I went a year on a dairy, gluten and processed sugar and foods. I was miserable. I went in at 100%. I didn't cheat I almost only ate food at home. I ended up being obsessed and became so anxious about food and being around people eating. I had to research a restaurant and if there was nothing I could eat I would either ask to go somewhere else or just not go. It seriously messed me up. I was doing all this under a naturopath that insisted I never eat any of these things again. After a year I had to stop. I lost a ton of weight but felt horrible and now had an eating disorder. I added dairy in first and slowly started feeling a bit better. Then I added back gluten and felt even better. When I added back processed foods/sugar. I started feeling a little worse. So I decided to just be very careful of the processed foods/sugar. and eat whatever else I wanted. 10 years later I'm still anxious around food and have had a few panic attacks eating out at restaurants. I try to eat a balance diet and consult a nutritionist to stay on track. I just want people to not do what I did and become obsessed with food. Eat in moderation and if you find you don't feel well after a particular food try to have it in very limited quantities. My number one trigger that makes me feel horrible are onions. I'm ok in very small quantities but have to be careful. I'm sorry for the ramble I just don't want anyone to go through what I did and become obsessed.
@@Sirie7206 oh boy 😭 you got that right. I can't understand why I feel worse now since I've been on the AIP diet. The reason why I started that diet is to lose weight and sleep better. I so miss my butter and eggs. I usually don't eat grains or vegys. Since I've been on this diet I eat a lot more veggies. I'm tired of feeling crappy and not losing weight.
OMG I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at 41 and packed on 40 lbs in one year. I'm 69 now and no one ever said the word Hashimoto . I've tried every diet known to man with no results. None of this was ever explained. I feel so blessed to have found Dr. Child's Channel. Now maybe I can make some progress.
Hashimoto is a relatively new auto immune disorder. Look at it this way when you walk into a grocery store you realize there’s only 25% or less of any food you can purchase and eat! Seriously!
@@tp7412 be sure to inform women with Hashimoto to take 200 mg of selenium every day for the rest of their lives. As a matter of fact, in this day and age every woman should be taking selenium!
You can get a test done to see if you have high TPO and or TGAB. Those are antibodies that attack the thyroid and it can be used as an indicator for an autoimmune thyroid disease such as Hashimoto’s.
@@thoulaphetmany9037 the thyroid is the only organ in the body that can process iodine. If you have hashi and overload it with iodine it ends up damaging your thyroid more than it already is. Its a controversial subject.
Hi. I too am 57 years old , and have had thyroid issues since early 30's. Was diagnosed with Hashimoto's 10 years ago, and kind of naturally avoided everything you mentioned. I eat everything I want, which is within those parameters, and forget I have this diagnosis. If I just roll with things, I' m good
Going gluten free has helped with my thyroid inflammation tremendously. I am really glad you said coffee was bad for the thyroid of Hashimoto's patients. Everyone I know drinks an obsessive amount of coffee and asks me why I don't do the same. I have tried in the past to drink coffee with all the cool kids. But I always felt sick, tired, unhealthy! Then I started getting migraines. They were so bad I would throw up. After some research (it's nearly impossible to find anyone who says coffee can be bad for some people), I suspected coffee might be the culprit. After going completely caffeine free (giving up green tea and chocolate was harder than giving up coffee), I no longer have any headaches at all. When I tell people I don't drink or eat any caffeine they usually are shocked or feel sorry for me but I feel the best I've ever felt. People I know are so addicted to coffee (they even wear shirts admitting their love affair with coffee) that when I ever suggest they give it up, a fight is sure to ensue, so I keep my mouth shut. I am grateful to know to cure to my headaches and fatigue-ditching caffeine.
@@thoulaphetmany9037 I love green tea and I know it contains a lot of antioxidants. But I noticed that drinking just one cup in the morning put my body in a state of stress so that I impacted badly on my night sleep
LOL I'm sorry, I may be one of them people LOL! I so love my coffee! My biggest question is, is it the coffee Bean or is it the caffeine? I drink about one cup a day so I think I'm good ❤️
Thank you. You are so appreciated. At 65 I can relate what you say to over 30 yrs of my personal suffering. BUT, 2 years ago I discovered Rife technology. 2 yrs of my endocrinologist telling me I will be on this high dose of levothyroxine for the rest of my life, “ABSOLUTELY NO IODINE FOR YOU” (I’d say in my head “watch me”) she just, as in two weeks ago lowered my dose. Not once in 2 years did she discuss gluten, diet, lifestyle etc. just snickered at the number of supplements I took. I felt like a number on her pay invoice. With your help I’m going to beat this. Rife is a huge tool for me to utilize your information. THANK YOU.
Wow I am so glad I just happened to come across your video!!! I am 71 and have endured Hashi for 15 years. I have NEVER had it explained the way that you do Dr. Childs. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This makes so much more sense now. I will have to watch all your videos so that I can really get educated and better my health and well-being. Big hugs to you for helping us. Thank you, Marie
This diet would cause so much food anxiety and disordered eating. I am choosing ONE thing to eliminate and thats gluten, and thats enough. Enjoying food is important for not just physical health, but mental, emotional, and spiritual, maybe also social ~ food is a major part of being together with others and celebrations.
I followed this diet but then stopped, boy I’m feeling depressed and I have body aches. I’m been banking on coffee gluten and everything he mentioned. It is sad but everything he says is so truth. If you hashimoto, you won’t have a life because you can’t anything that everyone else can. It is so depressing, but I have to go back to eating non gluten and avoid alcohol.
