  • Learning how to survive on an increasingly crowded planet is probably our ultimate challenge. But there’s one place, home to over a sixth of the world’s population, which is already making a good shot at adapting: welcome to India. This extraordinary observational series casts aside the usual preconceptions about the sub-continent, and lets a few of India’s 1.2 billion show how their world really works.

The poverty, the hustling, the everyday struggles, the loan shark, the unfair gold boss, the unfair guy with the gold smelter and then you see their smiles, hear their laughter see them in their fun days just playing cricket and their lives just go on living on hope and faith that one day I'll make it big and get out of here...I wish all them them the very best that life can offer them👏👏👏🙏

My recent trip to Chicago, i was fortunate enough to meet an European man who is working in US. He visited Gurgaon and Bangalore and by knowing me as Indian told me that these western people though tell lot of bad things about India but i have seen rising India which almost 99% of the world are not aware of due to such documentary. The story of the young gold digger who broke away from his tyranic boss & landlord to become his own boss, formed his own clan & found a roof over their head deserves a movie. He is so smart & knew he could do better than his boss, treat his own worker better for much better return on investment, find a better buyer, hire a taxi to get there quick. I bet he will rise to the top some day. However, the people surviving on the beach selling alcohol, I feel sorry for them because a solid roof over your head is the first step in the human hierarchy of need without a roof, there's no safety ^ you can't function properly plus selling alcohol which only brings more human misery, is a bad combination.

@NavyaSagittarius So we should gatekeep people's access to educational information just because they're white? Sounds racist. Don't you think it'd be better for them to educate themselves about life in other countries rather than remaining completely oblivious to it?
The fact that Kolkata is one of the poorest cities in the world is the reason it's interesting and important to document, and both Indian and English-speaking filmmakers have made documentaries about it. There just probably aren't as many Indian filmmakers compared to English-speaking ones since the equipment is so expensive, and besides, Indian filmmakers are likely releasing their films in their own country/language anyway.

That combined, with just the stuff that makes it’s way down there from the streets above (like where these guys are panning). I saw that documentary a few years ago and I was absolutely HORRIFIED!!! A middle class western, or European family has the same daily struggles within your family. The wife getting mad at the husband for not doing his chores, getting kids ready for school, and kids pestering their busy moms while dad is 5ft away doing nothing. I suppose they have the best thing in the world what we all want. To be loved

I guess this is 2014, in the present days more than 11 million new houses are built for the ones who cannot afford. Not many die from hunger, in india we have a worse epidemic of people being not so productive but that's slowly vanishing as basic necessities are available to everyone

To see how happy this young man is for this one room, makes me appreciate what I have all the more. Too bad someone doesn’t give this young man a chance at a better job. Amazing that he speaks English so well. I wish him all the best. Shame that their PM isn’t helping these people.

There are many languages spoken in India but English is the language understood by most people because it is the one that links everyone to everyone else. There are 50 English newspapers - far more than any other language.

this is a decade old filmed documentary, before the current government , before india overtook england in gdp, before the digitalization, before the startup boom.
You can easily tell this by looking at the 100 rupee and 10 rupee notes they showed in the intro😂, they dont print those anymore, wtf...

India is overall very diverse from inside The crowd, chaos which you see is just a tiny part of that with the rest of the parts being completely difference For example you can experience a silent forest trek in Himalayan mountains with old buddhist monasteries if you go to Northeast india, you can see a version of Tibet in Ladakh, you can see a natural retreat in the mountain valley in Himachal Pradesh You can experience a typical seaside beach in Goa, you can experience the beauty of tropical backwaters in Kerala and a old European town vibe in the city of Kochi You can be amazed to see the flora and fauna of Ooty a hill station in South India + mountain railway ride in Darjeeling, Himachal Pradesh Moreover you can even experience snowfall in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh Better watch the travel vlogs of India made by american, british youtubers like Ride with Gabi, Those happy days, Dannys Gotta world loose!!!! There is a lot of propaganda in youtube these days against China, India
