Great, great list! There's a few albums i haven't heard yet but that's an issue that will soon be resolved . I'd like it more if Richard Thompson's Ship to Shore were on it but that's niggling. Eels, St. Vincent, the Smile, Nick Cave! Great work!
Adrianne Lenker has landed on my record of year lists over the years. This is her best work in my opinion. Just saw her live and it was pure magic, if you get the chance to see her in concert do it!
I think you'd like the latest by Willie Watson, a former member of Old Crow. Very melancholy folk music. The latest by the Avett Brothers is also very introspective. Nice to see the Lemon Twigs make the cut!
My Top 5: 1. The Last Dinner Party - Prelude To Ecstasy 2. Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubelee 3. The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World 4. Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Wild God 5. Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
With some of the criterion mentioned: challenging, creative, thought provoking I am surprised Geordie Greep’s album didn’t sneak in. Thank you for the thoughtful list, definitely a few I missed and some I may need to rethink.
Love your voice and the way you describe the artists and records. When young, i was a dj in Spain, and i enjoy music so much when i feel that somebody enjoy music, is like a fiesta. Now i have to listen to your picks. Take good care and keep rocking!!
Great list Mazzy. Love Adrianne Lenker, so well deserved. So much in there that I like and am listening to. Nick Cave as always. Wings of Desire also one of my favourite films. I love Crime & the City Solution. Thanks again for sharing and doing this. Enjoy the festive season. ❤🙏
Saw Adrienne Lenker at Big Ears Fedtval in Knoxville,TN last year. One of my daughter's who lives in Los Angeles insisted we check her out. Or to be more precise "Dad, if I had known she was playing here that would have been all I needed to justify the trip ". It was an amazing performance and she totally deserves all the recognition coming her way.
Great list Mazzy! Kim Deal album is truly fantastic. When the horns section kicks in on the title track, I was surprised and happy at the same time. Also, one of the last projects that Steve Albini worked on.
1 songs of a lost world (the cure) 2 luck & strange (David Gilmour) 3 i hope it will be diving deep live (Tori Amos) that will be released on 6th december.
great selection and some new stuff for me to check out, agree with Bright Future as No.1....I regard Adrianne Lenker is one of the best song writers of this generation and past generations. The one album I really like which is not in your selection is Hania Rani 'Nostalgia'....which is a live 2024 concert recording of her 2023 album 'Ghosts'.....thank you for your selections.
Hey Mazzy, great video as always, really have become a fan of your posts over this year. I think you have chosen well with adrianne lenker album. I find it open with a sense of freedom somehow; beautifully crafted and a joy every time I play it; hence it’s my number one too for 2024. All the best and catch you on the next one. Killer hat btw 😊
Always cool to see what others are listening to. My top 12 this year. Four Year Strong - analysis paralysis IST IST - Light A Bigger Fire Left Lane Cruiser - Bayport Bbq Blues Leprous - Melodies Of Atonement Madder Mortem - Old Eyes, New Heart PIG - Red Room The Pineapple Thief - It Leads To This Subway To Sally - Post Mortem Twelve Foot Ninja - Mutant Dreams And Face Transplants An Acoustic Experience Vanden Plas - The Empyrean Equation Of The Long Lost Things The Vision Bleak - Weird Tales Wussy - Cincinnati Ohio

Great list. I also quite like The Smile Cutouts after not being captured by the first two. Also love the Wings of Desire mention regarding Nick Cave. It's one of my favourite movies on so many levels. Shout out to the band Crime and the City Solution also in that movie. Very underrated!
Thank you Mazzy, really enjoyed your list. Adrianne Lenkerr is terrific. Have you listened to Waxahatchee or Sierra Ferrell? You might dig their 2024 releases too. Bored from Waxahatchee, or I Could Drive you Crazy from Sierra Ferrell. That Kim Deal album was a nice surprise.
Great list! Heres my top 5 1. The smile - Cutouts 2.Knocked Loose - you won't go before you're supposed to 3. MJ lenderman - Manning Fireworks 4. Fontaines D.C. - Romance 5. Goat - Goat
Thanks for another great video. And i could like to thank you again for getting me into "americana/country" music. I'm 56 but you know... never to old for many things...