I'm a teenager with Hashimoto's and it feels horrible to always have to avoid some food when all around me eats everything they want without gain weight . When it's monday I start eating extremely healthy without gluten sugar excetera and when the weekend comes I just binge .. it becomes a cycle 🥲😭
ita so true. I ate like this for awhile and I was already thin and lost a lot more weight but did not feel well. felt anxious. recently have added back dairy and gluten and I do drink decaf coffee or swiss water decaf coffee and love it. I feel better
OK, I'm 77. Two years ago I was told I had Hashimotos disease, even though I've been on thyroid meds since my late 20s. Now all of a sudden I'm supposed to make these dramatic changes in my diet. I'm also pre-diabetic & watch my sugar intake & check my glucose levels periodically with my own monitor. The leaky gut thing & giving up glutin threw me. At 16 I had ulcers, from high stress. I got over it. I've never had stomach issues since, maybe occasional heartburn with something really spicy, but I found the main cause was sugar. Once I cut back on sugar, that went away. So I'm listening to you now & find glutin free just has to be for 60-90 days? Then what? I thought it had to be forever? Why dairy? I've never been a milk drinker, but I love halfnhalf in my coffee & tea (not to excess) cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese & the only problem I ever had with dairy is ice cream...it makes me phlegmy. I'm so confused at this point I've almost lost my appetite for anything. I thought your later years were supposed to be enjoyable?
He says to try it for 60-90 days... Many people stop gluten and dairy for a week (at most) and they will still eat them on "special occasions", so they never find out if these 2 kinds of foods made them sick. I have been following hashimoto diet for 4 months and I went from not beng able to walk to feeling like a normal 30 year old. Give it a try for 3 months and if you feel better, keep going (forever, no cheat meals).
@@jamiehromas it is expensive, I tried my best to follow the diet while also taking my medication, that was really expensive, after a while I was able to stop some of the meds so the diet is still expensive, but my total expenditure is less than before. I try to see it as my monthly expenses, rather than focusing too much on "this meal is expensive". I live in Chile so here we have a lot of cheap fruits and veggies and I go to a kind of "farmer's market" every saturday. I have sjogrens so my mouth is kind of dry, I tend to eat A LOT of chicken soup with veggies and potatoes. I don't remember if this video banned eggs, I still eat these. I used to prepare my own almond milk, but it was too much work and peeling the almonds was really hard for me at my lowest health. I found a chilean brand that makes powderes almond "milk" so I drink that every now and then. For me it has been a switch from focusing on my meds to focusing on my food. I eat kind of like a body builder, chicken, veggies and fruits. I used to hace bronchitis every autumn and winter and this year I got a sore throat one day or two and that was it. Last year I had a 3 month cold with bronchitis and asthma that lead to me taking prednisone. If you can try to make a budget and see what you can eat and how much it costs. For me the replacements like gluten free bread and pasta are way too expensive, I might have it once a month, since 1 kg of gluten free bread here is like 8 dollars and 1 kg of normal bread is at most 2 dollars. I learnt to cook a lot of gluten free vegan things, my favourite is a "curddle" that I kind of invented, I use coconut cream (here it is 2 or 3 dollars), a can of fruit or any fruit you like and a couple of eggs, you can add sugar or some sweetner and that goes to the oven for like 30 minutes in a small pan (idk if it's called a pan... But you get the idea). I kind of enjoyed the process of learning how to eat differently, I feel it made me more creative in general. I did mourn the loss of dairy and still fantasize about cheese, but no big deal given the benefits
I have avoided all these foods except for the coffee and the improvement is huge. I get sick every time I eat gluten and dairy. I definitely will remove coffee as well.
I was diagnosed at age 12 and I am now 51. All DR'S ever did was change my meds. This yr they finally told me about diet. I have several autoimmune diseases.
This is what I have lived by for the last 6 months. My hashi symptoms are nearly gone, also with the help of proper medication dosages. I am now back to loving life again and appreciate my body's ability to heal.
Hi Kara. Just wondering if you'd mind sharing the medication you're prescribed? Right now I'm just taking Levothyroxine and find limited improvement. Thanks..
I have learned more from you then my on doctor's about my Hashimoto's.Thank you so much. I eat a carnivore-ish diet and feel so much better ...still haven't given up my coffee though.
I do AIP and I, too, have had a hard time giving up coffee. I do make sure I eat before drinking it though and I only do one cup a day. However, if my endocrinologist says stop, I'm guessing I probably should 🤣
Love your channel and have learned so much about Hashimotos from you. I was a diet cola drinker for years. I consumed 4-6 daily for years. I recently quit and within 3 days my heart rate increased to 132 bpm at rest. I then developed hyperthyroid symptoms which were scary! Initially , I had been well controlled on 75 mg NP thyroid for 5 years. After I have eliminated diet cola , I am now taking 15 mg of NP thyroid med daily. My heart rate and blood pressure have normalized. All the hyperthyroid symptoms are gone after 4 months! It has been a long process to get to this point. I hope this can help some of you with Hashimotos. Nobody ever told me to stop or the impact it can have on your thyroid.
I definitely agree with all these! Although one other that I would like to add because it is a MAJOR one for me personally (but may not be for others with Hashimotos) is nightshades. It took a long time to figure it out because I was still in the process of adjusting the rest of my diet, but red peppers especially like paprika, potatoes, eggplant, even tomatoes :( all need to be avoided for me. And even though it's not a nightshade, I also need to be very careful with onion as well.
I've been having weird reactions from tomatoes also. I've been getting sick lot and dr didnt find out why. Thought it was lupus at first so they tested me for that etc. Trying to fix my insurance and get tested for thyroid. I read all the symptoms and they match up 2 well.
@@chrisortiz8072 "Healthy" tomatoes are a nightshade! I have an autoimmune condition called Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) and learned years ago it was aggravated by sugar and soy and other foods, but was clueless that all the tomato sauce-based dishes I was making were also culprits (thanks to Dr. Ken Berry!). ALSO, artificial sweeteners can mess with our insulin and cause HS breakouts, so since these two diseases "share" so many food sensitivities, maybe artificial sweeteners affect Hashi as well. Going mostly carnivore has not led to big weight losses as I hoped BUT it has calmed by HS symptoms. I wonder if it would help Hashi victims too ...
I am new to you're channel, happy I am here. I ferment all my vegetables, many of them raw cruciferous vegetables, thank you for explaining to me I need to cook them and then ferment. I am enjoying your soft spoken, matter a fact, well spoken way
Coffee definitely affects me in ways where i do not absorb my meds. I do notice many Hashimoto’s people crave alcohol because of fatigue. I am glad you covered avoid it here.
Thank you very much, Dr. Childs. None of the endocrine doctors I have consulted have ever given me any of this important information. They have only talked about T3, T4, TSH, hypo/hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto and autoimune…
Other doctors say the only fruit you should eat is granny Smith green apples, lemons, limes, and berries. Check out the podcast KNOW THE CAUSE. Doug Kaufmann is the guy. He teaches about mycotoxins- like fungus and yeast. His eating plans cut out lots of foods too. All depends on what you are treating.
40% of my diet is fruit and all my blood work is fine. no diabetes or other condition's. Except for the obvious hashimotos. Clean HBA1C, Fasting glucose, and oral glucose tolerance test. My blood work is phenomenal. People say fructose is bad but eating too much fat is equally bad if not worse. Fat is the issue not the fructose.@@oldbat4383
@@contrarymary76 Mycotoxin exposure comes from the indoor environment building and homes through inhalation. If you want to lower mycotoxin exposure in your body, you address your home and/or workplace, not diet. Using diet to control symptoms of mycotoxin exposure doesn't treat the cause. Also mycotoxin is the by product of fungus and yeasts. Mycotoxins are not the same as fungus and yeasts Certain tests look for fungus and yeast but there are different test to check for types of mycotoxins antibody exposure. Id suggest looking into Dr andrew campbell, he's gives good information. There are certain things i dont agree with him but a good amount what he says is good information.
As a Celiac with Dermatitis Herpetiformis (a skin manifestation that affects 10 to 25% of Celiacs), even a small amount of iodine can severely aggravate eruptions. In my experience, keeping 100% gluten free will eliminate all DH symptoms, but even a pinch of gluten contamination can set off painful sores and blistering. If I am also consuming iodine, the symptoms are much worse.
i already avoid gluten and dairy and processed sugar but it’s just not fair. i’m so tired of deprivation and not being able to have foods with those ingredients 😭 eta: i also avoid caffeine and alcohol. ugh i hate this 😭😭😭
Me too! I've been strict keto for 5 years. A couple times a year I give myself the ability to go wild for a few days but I always regret it because I feel like shit. It makes me want to scream sometimes. Parties, work, I have to spend most of my time saying no.
When I avoid caffeine my stress builds up so it is not good, when I avoid dairy completely I don't feel good. What worked for me is to drink coffee in a normal amount, one turkish coffee in a day, and something dairy for breakfast like yogurt for example.
You share so much really helpful information in such an efficient amount of time. I've learned more watching these videos then from endocrinologists or even naturopaths. Thank you! It's great confirmation of much that I've learned over the years and am trying to implement. I still have some dairy and some processed foods, but have recently cut out coffee and processed sugar!
Have been following this advice for 4 years and it helps keep my thyroid function consistent and my thyroid hormone replacement dose stable. For me Hashimoto’s was diagnosed very late, but I think if I had started avoiding these foods earlier, I could have avoided the progression of the disease and never developed other autoimmune diseases as a result of advanced Hashimoto’s.
@@luzysombra5291 I had never been tested before, even with regular medical care. It was only after relocating from the Boston, Massachusetts, metro area, “Medical Mecca” to Mississippi and a new doctor that finally, I was tested. By that time, my TSH was over 6, and I was started on thyroid hormone replacement and referred to an endocrinologist, who I was not able to see for several months, so my TPO was not tested until after I was already being treated. At that time, my autoantibodies were close to 700, and I was also diagnosed with AIN.
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few weeks ago, thinking back it should have been at least ten years ago. I didn’t know anything about thyroid disease, so my symptoms were not associated to my thyroid. I could not understand why I was not loosing weight when I literally ate one meal a day. Hopefully, removing gluten will do the trick (not ready to remove coffee, but could start limiting dairy.). Thank You for your informative video.
Well I can tell you now I’ve been gluten free for over a decade and still can’t lose weight. I didn’t realize dairy and coffe were issues till recently. I’m off of them now. I don’t play around with limiting, if it’s bad, it’s got to go, completely.
@@unnamed2737 Absolutely! If something is to be avoided, you can't just have a little or have it every so often. Avoidance means not at all!! If someone told you not to eat arsenic, you wouldn't try to convince yourself a little bit is ok. Poison is poison. And sometimes foods or drinks that other people can tolerate are poison to you. It's more abut discipline than willpower.
Your videos, and videos like these are the BEST thing about the internet! I was getting so tired of telling my doctors their blood tests were WRONG (you confirmed this) and they had no answers. At 64 I think I’ve had this since I was 5 based on symptoms, I’ve conquered it a few times eating strictly and being out in the sun and active for hours a day, all on my own, but we all slip and the weight returns which complicates things yet again. ? What about drinking teas??? THANK YOU for all the details, to help refine how and what I eat. Still a tricky thing to get right. You are a shinning start of information! Again, thank you!!!
Decided to improve my symptoms by researching my symptoms and am pleased with your video. I have weight gained 50 lbs since finding out I had hyperthyroid and taking the radiation pills to kill my thyroid. This is hard to now take off and also have lots of bloating, swelling in face and arms, and constipation. Needing help finding answers, and don’t fell doctor is helping. Thank you!

