for those of us that grew up behind the iron curtain in the 60/70/80's the Voice of America was one of the few ways to get up to date news from what was happening in the world, but also to listen to the music that was banned in our countries, what you are holding there brother, is not jut some badass records, but some bad ass records that helped a lot of young kids to survive the yoke of communism, we would gather and secretly listen to the VOA. and discover that sweet sound of rock and roll, and we felt a little free for a while. Happy you got your hands on that collection dude.
Great video - the joy you have as a record collector is infectious. To all of the naysayers and people challenging you, clearly, you aren't going to let them bother you, and neither will we. You've given so much to the vinyl community - and to me personally! I've picked up dozens of records based on your love for them, including all of your releases. Keep on rockin'!
Thank you so much, your support and kind words mean more than you know. That’s my entire goal in all this, to bring people joy in life, if even in just a small way. Thanks for watching! 🙏🙏🙏
That HP Lovecraft record is absolutely amazing! Found them about 12 years ago when I was seeking out new music online and that album is one of the first ones I picked up when I started my vinyl collection recently. Very nice copy!
Basically, Voice of America would have had every great record ever made often in mint condish. Not to mention it is a historic once in a lifetime purchase opportunity in great condish mostly. I'm so happy that you got to participate in this incredible and historic vinyl purchase opportunity! Great picks. You deserve some of that VOA honey!
I was lucky enough to snag a record during tonights WhatNot auction. If you consider yourself a collector you should get ahold of at least one of these historic offerings. The numbering system on these records is a real cool conversation starter! Thanks Dillon for taking a chance on this collection and offering it to those of us that can’t get to your shop.
Wow Dylan , it's so nice to see someone who has such passion towards great music. I will never understand why people like bash others who put in the work to find such records. people don't understand the rich history of Voice of America . get doing the great work you and don't the haters .
Dylan, this is another fantastic video. I was psyched to see I have at least 20 of these bad boys, but now thanks to you i got to learn about all this goodness and hunt for the rest. It’s great that you give love to multiple genres of music too. It takes it to whole new sound odysseys
You prove that there is soooo much more out there in vinyl than what we think! Love all the recommendations and music history! Just the cover art alone is worth watching your video!
Dylan, Man, you hit the Mother load when you found this collection! I saw the earlier video where you were going through the warehouse…your eyes where as big as saucers buddy😮 I can’t believe there are people criticizing you for keeping some of the records or would dare question why you would keep one with “Catalogue Numbers on them.” Get a life folks! You busted your hump acquiring these LP’s and I hope Noble Records has made a nice profit from your labors. And of course, all your customers in store and on line, are the incredible recipients of your hard work. I was breaking out in a sweat looking at your original video! All the best to you and your family. Continued success to the great Noble Records Label and Store!!!
Appreciate you stickin it to the snobs haha! There are a ton of great collectors who are friendly and helpful but that 1% of snobs can seem huge. I love seeing the joy and excitement of someone finding great records! This collection is straight out of a dream. Unbelievable stuff!
That Freddie King is insainly brilliant. That version of "Goin Down" is my favorite version ever. And Leon Russel's all over that lp too. My folks have that E Burdon & The Animals lp too. It was my intro as well. Here in Philly I find a lot of great records, yet very well loved, esp those WAR lps.
Maury Muehleisen was Jim Croce’s guitarist. If you go watch any video of Jim Croce performing, Maury is sitting there with him playing on every major hit song that Jim Croce had.. He was killed in an airplane accident with Jim Croce at the height of their career. That record is very valuable . My father Al Stone helped start voice of America radio . It is wonderful to see you got these records.
Fun flip video, thanks for sharing & as I was watching my copy of Dryewater was delivered....thanks Dylan for doing what you are doing....time to go spin my new vinyl!
Great selection. if you want to try to get the permanent marker ink off the covers, you can carefully write over the permanent marker with a whiteboard marker of the same color. Try a very small amount on the marked cover to test it. Works best on glossy covers.
I have to say it always surprises me when you pinch the vinyl platter out. I mean, I’m not one to tell you any vinyl handling tips. You know what you’re doing obviously. But I will only slide a record, and I’ll blow into the jacket to open it enough for it to slide out 😂. But I love those 70s funk records.
Chairman of the board! Spent many an afternoon watching the General and crew soundcheck as a 9/10 yr old in the early seventies. Was one of my dad's favorite bands to book for shows along with the dramatics and Jay and the techniques
It's called provenance! That's why the dates and library writing doesn't bother me nor should anyone be too critical of it. If you don't like it, you don't but it shows the history and significance of the item you have. Big fan of that Psychedelic Psoul by Freak Scene. One of those records thats not too expensive but is sounds like a $500 psych lp, amazing! Is that a mono wlp? I have a mono stock copy, wondering if it exists as a white label.
