It's not as technically well done as the first two and it felt too rushed at times with a few things in the movie not making sense, but it does have a cult following among certain fans and it gave us a great antagonist in Silver and yes Miyagi did give a great speech at the end! The writing in Cobra Kai is almost making up for the weak writing in this film. After bingewatching season 5 last night, it almost makes this movie seem better than it was. It'll be interesting if they can do the same thing for 'The Next Karate Kid'?
It's because people think Daniel shouldn't have the fear for Mike Barnes after defeating Chozen. It a lot of ways, sure, it makes sense. But the production was great with a mediocre script.
To me, it’s the music that really makes all that effective. Pat Morita always played this character to perfection, but Macchio’s portrayal of LaRusso in this film was pretty annoying. It doesn’t make much sense for him to be this scared of a guy who was clearly not the fighter Chozen was and there was no battle to the death. Aside from Griffin’s stellar performance as a Bond-like, comic book villain, everything else in the movie was pretty wasteful and even laughable, at times.
My question is always been why did they choose to switch from Daniel to Jolisan? Was there something wrong with Daniel when it came to the next karate kid?
@@LITTLEJET I think they just wanted to try something new. Still, not sure why Daniel didn't come to try to assist Julie. Would also be nice if Julie was on Cobra Kai.
I love Mr MIyagi's face when Daniel also made him look like I won thanks to you... He was such a lovely person ... I wish every person in this world has a leader like Mr Miyagi... what an honourable man
What made the ending all the more satisfying was the fact that despite the number of criticisms by Silver how useless kata is in the All Valley, he used it to not only win the All Valley, but to outfox Silver as well...
The music in this scene is epic. When Daniel got back on the line and turned to bow to Mr. Miyagi the music turned to the "Game over Barnes" part of the soundtrack.
@@rkid727 Back when real film scores were used. Now film score has been severely simplified in terms of harmonic language. Those sweeping neoromantic scores people love are a thing of the past, other than John Williams, who is 90 plus years old now.
An argument could be made here why Daniel was more afraid towards Barnes than Chozen. Chozen was directly going for the kill against Daniel, either with petty tricks or direct confrontation. Mike Barnes, with Terry Silver, were playing a drawn out psychological warfare with Daniel, hoping to wear him down slowly but surely, terrorizing his place/home/shop and his friends. This is also why Daniel was more welcoming with Chozen in Cobra Kai, albeit awkward at first, compared to him meeting Silver and Barnes (before discovering the latter had been reformed). Furthermore, Daniel is more affected here than in Karate Kid II (or even I) because his enemies here, for a short time, had broken Daniel's sense of trust and that leaves a scar on a good number of people.
That was the whole point. It wasn't that Mike Barnes was stronger or tougher than Chozen. Against Chozen, Daniel was forced into a bare knuckle street fight to the death and the girl he loved was in danger so Daniel had to fight. With Mike Barnes, Daniel wasn't fighting for his life like with Chozen, but paralyzed by fear of Barnes because Terry Silver sent Barnes and his goons after Daniel throughout the whole movie, Terry Silver befriended Daniel and acted as Daniel's mentor and trainer for the tournament, taught Daniel brutality, aggression, and anger, forced Daniel to physically injure himself to weaken Daniel physically and mentally, made Daniel forget what karate was all about and everything Miyagi taught him and then revealed his true nature to Daniel alongside Barnes and Kreese, which crippled Daniel with fear of Mike and also Silver and Kreese. Granted Mike mopped the floor with Daniel easily in three street fights outside of the ring even before Silver stepped in, but Daniel in Karate Kid 3 was borderline overweight, out of shape, not training as hard except for Miyagi's kata (ironically what beat Barnes at the end) and broken by Terry Silver's psychological warfare and mind games. At the end after Barnes flawlessly pummeled Daniel throughout the tournament, once Mr. Miyagi gave Daniel his speech about never losing to fear, Daniel overcame his fear of Mike and Silver's psychological warfare, used Miyagi's kata defense attack, which caught Mike off guard and left Mike incapable of attacking head on as Mike usually did and Daniel flipped Barnes over with the kata counter and delivered a palm strike to the body to win.
