Glad to hear Jon mention tires being a big part in braking. Most people don't realize tires make a big difference in braking distance.

I used the DS2500 pads for street, track, and autocross use in a GD STi. It's the best "do it all" pad I've used in all my years of automotive enthusiast driving. I've recently changed to dedicated track pads & rotors and autocross pads & rotors since I don't daily drive the car. The track pads are noticeably better at high speed braking and the autocross pads are extremely aggressive at cold temp braking. The noise and dust is extreme with the track/autocross pads. I found the Ferodo DS2500's to be very reasonable with regards to noise and dust.

Thanks for the comment. The Ferodo DS2500 are definitely a good pad.

Good video, probably could have added that you can typically mix match compounds front and back, they don't necessarily need to match

Thanks for the comment. That is definitely true, though it can depend on the circumstances sometimes.

I'm running the HPS , but I don't think they have enough bight for me on the street or maybe I've gotten too much heat into them I'm not sure. probably going to do some EBC yellows.

There are definitely some pad options that are still pretty civilized, but have more initial bite than the HPS. The HPS 5.0 or Ferodo DS2500 would be other good options to look at.

The new Pagid Street Plus brake pads is a good option.

Great info! Do you guys happen to sell rebuild kits for the 4pot/2pot calipers?

Great video. However, my experience with the Hawk HPS pad is completely at odds with Jon's. They dusted like a schoolteacher's chalk, squealed like a stuck pig, and faded instantaneously after one hard stop from speed (200+ kph). High performance brake fluid (Motul RBF 600) made not an iota of difference. I had them on a 2007 JDM Forester STi. Most overrated product in the performance aftermarket, and that's saying A LOT!
Here's a question for you - I have a 2001 bugeye STi with Tein coilovers, but no other suspension mods. What suspension modifications would you recommend for autocross and tight, technical track use to improve its handling?

P.S. I now run the Project µ HC+ brake pads, and oh my God they are bloody amazing! Yes, they dust, but I have yet to get them to fade, and the consistency from initial bite to full brake pedal pressure is delightful. The feel is unparalleled. These things are man's best discovery since fire, they are THAT terrific!

Thanks for your comment. That is definitely interesting to hear. Many years ago I tracked HPS pads, and they worked okay. But they do have a pretty low maximum operating temp, and it is easy to get them too hot. Once that happens, the pads are definitely compromised.
Having now used a lot of different compounds, I definitely would only recommend them for street use.