Thanks Dom! I don’t think it exists as a white label. The smaller run Columbia titles usually didn’t, but thrilled to own it! Yours 100% right on the sound ☄️
Glad you showed Rich Mullins. He was so pivotal in me coming back to The Father. Rich was such a great singer song writer. He's been gone since 1997. I have all his music on CD's and a few on vinyl as well. Would love to get the rest that were offered on vinyl. Shalom and love Dillon.....
Nice! Love that you got rid of that bad karma with the JB record. Just one of those quirky choices we all make with our collections! All this VOA stuff has been hugely fun to watch. Thanks for sharing.
As an old radio guy i look for covers and recordings that have the radio station on them or notes from the program director written on the timing strip.
Ahh I’ve got that upgrade bug too! I have multiple copies of must have records, the challenge is to find the time to grade them! What an amazing opportunity to curate the VOA collection, and big thank you for sharing!
Absolutely amazing collection Dillon...I had a few of them in my collection back in the day but who knows where they are now?!! Would love to have Tony joe or Jesse Ed again for sure...thanks for sharing!
Based on some of your off the cuff comments you have your fair share of trolls. Ignore them brother. You have put a lot of time and work to build your brand and I couldn’t be happier for your success.
Hey Dillon! Very cool video. I have managed to pick up some radio promos myself. The BBC were auctioning off their record archive earlier this year, I signed up for this auction but won squat as they were going for crazy prices, but I have managed to find some on eBay or in the wild. Just like the ‘voices of America’ records they have lots of catalog stickers on them but the records themselves are mint!!!! I have found some killer records and will be showing them off in my next video.
Managed to snag a couple of items from the BBC auctions. Thankfully didn’t pay through the roof for them, but like you said, covers had catalog stickers on them but the vinyl is minty. Love the history behind them and they’re always the ones I talk about because of it.
Yep, many people see those catalog stickers as having some type of value. I personally don't, but if someone would rather have them with old tape and such on the cover, then go for it.
This is great. I love seeing a good piece of that historic collection go to someone who appreciates it. *Side comment and question (if you have a moment to answer, which I realize you might not): I was admiring the wall of records behind you and wondering what you use for the shelves (the wooden strips differ from the white ones to the side so I supposed I am asking about both).
There’s a quote attributed to Thomas Jefferson: “I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” Your detractors should take a read on that quote. What you are experiencing and graciously sharing with us, is hard work paying off.
Thanks! The laymen version of that quote is “the harder I work, the luckier I get.” Which is very true. I’m honored to have the access to this collection I’ve been given, there’s an element of luck for sure!

I was able to tick off 10 of your upgrades...Ellen MacIlwain....the singer on Fear Itself...better than Joplin imho!
I had a friend who had a friend that was a dj in the 70s through the 90s He’d give my friend records all the time and take him to concerts for free. He never played the records for the most part. I got to pick his collection and got about 150 unplayed records. Many promos.
Sounds like you do the same thing I do in regards to the shrink wrap. Even on the gatefold LPs I keep it on. It's not like I haven't seen the inside gatefold of most of these albums through the years anyway. The one that's always bugged me is the Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy with the non OBI thing. You either have to cut the OBI looking thing or take the shrink wrap off to get the record out haha. Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
Amazing stuff. When I watched you digging in the records in that collection I was salivating. I hope you see this because I have a question about the channel you have that you had rips of albums on it. What is the name of it? I thought i was subscribed to it but now I cannot find it.
Very cool on the Geordie! I just got the reissue of that. I still need the second album. Any chance you found a Rhino Bucket album in that stack? The title is Get Used to It. I highly doubt it, but you never know.

You have a marvelous and informative channel and the vast, vast majority of your viewers are adoring fans. You're also going to get some snarky comments because people are genuinely jealous of your bounty - hell, I'm jealous. A truly great collection!
I bought a really janky repress of Tom Waits' "Closing Time" if you wanna trade. Mine has no tape and writing on the cover. Enticing! You can also throw in that Eric Burdon Declares War. I love that album.
If you look closely, you’ll see It’s “Quatermass” not “Quartermass” (no first R). I don’t know the significance of that but I had the record a long time before realizing that myself.
Dylan, I notice you have a copy of England on Deroy 1976 in the back ground, I have a copy myself that took me an age to track down. Have you talked about this in a video as I’d like to hear your opinion on it!?
