You are absolutely, hands down, my favourite RUclips mechanic. You don't leave critical information out of your video and you don't ramble just to talk. Thanks for being so informative and easy to watch / listen too. I have already performed 6 repairs in the last month on my 2006 Ford Escape that just turned over 187,500 miles. Everything has gone smoothly. A few times, I had my phone handy so I could re-watch portions of your videos while doing the work. Please, keep them coming :-)
Dude , I have watched almost all of your videos and I thank god for you. The way you explain everything makes you a head and shoulders above most on the internet, and the world. Fist bump for taking the time to help us normal folk
You are amazing!!! I have followed your videos to successfully do repairs on my 2011 Ford Escape for the past 3 years. You have been right on things that mechanics who are physically looking at my car do not diagnose properly. You have made repairs doable for someone who isn not even mechanically inclined, and some that I would not have afforded the expensive shop prices in my area, to have had fixed. As a woman, I am now more confident in speaking with local mechanics because of your videos. You're a brilliant mechanic who is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!!!
Before watching your MOST EXCELLENT video, I wasted almost 30 minutes of my life on another RUclips video, for the same repair. You always make the BEST videos. Please don't stop making your ASTONISHINGLY BEAUTIFUL AND QUALITY videos.
Thank you for actually providing an easy to follow, step by step with actual clear video of each step.
Bought my 2011 escape and little did i know this was a common problem thanks to your video, I the mechanic novice got it going again been a week with no leaks. Tools I used where OEM Pilot Bearing Puller and slide hammer from Oreilly's and the Adjustable Bearing Race and Seal Driver from Autozone. Thanks Again!!
Did U rent those 2 tools, did U have to buy them?
That was an excellent video....we appreciate you making these, they are very helpful.
I had trouble to push the cv axle in until I found your video! It's so helpful! Thank you so much!!
I have been waiting for this set of instructions since the fusion video. Much appreciated, thanks for taking the time.
ManicMechanic007 I know, this job was sold February 3rd of this year and it finally came in.
ANOTHER GREAT VID BRIAN THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP.
Excellent video! Your videos are always very helpful
Excellent teacher! Fantastic communicator.
Muy buen video muy claro y entendible muchas gracias por tomar el tiempo para hacer este manifico video para lo que no sabemos que hacer gracias
Top notch video. Thanks so much! You covered everything you need to complete this repair, expect, my only question - how many hours of labour would you charge to do this job in a shop?
Man another great Video! You are the MAN!!! I went down to my buddies shop put my escape on the lift during oil change and found out my seal is leaking on mine! So I guess I have to take mine to get fixed.
I have exactly the same problem same transmission with my 2012 fusion. thank you for your detailed video. I am missing the special tool for the bushing. I am going to see if I can find a special tool Bushing Cutter that does not damage the case.
FordTecMakuloco yes I inspected the shaft for scratches ans groves and it looked good but I didn't use a ford seal.
I really appreciate you making this video. Great job!
The only suggestion I have is when loosening or tightening a nut bolt combination hold the bolt and turn the nut. That give the least resistance and a greatly reduced chance of breaking a bolt.
In torquing it provides a much more accurate torque because the shaft of the bolt friction gives false torque readings.
A old Machinist taught me that 10,000,000 years ago.
Thank you for taking the time on this video. Just did the exact job and it was easy thanks to your video
Gracias por el video. Este es uno de los mejores trabajos realizados.
Thanks Brian maybe I can diagnosis my problem myself. . you do great work.. video's too.. Thanks Brother
FWIW, although the WSM says to drain the trans you don't need to. During the process you only lose a minimal amount of fluid. Once done just a little top off is needed. Saves time and fluid.
I just did this job on my Escape. I purchased this Blind Hole 10pc Slide Hammer Pilot Bearing Puller Internal Extractor Removal Kit from amazon but the largest puller is not big enough. Luckily I could machine the collet to allow it to expand a little further. Also I machined a bushing installer and if you don't have a lathe a local machine shop could do this for you.
grasias por toda esa informacion pon videos en los cuales podramos aprender a leer los diagramas
Great vids Brian. I have an 06 escape cd4e trans . I have replaced the seals twice. The Ford brand seal was definitely better than tken seal. I have slop up and down where the axle meets the trans.. You have said this is normal. My car has a high speed shimmy. the tires look good and I have had the tires balanced. The problem still exists. I was wondering if the old bushing is causing this?
Just did this on a 2009, hardest part was removing the old bushing, I didn't have a puller large enough so I used a mini sawzall and cut a notch in the old bushing. After that this is a very easy job
Well done and easy to follow.
awesome vid ! i was very impressed you even gave all the torque spec's of each sized nuts and bolt to reassemble. alot of people forget or just don't go as far into detail. keep up the awesome vids.
