    Kevin Shea entered the volunteer fire service in 1978 at the age of 18. He was hired by FDNY at the age of 24, in 1984. During his years with FDNY, Shea served on an Engine Co. 227, 108 Truck in Brooklyn, and on Rescue 1 in Manhattan. He was injured in the 1993 bombing at the World Trade Center, but was able to stay on light duty as an Instructor after 18 months of medical leave. After several surgeries, he had to retire in 1998. He has taught for FDNY, as well as the state and county of New York. He has also been an instructor in the private sector, and is currently a partner in Spec Rescue. He is also on the classroom staff for Fire Engineering and FDIC. When not involved with training, he pursues his other passions such as hunting, fishing, and organizes firefighter hunts.

    I am not a firefighter. I live in a small town in Southwestern Ontario. In 2012 I was working at a bar which was also my home. The building caught fire and our volunteer firefighters along with other firefighters from a neighbouring town fought that fire for 13 hours. The building was lost, I lost everything but my Cat and my pet Rat. Everyone made it out and although our firefighters are not doing the amount of calls that New York does they are all heros in my eyes. It is amazing the stuff firefighters do and with so much as second thought. Now I live behind our local fire station or as others call it the local firehouse. Everytime I see the green lights of their cars and trucks pulling into the lot I know they are doing it again, putting their lives on the line. When the trucks pull out I always say a prayer for their safety. To all those who serve as firefighters YOU are the real heros.

    The firefighter that mentored Paddy Brown and was Paddy’s best friend was Lawrence Fitzpatrick whom was from Rescue 3 on June 27th 1980 Larry Fitzpatrick went over a roof of a high rise building in Harlem and another firefighter from Ladder 27 was trapped in the building and so he went down there to grab him but there wasn’t much time left before the rope would give out and snap clean in half, as soon as the rope snapped clean in half they fell 8 stories (200 feet) to their death, every firefighter and every cop were there to carry Larry’s lifeless body including his saved firefighter whom both fell 8 floors and died they both didn’t know that that’s it their lives were over forever, Tom McTigue gotten so depressed about the death of his fellow college (Larry Fitzpatrick) whom both worked in the same firehouse until June 27th 1980, Tommy just then wanted to be dead because he missed Larry a hell of a lot and he still does to this day but doesn’t discuss about it as much anymore like he used to, after Paddy Brown died in the collapse of the north tower of the World Trade Center Paddy reunited with his best friend Larry Fitzpatrick in the kingdom of heaven and were both with god the father almighty and jesus christ his only son our lord may Larry Fitzpatrick and Paddy Brown rest in peace as best friends still and may Patty O’Keefe, Gary Geidel, David Weiss, Joe Angelini Sr, Kenny Marino, Dennis Mojica, Terry Hatton, Michael Montessi, Gerry Nevins, Brian Sweeney, Bill Henry, Dan Duddy, Joe Angelini Jr, Ray Meisenheimer, Jerry Schrang, Donnie Reagan, Tommy Foley, Danny Foley, Brian Hickey, Chris Blackwell, Joe Spore, Tommy Gambino, John O’Neill, Tommy O’Hagen, Paul Beyer, Billy Johnston, Tommy Holohan, Larry Burnes, Stephen Siller, Orio Palmer, Steve Belson, Sean Patrick Tallon, and many other firefighters from the FDNY lost including John Napolitano, Kevin O’Rourke, Peter Lund, Danny Libretti, Bill Lake, Pete Martin, Pat Lyons, Mike Lyons, Mike Lynch, Mike Lynch II, Kevin Pfieffer, Pete Brennan, Larry Stack, Manny Mojica, John Moran, Pete Nelson, Bill Mahoney, Bill O’Keefe, Steve Olson, Jeff Olson, and further more of the 343 members of the FDNY were lost that day

      Liam Keane it depends, the written test isn't based on firefighting and is very basic math skills, reading comprehension, problem solving and memorization. The CPAT is here on RUclips on the join FDNY account. Then there's the psychological exam and the medical exam is also on the join FDNY account. Then there's the 18 week academy which will be the hardest 18 weeks of your life but it will be the proudest moment of your life when you finally get through. So the only one to answer if you would make it is you. If you want it bad enough and prepare well enough you'll get hired.

    • @bigdrew565
      @bigdrew565 7 лет назад

      Stephen Anderson yeah, and what he didn't mention was the years you have to wait on the list. and the fact that you are likely going to get passed over anyway. gotta love that lawsuit. if you want to make a career in the fire service, don't bet on the fdny. consider other cities.

    • @lebronjames8544
      @lebronjames8544 7 лет назад +2

      bigdrew565 exactly I hate how they're no longer getting the best bc they're trying to make a more diverse department. I'm all for diversity but lowering standards to get certain people isn't right in a job where you can be killed any day of the year. Being a minority myself it would make me want to work harder to prove they don't need to lower standards. Also sucks how you have to wait so long. I know a guy who didn't get a call back until 5 years later 😂

    FDNY.....all are the very finest of humanity.....everyday they earn the title
    NEW YORK CITY'S BRAVEST AND HERO'S.
    ON 9-11-01, "343" of my brothers showed the world what exactly it takes to be a man and keep your word, and what HERO'S really look like.....however, on 9-11-01, the "343" got the highest promotion of all......
    From HERO'S to ANGELS AND NOW ARE SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF
    THEE ALMIGHTY GOD ......
    AND I AM 100% SURE AS THEY ENTERED THEIR FINAL DESTINATION, THEY HEARD,
    " THIS IS MY SON WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED "
