My experience of watching Turkey change is that in the 80’s I could go to the market and buy gorgeous local crafted clothes, material, foods. But when I returned with my children in mid 2000’s after a gap of about 10 years, all the markets sold were counterfeit items. Mikes upon miles of counterfeit jeans that bore no resemblance to the real ones apart from a label sewn on. And the teas, spices and Turkish delight was all mass produced and pre-boxed. More tourists putting higher demand on the industry in the now sprawling tourist areas is mainly to blame for this. Also the difference in how I was treated from being a teen and then mid twenties had also changed. Manners had left the area. I was propositioned for a night of entertainment in front of my children many times. I responded by telling them they bring shame to themselves and their family by speaking to a mother that way.
In Turkey, they know tourism is ruining their country, but they have grown to rely on it and the attitude towards foreigners has changed. I still made friends with locals, but with many there was always a catch like can I stand CD’s or tapes of rock music out to them. That was a common one. The next time I Go, I will go to a more out of the way place, a village area & see if that holds the same values Turkey pre popular tourism took over.

Saying a “luxury brand sells exclusivity” in one sentence and then saying ‘because no one who actually can afford luxury would shop in a counterfeit mall and therefore these malls aren’t actually hurting authentic goods sales’ is a contradiction.
Any counterfeit good sold anywhere at any price DOES IMPACT authentic goods sales and brand value.
This Indian market has nothing on China. China is the world’s worst perpetrator of counterfeit goods; there is no #2.

Lol I used to stay in South Bombay for 5 years and this market was very close to our home. Every guest who visited us be it from or outside of India, loved to visit this market.
Firstly, the owners themselves accept that the products are not original. The quality of the products is similar to other affordable brands but these firstcopy products have tag of luxury brands - this is what attracts us the most.
I personally love Heera Panna market when ever I want to buy an easily disposable seemingly luxurious product... Even my friends love it and it's one of the very few markets in India which has products for everyone and not iust females.
There is wide variety of products, accessories, innerwear, sex toys and what not... The only drawback is the extent of bargaining one has to do.
A product of 1200rs can be sold to someone at 900rs and someone who is good at bargaining, can get it for 400rs.

It's one thing to make a video of himself getting scammed or pointing out to an area where fake products are sold to alert people, but to enter these locations on purpose to examine and investigate further and talk about how they avoid raid etc. am not sure is a wise thing Tourist visas don't allow certain activities , he is a foreigner unless he has a different visa now. Why don't you see luxury cars or handicrafts getting counterfieted ?
    1) Because they're complex to build with enough checks & balances, and
    2) They're reasonably priced for a counterfeiters to actually make some profit out of it.
All big brands import their goods from sweatshops in China, India , Thailand and South East Asia infamous for poor labour conditions but then are the first to cry out if they get the same treatment in return by the very own suppliers who try to make best use of their acquired skills. I am not justifying counterfeiting but for me something that can be copied without much effort shows how much that 'brand' relies on these sweatshops and is basically marketing something they buy off cheaply and sell for a fortune without actually doing much for it. Anything like this lacks inherent quality in itself and is nothing more than a nuisance value. Personally I would never buy something just because it's 'expensive' and for it being a visual treat but unfortunately it is also those people who step in wanting to get a slice of something they KNOW they can't afford but can't do away with that yearning as well !