I still think KK2 and KK3 should have switched story lines. You could definitely see that Daniel grew up more while he was in Japan, where in KK3 it looked like he was still developing along with his karate and maturity.
1:55 … and that was the last time we saw Terry-boy, before he got himself into therapy in a new happy life until Kreese barged in and reawaken the old Terry-boy!
Also, in the KK3 post credits scene, Mike jumps up, grabs Daniel and says, "You ruined my life, Larusso. You took EVERYTHING from me!!!" Those post credits were 30+ years later, but still...
Karate Kid 3 is a great movie on its own. However, within the trilogy it gets hated on because it comes after Daniel fighting in a death match in the second movie. Had this been KK2 and KK2 had been KK3, I think it would be viewed differently. Like many have already said on here, Miyagi's speech is excellent.
Before the whole Cobra Kai thing, fans used to make fun of KK3 cuz Daniel was way over the hill at that point. He had gained a lot of weight, and was playing a high school kid when he was almost 30. And the third one was too formulaic. It was a very similar movie to the first one. The person who wrote it didn't want to write this story, they just gave him a boatload of money and he couldn't turn it down. I just watched the interview.
True, but it doesn’t feel that way, you know? You’d think having fought with your life on the line losing a tournament is small. Maybe what Daniel is truly afraid of is becoming like Kreese, Silver and Barnes. That isn’t shown fully in this scene. Maybe if Daniel didn’t get a straight ticket to the title match and we saw him fighting against the Cobra Kai training he received and trying to stay true to Miagyi’s training then it would have been stronger.

This is such a beautiful way to end the Original Karate Kid Trilogy, In my eyes all 3 films we’re incredible [Personal Story: not only my father showed me these films, but I remember watching these films when my sister and took Karate Class and I still remember the name of the old Karate Studio “The United Training Studio Of Self Defense,” and our Sensei (who actually learned His Karate in Japan) would play these movies (Along with some Bruce Lee, And Jackie Chan films) to understand the moves, and what Karate truly means. Sensei would also make us do a path in the beginning and in the end of class, that we would: “Only use Karate whenever we are in need, NEVER FOR VIOLENCE.” I’ve always lived by that oath and so did my sister; and despite both of us receiving Yellow Belts, I still enjoy doing it while also meditating and also yoga (hopefully I can learn Taekwondo, it’s never to late to learn). And it made it even more heartbreaking when our Sensei moved away]. The 3rd Karate Kid Film was just Outstanding, and the ending is so rewarding; it makes it even more emotional knowing that this is the last moment that Daniel and Mr. Miyagi had together. But Pat Morita will live on in these films and even in Disney’s Mulan (Yeah, did y’all know he was the voice of the Emperor in Disney’s Mulan?) Because Legends Never Dies! R.I.P Pat Morita, You’re Still Missed! 💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
I think the script writers for this movie must have forgot. That Daniel's first opponent Johnny won 2 times as well. But then lost when he faced at the end of the first movie.
1:01 “He’s a phoney, man! He’s a fake! And he didn’t teach you nuthin!”. Powerful stuff, cos the audience is well aware of the true extent of Miyagi’s tutelage, not just in Daniel’s karate but in life… And that Barnes’ ignorance must pay off. A great movie, don’t let anyone tell you different.
The ending always got me as a kid but now when you think about everything it hits 10x harder as this was the last time Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita were on screen together and honestly its fitting that it ended with them embracing for the last time in film history, and now recently with Ralph receiving his star on the Hollywood walk of fame and having it next to Pat Morita's to be remembered forever😭😭
This is one of the more underrated movie trilogies in movie history. All three movies were high quality and the original was an all-time great in any genre.