Wonderful advice Doctor. These things are not told to the patients when we visit our GP.I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in 2017.My tpo was 250+.Last yearit creeped up to 950 and I had every symptoms of hashimoto. I visited my GP he said my Thyroid Function was normal and he cant give me any medication. I was in so much pain in all parts of my body.i just took Paracetamol every 4 to 6 hours to calm my pain .Then I decided to go on U Tube and I got so much information from there and the testimonials from other people who are suffering from Hashimoto. After 5 months my TPO is 629 and I feel so much better just by avoiding all the gluten from my diet. The foods that you mentioned I don't take most of it.My next blood tests will be in September. Hopefully my hormone levels come further down. Thanks for sharing your advice once again.
I stopped the first 9 foods from the list few years back and the Hashimotos was gone. I was on a raw vegan diet, doing a lot of yoga (asanas for thyroid). However, I had few allergies and my ayurvedic doctor asked me to steam my vegetables, since then, all the issues were gone.
Right on! I am so Thankful for your care as a Doctor! I learn the Best from you every time! I’m listening and doing what you suggest. If someone is absolutely unable to do food sensitivity testing that also tests for complement that indicates inflammation like KBMO, sure remove these things, but we are not all the same. 25 years ago I was diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis and started on levothyroxine and then my endocrinologist retired. I still had some symptoms, but who cares or asks? Fast forward to me starting functional medicine education and then doing the above mentioned testing. I do not have gut permeability issues, no grain, gluten or dairy sensitivities. No coffee issue either and for goodness sake, don't take anything but water with thyroid meds and wait at least 30 minutes for coffee. I did have a severe reaction to eggs and white potato, moderate reaction to sweet potato and sardines which was from my newly added Omega-3. So glad I was stubborn and didn't remove foods without proof.
My thyroid tsh was less then 2 since from 2016 to 2020 July. August 2020 I lost my dad due depression i am in stress , anxiety and hair loss and pms issues. July2021 my tsh was 5.6 . Dosage increase 50 mcg to directly 88 mcg. I started thyroid tablet in night as morning I feeling too much fatigue . Stress also main factor to elevate thyroid function. And thanks for all points will definitely eliminate all process foods, sugar, soy and oils to improve thyroid.
Am not a doctor but little advice is better that none try dinking coriander water soak overnight boil and drink first thing in the morning on empty stomach for three months straight
Excellent Dr. Childs. I have been following this regime since 2006 with the guidance of my Chiropractor and it makes a huge difference . Thank God I did because I'm still not on any medication and I am now 71 years old. This has also helped me with my digestive issues immensely. I have history of Barrett's, Gerd and Esophagitis and Hashimoto's in recent years. I have also had high levels of heavy metals which I went through chelation therapy and that helped with my thyroid issues and HBP. Would love to know your feelings about chelation therapy. Thank you and keep up the good work. I enjoy your videos, your complete knowledge and manner in which you share information.
Did this plus egg free and nightshades free and my hashi symptoms improved so much! Yet, reintroduced slowly some dairy a week, and some potatoes and that was ok, once I reintroduced eggs and dairy though, my arthritis came back in one hand. So, I am going back to a stricter diet again... No coffee for more than 5 months now either. Migraines and extreme tiredness and brainfog are almost fully gone, arthritis was until eggs were back.
I am vegan and have PCOS. I was bulimic and didn't eat gluten for about ten years. I was medicated for a chemical imbalance (if that is the answer) so have been on anti depressants for nearly 18 years. I was told to stop taking the pill I was on for PCOS as my blood pressure rose and they were worried I would have a stroke. That was about 15 years ago. I am 40 now. I gained 4 stone in 6 weeks and have had problems ever since. Both my sisters have Hashimotos. I have moved Drs who are trying to help but as only my antibodies are raised they say I just have to wait and they will keep an eye on it. I have been tested continuously over the last 20 years for celiac, lupus and thyroid issues and always told I'm borderline so they can't do anything. I have been told I have ME by a consultant and have had 10 miscarriages over the last 6 years. It is so frustrating when no one will listen to you and when they do you are fobbed off. Sometimes when things are bad I do wonder what the point of everything is. Why should I bother trying anymore. I obviously get up and plod on through life, but it is hard. I love the NHS and I work for the NHS, but unless you have something common or interesting, people don't look into it. You have to wait until you are past the early preventative stage and deal with a more serious problem.
Carnivore diet is the best for Hashi and thyroid dysfunction Since adopting this dietary approach, I have experienced a significant improvement in my symptoms, and my body has begun the healing process. 🥰

Yes yes yes - this info is life saving. Thankful for up to 20 minutes per dose is brilliant - so glad Dr Childs evidently understands this. Maybe just a tad slower?? This video was really informative and super depressing at the same time. My daughter and I bake homemade bread together. I’ve gone gluten free before, once for almost 2 years, made no difference. I look forward to my one mug of coffee, in the morning, with REAL half and half in it. And, in the early evening I love sharing a good bourbon or craft beer with my husband. These are the simple joys of life. I don’t do vegetable oils, soy, and prefer kosher non-idolized salt. I’ve never been able to eat many veggies raw. I also love dairy, and think grass fed butter is the bomb! And is dairy so terrible if it’s raw and/or organic? Anyway, half the tiff on this list brings real joy to my life despite having a hypothyroid issue (which I’m still testing to find out if it’s Hashimoto’s or caused by a nutrient deficiency). Anyway, I am really happy to have found your channel, but this vid just really bummed me out.
U can purchase gluten free flour..I actually make bread with almond flour to stay low carb..I have my coffee with real cream, not half and half..I take my meds at night. I will have a coconut rum and water about once or twice a week..I dont do soy but eat plain Greek yogurt and cottage cheese..also a little cheese..I use unsweetened almond milk on my keto cereal..I cut out gluten sometime ago as I read wheat belly by Dr Davis and cut gluten out of my diet as it was causing arthritis in my hands and knees..all went away when I did this..I have few symptoms other than fatigue..im on 60 mgs of armour..was on 90 mgs but it was decreased..am being tested Friday and am following childs recommendations on getting ready for testing..