I can’t believe I sat through this entire video waiting for you to show Billy Joe Shaver “Old Five & Dimers” with the timing strip, but got shut out. Seeing the Larry Jon Wilson, as well as a bunch of other cool records was worth it though.
You can tell the vinyl community has loud snobs when a dude this nice is getting negative comments 😂 dont even pay them no mind, its just engagement, STACK TF OUTTA THOSE GRAILS 😂
...oh man I love your channel...as a jaded ex-record shop guy it's always a pleasure to find out about stuff I ain't heard from a positive, honest guy such as yourself...um...this may sound like an odd request but is there any chance you could do a vid' reading out "a best of" the really dumbass messages you get?...your impressions of trolls makes me actually miss the "experts" that I used to not enjoy when they came in the shop!!!...regardless...keep up the good work...digdigdigdig....
Do you think it's worth trying to remove the tape from some of those covers? I'm guessing not. I have no problem with the writing, but the tape would bother me a bit.
I heard that 60s promos were pressed on polystyrene as opposed to the vinyl that was used to press commercial copies.Dj copies had to last and commercial copies had to wear out, so perhaps they would buy more. Case in point, the Bubble Puppy label. There vinyl was pretty well done after relatively few playings. So, yeah, promos are better. Am I wrong?
Like Dillon said, many early promos were just stamped.. I couldn't see them pressing on something special and just putting an ink stamp on the record with nothing else to differentiate them.
@MickSupper In the original twilight years of vinyl, many lps we're simply promo stamped in gold letters and the vinyl was no different than the commercial releases. Some people believe these were promo copies, but not in the true sense.

If you look closely, you’ll see It’s “Quatermass” not “Quartermass” (no first R). I don’t know the significance of that but I had the record a long time before realizing that myself.
Yeah I know. I just can’t help calling it that.
Btw, I'm guessing you're familiar with the album Primordial Lovers by Essra Mohawk? If not, you need to check it out. Cheers!
That misfits 7” is killing me.
"Hard to find clean" can be just as much of a grail as "hard to find," and they are not the same.
I agree!
Haha I’ll show it eventually 🤣
You can tell the vinyl community has loud snobs when a dude this nice is getting negative comments 😂 dont even pay them no mind, its just engagement, STACK TF OUTTA THOSE GRAILS 😂
😂😂😂
“Don’t wanna hear any of that.” 😂😂😂
🤣
Anymore fun Latin recommendations are welcome. I was just peeping the chaka one in middle of this video and thought it was pretty good.
It’s a great one!
Your shop’s URL isn’t secure (https) which means most browsers won’t even display the content. Easy to fix! Great video…
I’ll get on it!
I guess if several copies of each of these was sent to a record station there's a good chance many of them were never played at all. Score!
Hi Dillon I hope your thanksgiving was dope, do you shoot your own turkey lmao
Haha no, I don’t like turkey, we eat chicken here on thanksgiving
...oh man I love your channel...as a jaded ex-record shop guy it's always a pleasure to find out about stuff I ain't heard from a positive, honest guy such as yourself...um...this may sound like an odd request but is there any chance you could do a vid' reading out "a best of" the really dumbass messages you get?...your impressions of trolls makes me actually miss the "experts" that I used to not enjoy when they came in the shop!!!...regardless...keep up the good work...digdigdigdig....
Hahaha I have wanted to do a video like that! Maybe I will someday.
Dont let anybody tell you what to do with your records. At the end of the day, you paid for them and if you like them...that's all that matters.
Yep!!!!! Thanks for watching! 🙏
Do you think it's worth trying to remove the tape from some of those covers? I'm guessing not. I have no problem with the writing, but the tape would bother me a bit.
You can usually get it off pretty easily
i would love to know how much you paid for that collection….😊
I heard that 60s promos were pressed on polystyrene as opposed to the vinyl that was used to press commercial copies.Dj copies had to last and commercial copies had to wear out, so perhaps they would buy more. Case in point, the Bubble Puppy label. There vinyl was pretty well done after relatively few playings. So, yeah, promos are better. Am I wrong?
Like Dillon said, many early promos were just stamped.. I couldn't see them pressing on
something special and just putting an ink stamp on the record with nothing else to differentiate them.
@MickSupper In the original twilight years of vinyl, many lps we're simply promo stamped in gold letters and the vinyl was no different than the commercial releases. Some people believe these were promo copies, but not in the true sense.
@@kennethstickney8819 That's what I was saying, well, I was referring to earlier promos before the gold stamp.
You kept all the ones I would have kept also. Noah - Bob Seger... It was his worse one.
That must really be bad, being that his hits suck, and I cannot stand hearing them.