I notice that Daniel's specific superpower is that he gets better as a fighter the bigger the audience is. He always wins in front of an audience. When there is no audience, Daniel tends to lose.
The "HAI" part is the best modivation expression one can get when is about to quit. Daniel did not expect that from from his (so far) low tone Teacher.
True leaders teach their apprentices to never shy away from fear and always be focused and with the mind clear and detached from outside distractions to face it. This scene shows all of it. From the master lessons to the student struggle to the external manipulation done to him psychologically and to him overcoming it and being the winner which at that stage is simply a confirmation of what he already discovered.
Daniel’s more brave than he realizes. In the previous films, he asked out Ali Mills, faced Cobra Kai’s skilled students, chopped 6 blocks of ice by hand, escaped a storm on foot, and fought to the death outside the All-Valley. If Daniel can do all of that, he can for sure stand up to a guy like Barnes.
@supremedream1764 That's true but for the Cobra Kai students, they would beat him up, up to a certain limit and then say "he's had enough." For Chozen, he had no choice but to fight him in a death match but only won the death match because Daniel started the drum technique which is a technique Chozen is not familiar with. For Barnes, he was cheating and breaking rules injuring him very badly especially since between Chozen and Barnes, Chozen is strong and has slow moves and Barnes looks less strong and has fast moves. I would also think that Daniel is also more strong than he realizes since here on the third film, he broke some guys nose which shows how strong he is.
Daniel wins a lot more than a tournament this time around. It's not about respect or honor, but the right to live how he choses and to stay true to himself.

This is more satisfying than people realize. Kreese, Silver, and Barnes came this far having Daniel where they wanted him only for all three of them to lose with one final hit.
The whole time Mike is yelling at him, he doesn't hear it. All he's thinking about is what his best Karate is then realizes it's his Kata and that's when he stands up....
I love these movies with a passion...but the fact that they want us go believe that mikey barnes is scarier than chozen is just beyond me. I mean chozen was ready to kill, literally pulled a knife on daniel and daniel seemed less afraid in the fight for his life than the valley tournament.
Here it was prolonged psychological warfare and torment Daniel endured from not only Mike, but more so Terry Silver. Silver literally broke Daniel's spirit and will.
The scene is bittersweet for me about a guy afraid of a bully and sticking up for himself makes me sad to think that people would make fun of this one in particular when it's like this one was the strongest one this was the first movie that tested Mr miyagi's relationship I think it had a lot of symbolism with the tree unlike all the other movies the score was beautiful and his final scene was beautiful rip Mr miyagi

Terry Silver says that kata is useless in a tournament setting... and he is correct. Only a movie franchise like this would think that using a kata could win you a tournament... the kata itself does nothing... except to clear your mind and focus on the moves/technique you are performing to drive out anger/fear, to refocus... then he waits for Mike's attack and reverse flips him and lands the hit.
It's because they messed with his mind for the entire movie, made him doubt himself, made him lose control of himself, etc. Don't underestimate the power of a good mental attack.

Thanks for the motivation, Barnes. It was worth turd like you!
Loved the hug at the end 🥹❤️
Mike got no chill.
This was my favorite Karate Kid moment, the interaction between Daniel and Miyagi
Now the next karate kid
It broke my heart when i saw Daniel hugging mr miagyi in the end part
brings tears to my eyes.
must not loose through fear.
stay focus
In Cobra Kai: Season 5, Mike Barnes said he was “banned from karate” after this tournament. I don’t understand why.
This is one of the more underrated movie trilogies in movie history. All three movies were high quality and the original was an all-time great in any genre.
Dude got beat up the whole movie. Gets 1 lucky punch and he’s a big shot.
Daniel was afraid Mike Burns Prime really was his most powerful enemy, Even against Chozen Daniel was not afraid but here he's shaking.
Mike Barney’s did everything to win his payday but silva made him do that win a point lose a point
Part 3 seems to be the most human. Battling Temptation and Fear. Great scene
DANNY-BOY!!!