I was looking this video up for my sister who is diagnosed Hashimoto's. But I've been having some weird symptoms lately after having covid last September... I thought I had IBS for ages but now it is ramping up and it seems more like IBD (ulcers in my intestines). But I've had many tests and still doctors can't tell me what is wrong 🙃 so basically I've been figuring out what my food triggers are and a lot of it is what you've listed. Cutting out gluten has been a big help, using a juicer to have celery juice every day too. Avoiding processed foods is making a big difference too! I was vegan for a long time, but my body doesn't digest high fiber so well, beans and lentils can give me digestion problems... I was getting dizzy at work and so on, and doctors keep saying I have too much stress. But I still feel like there is something wrong in my body and no one can give me any answers 😕. Sleeping well and really eating healthy is all I can do... I've gone back to eating eggs and fish (no dairy though) but I can't see myself ever eating meat again, and avoiding the processed vegan alternatives as much as I can helps me.
😊 processed sugar: You mention Agave Nectar/Syrup as a substitute for sugar, but I have an annoying reaction to it-it makes me feel hungrier, just like HFCS does. So I wasn’t surprised to learn that agave syrup and HFCS are processed the same way. They’re equally bad in my view. 😊 cooking oils: Ghee (clarified butter) is another good alternative to vegetable oils. It has a much higher smoke point than butter, and I like the flavor better than olive oil with certain foods. Ghee is lactose-free, casein-free, and has anti-inflammatory properties. Its only drawback is that it can be expensive; I get mine from Costco. 😊 Gluten: I went gluten-free for about a year but didn’t notice feeling any different. All I know is that when I get my hands on some good bread or rolls, my dopamine goes up.
1) All types of "sugar" (sucrose) contain fructose, which is bad for us. Corn syrup is less sweet, but it's 100% glucose. 100% glucose can also be purchased in powder form, it's called "dextrose." *Best* to get our carbs from things like oats, quinoa, vegetables, fruit. 2) Peanut oil is high in monounsaturated fat (omega-9), which is good for us. It's the omega-6s that we need to avoid, because they're pro-inflammatory.
Yikes! Who told you that omega 9 oils are good for us?! We do need them in small amounts but we all eat them in copious amounts with the standard American diet and they are pro-inflammatory. We definitely do not need to eat more. And peanuts are heavily sprayed with glyphosate which is a toxin and extremely detrimental to our health.
Dr child’s I’m sitting here Hived out and you named literally EVERYTHING I LIKE YO EAT.😢 but my health is more important. I even ate raw veggies today 😂. Im going to try your diet and come back with my results
I’m sort of new with Hashimoto disease-1 year in. And I just turned 67 years old. So going on a gluten free diet is really expensive and hard to adjust to the awful taste. My antibodies just went up and was advised by my doctor to stick to the diet. I’ve learned quite a bit by subscribing to your channel. Still having a hard time though sticking to all I have to avoid. I am overweight and I want to be healthy so I’m really trying my best .

Sometimes these come in blends though It would be amazing to have a video on this topic, I’m trying to get the energy/focus benefits of mushrooms but want to be careful with my thyroid… thank!!!
I will have a huge problem giving up any sugars. Coffee in the morning for me is essential lol. I can give up sugars during each day after my few cups of coffee. I have not been diagnosed but have antibodies at 318 and a low “normal” T4 of 0.9. Have all kinds of symptoms. Brain fog, extreme extreme fatigue, nausea. But I have irritable bowel syndrome had that for 20 years so who knows but normally I’m not nauseous every day, but have been for a month now. Still working with an endocrinologist have more test to do. This just came on two months ago this year. So really have no idea what’s going on oh and short of breath. Sometimes I’ll come up the stairs and I will literally want to collapse on my bed and I’ve never been that way ever ever ever. I have been an athlete my whole life very active. I am now 49 and things just absolutely went South. I have a cardiologist appointment on the 31st. In a few days.
I am with you! I have a really hard time giving up coffee and sugar. I also have IBS - biggest symptom is diarrhea. I am on thyroid meds and have been tested for Hashimoto's but test was negative. My daughter has Hashimoto's and genetically I have a good chance of getting celiac disease and Hashimoto's (from DNA testing). I've been tested twice, and so far, so good. I have borderline hypothyroid disease, but I cannot lose weight at all even not eating that much and don't have a lot of energy. I am ADHD but stopped taking my meds because I no longer am hyper at all and can sit all day. I am pre-diabetic and on the new meds that are injected - and lost 8 pounds. Most people lose 25-35 pounds, but not me. I do exercise regularly (at least 4 times a week, and I really have to make myself do it). It is so frustrating. I do eat very little gluten. I do have similar symptoms that you do except brain fog. I'm not sure what that even is. I used to run marathons and about 25-30 other races a year and train 45-70 miles a week and also things like Jazzercise, weight lifting, swimming, etc. and weighed 100 pounds less than I do right now. I am 77, though, and while I am generally healthy compared to other people my age, it is hard to know what is caused by just getting older. When I was reading your post I couldn't believe that we have such similar situations!
I’ve gotten rid of everything on this list, I am looking to have one cup of matcha green tea a day with almond milk and honey. I’ve read conflicting articles on Matcha green tea, do you have an opinion on matcha green tea and Hoshimotos if I having 1-2 teaspoons a day? What’s your conclusion on matcha?
I have Hashimotos with three nodules at a level 4. I go every 6 months for a thyroid ultrasound and I guess we are "waiting" for the nodules to be big enough to biopsy. My aunt had thyroid cancer, so I really want them to go in and take it all out, but I have to wait. My endocrinologist doesn't suggest any food avoidance. I have thyroid tongue as well but does not seem to address that either. I am on two meds. Lastly, and this is the hardest thing, I developed mal de debarquement syndrome from being on a plane ride almost 5 years ago. MdDS occurs mostly in women who are middle-aged like me and have thyroid disease in addition to being peri-menopausal (as I was) . So autoimmune disease is a big deal.
