In Rwanda, the government improved the public schools so much that Rwandans moved their children from private schools and most of them have closed as a result.
Yes, I totally agree with Christiana on the school issue. Great conversations!!! I also agree with Ben on the 7th day being a day of rest. I wouldn't take it so far as not having electricity. I remember when there was the Blue Law, when stores were not open on Sundays. We prepared a lot of things on Saturday.
This episode vote part made us Laugh very hard 😅. Mr. Noah, you are indeed a CEO. Your vote made your guest reconsider to allow the "black day celebration" suggested by co-host😅. I may be too late to this conversation, but it's about the infrastructure. We often overestimate its role. They should be compensated for maintaining the infrastructure but shouldn’t control how information is presented to us. They can run advertising on the infrastructure, but the focus should be on user preferences, not advertiser demands. For example, we could subsidize infrastructure through taxes, providing everyone with something like RUclips Premium, which would tailor promotions to individual preferences rather than advertisers' desires. We could achieve this through legal and regulatory means, similar to how we've handled telephone and energy infrastructures in the past. Even the post office (but virtual) Creators could earn money based on watch time funded by subsidies or ad revenue, and larger creators could still have sponsors. Similar to when shows had sponsors and not the channel or studio itself. There may be many ways to critique this idea, but I hope it inspires someone to come up with something soon. :)
@@KristineMaitland I'll make them part of my cabinet, then. lol. I do find some now, and I do usually just cut them off if I have to. But that some times didn't, and can't right now itch should be illegal. I've also just put holes in brand new clothes on accident cutting tags out. I was just thinking of the lowest value view I have, but still upsets me. Cheers!
Josh's world idea sounds great until you start thinking about Senior Living Communities, Hospitals, Fire Departments, or any other things that require 24hrs supervision.
Fun episode, slight correction there are Christians who also observe the sabbath. Seventh-day Adventists and Baptists. And it doesn’t have to be that strict to be peaceful and rejuvenating. It’s a mental and emotional state more than a physical state.
If I have to choose from you 3 (based on your ideas), I want Christina to run the world, (although I have soft corner for Trevor😉) What she said is valid and also doable. There shouldn't be private schools at all. It will ensure the quality of all the government schools, will compel the government to invest more in education, providing equal opportunities to all. Well, the idea of doing a draw doesn't sound much practical, but there can be a system to ensure diversity in the classroom. I see that in London schools, they are very inclusive. And I do not agree with Trevor about someone wanting to study with only their community people, there can be other ways to be connected with the community, but I strictly believe that educational places should be diverse. Banning social media or having that 7th day, none of them are practical honestly. There are things that have happened already, and the idea of undoing it or removing it totally will always bring resistance. I guess you should think of some small but important changes, which are technically doable, rather than bringing in some big big change.
The biggest problem with Christiana's idea is that some kids don't work with some schools. We moved in order to get a school that worked for our child. I do think that public schools need more funds.
I want to live in Christiana's world. Private schools became popular in the US after public schools were desegregated. This led to schools being just as segregated and predominantly Black schools being just as underfunded as before integration. Her plan would make integration and equality a reality. We discussed similar ideas in my sociology of education class. Some countries do not have private schools and the educational system is better for it.
In the Caribbean, Sundays are go-slow days. Most businesses, except hotel and restaurants, are closed by 2pm. You need groceries you better get up and be out the house by 1:30pm because at 1:55pm the security gates are half-way down. The movie theater opens at 6:30pm.
Christina is on to something with schools. I think I would make sure that all the kids received the same education and experiences. If you do a lottery then you have to figure out how to get your kids across town to the selected school. What do you do if you have more than 1 child? Providing riding lessons, swim classes and other enriching activities in their immediate areas would prepare them for circles that are more affluent earlier in life. I have already lived in Trevor's world getting rid of Social media would not be as bad as it sounds.
I love Ben’s world. That unplugging for 24 hours would help a ton of issues. For emergency workers maybe they work one of the 24hours a month or every other month and they get to have their 24 hours on a different day the week they do the sacrificial 24 hours.
If I ruled the world, I would have Medicare for all in the USA. And fire all the insurance companies. And have the pharmaceutical companies lower their prices. Patricia in Oakley, California
In Finland which has the best system of education in the world the rich kids go to school with the rest of the kids. Parents make sure that all of the schools are well funded!!! In Texas we had blue light day. It was a day where everyone could get together unless you were an emergency worker. Then they started opening stores saying they would only open from 12pm to 6pm so everyone could still go to church and have dinner together. As time went by they opened earlier and closed later until it became a regular shopping day. They screwed everything for everyone!!!
Christiana's idea of banning private schools is interesting, but I feel what should be banned is legacy admission. That is just basically perpetuating a system that gives a privilage based on who your parents are and goes completely against meritocracy.
