Its been gaining in popularity but the Forever Notes method for Apple Notes is pretty game changing for how to navigate the app. I dont use Apple Notes because I cant use markdown, but its still a great way to organize your notes
I love Apple Notes. I love the simplicity, clean look, capability of organization in folders and it's fast and intuitive UI. I have taken all my university notes on it after trying OneNote and Notion; I still use Notion, but not as a note-taking app ironically, more for organization. My favorite thing is the synchronization and how QUICK it is, you just open the app and write, unlike Notion which you have to wait for it to load, and the open the note; and also that if you want, you can export it as a PDF easily. I just have two little complaints: the inconsistent synchronization, which sometimes take too long between devices, and one time I had to re-synchronize all the notes in iCloud because an entire folder wasn't appearing on my Mac. The other thing, is the lack of a Windows app, which I understand why, but personally I use an older Macbook for university, I have a iPhone, and I have I gaming laptop at home which I use for all other things, and it would be so useful to have that app. There is a browser app, but it lack key functions like inserting images or downloading them as PDFs.
I relate to your experience. I’ve tried many apps including Notion and the exact same thing happened to me. To me, Notion is much better at organization than note taking. Thank for sharing 😊
For sure Apple Notes is by far the best notes app for the majority of users. I still love Obsidian but I can’t bring myself to fully abandon Apple Notes-it’s just gotten so good!
Exactly that's the way to decide between apps. I did it the same, used Evernote many years, then Notion and then I realize that it was just about notes and now i'm just using the Notes app. I only use Notion for big data bases: my records collection, my movies collection, house administration, certain bank and finance stuff. Some times i use GoodNotes but just for handwriting notes, thanks for the video Destina!!
I'm in the process of determining which note taking app to use. I'm a former Android user and am exploring the 'Apple Ecosystem and apps'. You're video brings it back to the essentials. So I'll start using Apple Notes. Thx for the 'back to basics' approach. Good luck with your channel.
I totally agree. Apple Notes should be the first option to consider when it comes to building a second brain. Since it's a default app, people chalk it up as "not good", or even "not for pros". Right now it currently holds all of my journal entries, portfolio references, and more. Along with the PARA method, it can become one of the best assets for a creative!
summed up perfectly keep going. i started with complex systems and it became counter productive lol. so i went back to apple notes and started building my second brain from there. i went simple started from tasks than after a week or so batched into a project than some days after i felt to batch projects to an area and than after a week i realized why not align pojects to goals. and than i tagged my notes using resources and still in the process of building it. but this is more organic and gives time for your brain to evolve into this new system you bringing in! doing in notion now tho.
this is honestly a well executed video. I loved the whole vibe- I mean the lighting, the background, the pace of the video, the insight... everything's just perfect. You're totally gonna get a ton of subscribers eventually. I tried notion for like a month and honestly it just wasn't for me, there was just so much stuff I could do aesthetically and I spent so many hours just trying to learn all the features and at one point I realized that I was focusing more on how it looked rather than what I wrote and it was just too much resistance for something so simple, like you said. And I never even considered using apple notes at that time... I was just thinking that either it's notion or the old school way of writing things down on a real notebook. Apple notes is just the best of both worlds and exactly what I needed. I've been using it for about 6 months and I've never written more. And now, it's just about writing and what I write.
Thank you so much for such a detailed comment. I’m glad you liked the video. I totally relate to your experience. Notion is a very powerful app but it’s not for everyone and that’s ok. It’s great that you were able to find something that works for you. What we write is much more important than the tools we use to do it 😊
Your experience is relatable to me, Notion seems like… I'm focused on how it looks like > what I wrote! I prevented "overthinking" by returning to Stock apps, limited Notion just for Knowledge base only.
precisely, it is so fast to search and works well for people with Mac and/or iPad. For personal use it is awesome and I believe apps should have proper functions: reminders are like a checklist notepad, with usually disposable items, notes are more permanent and so on. You don't need to integrate everything.
Apple Notes is one of the major reasons why I find it difficult to move to Android. I wanted to buy a Z Flip but my notes being available easily on my Mac and iPad makes it a seamless experience.