Good video. I saw Robyn Hitchcock two times. Once when he was touring for Ole Tarantula in 06 and when he played I Often Dream of Trains all the way through. It was in a tiny theatre with only floor seating. Both excellent shows.
My list so far: Disco Biscuits-Revolution In Motion, Lotus-How To Dream In Color, Beebadoobee-This Is How Tomorrow Moves, Lawrence-Family Business, MJ Lenderman-Manning Fireworks, Michael Kiwanuka-Small Changes, Johnnie Blue Skies-Passage Du Desir, Smashing Pumpkins-Aghori Mhori Mei, King Gizzard & Lizard Wizard-Flight B741, The Warning-Keep Em Fed, Yam Yam-Slurp Slurp, Unleash The Archers-Phantoma, Liam Gallagher & John Squire-S/T, Krang-Listens To Krang Once, Phish-Evolution, Half Past Two- Talk Is Killing Me, Shabaka-Perceive It's Beauty, Acknowledge It's Grace
Just curious, how many hours a week do you just sit and listen to your music? Do you listen via streaming or do you mostly invest in the physical versions? I really enjoy your descriptions of the stuff you love. Thanks Mazzy.
@ after getting away from listening I’ve reengaged after investing some retirement income in a new Cambridge amp, Fluance turntable and a WiiM Streamer. As winter sets in up her in Toronto, Canada I’ve started spending 2-3 hours a day reconnecting with old vinyl and CD friends and it’s been awesome. Funny how music takes you right back to that moment in time whether it be a concert, a first listen or a shared moment. Thanks for all you do Mazzy.
Thanks for another edutational video! 2024 went by too fast for me to digest all the music I wanted to listen to. Most of my 2024 albums only got a few plays each as I was just too busy. I'll be getting a vacation for 10 days at the end of the year and I'm hoping to really dig into the vinyl. All that said... SOS by Nice Biscuit is probably going to be my number 1 album. Definitely check that out!
In Scotland we have green bowling. The indoor stuff we used to call skittles. Knock the skittles down /strike etc. well done Mazzy. Love your stuff. So many great albums this year.
Welch n Rawlings. Sweet, always time to shoot them praise. I like that he’s behind the new record plant. Lots of good music to try here. Nice work Mazzy
I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to see that you have St Vincent on your list. To me she is the greatest singer/song writer/guitarist in the last I don't know how many years. I saw her live about 4 years ago, and she is a truly great musician. Your number one Adrianne Lenker is a fabulous choice. Here again is a true artist, a natural. Big Thief is one of the best bands of this century, period. I really like your list; I love it when you talk about recent releases. Always enjoyable, Mazzy thank you kind sir.
That Adrianne Lenker album is my top album too. I also loved that Cindy Lee, Diamond Jubilee, and Hurray For the Riff Raff, The Past is Still Alive which were top notch.
Just found your channel today and have discovered so many new things to listen to, thank you! I'm your age and have listened to music since the 60s, anyway.. do you ever explore real indie musicians that are not published, that share their music in SoundCloud?
These are my favorites 24. Greetings from Germany. Was a great year as far as music: 1.Wild God von Nick Cave 2.Vampire Weekend 3.The Cure 4.Beth Gibbons 5.The Felice Brothers 6.The Decemberists 7.Billie Eilish 8.Adrianne Lenker 9.Julian Lage 10.The Lemon Twigs 11.Big Big Train 12.Cassandra Jenkins 13.Gillian Welsch & David Rawkins 14.Bright Eyes 15.Brittany Howard 16.Charles Lloyd 17.Pet Shop Boys 18.The Last Dinner Party 19.Bill Callahan 20.Father John Misty
Love your passion and ideas. Nick Cave looking "so happy"... not sure but relative to other points in time I think I understand what you are saying. Ha, thank you for the video.
With you on The Lemon Twigs and The Smile releases .. Thanks for putting this together, always a highlight at year end. Already looking forward to casting an eye over the reissue list when it drops. Given the volume of boxsets and archival goodies this past 12 months, it should be a good one. Music Books .. Now there's another list worthy of consideration. Keep up the good work Mazzy. 👍🏼
Hi Mazzy, thanks a lot for your (quite early) review of your 2024 favourite albums. Just for fun I compared your top 23 list with Mojo Magazine's list and of course what supposes to become my own list. There is quite a big part of similarities, but, naturally, a big part of differences. And that is part of the fun I like with these kind of lists, i.e. what might have went underneath my radar. One word to Adrianne Lenker: I love her album, her voice, the arrangements a lot. But still I haven't bought the record just because I don't like Vampire Empire's pitch levels changes. I also thought of Michelle Shocked, by the way. Coincidence?
Great stuff here Mazzy…I Am interested in a couple for my collection from these…seems the feature throughout these choices are very artistic, creative, intelligent albums…makes sense given your own perspective and intellect. ✌️
I'm always chuffed to see anyone older than me who hasn't given up on new music. I may be dead inside, but I remain driven to hear the next great new album. I've been a fan of St. Vincent's musicianship from the beginning, but lost interest in her music for a long time. I listen to 'em, and saw her live a few times, but she all but stopped playing guitar for several albums. At least the new one rocks in a couple spots. A more colorful, psychedelic option is Rosalie Cunningham - To Shoot Another Day. She's just as talented as Annie, but way more fun to my ears. She lead a couple bands, Ipso Facto and Purson, played most of the instruments in recordings, and the latest is her third solo album. Excellent theatrical psych prog. Another very cool band I think you'd dig is The Sea Kings. Ten years after their debut, their second album, Fear is All Around was worth the wait. The subhead to my review: Glasgow’s masters of literate guitar pop follow up their underrated debut with another stunning classic with a higher body count than most death metal albums and slasher films.
If you like hard rock, check out the band the Warning they have some killer music and a cult following. You wont be disappointed they have so many bangers. Their most recent album is Keep me Fed.
@@mazzysmusic I recently completed my Fester's Lucky 13: 2024 Year-End Summary. Yours made my Lucky 13 list for RUclips channels! Here's a curated list of albums just for you, exluding ones already in your list. Lucky 13 page linked in my profile for all the extensive genre lists and blurbs. 1. The Sea Kings - Fear is All Around 2. Rosalie Cunningham - To Shoot Another Day 3. Levitation Room - Strange Weather 4. White Denim - 12 5. Caldwell - Caldwell 6. Redd Kross - Redd Kross 7. The Resonars - Electricity Plus 8. Peter Perrett - The Cleansing 9. Nala Sinephro - Endlessness 10. Arooj Aftab - Night Reign 11. The Galileo 7 - You, Me and Reality 12. Susan James - Time is Now 13. Good Looks - Lived Here for a While
Nice list! Many of your picks will end up in my year end list as well. Glad you mentioned the Black Keys record, which not many took notice of. Sorry, I just can't get into Adrianne Lenker. I tried many times but it always seems to me that she is crying throughout the entire record. And I LOVE sad music, but just can't get into Adrianne. That Shabaka record has piqued my interest now...
My album of the year is Kathryn Williams & Withered Hand's "Willson Williams". It doesn't feature in ANY of the monthly music mags end of year charts (probably because none of their writers bothered to listen to it) and it's probably only sold a few hundred copies but it's a masterpiece of catchy melancholic indie folk that really rewards repeat listens.
hey mazzy..cool list..and i dont own a single one of them... (it's been that kind of year...) but always great to hear about them..and i love that dark, moody sound as well.. hope you're staying well..keep warm my friend..peace..rocky
There is a lot here I still need to listen to or give another chance. Currently listening to Michael Kiwanuka- it's really really good 👍 Here's my list: 1. Father John Misty- "Mahashmashana" 2. The Lemon Twigs- "A Dream is All We Know" 3. Francis of Delirium- "Lighthouse" 4. Lizzy McAlpine- "Older" 5. Josh Garrels- "Seek Hi Seek Lo" 6. Caligula's Horse- "Charcoal Grace" 7. Kacey Musgraves- "Deeper Well" 8. Vampire Weekend- "Only God Was Above Us" 9. Zach Bryan- "The Great American Bar Scene" 10. Arooj Aftab- "Night Reign" 11. The Cure- "Songs Of A Lost World" 12. Aquilus- "Bellum II" 13. Dangermuffin- "Dangermuffin" 14. Fontaines D.C.- "Romance" 15. Opeth- "The Last Will And Testament" 16. Imminence- "The Black" 17. Benjamin Francis Leftwich- "Some Things Break" 18. Alcest- "Le Chants de l'Aurore" 19. David Gilmour- "Luck and Strange" 20. Adrianne Lenker- "Bright Future" 21. MGMT- "Loss of Life" 22. Leon Bridges- "Leon" 23. The Decemberists- "As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again"
Hello Norman, great list and a good year in music! A slightly different question...I wanted to order a sweatshirt from Tunnel Record. What size you have , then I need one size more... all the best from Germany Sascha
I agree with Lemon Twigs, Jessica Pratt and Eels. What about Waxahatchie? Tiger's Blood is awesome. And I took my teenage daughter to see her for her first concert and it was awesome too!