Thank you so much Dr.Childs for this informative sessions. Now I've to go easy on my Cheese intake & 120 mls of wine daily with dinner. Not too much Ihope.Keep well.😊
I did try the glutton test as well as a complete elimination diet through a naturopath, and it made absolutely no difference - I also believe, I’ve actually had hormones issues since my childhood …
Thank for the high info sir.i just want to ask what is all the vegeatable allowed to eat please advice us as a male im suffering as of now hopefully i can control this
I agree with all of this, as a Hashimoto's patient for 20 years, except the part about sugar. Yes, processed sugars are worse, but natural sugars are not much better. Sugars, no matter what type, react the same in the body. There are actually no studies that show that carbs (sugars) are essential to life. Very occasionally honey and some fruit may be ok, but we have to remember that they still introduce sugar into the body, which is a source of inflammation. While honey and fruit tastes good and can be enjoyed occasionally, the sugar in them is not essential for life. Fatty meats are nutrient dense and do not contain inflammatory sugars. I recommend Dr. Ken D Berry, who has been a carnivore for 4 years after being on keto and paleo before that. He and his wife are the healthiest they have ever been since going ketovore and carnivore. She has put her Hashimoto's into remission. I highly recommend their channels.
Absolutely!! Sugar from a piece of fruit and sugar from pasta and sugar from molasses are all the same to your body. All carbs are broken down into glucose by the body in order to be utilized. And sugar causes inflammation. That is enough reason for me to ditch carbs. So agree about carbs not being an essential nutrient at all. I have heard Dr. Berry say that many times!!
I found out in my 30’s that I had acromegaly, then after that went into remission, I was left with Hashimoto’s. I do take medication, but I’ve been very strict on my diet for years, gluten free, low dairy, I know when I watch my carbs and sugar intake, it helps. I do much better on a keto diet.
If you’ve done sensitivity testing and it shows Rye ,quinoa, spelt, oats are ok, are you ok eating those? My 19 yo son got his thyroid tested in November only because his hair has been thinning out last year, otherwise he has no symptoms, he is a healthy high energy athlete & A student, and apparently his TSH was slightly elevated and since we don’t have a family doctor a one in a clinic after a 5 min visit, no other questions, prescribed him low dose Levoxy…(can’t remember).. only after we read the side affects, we paid for naturopath and that’s where he got sensitivity test, Dutch test, it showed that he’s cortisol has been high so he is now on 3rd month of diet and supplements, hoping this will be enough to help so he doesn’t have to go on a path of lifetime of drugs.
I recently heard the “grass fed butter”, is bad. A K2 was recommended. Didn’t quite understand. I just cut back, more so, on the butter. Thank you for mentioning, not to use extra virgin oil, when using high heat for cooking.
My thyroid is dead i was told due to hachimoto, but no one ever said anything about what I eat ,but it is so true about soya ,achol and dairy as in certain cheeses ,I also can't eat tomatoes or other vine growing vegetables, here in France people just say I am a fussy eater ,but I know I will be unwell if I eat these things .My G P said to take soya for my menopause, and didn't believe me when I went back saying it made me feel so ill.Thank you so much Dr Childs ,you have helped me more in the short time I have known of you than in the 30 years with very little help from doctors here in France, thank you .do you have any advice on the depression that I get and I am just told is part of the hashi condition,
Natural roots & herbs are the best remedy which can easily eradicate all kinds of diseases and virus forever and permanently! I was able to beat hypothyroidism with natural herbal medicine from Dr Isibor on youtube.
I have type 1 diabetes and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at the same time...I was allergy tested 20 yrs before being tested for diabetes... I am literally allergic to mold dust, and all food except meat and 2 legumes......but I do now... eat some organic bread and vegetables.
I'm on the AIP diet (Autoimmune Protocol). It really helps gear your focus to what you can eat as opposed to can't eat. It does say no nuts. However, you can do the diet for 30-40 days then slowly introduce the no-list foods to see what you can and can't tolerate.
I have Hashimoto's but I also had my thyroid removed and it had cancer. I don't hear many talk about that situation but I can say Gluten makes me really sick.
Ive been on meds for 20 yrs. Through my chiropractor ive learned more than from my dr. After having an exstensive panel of blood work its obvious i have Hosh the first time i heard the word. I have eliminated gluten for the most part and my body doesnt ache any more. If drinking raw milk and doing fermentation we can help out bodies.kefir ,whey, kraut are good fermented options
I'm hoping satueeing in grass fed butter is an acceptable method for Hashimoto. I'm relieved to know a little fruit is ok. I like to statue a chopped apple in grass fed butter with a little cinnamon for dessert.
Thanks for the information.. I am having a nightmare .. I had a skin break out recently with rosecea and my oesophagus was burning... I found out instantly it was tomatoes as with Hashimotos I only use plant based and gluten free items but I made a plant based cheese with 6 small tomatoes and basil and I had a severe skin outbreak. By knowing what I ate and what happened quickly the tomatoes were the problem as the other items were plant based.y ou would not believe how many shopping items have a tomato base in them. Dining out is a nightmare the cost of coconut ,plant based and gluten free products is a joke it never ends... no enjoyment in life when food becomes so problematic.. I instantly took tomatoes from my diet and had to use antibacterial gel for ny skin outbreak (still using)and I feel better quicker...2 and half years having been diagnosed as Hyperthyroid now hashimotis thyroiditis and my blood levels have only just stabilised....a nightmare...more can't have this etc... it gets you down and costs you greatly on your weekly shop
Also, does anyone suffer from hives? I’ve noticed that I have breakouts if my nutrition is not right. But since I’ve started keto carnivore plus intermittent fasting, I have zero hives. I recently did a three day water fast, and on my second and third day I had a hives outbreak, small but there. I’m think it might be a reaction to Levothyroic.
