      This is true. In my experience, I've found that the 5x lens minimum focus distance is about 36-40 inches (sucks!) and the phone will automatically switch to the main sensor and crop the image to emulate the 5X zoom. As long as your subject is within the 36-40 inch range, the phone will keep on switching, ruining your shots. I wish Apple would let you toggle that behavior off as they do with the Macro.

    I've noticed a BIG upgrade on these new cameras compared to the 14 pros. Im sure you can notice since you are a very good professional photographer. But finally Apple has tamed that "over-sharpened" look. Well more specifically on the 24mp mode and especially on the 48mp heif mode. Thats all i've wanted ever since the introduction of Smart HDR on iPhone XS. It's a really big deal. I also encourage you to do a night mode test on this new iPhone. From what i've seen, it can rival the Pixel easily now even though it doesn't have an astrophotography mode. BTW I still hate ProRAW since it adds noise reduction so now thats the next thing I'm waiting for Apple to improve on. They'll take another 5 years to get some more common sense. Also it's a shame that this iPhone 15 series is the most fragile iPhone they've ever made. I hate putting a case on my phones but its required on the new fragile iPhone 15

    I tried a whole bunch of Android smartphones this year hoping to find something that would make me switch back to Android, even though I am 100% in the Apple ecosystem (iPhone, Mac mini, iPad).
    The only one I found that could replace my iPhone is the Pixel 8 Pro. I didn’t encounter the same issues I usually find with Android smartphones. The voice command works perfectly (unlike other Android devices where, for some reason, I can never get the voice command to work on the Gboard keyboard). Additionally, when setting up a new phone, you can have an exact copy of your old Pixel, just like you can with a new iPhone.
    This isn’t the case with Samsung, etc., where you end up having to put all the apps back into folders yourself, reorganize everything, etc.
    In the end, I found that the photo and video quality were not as good as on the iPhone, so I kept my iPhone 15 Pro Max and returned the Pixel. However, I’m still looking forward to seeing the Pixel 9 Pro XL. I would be very happy to see Google reclaim its crown as the king of photography.
    They have the resources and talent; I don’t know what’s missing for them to achieve it.
    Having a disability, voice command allows me to write very quickly without exhausting myself, so it’s indispensable for me. Additionally, I don’t understand why, when copying data from an old Android smartphone to a new one, you don’t get an exact copy of what you had on the old one. You have to reorganize everything, redo your folders from scratch, etc. This is a basic feature, and Android is advanced enough to have this functionality. I will never understand this.

To match s23u 10x Apple has to digital zoom 5x using the 5x camera. The only things you can truly compare is the main camera. So I don’t know. It’s just weird that 1 out of ever 4-5 shots was this way. They weren’t all 1x digital zoom. It’s doing what the 1x lens does when it’s too close and switches to the ultra wide camera digital zoomed to 1x. Super annoying. Let me see it out of focus so I know to back up because you can’t even tell till the photo is taken and zoom in

    • @ShogunBai
      @ShogunBai 9 месяцев назад

      @LeeZavitz It's very unintuitive plus there is zero feedback from apples camera software until you check the photo information... super weird indeed.
      Imo, the 1x camera is and will always be the best choice no matter the pro model - ofcourse 0.5 is super fun.
      Enjoyed your photos, thank you for your video btw.

    I for the first time this week got my hands on one of the iphone 14 pro, proraw images at 48mp. IDK why but it seems like apple completely bakes the denoising into the raw dng and it looks awful. I wish these companies would stop trying to remove all visible noise from the image. Some sensor noise is not a BAD thing. Pixel seems to still keep the noise which is nice in their raws. But their jpgs and iphone's for that matter, over do the reduction.

    Hello, I have a question.
    Is it necessary to buy iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max only because Pro models can shoot ProRaw 48mp?
    IPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are very expensive, but this year regular models also have 48mp. Now my question.
    My question is about RAW, not about telephoto 5x zoom, I know on regular models there is no 5x zoom. Will you recommend buying a regular model saving money by buying a third-party pro camera app and shooting Raw pictures?

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  9 месяцев назад +2

      You can shoot raw on third party app. But it won’t be ProRaw which is what is so special about the pro model phones. ProRaw will give you similar dynamic range to a real camera where a third party app shooting raw will just give you raw data off the sensor and doesn’t look anywhere close to as good as ProRaw

    Tony Northrup tested this, resolution wise, the 15 Pro resolves around the same detail as an 8-10 megapixel camera (i.e. less then the 12 megapixel A7S III once you remove the artificial sharpening). As for the lenses, you are getting 13mm f/10, 24mm f/6.3 and 77mm f/24 (120mm f/21 on the Max) fixed aperture equivalents to full frame. Just worth bearing that in mind.
    My opinion is the ultra wide and tele lenses are very poor, borderline unusable in most situations. The wide lens being wider than the previous 26mm and at f/6.3 equivalent does leave a lot to be desired, you have to "fake" the depth of field with moderate degree of success but something is off about the images to my eye, they still look very much like from a phone and not a camera - maybe it's just me.

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  9 месяцев назад

      Once you export it as a jpg yes way smaller. File size isn’t a huge issue though. Plus you can now shoot 48mp heif which is way smaller than raw. You get the resolution just not the dynamic range for editing

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  9 месяцев назад

      Heif is like a more efficient size Jpg. Max heif (when using main camera) will let you shoot at full 48mp for a high res heif. ProRaw is a raw image file that has a lot of dynamic range to edit with in post. Like in adobe photoshop or Lightroom.

      It’s literally cropping in on the main sensor. With computational processing it can still push out 24mp image. If you think it’s not cropping in on the sensor then you fell for their marketing bs because how else would it work? There’s no physical zoom lens mechanism inside it.

    The 28, 35, and 48mm crops you get from the 48MP sensor aren't 'digital crops'. They are lossless sensor crops in 24MP, which is the new default resolution of the primary camera (in 24, 28, 35, and 48mm).
    According to File Inspector :
    x1 48MP 8064 x 6048
    x1.2 35MP 6912 x 5184
    x1.5 24MP 5712 x 4284
