  • Using the right supplements has the potential to help you manage your thyroid symptoms and support your thyroid. Using the wrong supplements can do the exact opposite.
In fact, using the right supplements is even worse because not only will they not help you feel better, but you're also wasting money.
This video outlines some of the WORST supplements and WORST formulations that thyroid patients can take.
If you are looking to improve thyroid function and better manage your symptoms then you'll want to avoid these supplements and ingredients:
    1. Magnesium oxide.
    2. Zinc oxide.
    3. High-dose iodine.
    4. Cyanocobalamin.
    5. Vitamin D2.
Instead of using these formulations, you will want to opt for magnesium glycinate, zinc glycinate, low-dose iodine, methylcobalamin, and vitamin D3.

@@lanceevans1689 @Lance Evans The source flashes up on the screen when I discuss their intake: www.env.go.jp/en/chemi/rhm/basic-info/1st/03-07-16.html
Also, based on population studies, there's plenty of data to suggest that iodine intake over 300 mcg per day results in thyroid autoimmunity: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8106604/
"More specifically, a number of data suggest that only iodine supplementation regimens attaining relatively high median UIC levels (i.e., 200 µg/L or more) are able to induce relevant long-term alteration of thyroid function due to autoimmune disease, and the relationship between population iodine supply and occurrence of AITD could be depicted by a “U-shaped” function [70, 71]: in other words, the likelihood of developing thyroid autoimmune diseases would increase when median population UIC exceeds approximately 300 µg/L, but as well when is less than 100 µg/L (see Fig. 1)"

It's a sad fact that our GP's have little to zero training in hyper/hypo thyroid disease... after many years a nurse mentioned me going to an endochronologist for my care... she is not an MD but a highly trained nurse! She got it under control for me...

    • @Myatheroses

I’m my experience, nurses are WAY more useful at giving life saving advice than the crooks called PCP and GPS who basically just have the fancy certificate while they slowly kill people by not addressing any of their concerns. I am thankful that a nurse spotted my issue and gave advice that my stupid PCP couldn’t bother to give in YEARS of me suffering. I wish I could sue her honestly but I’d rather just focus on healing.

I still respect the great men & woman in medicine but sadly the uncaring are creeping in 😊

endocrinologists i have sadly encountered have been extremely poorly trained, they are trained morre in diabetes! Theyve usually done about four hours on the thyroid! I have read five books by distringuished doctors on the thyrid ps numerous medical papers and transcripts. I eventually got put on T3 as I do not 'convert' the inactive hormone T4 and now, they are trying to get me taken off as it is more expensive than the useless synthentic thyroid pill levothyroxine. It makes me so angry they believe they can tar al with the same brush and not treat you as a whole individual being, so I will be taking legal action should they try and withdraw my treatment.
Of course, by far the best treatment is and was, NDT natural dessicated pigsthyroid...but big Pharma couldnt make a dime out of that, so they created a synthetic (NON identical piece of rubbish) called levothyroxine and similar with many bulking agents and only one so called hormone, t4 - an inactive pre- hormone - whereas we need all the thyroid hormones

    • @dabubzywubzy
      @dabubzywubzy 9 месяцев назад +8

My GP wouldn't even discuss anything other than take levo..he sent me to an Endo with my questions. Endo put me on Synthroid because it is more stable than levo.
But even my endo doesn't seem to know all of this plus other researching I've done. Now he did tell me(which is true) that if taking Biotin, it needs to be stopped 3-4 days before bloodwork to get a true reading on tsh, t4,t3 etc...he was correct. Accidentally forgot to not take and had to redo my bloodwork. The reading was different.
So anything with biotin you take, stop taking it 3-4 days before bloodwork!

I was fully aware of all you said in your other video, but this one has added so much invaluable info to me. I knew that cyanocobalamin is toxic and so I've been taking methylcobalamin, but in order to increase my B12 levels, I started taking a complex B vitamin tablets which sadly included the poisonous cyanocobalamin and I FAILED to check the label small print. Well, guess what, my TSH, which had always been normal, rose 3-fold. The only changes I made to my eating habits were to improve them last year right after taking a blood test . Too many people have genetic polymorphisms and haven't a clue about them. THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH, DOCTOR! HAVE A BLESSED EASTER SUNDAY!