MyPuppers I figure it helps to see what tools and sizes will be needed many don't have the expansive collection like I do just laying around.
Hey buddy thanks for all the 2001 Ford Escape help NYC usar
Excellent work, as usual!!
Excellent info as usual, thanks man and thumbs UP
The blind hole puller set #27128 from Autozone will work, the largest size puller says it goes to 1 1/4' but it will extend a little further than that and will fit the bushing which is about an 1 3/8". I used the Bearing Race and Seal Driver set #67034 from O'Reillys to install the new bushing and the seal. Both tools can be rented for free.
+William Murphy FREE! Awesome great info thanks for sharing.
Thanks..!!
How did you figure the depth for the new bushing?
@@SimonKlit Its been a while now, I can't remember if there was a stop for the bushing or if I just set it flush with the case. The video may show it.
@@mugga5590 thank you for your reply! That’s good enough, I’ll give it a whirl. Did yours start leaking again?
Thanks for the video, replaced the CV axle and the seal on my 11 Escape. When I asked the dealer if I could borrow the bushing remover tool they looked at me like I had a certain something growing from my forehead
Do you have part number for bushing and seal I want a new axle and not have to put together
Hey man great video! Very helpful thank you!
Great help at least helping understand the process ,the tools are needed to keep from damaging parts .thanks
Are there any major differences between the 2009-2012 Escapes and the 2013-present Escapes? Gonna start the repair tomorrow and want to make sure I know what to do (steps/sockets/etc). Thanks!
2005 2wd 6cyl Thanks for the response
My escape has a concentric bolt to do wheel alignment (top only) when I replaced my wheel bearing and needed an alignnment did the 2008+ change the design to no longer need these?
EXCELLENT video (as usual)!!! I do have a question. I just changed the left front wheel bearing on my daughters 2009 Escape. I got the knuckle assembled onto the lower ball joint and then the rain started (having to work outside sucks). So, while everything is basically still disassembled it seems it would be a good time to proactively install the bearing, seal and stub shaft kit. The question is, does the 2009 still require the kit, or was the inboard shaft micro-finish problem fixed at the factory level in 2009? Thank you again for doing ALL you videos!! You are the best at this!!!!!
Thank you so much for within review I just watched your video And fix my SUV thank you
Looks straight foreword. Other than the fluid leak, is there any other symptons of a bad bushing ? Grinding, steering pulsation on acceration, etc ??
Will this part also work on the 2010 ford escape 2.5 xlt awd
I have a 2005 Mercury Mariner V6 4WD that I believe has this issue. Is a similar kit available for it or would it be the same one?
Hi will this be the same work for 2013 Ford Taurus police interceptor the only thing I am worry is about the oil spill
First off, Thank you for the video. My 2010 FWD Escape is ready for surgery! When I call up the TX 682 part, I'm told "this part Does Not fit my vehicle. It then refers me to TX 585. Can you tell me what the difference is and why, if you are using the 682, why I can't. I want to be sure before I order. Thanks again!
Great explanation congratulation my friend you are a professor.
You mentioned Mercon lv, I have an '04 mazda tribute lx 3.0 and will change the xmission fluid. Do you recommend Mercon v fluid, thanks and love your helpful videos.
Is this issue present in the hybrid transmissions as well? Have a 2013.
Excellent video, thanks!
Very good communicator.
I have a 2013 escape that is leaking trans fluid from the axle seal. Is this kit available for my car and if so what would be the part number? Thank you for any help
I just tried installing this kit on my 2010 and ran into some issues since I live in the rust belt. No matter what tool I threw at it, that cv axle would not separate from the hub. Air hammer, bfg, 3 jaw puller and even map gas torch didn't work. I disconnected the tie rod end and separated and assembled the transaxle side cv with the axle still in the hub...it sucked.
How long should this seal normally last? I have about 92,000mi., should I expect this fail at this mileage, or is it likely due to the faulty design you mentioned? I have a 2010 Ford Fusion and this is slowly leaking fluid...noticed a few spots under the car and it looks as if that's where it's coming from.
I have this problem on a 2011 Escape. will this video cover that? I cannot find what car you're working on. thanks
I have an 05 Mariner 4WD and I think the LH shaft seal is leaking from what I can tell. I'm not a mechanic, but I'm taking it in to get looked at tomorrow, thanks for the informative video. This gives me an idea of what the cost might be.....
What is the purpose of that silver collar that’s left on the half shaft inner side? Is that just a dust cover for the inner seal? It seems to just sit on there. About to do a reassemble on my same escape, but not sure if that silver collar just rides there or something.