I miss Mr. Miyagi
You mean Pat Morita? (:
@@The_cat_named_Carl I meant what I said
Cinematic masterpiece this scene.
When orchestral music and dialogue was seamlessly synced to create euphoria.
Unlike the movies these days!!
What I miss is mr. Miyagi smile
Daniel (Ralph Macchio) was ... 27-year-old in this movie.
The relationship Miyagi and Daniel have is way better than Johnny and Miguel
Absolutely baby
You said it!
Get me every time. The whole scene is perfect.
Basically like you just said get of his head make it happen overcome the obstacle and win!!!
A PRICELESS SCENE
2:23 we did it
Daniel’s more brave than he realizes.
The music in the end scene is excellent!
Daniel wins a lot more than a tournament this time around. It's not about respect or honor, but the right to live how he choses and to stay true to himself.
Lol he's hallucinating

This is more satisfying than people realize. Kreese, Silver, and Barnes came this far having Daniel where they wanted him only for all three of them to lose with one final hit.
Wonderful scene. Loved it!
But they are all friends now
Here it was prolonged psychological warfare and torment Daniel endured from not only Mike, but more so Terry Silver. Silver literally broke Daniel's spirit and will.
This serie was a masterpiece!
Daniel became a better when he got older in cobra Kai than all 3 movies lol. But these were great classics.
To think he was 28 in this movie is crazy!!
Hit him Mike! He's hallucinating!!!
(Daniel grabs his wrist and hit him)
Ive watched this scene so many times. Saw in the cinema and the last thing i was expecting was a huge water dragon, when i saw it i had my back glued to my seat, so beautiful … the 3 actions scene that start at 1:10 are so underrrated, the water dragon + Xialing being awesome + lion tearing them a new one (such a good boy 🐶
Best scene ever best karate still inside now time let out ! ❤❤
1:40 my favorite scene
"Hit him, Mike! He's hallucinating!" - best line of the whole trilogy.
This scene always make's me cry...I love karate
i watched this scene like 10 times
Yes defeat the enemy. Mr. Miyagi taught her .. " dont fear.... I see this movie 🎬 gets me through my anxiety. Thank u 💓 💗 Ralph Machio. When u defeat enemy you proven to yourself. PROVE TO YOURSELF. 😅😅🎉
And Daniel breaking into a Kata out of the blue, threw Barns off so badly, he didn't think to get the point *while* Daniel was *doing* the Kata?
He probably didnt know what it was because he got so confused.
So apparently Kata will freeze and confuse your opponent
Daniel: Mr. Miyagi, Forget About It!
I’m still gonna keep typing about Disney and Pixar being on movieclips til it happens
You know it ain’t gonna happen
@@bighand1530 you be surprise
It's okey to lose oppenent, must no lose to fear. -Mr. Miyagi
Terry Silver says that kata is useless in a tournament setting... and he is correct. Only a movie franchise like this would think that using a kata could win you a tournament... the kata itself does nothing... except to clear your mind and focus on the moves/technique you are performing to drive out anger/fear, to refocus... then he waits for Mike's attack and reverse flips him and lands the hit.
i love how there is only like 4 people in the tournament lol
I miss when movies were good
If you had any doubt that the heart and soul of the Karate Kid universe was Pat Morita....
Daniel-son, listen to Miyagi. Do not let the fear make you lose. YOu can't lose to Terry Silver.
Magical 🥋
I love kreeses reaction.
Daniel: let's fight again
Mike : l hate you
Daniel-San misses Mr Miyagi but I miss him more, Miyagi is very inspiring
All this intimidation after coming back from a Fight to the Death with Chozen in Part 2, smh.........
It's because they messed with his mind for the entire movie, made him doubt himself, made him lose control of himself, etc.
Don't underestimate the power of a good mental attack.
@@LetsGetitBoah ikr silver manipulated him to friendship turned on him ruined his calmness like when he fought johnny and chosen which makes silver a dangerous opponent
Just amazing
