing signs of being murdered by the Joker.
So when Superman confronts Joker he is still not calm from all the heartache and Joker keeps reminding Clark of his failures so he can't think straigt and the final straw is him making fun of Lois and his unborn child that he wonders that he can't protect his next family like he couldn't with Lois.
After killing the Joker Superman seeks out Bruce for a friend but doesn't get any support so he goes to Wonder Woman who guides him to all the wrong actions.
In the Injustice comics there are scenes where Clark thinks of backing down but Wonder Woman is there to shut down those thoughts.

@@donovanlarsen7982 He also builds a gulag to imprison the rogue meta humans against their will.
But yeah, his handling of the Joker’s murder spree in Kingdom Come is a much better representation of his character. Throughout it all, he never considered killing Joker to be an option; he is even outraged when Magog finally does it. And he becomes devastated when the public sides with Magog’s newer, more violent approach to heroism. Sure he goes into exile for ten years, but he still comes back to save humanity when things get too extreme. And as flawed as Superman’s approach is, it stems out of a desire to preserve the sanctity of life and protect the innocent.

@@matiasjauhojarvi9551 I disagree about Bruce's part. Even if he had given Clark support it wouldn't make anything better. He had already begun to impose his non tolerance approach in the world (an action that result in his father being kidnapped by the USA goverment). When Clark went to Bruce, he wasn't looking for a friend to help him find his way. He was looking for "yes friend", someone to feed on his frail ego. Sure, Bruce may have been bit harsh, but he wasn't wrong at point out his mistake, which Clark immediatly rejected, saying that "the joker deserved to die" and that "his actions saved people that Bruce would let die".
This is the thing about Injustice Superman: Bc of what Joker did to him, the guilt he feels for Lois's death, Clark is unable to accept his failures, choosing instead to blame others for his problems and lash out (something Wonder Woman made it worse). He claims he wants to make the world better for all, but in reality he's just doing for himself, killing anyone who can make him feel like a failure.

    • @MrPjw5
      @MrPjw5 4 месяца назад +16

Fun fact: mainstream DC put Superman through the mental anguish of losing Lois. Twice. The first time was with the Joker, the second time was with Manchester Black.
The one involving the Joker had him gravely poison Lois. The only way for Superman to save Lois was to create an anti-serum from Joker’s antibodies or something, but the process would kill the Joker. Superman had to either kill the Joker to save Lois or let Lois die so the Joker could live. In the end Superman let Lois die because she didn’t want him to compromise his moral code and become a killer. Although she came back to life a few moments later and it was revealed that the poison was not meant to be fatal after all. It was a sick joke all along meant to attempt to break Superman. But it didn’t.
The second situation involved Manchester Black after the events of “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?”. Black escapes from prison, finds out Superman’s secret identity, and marks everyone Clark has ever known or saved for death, going with Lois as his ultimate target. Black creates an illusion with his telepathy making it look like he killed Lois long before he made his announcement to kill everybody else. He then attempts to goad Superman into killing him. And Superman refuses to do it. This ends up breaking Black mentally because he realizes that Superman’s belief about the sanctity of all life was sincere. He then drops the illusion and reveals Lois was fine all along. Then Black kills himself.

The Batman would beat anyone with prep time is so infuriating to me. The idea was originated from and popularized with the Tower of Babel story, but that completely misunderstood the story. Batman had a contingency plan in the Tower of Babel because he was a leader of the justice league, and fellow leaguers came to trust him and share with him their vulnerabilities to grow closer to Batman as both a colleague and a friend. However, Batman betrayed that trust by not only keeping a plan to defeat them without their knowledge, but also exploiting the things they share with him during their conversations, and reflections. For example, Kyle Rayner said to Batman that his power requires his sight to manifest, and he is also powerful because his eyes allow him to see creative possibility in the world, so Batman's plan blinded him. Therefore, it was not a story about Batman capable of defeating the league, but about his paranoia and self-destructive behaviours pushes away the people closest to him.

I know Injustice gets a bad rep from people who love Superman, I get it I love Superman too.
But in the first Injustice game, we get to play as the "True Superman", coming over from the main timeline to save this broken world.
But I've always seen this story as a Batman story, not a Superman story. The 2 different Batmen being 2 different classical versions of Batman, that are in contrast to each other. One Bruce trusting in his friend Clark who always does the right thing. The other has been hardened by too many losses, And struggles to trust anyone. But he has to learn to trust again because Batman does whatever it takes to save the day.
And then Injustice 2 is clearly a Supergirl story. Even if our heroes fail to live up to expectations, Even if good people turn to evil, there will always be new people willing to stand up and fight for what's right. So in the Injustice universe Supergirl is the symbol of incorruptible good.

One thing that makes me so mad is that Batman picks and chooses who he wants to hold accountable. Superman should be held accountable to a greater extent because of who he is and what he symbolizes, yes. But then he has Harley Quinn on his team who is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people, one of his friends, and future God child. They say that she’s going to be held accountable and then they just don’t do that. Somehow the flash is in a cell, but she isn’t. Would Batman be OK with Superman hanging out with Joe Chill? Batman is also horrible. That whole universe just doesn’t make any sense.