Ended up with no weight loss on 1100 cal diet, alopecia, dry skin, swollen ankles. Ugh I immediately moved all supplements to afternoon and a week later... Swelling down on ankles lost 3 lbs have clear brain again. I didn't know what had caused it so I quit all the supplements like zinc, d3, magnesium and only took multivitamines. Oh... Most important is I was eating way too many Brazil nuts!!! So HUGE THANK YOU for educating us I brought my BP down from 165/110 to 120/70 and am on my way to healthy weight with about 2 lb loss per week. I'm 5' 2 and 171 yrs young! You're one of the good ones, doc. As soon as I get on high amounts of iodine I can feel my throat becoming uncomfortable. Last time I felt that almost daily it caused subacute thyroiditis. I'm now on a protocol to help my body recover but noticed as soon as I got the same sensation in my throat that my intake of iodine is again really high due to the supplements I was put on. I stopped cold turkey and I retried three days later to take thyroid nutrition, again it started. So now I'm cold turkey again and watching it little by little to get back on a normal dosage when my body will be OK with it again. I dare say my body seems even happier lacking iodine than taking too much.

I started taking iodine and within a couple of weeks I started to feel a weird sensation in my throat, almost like a lump was there or it was sore, hard to describe. I suspected the iodine and I stopped. Within a few days to a week my throat felt back to normal and I know it was the iodine making my throat feel weird. I was taking the recommended dosage on the bottle (150 mcg), it was a liquid and the directions were to take one drop daily. I started taking it because I have low energy, but I rather have that than problems with my thyroid.

"Wakame seaweed is a powerhouse of iodine that contains about 42 mg per 100 grams". so roughly I think it's like that. Medical schools don't teach nutrition in general, and specialists are trained in the diagnosis and medications to alleviate/address symptoms. It takes too much time (money) to tailor a treatment plan for each patient as everyone reacts differently to foods/supplements and/or has different deficiencies, etc. They can just Rx some 'synthroid' or whatever and tweak the dose. and get on to the next patient.
My ex has Hashimoto's and I've watched her research things for the past 20 yrs. on her own. She's fortunate to have the ability to read studies and other medical/scientific material.
The trickiest symptom is the brain-fog that creeps in when one should get their levels checked and/or adjust their dose. She doesn't realize it's happening and when other symptoms appear, doesn't think 'oh, yeah' I need to get my TSH, etc. checked.

Much appreciated good advice from you doctor. I found out that i've got 2 copies of the MTHFR mutation as well as a sluggish thyroid. I use an ace product - 'modifilan' which is a brown seaweed extract unlike any other. So check it out if you want. I can personally attest to iodine supplementation triggering autoimmune thyroiditis. On the advice of a very well-known RUclips doctor, I started using three drops of Lugol's 2% solution a few years ago, and since then I have had two episodes of painless thyroiditis two years apart. The first episode resolved itself and my thyroid resumed normal function, but with this recent episode I haven't been so lucky-- my thyroid hasn't 'woken up' and my practitioner is now trying different thyroid meds on me to try to regulate my levels. During that two-year period my anti-TPO antibodies went up quickly, but thankfully they're creeping down now that I've stopped taking the offensive substance (I apparently was taking 7.5 mg of iodine daily). I had to discover this connection on my own, and my NP STILL wants to argue with me that it couldn't possibly have been the iodine. I'm very frustrated that by taking a supplement to, in my case, encourage breast health, I've caused a very significant problem. Urgh.

Me too. I was taking fairly high doses of Lugols Iodine daily for 2 years, and got Hashimotos. I don't know how to get my thyroid back to health, but have been taking a very good magnesium (as I found out from this video,) but only at night before bed; selenium 3 drops a day (I usually only remember once or twice though,) and D3. Oh, and zinc (the good one, according to this video.)
I'm not sure whether I should take Iodine at all, maybe just once in a while, and only a few drops in water..dunno. I'm living on my own and no money to spare, so these videos are very helpful.
The doctor told me early this year I had hypothyroidism/ hashimotos.

@@Tryagain563 I'm so sorry that this happened to you, too! Are you getting repeated lab work to see if your levels are improving now that you're off the iodine? My antibodies have started to go down, and hopefully yours are, as well. I don't know where you live, but I've found a lab here in the US in South Carolina that charges FAR less than doctors' offices for the lab work. I take the same supplements as you (my selenium is in capsule form, though) and I also take L-Tyrosine and chromium. They're both very cheap.
As far as taking more iodine, I realized that I get 150 mcg in my multi-vitamin and I also get some in dairy and other products, so I don't take the Lugol's at all anymore and I use salt with no iodine.
I wish you all the best, Lindy-Lou, and I hope your thyroid completely recovers!