Ford TechMakuloco ,Hi I was just wondering if you could help me out again ,I have a 2001 Escape that has a buzzing sound coming from the relay under the hood for the driving lights and a slit buzzing sound from the two relays under the dash up in the top corner by the kick panel on the drivers side. I have change the relays under the dash and they still buzz, when I turn on the lights the sound is gone. I changed out the the relay under the hood but It still buzz when the headlights aren't on, , some times the driving lights wont turn on so I just turn my headlights on all the time so I don't hear the buzzing.I was wondering what would cause the relays to buzz so load and sometimes when the driving lights are on they seem to dim out or have a slite flashing to them, thanks again for your help.
Hello i would like to thank the Ford Tech Makuloco for the great video on replacing the left seal , bushing & stub shaft on my 2010 ford escape . I got a quote from a local repair shop in our town and he quoted me $3500 , so i took it to a Ford dealer repair shop in Vernon BC and the tatal bill was less than $ 700 parts and labour . I asked the service manager if he had seen your video and he said he had . some times it is way better to go back to a service shop , that sells your make of vehicle. Great video and very knowledgable mechanic. Thanks for saving me close to $3000 dollars .George Bubuik
Has it still been good for you? I have an '11 and they quoted me about $650 or so from one and $800-$1,100 from another shop... Ive heard it can start leaking again after fix...
I had this problem last week. Was experiencing rough shifting so I checked fluid level. To my surprise it was low. I figured I'd just change the transmission fluid but when I got under there I noticed the leak. I took it to Robin Ford in Glenolden, Pa since it is still under warranty. When I picked it up I again noticed some hard shifting. Checked the fluid and it was overfilled. Also noticed the hood prop was not placed back in its holder (the little things). I looked under the trans and sure enough, they did not change the Stub Shaft. I can't be sure because I can't check it. but I bet they didn't replace the bushing either, and I'd bet my paycheck they didn't wipe out the old grease and replace it. What can I do in this situation other than go back and complain?, Maybe they will replace the Stub Shaft, but I'm sure these slobs won't replace the bearing.
I am now noticing slow cranking since picking it up. Coincidence?? How can I trust these guys? I checked battery voltage after she sat overnight and it read under 11V. I started it up, getting even slower crank, and I am getting 14.6 V. Took the battery out to put it on charge and it went to full charge in a couple of minutes. Took it off charge and it read 12.6V. What would cause the battery to read low voltage when in the car with nothing on?
To top it off it's Thanksgiving day and I can't go there and choke anyone.
I just did my transmission fluid drain and fill on my escape 09 4wd. I discovered what I think is the left hand axel leak as shown above. Anyone know if draining the fluid is required for this job? I just changed it out and used 10 quarts doing the drain and fills to get it all out. So I really hope not. Also any repair estimates for this job ? Time it takes ect?
good info very clean tech
Is the bushing puller tool the same for the CD4E transmission? If yes , what are the Ford tool part numbers for puller and installer?
FordTecMaculoco thank you for the reply and I did clean the surface. The shaft did not seam grooved but the seal wasn't a ford seal. I had my car on the hoist today and Im thinking there is excessive slop in the shaft and bushing. I can push it up and down and you can hear a clunk. Im not talking in and out. It looks like a repair sleeve is sold for my model but that real sucks if the whole trans needs pulled to do it. Would I be better off with a remanufactured Trans if thats the case?
Yes if you push up and down there will be slop. Few things make sure you install a Ford seal and be sure the garter spring stays in place after the replacement.
I have a 2007 escape 2.3L 4cyl. :
I was wondering if its the bushing and seal if I can move the axle up/down while its sitting in the trans. Of course its when I remove the suspension and brake from axle. Someone told me its the transmission, but now viewing this video im thinking its the bushing and seal.
Just got my 2014 Ford Escape back from the dealer and they said I need a new bushing and seal and also an entire new axel. Do you think they were saying to replace the axel just to be safe? It's the most expensive part and I don't want to replace it if it doesn't really need to... Have you replaced any axels? If so, what goes bad with them?
Excellent guide.
Hi. I would like to know if they send a new boot why didn’t you use it?
Thanks
Anyone Know if the 2013-2016 Ford Focus ST 6 speed manual same like fusion. I was told any 1.6turbo or 2.0turbo use the same Engine. I wanted to swap the Ford Focus RS Engine and drivetrain into my car. but don't know if they will fit. Also what other parts do I need besides the transmission. I've found the 6 speed manual for really cheap with 3 year warranty. However it says the 2013-2016 Ford 2.0Turbo Ecoboost 1999cc AWD. Also looking to buy a wrecked 2016 to upgrade center console and upgrade Apims for syn 3 but first need to install 6 speed Manual , new custom Coilovers for adjustable ride height. Stage 3 turbo kit, but First I need to install the 6 speed manual. I need to know if I was told right.