Despite the 2021 animated film not being good as well, I will say it is by far the least offensive Injustice content we have.
Superman a little merit to becoming a dictator yet doesn’t become a crazed tyrant (yes tyrants and dictators aren’t exactly the same) and Diana actually has restraint despite (I believe) this being the same continuity where Steve Trevor, the man she loved dearly, turned out to be a Nazi spy, which then Diana promptly decapitates him.
There are still many flaws with the movie such as Flash being killed off and when Superman lasers a bunch of Gen-Z party goers (which why are there teenagers celebrating the Joker? Like seriously…WHY? The Joker is quite possibly the worst terrorist in the history of DC. I refuse to believe anyone would be sad about Joker being put down, aside from maybe Harley).
Back to the point: There’s pretty much no reason why the movie is the most hated part of Injustice as it actually tried to make Superman, Wonder Woman along with any other regime members redeemable instead of simply being diabolical warlords.

Yeah, I'm with ya. Never liked the idea that Superman was just 1 bad day away from losing it. Imo the only way I could see Superman losing hope to this degree would be if there was a way that he was being dosed with fear toxin while in a marginally weakened state.
Then the writers could play off of how powerful fear of something can be if you let it in you like a constant poison. Which is much more allegorical.

  • @Haunter_1616
    @Haunter_1616 2 месяца назад

I disagree with your point in this video. I don't think there is anything wrong with how Injustice portrayed him. I don't think there is anything wrong with inverting a character's whole personality or morality if its just for the sake of what is practically a "what if" universe. Injustice was just a fun little side comic/game/animated movie. The consequences of everybody in the story and their actions doesn't affect the overall continuity and it doesn't stain his character. I think it was really fun and exciting to see him in this light. It may not be "Superman" by most people's definitions but it was never meant to be.

I think that all of this would’ve been a different story if Batman had talked talk to Clark. His father even said you should’ve been there for him and Bruce admitted that. I think if anyone could’ve convinced Superman to turn himself in for killing the Joker it would’ve been Batman. He just turned his back on him when he was at his lowest. It’s even worse because Batman almost did the same thing. When Damien was killed, he almost killed the heretic. It wasn’t until he saw that the heretic was a clone of Damien that he stopped nearly beating him to death.

They got all videos horribly wrong eith every single one of their facts and scaling. Although the outcome is correct, the way they got there was a disgrace to the original characters. Plus they downplayed both of them so badly and used outliers as feats that weren't even good feats if taken seriously.
The Book feat is literally one of the weakest feats in that Final Crisis comic issue and thr book is also not Infinite in the Spacial sense but it's Infinite in the fact that it contains all of the stories and memories of all of the characters in Limbo and its author is a dead monkey.
Limbo being a Transcendental realm that exists above the God Sphere where all lost and forgotten stories go to once erased or forgotten by the Collective Unconscious.
Superman literally pulls off far greater feats in that issue and there's other issues and stories that make that High Outerversal, Boom Tube amped Superman look like absolute fodder.

If anything Superman's the STRONGEST possible BLUE lantern. Period.
I had a massive problem with him doing Joker like that too - then Billy, and all the senseless deaths that he just would NEVER undertake. He has the strength no doubt; it's not infeasible, at all... it's just NOT who Clark Kent is. Or would EVER choose to be. It's one reason other than the fact I suck at fighting games, I never got into Injustice.
This incarnation is more in line with some of the one shots in the bronze age comics where the characters weren't as Iconic, and had more leeway to be shaped. So batman and Superman were often presented as dickish, to actual tyrants in Superman's case at at least one point.
    * Not only that; Apocalypse War put to bed the notion that Green Kryptonite is at all lethal to him - he had it TATTOOED into his chest for a freaking YEAR and all it did was turn him into probably still slightly enhanced for a human. Considering he held his own pretty well with nerfed abilities. (They weren't ALL gone, or he'd have been dead in the battles, but he was pretty nuked from what he should be, which was kind of the point)
** Very technical point: The thing "closest to him" (in the literal physiological sense) is either his cousin Kara or Diana. Now most don't like the concept of him pairing with Kara - duh, family, but Diana's never been a bad pairing for equal rank. His focus on Lois is Iconic, but that's more about tradition. If he actually wanted a true equal; Diana's the better love interest. They chose Lois to ground him more to humanity, rather than being the god he factually IS - whether DC will ever fuck off and just admit it or not - and frankly I think Lana suited him better as the farm boy, rather than trying to make Clark get modern minded as the city folk. But that's just me.

I guess you haven’t got to the part of Invincible where Omni-Man realizes *he’s* the asshole.
Y’see there’s this thing that interesting literary characters go through called an *arc*. They change; usually if good writers are behind them, the readers end up liking the character even more.
Omni-Man has an interesting arc. He goes from ruthless imperialist, fully believing in the Viltrumite cause, to freedom fighter and protector of lesser species. His son inspires the change in him, as proof that his abilities can be used to help and defend others rather than oppress them.
Injustice Superman has a weak arc. He goes from mild control freak to irredeemable monster over a situation that his mainstream counterpart canonically did not mentally break in response to. Twice.
Beyond that, Injustice Superman refuses to change, no matter how many times he gets told that what he’s doing makes no sense for him and that nobody he claims to care about would approve of his actions.

@@brendonwallace6640 Yeah I highly doubt that. watching youtube complications of Omni-man isn't watching the series.
"Try again bro" and this time actually pay attention.