I would support the designated day of rest, with one caveat. People who don’t want to rest on that day would need to fill out a 2000 word handwritten essay on why they don’t. Then they would upload the essay to the Internet. If the consensus was in favor, they would be able to work on that day. However, they would have to travel to a designated workspace and provide all of their own supplies. They would also have to sign a legally binding waiver, stating that they took legal responsibility for any and all issues that came up in the workspace on that day. There would be no police, fire, or paramedic responses available to them outside of what they personally provide.
Social media is not an issue dear Trevor, we need to educate ourselves and others about the pros and cons of social media, on brain level, on emotionnal level, on social level etc... don't cut the flowers, water the roots !
There is always choices. Social media exist, but I'm not on it. I'm using it the way it benefits me. Also, with or without social media, there will be fake news, there will be ways to manipulate others, people still ignorant, lonely people still feel lonely, etc because these are things created by people, just a matter of which tools they are using.
Television will be a distraction. No generator either. So, it's a yes to Ben's idea. We will use candles, tell stories under the moonlight. Just one free day to run around the neighborhood, play and gist with neighbours, family members.
It seems like Trevor wants to go back to the A.O.L. days, it was safer and there were accounts based on age, but I definitely understand what Trevor is talking about. I’ve noticed that many people who enjoy homeschooling actually enjoy spending time with their children, they get to do more projects and try different thing and travel more, so there are other aspects to homeschooling that can be good. I would also not go for Cristiana’s world, because I’ve seen other ways that can be good. As for Bens world I like the idea of the flusher on the floor, so that you can step on it. I also get his Shabbat idea for a day of recharging. One thing about Shabbat is it’s good to do good on the Sabbath and people for emergencies would do volunteer on those days and either have the day prior or after off. As for Sabbath day it’s actually sun up to sun down that you don’t work, the time before that can also be preparation or rest or enjoying company etc. and after can be similar. The main time is sunup to sundown. As for food that’s also a good day to have salads, fruits and veggies, platters and colder foods or even hummus and sandwiches that are prepared prior to that day, and electricity would still be needed for the refrigerator or freezer. There would also still be snacks too. Prior to the electricity, trains and cars etc. there were horses which is where cars get the idea of horsepower and there were carriages or chariots so cars are just modern versions of those and faster.
I'd vote for all of them, except for the electricity part of the last one. I'm fine with phones not working (except for emergency calls), TVs, computers, etc., but I want to be able to turn on lights, cook food (or warm it in the microwave) and I certainly don't want my food in the freezer to thaw every single week and my food in the fridge to spoil.
Cutting off the electricity will be dangerous. Say you live in a northern climate, most heating involves electricity. Some people need support to live that also needs electricity. What about emergency services like weather warnings or wild fire/earthquake/tsunami/mud slides etc etc warnings? Nah that shit would cause more problems then it solves.
Social media is designed. It has the ability to be designed differently and chooses not to be better. Being social online isn’t going to go away but we can totally change the platforms to force it to be less exploitative. 1) Dark patterns should be illegal. 2) We should have transparency in the values of the algorithm and how it makes decisions. 3) We should have accountability for online harassment as well as the damages caused by the technology on the public’s health but also the employees/workers. 4) We should have ownership over our own data. 5) We should have the ability to override the algorithms and control to determine our own criteria to sort information/content. 6) There should be an organization that enforces these standards. Additional to consider: ban bottomless feeds.
How about have private schools that get no government assistance? Redirect all govt funds to just be public schools. Alternatively remove all private schools
My take is that social media is equally good and bad. It is not differently from TV in my view. There are things on TV that are not for children on TV and there's biased politics and misinformation on TV. I personally feel like TV has more misinformation than, say, Tiktok lol
The coffee mugs thing is ridiculous. You need to get rid of those Trevor. The attention is on the stoopid coffee mugs. Overkill buddy. Edit: You need to get rid of the personalised coffee mugs
This guy Ben is ridiculous. I've never seen on podcasts someone so out of touch with reality with intelligence heavily gravitating towards zero level. Stunning for so many reasons. In a way, I'm glad I did see it. If it was my world, I would've sent him back to school and not allow him to vote until he understands what society truly means.
Most of Trevor's friends and guests are not in tune with anyone except his comedy stream who mostly black or not in mainstream economy or entertainment. Try the "All-in" podcast where the 4 hosts have a mixture of culture and political background.
Maybe I’ve not gotten as deep in the conversation as needed, but how do these kids get to school. Siblings might go to different schools hours away and getting homes at such unpredictable times . Families sometimes rely on kids being able to walk to school or bus services. Logistically how are lower income families managing transportation for their kids . Having four kids my husband and I relied on our high school kids being home before our elementary school kids to watch them the hour before my husband and I got home from work. Primary logistics especially for lower income families the lotto school idea at first thought seemed more equitable but with continued thought seems less realistic.