Can this same procedure be done on a CD4E 2002 mazda tribute
Hi I bought Bushing Remover- 308-070 and it seems to be too small and there is nothing to expand the claws. Also the one you used looks different. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hey bud I just installed my second seal a nd it still seeping..any thoughts? Would Help.
FordTechMakuLoco - I have the CD4E 08 Escape. I believe my seal is leaking. Is this common on my model? Is there a kit?
hello. i have ford escape hybrid 2009. can you tell me please it is the same on the hybrid?
Is it worth putting a remanifactured 6f35 transmission in a 2011 Ford Fusion, it is having shifting problems.
You have helped my mechanic when WE both were baffled! Beware of those lugnuts they swell!!!! if scratched
Hey i got a 2014 ford escape 1.6L ecoboost and im getting a shift solenoid b performance or stuck on code and my car isn’t reversing now and when it was able to on the highway it would overheat at 80 mph . Any suggestions???
Does the 08-12 Escape Hybrids have the bushing too? I tried going to Ford and they informed me they don’t sell internals for the CVT transmission.
Great video and excellent filming!
Who da man? FordTechMakuloco's da man!!!
Would you be able to measure the diameters of the 308-664 bushing installer and tell them to me? I would like to make a tool on my lathe and need to know the diameter that goes into the bushing and pushes on the bushing to allow for the bushing getting smaller as its pressed in.
Great clip keep up the good work. Just wanted to know if we were to change the bushing on the right side with same part # as the left side would it be safe or worth doing it if we didn't change the stub shaft.
JPJMotorsports I think the rh side is only changed by splitting the case either way the rh side bushing is never a problem and shouldn't be changed.
Hope you can help me. I have the famous 2014 escape 1.6L 2wd Titanium with a Bad Transmission. What other Vehicles have the same Transmission ? Thanks either way. Joe
FordTechMakuloco - Love your videos. Very clear and helpful!
With the Covid-19 I have extra time on my hands so trying to do this repair. Running into a challence removing the axle from the transmission housing. In neutral, and I've rotated it a few times. Cannot seem to remove it. I don't want to force it and potentially cause internal damage or external damage to the housing. Anything else I can check or try?
For anyone else having this same problem, I finally got it. Just kept rotating and prying. It did NOT come out as easily as in this video! I had to really bang on it a few times! Looking in carefully, no internal damage visible nor any cracks to the housing. So just be ready to possibly have to really work at it.
AWESOME AND THANK YOU!
What's the bar you are using with the bearing and seal installers. Is that something we could borrow from the dealer as well?
Do you leave the vehicle in neutral or does the half shaft spin even when it's in park?
Does the cv axle tx559 have the corrected issue? Also could you send the correct part number for just the, seal and bushing if I get a new cv axle for LH?
i have ford escape 2010 3.0l awd is a good truck or is beter change for a new one i fix a lot lot a part whit your help and video
The escapes have always been great vehicles until the 2013 and newer models came around.
I’m having what seems to be the exact same issue on my 2013 Escape but the axel part numbers and all looks like they changed in 2013. Would you happen to know if this same kit would work or if there’s another kit for the 2013-???? whatever year till they changed again?
Is it the same part with 2013 Lincoln MKZ 2.0 seal
Great work , Thanks .
Is this a common recurring problem for Ford Escape? Just purchased a 2012 Ford Escape last week FWD only 30k miles..Had to tow it today. Bc transmission fluid was leaking real bad from the front axle. Found the previous owner had this axle seal replaced less than a month ago. And today its back in the shop same problem. You think I just got a bad seal? or is this a often a chronic problem ??
Thank you! This is very helpful! Where can I find the tools? Thank you.
hello , will this kit fit a 2013 escape 1.6 all wheel drive ?
I have a grinding noise when turning right. I suspected a wheel bearing so I replaced the knuckle assembly. Still makes noise. There is about 50 thousandths end play in the half shaft. The dealer said it was the ball joint, which doesn't make any sense and didn't feel loose at all. I paid the dealer for what ended up being a diagnostic since they didn't have the part in stock. Could it be that my cv shaft is bad?
I have a 2010 Mariner with a 6 under the tr on the B pillar which I believe is a 6F35 trans. I click the link to by the parts but Amazon is telling me it will not fit my car. I think it will but I just need a yes or no from someone.
Got this problem with my 2010 2.5L FWD Mercury Mariner. Got a new CV axle and seal installed, shop didn't know about the bushing. Still leaking. Bushing is backordered and won't be here for a week, can I drive it if I check my tranny levels after every drive and top up as needed?