I have those hives too, I got diagnosed by a skin/allergy specialist for autoimmune urticaria. I thought it was the levothyroxine too but the prick test was negative!
I went through the same thing as you when I went raw vegan. Talk about obsessing and stressed out. LOL
@@joey8701 Going through that 2 weeks in AIP. It causes more stress than happiness.
My number one trigger is also onions. I've been diagnosed with an intolerance to FODMAPs. Maybe you have it too
Good info. Always good to use the elimination method - before and add back 1 at a time - to see what your body can tolerate.
Seriously!
Hashimoto’s is one type of hypothyroidism. There is a test for it.

Hello have anyone heard of Dr iyaremoses on RUclips channel he cured me permanently from psoriasis with herbal remedy.
Thank you!!!!!
Why giving up green tea?

Hello have anyone heard of Dr iyaremoses on RUclips channel he cured me permanently from psoriasis with herbal remedy.
I hope you’re doing well 2 years later ❤
This diet would cause so much food anxiety and disordered eating. I am choosing ONE thing to eliminate and thats gluten, and thats enough. Enjoying food is important for not just physical health, but mental, emotional, and spiritual, maybe also social ~ food is a major part of being together with others and celebrations.
I am just diagnosed with Hashomoto's disease. Do not know where to start. Thank you so much for this information 😢
Would love to see an answer to this.. same questions as I want to ask..
I’m in the same situation. Have taken Synthroid for 40 years
What do you eat? It is so difficult and expensive. @patiakreles
You don't have to REMOVE coffee. Just go caffeine free if your body is sensitive. Smdh

Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for the information 13.45
@@chrisortiz8072 I hope you are able to find your answers soon.

Why would anyone crave alcohol due to fatigue? If anything alcohol is a depressant and increases drowsiness.

12:10 I’m actually glad you put emphasis on this, because people tend to group sugar from fruits into a harmful category of “sugar bad”
too much fructose isnt good for you. i tend to stay with berries.
Mycotoxins are not the same as fungus and yeasts Certain tests look for fungus and yeast but there are different test to check for types of mycotoxins antibody exposure. Depends on what those natural and processed sugars are doing to your insulin and glucose levels probably ...
But the question is, are you feeling better when avoiding these items?
I’d like to know in detail please

Have been following this advice for 4 years and it helps keep my thyroid function consistent and my thyroid hormone replacement dose stable. How are you doing at the moment?
How are you now?
Hi, you uave great videos . Can we have tea with almond milk and banasa.??
Excellent piece of advice Doc. All Hashimotos need to know this info. Thanks for sharing 🥰
Thank you!
Way to say honest about coffee! Subscribed. Also, some say you talk too fast…for most of us, your speed is great…I watch you at 2x speed and it’s perfect. You don’t waste our time. ❤
Can you tell me the current antibodies?? Reduced from 600?? I have 1300 ......i don't know how to deal with them
You are a GENIUS doctor, THANK YOU! I am learning TONS more from you than I have in 45 years since diagnosed with Hashimoto's!!! 😊❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
WOW!!! You have ALL OF THE INFORMATION!! Thank You!
When my doc put me on a Thyroaide supplement that has 150 iodine,200 Ashwagaunda,125 Tyrosine,forskohlil50mg,vitaminB6,Vit A 2500,Folate mcg, zinc 6mgs, Selinium 100mcg. It’s helping big time. I do take 25 mgsof Zink also.😊
Hello have anyone heard of Dr iyaremoses on RUclips channel he cured me permanently from psoriasis with herbal remedy.
dr ur my most fave youtube channel and excellent information all my family has hashis and other autoimmune diseases, info is seriously lacking to uk patients, gps tend to know very lil here and extremely poor treatment, i had to research myself wish we had this 15 years ago ;) been on ndt a long time 8 to 9 years now it works, t4 is pretty useless tends to just flood the blood no conversion to t3, my nhs endo did finally tell me about conversion but i'd already told him so and trialed me on t3, ndt was better for me with a lil t4, i had to go private and still do to this day.
Thank you for sharing all of this great information!
But please SLOW DOWN! You will make less speech mistakes and it will be easier to take in everything you are sharing
What "speech" mistakes?
Please, Dr. Childs, would you explain why you aren't a fan of avocado oil? (Assuming first, it is Organic.)
Thank you, I just came across ur videos. Very informative, I appreciate them very much .
What do you eat for breakfast without eggs or dairy
You have to wait until you are past the early preventative stage and deal with a more serious problem.
great information!!
😢🎉😢🎉
THANK YOU
DOCTOR..
TRUTH... coffee ahhh no NO
Can fermenting cabbage reduce the goitergens? How about grilling, roasting and stirfrying?
How about a menu of few recipes of what we can eat ….we can actually make to eat at home .
Thank you for all the great knowledge ❤❤❤
Carnivore diet is the best for Hashi and thyroid dysfunction Since adopting this dietary approach, I have experienced a significant improvement in my symptoms, and my body has begun the healing process. 🥰
I have Hashimotos...but a food test showed I had no reaction to soy, coffee , gluten ... But dairy , eggs and rice were sky high !! .. However I'm dutifully following the recommendations which are not just confined to this video ...
What kind of food test did you take?
What test did you take
Yes yes yes - this info is life saving. Thankful for up to 20 minutes per dose is brilliant - so glad Dr Childs evidently understands this. Maybe just a tad slower?? Like so many people, given Levothyroxine and thought that was it. 35 years later in an unhappy existence I learn I may be able to get my life back. Does anyone also suffer with initial lymphatic glands feeling painful, off and on???
Thank you Dr Childs ❤
1. gluten; 2. iodized salt, 3. dairy, 4. soy, 5. coffee - even decaf, 6. alcohol, 7. highly processed foods, 8. sugar, 9. seed oils - canola, peanut, soybean, corn, safflower, sunflower, cottonseed, grapeseed, and rice bran oil, 10. raw vegetables - esp. goitrogens like broccoli and kale.