Mazzy's best of list is always an early Christmas present! I already had several of these but there are plenty more for to check out. Mazzy--stick with the Coward Brothers. It comes around.
enjoyed your vid mazzy - very professional presentation - full of adjectives - you tsckling new releases is a breath of fresh air - vc talking about the 79s , beatles, arena hard rock is not in my wheelhouse - i will get onto my list - particulsarly love beyonce, lemon twigs and that cure album - others on your list i've only heard once or twice like nich cave and your number 2 - i like the t bone burnett record and jut got a digital copy of the coward brothers thanks
That's the trouble with doing " best of albums " at the beginning of December, always be an album that is released at the end of the year.... Heavy Metal by Cameron Winter Maybe it's one for next year
Wow Mazzy..we have a lot in common musically but crazy we share the same lucky number 23..My birthday is on June 23rd, I wore 23 on a sports jersey, my grand daughter was born January 23rd in 2023…I always have pen and paper ready for this video..I got 8 albums that really interested me to check out..Cant argue with your number one..love that album as well..great job Mazzy❤❤❤❤glen
@ you’re in for a treat my friend if you give it your full undivided attention. Make sure you’ve got your headphones on 😊 Btw, I’m a 48 year old former grunge band guitarist and I’m fussy as hell, but Imaginal Disk just blew me away, prog pop, indie, funk sci-fi cinematic genius. 🔥
Here goes.........Wilco- Cousin, Eels-Time!, Grandaddy-Blu Wav, Iron And Wine-Light Verse, Pixies-Night The Zombies Came, Richard Thompson-Ship To Shore, Teenage Fanclub-Nothing Lasts Forever, Sufjan Stevens -Javelin, Tindersticks- Soft Tissue, Nick Lowe-Indoor Safari, Lemon Twigs- A Dream Is All We Know, Mercury Rev- Born Horses, Robyn Hitchcock- Vacations In The Past, Linda Thompson- Proxy Music.....The Decemberists -As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again.......Phew!!!
Two records I would add in what has been a great year….Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us and British band James and their fantastic record Yummy. Oh, and Kendrick.
10 favorite Albums of 2024 in no particular Order: Black Keys-Ohio Players, Julian Cope-Friar Truck, Robyn Hitchcock-1967 Vacations in the Past, Rick White & The Sadies- S/T, Lemon Twigs-A Dream is all we know, Peter Perrett-The Cleansing, Chuck Prophet-Wake the Dead, Amyl & The Sniffers-Cartoon Darkness, Nick Lowe-Indoor Safari, X-Smoke and Fiction!
I followed you enough this year to guess your number one from the beginning. And I was right! Best yearlist for 24 I've seen yet! ❤
Thank you for always expanding my horizons!
My Top 5:
1. The Last Dinner Party - Prelude To Ecstasy
2. Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubelee
3. The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World
4. Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Wild God
5. Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
My top two as well. Chappell Roan’s record exploded in 2024 and would be in my top five, but alas it’s released in 2023.
Last Dinner Party Rules
That Cindy Lee album is way too damn long
With some of the criterion mentioned: challenging, creative, thought provoking I am surprised Geordie Greep’s album didn’t sneak in.
Thank you for the thoughtful list, definitely a few I missed and some I may need to rethink.