Apple Notes has a major flaw: it is tied to the OS, which becomes an issue when your devices become out of sync - I have no doubt this is intentional. Although, you are correct, the tables are not "as bad as you might think" - they are *worse*. To be fair though, there are some very good insights in this video. Thinking about notes from the point of view of what *you* need to achieve with them is where one needs to start, rather than chasing the shiny setup that others have created for themselves.
Hey Destina I really liked this video! Like yourself I am a new RUclipsr and have been struggling to find “the perfect system”, particularly in Notion. Reality is, for years as I was dreaming up finally making a channel, I would jot down all my dreams and ideas into apple notes… now that I have finally started I somehow strayed away from Apple notes and have over complicated the process, delaying video production as a result. This video was the perfect motivator to return to Apple Notes and simplify my note taking process! Keep making good and informative content like this. Instantly subscribed
Same thing here... Also tried many app and for now stuck on obsidian. After doing intense customization lol now I'm just using it how is it...just the minimal... Love your vids tho!
I’m a long time Windows and Android user but I switched to MacOS and iOS though still have my Windows rig. As someone who saves notes and reference images, for working on 2D Illustration/Animation projects, I found both Apple Notes and Freeform highly useful for my use case. I enjoy the fluidity of how seamless I can work from my phone to my Mac. I can jot down ideas and copy paste images for reference while I’m out running errands, then when I’m home at my desk, I can hop on my Mac and open either applications with said notes/images. It’s super simplified UI which is fine as when I used Notion it seems far too cluttered. I really enjoy Freeform for how I can make a collage of reference images along with notes and there isn’t any limit to where I place things. The only downside to Freeform is that I cannot use my drawing tablet/monitor to interact with freehand drawing option yet I can on my iPhone and iPad 🤔
I feel the same way. I’m using Freeform for moodboards for my design and illustration projects and it works perfectly. Having such seamless workflow is amazing 👏 Notion is great but it distracts me and UI feels cluttered sometimes.
I used to mistake intricate organization systems for productivity, and then I realized that it was actually just distracting me from being productive. Apple Notes just makes note-taking simple, and that's really all it needs to be.
if a user has both Apple and Android devices, only 1 Note works seamlessly with both operating systems. So for many, Apple Notes, excellent as it is, might not the only note taking app they will ever need.
I started with Notion, then moved to Obsidian. In both I created overly complex and intricate “pkm” systems thinking this was what I needed to be more “efficient” and more “productive”. Switched to Apple Notes a few months ago. I actually like the “limitations” that it (supposedly) has because I am less likely to overcomplicate my pkm again. I can use ***some*** formatting (like 2 levels of headings) but not too much. I can link my notes if I so choose, but I will be less inclined to link everything to everything else, which I did in Obsidian (and which proved not as useful and “life changing” as some RUclipsrs will have you believe). Also, it turns I out I enjoy handwritten notes, and I now refuse to use an app where there’s no such option.
Great insite… the notes app is very powerful and versatile. Sometimes we search for things in life and what we are searching for is right in front of our eyes….
Very informative, I only use Apple Notes as well. I swear by the Apple default Apps for everything I do in my life. I also done a Productivity video on this
Notion is much better as far as project management goes (separates projects and what not). If I could an Apple version that integrates all of that, I would be all in. That said I have dropped Obsidian since the new Notes update. EDIT: I have also dropped using scannable as well to scan documents.
Hi Destina, agreed with your points, the most simple you keep notes, the more useful they are. I use windows for work and my notes live in Onenote, but for personal I use Apple notes only. In the past evernote was my main note taking app but now even with the improvements, works bad in my opinion. I like the PARA method from Tiago Forte, but even this doesn't fix our personal needs, and we all have different ways to organize our stuff.

You can’t use Apple Notes on Android, unfortunately. But there are many good alternatives.
So once you watch this video, you have to watch detailed video on notes app from other tuber
What is the Apple Notes of Android?
It depends on your device. If you’re using Samsung it would be Samsung Notes. I’d say it’s any app that comes by default with your phone & is free.