Thank you.

I could have written this myself!
try ghee instead of butter. has onlly the butterfat, none of the solids.
I eat pure butter..use olive oil and coconut oil as well as avocado oil..also..I do use pure lard for baking..
@@oldbat4383 there's nothing like grass-fed butter 😋
Ghee is WAY too expensive for me, who lives on disability money.
you can make your own
1) All types of "sugar" (sucrose) contain fructose, which is bad for us.
Hey. Could you share your results? Thank you!
I am overweight and I want to be healthy so I’m really trying my best .
eat real foods!
Try ketovore. We eat mostly meat and a few lettuces, sometimes potatoes. It’s not expensive. For two people, we spend approximately $120 per week.
**Could you please make a video on superfood mushrooms ? **
I’ve heard chaga is not good with those that have hashimotos however I’ve heard other mushrooms are great for energy …. Sometimes these come in blends though
It would be amazing to have a video on this topic, I’m trying to get the energy/focus benefits of mushrooms but want to be careful with my thyroid… thank!!!
Tofu, extra firm, fried in olive oil. I really love the texture and it doesn’t bother me. Cabbage: love it! boiled, or raw, or as sauerkraut.
Get your b12 level tested. Breathlessness could be pernicious anemia
You explain things so well ! Thanks for the video 🙏🏾💕
Wondering about this also?
Beef bone both do wonders for Hashimoto regular use drop my tpo no more fatigue now.
Do you have the recipe?

I agree! Dr. Ken Berry and his wife Neisha who is in remiss6 fro Hashimotos are great examples of how to do Keto/Carnivore
wdym sugar is not essential for life,, glucose is the only source of energy for brain and erythrocytes
Fructose from fruits is supposed to be Evan worse than sucrose……but , yes I agree all sugars are bad…unfortunately….😢
@@MA7-6585 Honey is 40% fructose and 30% glucose. Not sure how that can be "better."
Great video! Thank you
If you’ve done sensitivity testing and it shows Rye ,quinoa, spelt, oats are ok, are you ok eating those?
Thank you for all this important information. Are teas okay? Green tea or Earl gray for the morning instead of coffee?
Green tea is really good for inflammation.
All tea has flouride in it except for the Herbal Teas.
They can make you nauseous if consumed on an empty stomach due to the tannins in them so have something small to eat before drinking teas.
I can't even have that
I recently heard the “grass fed butter”, is bad. A K2 was recommended. Didn’t quite understand. I just cut back, more so, on the butter. Thank you for mentioning, not to use extra virgin oil, when using high heat for cooking.
My thyroid is dead i was told due to hachimoto, but no one ever said anything about what I eat ,but it is so true about soya ,achol and dairy as in certain cheeses ,I also can't eat tomatoes or other vine growing vegetables, here in France people just say I am a fussy eater ,but I know I will be unwell if I eat these things .My G P said to take soya for my menopause, and didn't believe me when I went back saying it made me feel so ill.Thank you so much Dr Childs ,you have helped me more in the short time I have known of you than in the 30 years with very little help from doctors here in France, thank you .do you have any advice on the depression that I get and I am just told is part of the hashi condition,
You need to cut out all nightshades
Natural roots & herbs are the best remedy which can easily eradicate all kinds of diseases and virus forever and permanently! I was able to beat hypothyroidism with natural herbal medicine from Dr Isibor on youtube.
Vitamin D3 really helped with my depression. best taken with K2 and Magnesium along with a nice fatty meal like salmon.
Eating steak is the best for depression. Try carnivore lifestyle all carnivores get off depression meds and improve their mood significantly
I have type 1 diabetes and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at the same time...I was allergy tested 20 yrs before being tested for diabetes... I am literally allergic to mold dust, and all food except meat and 2 legumes......but I do now... eat some organic bread and vegetables.
If you are allergic to all food you may in fact have leaky gut - worth looking in to x
I love your information
I love how you explained this! Great information
This answered so many questions for me, thank you!
I have heard people who had great results avoiding of course bad quality food, but following blood type diet and have seen great improvement.
It seems all foods are prohibited, please make a video about what foods we can take.
Meats, fish, vegetables, fruit
@@MM-dl1ik How about nuts?
@@margieterrell8568 walnuts & Brazil nuts in small quantities
I'm on the AIP diet (Autoimmune Protocol). It really helps gear your focus to what you can eat as opposed to can't eat. It does say no nuts. However, you can do the diet for 30-40 days then slowly introduce the no-list foods to see what you can and can't tolerate.
Really! So, what the hell CAN we eat?
Such magnificent info., and presentations. Wow. 🙏🏻💙👏👏🙏🏻
Thank you so much
I get sick to my stomach and bloated when I drink coffee. Giving it up today.
Thank you for doing what you do
Brilliant learnt so much
Thank you doc.
Welcome!
I have Hashimoto's but I also had my thyroid removed and it had cancer. I don't hear many talk about that situation but I can say Gluten makes me really sick.
What about matcha green tea?
Please make a video on how to reduce inflammation. I know foods affect it but what else can you do? Diuretics?
I'll add it to the list!
Milk is awful 😖 grass-fed yogurt 😋 cheese 🧀 😋 and butter 🧈😅 are amazing ❤
Also, does anyone suffer from hives? I’ve noticed that I have breakouts if my nutrition is not right. But since I’ve started keto carnivore plus intermittent fasting, I have zero hives. I recently did a three day water fast, and on my second and third day I had a hives outbreak, small but there. I’m think it might be a reaction to Levothyroic.
#DRIYAREMOSES on RUclips channel has natural herbs medication that cures PCOS permanently am a living proof I've used it and it works
I have those hives too, I got diagnosed by a skin/allergy specialist for autoimmune urticaria. I thought it was the levothyroxine too but the prick test was negative!
This was great information! Thank you!!!