@@Tryagain563 You're correct to suspect too high iodine as a possible cause of your problems. However, Not necessarily so. Another possibility to consider is it's Not the iodine that's causing your problem but possibly a Bromide storm that's occurring whereby the excess intake of iodine is displacing the Bromine (a iodine antagonist) in your tissues and the Bromide needs to be excreted by your body (a good thing) . The Bromide storm (which will take some time to pass) will make you feel lousy while it's taking place - IF, this happens to be what your problem is. So, maybe Unclear what your problem is, whether it's too much iodine or Bromide being displaced from your tissues. Only time will tell, preferably with the help of a knowledgeable health practitioner familiar with these issues and can run the proper tests.

@@moniryousefian8782 Most breads today are made with dough conditioners that have bromide (specificly Potassium Bromate) added to it (not usually listed in ingredients on the label) in the United States. I believe this ingredient in bread is illegal in Australia and many countries in Europe. Bromine has a negative / detrimental effect on the thyroid gland principally due to its ability to block the uptake of iodine (an important element for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland) . Instead of the important iodine being absorbed by the thyroid gland, detrimental Bromine becomes absorbed by the thyroid gland. This causes the gland to malfunction. Iodine and Bromine are both Halides and as such are members of the same group of chemical elements on the periodic table of elements in Chemistry. So, not surprising, they compete for absorption by the thyroid gland. When iodine supplements are taken, especially in relatively high doses as a supplement, for instance, the thyroid gland happily absorbs the necessary iodine, at the same time Bromine (or Bromide) starts to slowly more and more gets excreted into the bloodstream of the individual causing a negative feeling of malaise in the individual that can last for some time afterwards. This has sometimes been described as a " thyroid storm. " This feeling of malaise could take some time to disappear. The end result is often a healthier, better functioning thyroid gland. Now, get this. Hard to believe, but true. Decades ago in the United States they started to use Potassium Bromate as a dough conditioner / additive in bread. Before this use came into common practice in the United States the dough conditioner used was made from an element called (holy cow, holy Schmoly, No) iodine, no less. No can't be. But True. They caused the problem. Nowadays, some people scratch their heads, puzzled to explain why there is an increase in thyroid problems occurring in recent years in the US 😕😕😕😕. Message to the medical professionals : after I gave them the answer, stop being puzzled. Moral of the story : go back to using iodine as a dough conditioner for bread. Case Closed 🔒🔒🔒🔒.

Hello, Dr. Childs. I have Hashimoto's. I think I have had it for possibly 20 years or more now. I have so many symptoms that I didn't even were part of this, and were are treated separately and not even associated with my Hasimoto's, even by my Functional medicine doctor. Well, she was actually a PA, but was operating under a doctor's consultation in order to treat their patients. My question is this: I only discovered I have food allergens at age 50. I am through menopause. I have never been able to stand the heat much, but for the last 9 years or more now (I am 59), I am finding I can't take the heat at all. As my body seems to overheat even after a few minutes of moving. An example is when I get ready in the morning. By the time I get ready, I am sweating profusely around my head and neck. Any time I go out to window shop, even in the winter time, I am not comfortable in stores. I am too warm. I really suffer in the summer and prefer not to go anywhere, as I know how my body will react. No one seems to know what is causing this. Is it a medication--possibly, I have been told. Is it that my adrenals are completely shot? I am so tired of this, besides the fatigue. I have no true quality of life. I just recently discovered you on RUclips, and was amazed to learn so much already from you! I thought I would reach out to you to see if you could give me a clue. This is just opposite of what other Hashimoto's sufferers seem to experience-with being more cold than hot, isn't it? Please respond, as I really truly would like to know your thoughts on this. Thank you.

I am so sorry...I would do a major liver cleanse. Let's all be cognizant that Dr.'s are overdiagnosing almost all women with Hashimoto's as they get 10 times as much money with the tests, pills, office visits, injections, xrays, and more expensive medications. I researched this after working in a spa where women filled out a health form and 95% wrote down the H diagnosis.

Is it possibly overactive (hyperthyroid). I complained to my incompetent GP for years that I was hot and tired, before he finally ordered blood tests. I couldn't bear clothing on my skin, avoided sun, hot even in winter. Test results showed hyperthyroid. After treatment, I became hypothyroid. Still tired all the time, 30 or so years later. Good luck, best wishes for recovery. Avril from South Africa.