Ben does not know how heavily subsidised private schools are and how much tax they are let off. Private education from elementary to university, is big business and a way that the super wealthy right off tax and gain further social capital. Btw
Love this though provoking debate style!!! I join your kingdom Trevor! :D i totally agree with your point and join you with my extra battery pod for the concert without police :D In my kingdom there is no speed limit - you go as fast as your car can or how much you dare. !!! HOWEVER !!! IF you cause any accident and lets say there is a 2h stand still on the motorway cause of you- you have to pay all the people compensation for their delays on top of all the fire engine, police, ambulance etc bills..
There will be after school activities that will be unintegrated across the board. All may benefit from the cross socialization education but there will always be dualism...them and us.
Sorry but Ben's world is way too ableist and privileged. Thumbs down. Christiana is right that we need to fix how the schools are funded. It shouldn't be by zip code. I'm not sure how to fix it though.
I like Christiana's idea.Everyone has to pay taxes, just collect it all and evenly give to all schools. No extra money needed. Rich parents who pay for private schools are paying taxes for the public schools too, so they save the rich people money and improve schools for everyone.
If you ask me, I would give every family $2,000 a month and have them do something that is good and beneficial with it, whether it be taking the family out for a picnic or a nice meal in a restaurant, a staycation/vacation, or if you don't need the money give it to someone who needs it. There is so much poverty in the country and helping them out so that they can lead a more happy and fulfilling life, I believe is more meaningful for a lot of people. Just my take :)
I think, Ben’ a idea is the easiest one to implement, however, I think one of the issues would be managing crime; I think criminals would love that day
51:22 I don't enjoy being around othees and i have no family. I never had children so 2 and 3 rulers would be a hard "no". i would be fine wirh no socual media. Y'all would survive with out my comment. 😅😂
I dont see your episode on the trump-harris debate review. Here is my comment: You and your guest strayed off into "GOP bashing mode" for too long that it wasn't intellectual, just bashing. I think you and your guest are looking silly and of not value for thinking about politicians, except at a comedy or barely entertaining. Come on about the "She is good looking" thing that you are inserting into Trump's mind -- Both are good looking people --- but that isnt important for who should be the POTUS. Look -- Trump was the POTUS from 2016-2020. He has a lot more experience and people exposure than Harris. Trump and his son -- getting too close to his son? Where does your guest get this? Regarding the pet eating -- that word was used to "make it viral" -- but it exposes the big problem about the immigrant wave into the country. That is the important issue. You and your guests are distracted on unimportant issues. JD Vance is not on Trump's team? Don Jr's pick? You and your guest should listen to more JD Vance speeches and interviews. And the fact that your podcast has sponsors -- your podcast can be manipulated by your sponsors. Be like "All-in" which does not have sponsors. I listen to your podcast just to hear what liberals are thinking, not to agree but to hear you out. You and your guests should do the same to be intellectually of some value by really listening to the other side. Because from where I was sitting in the debate -- Harris did poorly, and she was handled with fragile care by the ABC moderators who were not neutral, esp when they asked her about her flip-flip and did not press her when she dodged the question.
First time seeing Christine; the "professional hater". Being hearing her every week for the past few months. Weird to finally match up her lovely voice with the beautiful face that I'm seeing 🫣🫣🫣....

I like Christiana's idea.Everyone has to pay taxes, just collect it all and evenly give to all schools. No extra money needed. Rich parents who pay for private schools are paying taxes for the public schools too, so they save the rich people money and improve schools for everyone.
@@FreeofChaos Collect the taxes in each state and then give it out evenly? Or federally? What happens with states with higher costs of living?
X is much worse than Twitter.
I think, Ben’ a idea is the easiest one to implement, however, I think one of the issues would be managing crime; I think criminals would love that day
Powerstations, hospitals, policestations, air traffic control, military??????
51:22 I don't enjoy being around othees and i have no family. I never had children so 2 and 3 rulers would be a hard "no". i would be fine wirh no socual media. Y'all would survive with out my comment. 😅😂
Podcast Bros. I'd have a thoroughly judgmental 5 level committee of people to vet their podcasts before they can post. 😅
Trev ur a champ buddy…u need to be honest tho and tell the people ur team Trump!
Ben - you need to learn how to discuss ideas & not get defensive. I found you too annoying to listen to
Just out of curiosity, what do you hope to accomplish by saying that?
Completely agree with you
The first 7 or so minutes are boring AF! See ya 👋🏽😊
So freaking awkward lawd the woman christiano that's her name?! Saying ALL the wrong things ...aaaaawwwwwwkwaaaaarrrrrdd
I dont see your episode on the trump-harris debate review. Here is my comment:
You and your guest strayed off into "GOP bashing mode" for too long that it wasn't intellectual, just bashing.
