Wow that original is actually beautiful. I wish they kept it more similar. Seems like they switched to normal/traditional instruments rather than the synthesized ones from the original
Yeah, pretty much the instant the Colony 9 music hit, I knew I was in for something good. I set my expectations high... and then the game still blew them right out of the water. These games are masterpieces, all of them. And yet, for as much as I enjoy them, there's a certain something to the first one that's never _quite_ been replicated in subsequent games. It comes down to a lot of subtle things, but I think a big one is that the first game has my favourite music, especially in the Definitive Edition. I love every Xenoblade game to pieces and I love the music in all of them, and I'm always craving more, but XC1 just resonates with something deep in my heart. It's like it embodies adventure. It really captures the magic, the wonder, the beauty, the scale, the grandness of it, and all without sacrificing the ability to be deadly serious and heartbreaking when it needs to be. Not to mention that it somehow masters the art of both fulfilling heavily foreshadowed events _and_ completely blindsiding the player with unexpected twists here and there. It fills me with this beautiful, bittersweet ache. A longing to know that world, to step through the screen, to meet these people and experience that life. I play this game and I hear this music and I see others doing the same, and it's like suddenly life's problems seem so small and manageable. XC2 and XC3 are juuuuust behind it by a hair's breadth, but that slight extra something that XC1 has makes it feel like a perfect gaming experience to me. In a way I'm grateful that Xenoblade didn't start getting super popular until recently, because it means there are lots of people out there who still get to go on this journey for the first time. I love watching fellow gamers discover this series. It really is something special.
Isn't it? I love the light of the stars above, imagining the gentle breeze across my face, the cool waves ebbing and flowing around my feet as I step into the water's depths, and the joy of gazing out across the beautiful horizon of Colony 9.
I'm playing this game for the first time now. I never had the opportunity to play the original game on the Wii. So I tried it on the Switch. After completing the first tutorial fights, I began to complete sidequests. Night came and this song started playing. Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of swimming around Colony 9. I heard the original track recently and in my opinion both tracks are completely awesome. I think I prefer this version, because it sounds more organic.
I know I play a lot of rpgs and always have and I remember when this came out I wanted to play it but somehow never got to it. I played it on the switch recently and was pretty damn blown away. I also picture swimming around at night when I hear this song
"....I had a big fight with Dunban and ran out of the house" "Oh yeah! It's coming back to me now. If I'm remembering right, you wanted to marry me?! (Harmony down) "Shulk i can't believe you!" Me: BUT THAT'S WHAT YOU SAID!
Though, to be fair, men and women are not as different as gender roles would lead you to believe. Men are simply encouraged to suppress their emotions and all their complexity, whereas women are expected to embrace them, in a sense. Sisterhood is much more emotionally healthy than brotherhood, at least in today's society. Hopefully our generation's grandchildren will look back on these issues of today and laugh at our ignorance.
The song of running around for hours completing sidequests, and accidentally overleveling because you're too focused on maxing out your affinity with the colony.
Still need to finish the game, but this takes me back to summer when I just got XCDE. I was nervous getting it because I don't really like rpgs and I didn't want to waste $60 knowing I wasn't probably gonna like it, but long and behold, it became one of my favorite games of all time just like I've heard everyone say who's played it. The game truly is something special and I recommend you give it a shot regardless of what your preconceived notions are
I still don’t like JRPGs and there are parts of this game I really don’t like, but I will never say this is a bad game. It’s really, really good. The fact that it’s a JRGP and I still love it as much as I do is a testament to that.
So far this is the one song I vastly prefer to the original. The real guitar is already a huge plus, but when the woodwinds kicked in I was absolutely sold. The original's string+synth combo, while atmospheric, was way too pronounced and synthetic-sounding, making it wear on the ears very quickly. (Plus, the piano already covers the twinkly "starry night" imagery.) By contrast, the woodwinds are mellow and soothing and cover the whole soundscape oh so gently like a musical blanket. It's so much cozier and sleepier.
@@El-Duderino-His-Dudeness No, you're weird. I honestly think making the synth toned down made this a lot better, and the wood winds are really good, in sections like 3:26 , at least to me.
I wasn't trying to say the guy was weird, I was just making an observation like how you made about preferences. We like different versions. I still prefer the original, I think the wood winds are covering up the synth effects and guitar though. The little flourish at 0:45, sounds really harsh and grating to me. Where in the original it was a really nice low pitched smooth effect. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile, but I tend to prefer a piece of music played in the way I first heard it. I would prefer the SNES version of Chrono Trigger music versus orchestrated covers. Most of my favorite Xenoblade music has synth in it.
@@El-Duderino-His-Dudeness That part, is probably one of my favorites in this. I guess you're just not a fan of woodwinds, which I personally really enjoy.
The only complaint is that the flute? doesn't echo in this version. That's all I'd change about this. Vast improvement otherwise over the original for sure. The night theme is much more memorable now.
As much as i love the original version i love the new instruments they added with this version solid recreation of the original theme will be listening to this pretty frequently
Why do so many people who have played the original dislike this song? To me, it fits the theme a nighttime theme should have. Probably one of the best pieces of music for a night theme I've heard ever.
I watched a l.p. of the game before, years ago now, yet remembered nothing of the night theme. It was not pointed out either as beautiful or memorable. Worse, I never had the game despite having a Wii still and a 3ds, so there was no personal attachment to help me remember. But having played the definitive version now, i only wish that they had left in the echo of the ?flute? the original had. Other than that nitpick I prefer this one over the original.
So far, I still prefer the original version because I really like the instruments at 0:23 in the original but this remastered track overall is still very enjoyable to listen to. Maybe I'll start preferring this version later but who knows?
@@ramahermawan4598 Not really. In general, I actually prefer real instruments but I prefer some of the original versions of Xenoblade Chronicles tracks for nostalgic reasons but there are some tracks where I prefer the remastered version over the original like mechanical rhythm and agniratha night. This is one of the tracks where I kinda prefer the original.
I also had the same problem with Xenoblade 2 once I finished Xenoblade 1, but don't worry, if you continue through the story, Xenoblade 2 will become SO much better! Even if Xenoblade 1 is still my favorite game of the series, Xenoblade 2 is a close second!!

The very start and 1:36 are MMM. My absolute favorite parts of the song. I never played the original, though i watched a lp or two and listened the ost for it, but I have no memory of colony 9's night theme at all. I guess it didn't stand out enough for me when there were so many more songs/themes that were simply better. But for me, the definitive version stands out better now and having first hand context and listening to it in-game helps immeasurably. If the composer for this song did Chrono cross back in the day, that might be why I'm reminded of older rpgs when I hear these particular segments in the track. I do know one composed a song in xenoblade chronicles 2 that also starts off exactly like time's scar from Chrono cross (same composer). I don't know if it was intentional easter egg to their older work or they simply used it due to the base subject being very similar to each other at their core.
ShadowSkyX The Chrono Cross composer did work on this game, but only for 1 song lol (the ending theme). I get what you mean, though, and I feel like the other composers definitely took some notes from the Chrono games when composing this song and a couple others like Fallen Arm.