Great list Mazzy! Do you know the UK band Tindersticks? They released the record Soft Tissue this year and seems like you might like them. Cheers
So GOOD !!!!!
Love your voice and the way you describe the artists and records. When young, i was a dj in Spain, and i enjoy music so much when i feel that somebody enjoy music, is like a fiesta. Now i have to listen to your picks. Take good care and keep rocking!!
great list , love it I would maybe add London Grammar --the greatest love

Great list! Would love to see a video dedicated to Super Furry Animals / Gruff Rhys
Jack White, No Name. Welch and Rawlings, Woodland.
Have you listened to Geordie Greep’s album “The New Sound” yet?
…and if so what’s the verdict?
That Beth Gibbons record is so impeccably produced and arranged.
Women are represented hard on your list and I’m so very here for it.

If you like hard rock, check out the band the Warning they have some killer music and a cult following. You wont be disappointed they have so many bangers.
Their most recent album is Keep me Fed.

The Cure- Songs Of A Lost World
Soul Asylum- Slowly But Surely
Old 97s- American Primitive
Dwight Yoakam- Brighter Days
Better Than Ezra- Super Magick
My album of the year is Kathryn Williams & Withered Hand's "Willson Williams". It doesn't feature in ANY of the monthly music mags end of year charts (probably because none of their writers bothered to listen to it) and it's probably only sold a few hundred copies but it's a masterpiece of catchy melancholic indie folk that really rewards repeat listens.
I haven’t heard it either
hey mazzy..cool list..and i dont own a single one of them...
(it's been that kind of year...)
but always great to hear about them..and i love that dark, moody sound as well..
hope you're staying well..keep warm my friend..peace..rocky

Hello Norman, great list and a good year in music! A slightly different question...I wanted to order a sweatshirt from Tunnel Record. What size you have , then I need one size more... all the best from Germany Sascha

My shirts are larges.
@mazzysmusic thx
I agree with Lemon Twigs, Jessica Pratt and Eels. What about Waxahatchie? Tiger's Blood is awesome. And I took my teenage daughter to see her for her first concert and it was awesome too!
Mazzy, THANKS---lots to chew on here...cheers
Mazzy's best of list is always an early Christmas present! I already had several of these but there are plenty more for to check out. Mazzy--stick with the Coward Brothers. It comes around.

I have been trying to figure out how i am going to describe The Kim Deal album on my best of 2024 video. You didn’t help 😂😂
Kim Deal and "Nobody loves you more"". Awesome! Thanks for the tip Mazzy!
That's the trouble with doing " best of albums " at the beginning of December, always be an album that is released at the end of the year....
Heavy Metal by Cameron Winter
Maybe it's one for next year
A lot of good tips!
Ok, but no 'One deep river' from Mark Knopfler (+The Boy ep)? You got to be kidding.
No joke 🤷🏻♂️🎸
Wow Mazzy..we have a lot in common musically but crazy we share the same lucky number 23..My birthday is on June 23rd, I wore 23 on a sports jersey, my grand daughter was born January 23rd in 2023…I always have pen and paper ready for this video..I got 8 albums that really interested me to check out..Cant argue with your number one..love that album as well..great job Mazzy❤❤❤❤glen
I’m the American version of you 🤠

Great list. And I agree that the Kim Deal album is very special. Mark Edgar Stuart is very high on my list. Have you heard it?
Need to check out that Kim Deal album. Cave & Bad Seeds rule!
Nice collection! "That doesn't make sense to me, but I don't care" 🍸
When Magdalena Bay’s Imaginal Disk isn’t included in one of these lists, I’m not surprised, I just know the reviewer hasn’t heard it
I have not
@ you’re in for a treat my friend if you give it your full undivided attention. Make sure you’ve got your headphones on 😊
Btw, I’m a 48 year old former grunge band guitarist and I’m fussy as hell, but Imaginal Disk just blew me away, prog pop, indie, funk sci-fi cinematic genius. 🔥
Thanks Mazzy!! Amazing👏👏👊
...will be exciting to see your list 👍
Fingers crossed!✌🏼
Hip list Mazzy, some I haven’t heard before and will check out
Mazzy! The dude on the left of The Coward Brothers is your doppelgänger mate 😉😂
