enjoyed the video. good luck at TBC, the weather should be excellent (we have had some snow lately but that looks to be out of the forecast for next weekend).
Thanks! Looks like weather is lining up nice, cooler for the prologue and then mild for the road and circuit race. We have an Airbnb in the Sam Hughes area, let me know if you have any restaurant or downtime activity recommendations!
@@ChainlessTV the weather forecast here in the desert can change quickly, but given your 7:30 a.m. start for the road race I would say that will be the coolest weather you'll face. As for things to do in Tucson I would hit the Congress area just south of U of A - fun cafes, restaurants, Barrio Brewery
Man I think we could have got you up to the front on the start/finish straight if not for that crash - that section of the course was very long and it would've been easy to get you up as a team IMO. I was yelling at Brian that we were gonna pull you to the front where Matt was, but then BOOM, crash - plan ruined :'( We gonna get Mike's one of these days man!!
Any race you finish upright is a good race I reckon. Glad you dodged the dodginess. Your team was right there, doesn't take much more to be in the mix.
I would love a course like this!! Because I'm good at cornering? No. Because I am a strong punchy rider? No. Only because I've never done a technical crit before lol 🤣
Lol my first crit was technical 9 corners pretty wild I ended up finishing 8th with an hartrate of 192 bpm over an hour of racing 😅 the reason was I started structural training on hartrate and after 2 months is switched to power because I felt I was getting worse but I only had 3,5 weeks left to pull back the lost fitness from training on hartrate before the race so I kinda overcoocked with to much hours in a week working +12 hours a day 5,5 days out of 7 and training 8/9 hours a week 😅
Oh man fun times! A technical course is tough for a first race but if you know how to handle your bike reasonably well it can be nice because it is almost always going to break apart. Good luck with your training, keep us posted!
@@ChainlessTV bike handling is no problem been riding bikes since I could walk always rode dirt ramps on Bmx I just made a rookie mistake I was focusing on the last lap bell and there was no final lap bell so yeah missed out on the sprint wich sucked cuz i was 4 th wheel so good position for sprint but yeah I though it was for a money lap so let other people slip in because moving up during the round was so easy against these people it felt so easy for my first race it felt like I’ve had done it before maybe because I’ve watched hours of crit vids from NorCal cycling and other dudes I knew exactly what to do it all felt so natural even dough I was riding on my threshold hr
@@ChainlessTV If you're interested the gimbal shot was a GoPro 9 attempt (technically not compatible with 9) turned into an experiment using a super wide+rectilinear perspective that I find speed representation feels more realistic compared to a narrower fields of view blah blah blah 😅 I think it would look super cool in racing, as a matter of fact I find the onboard point of view and drones POV are revolutionising the sports experience, so thanks again for your exiting vids!
@@IsaacRC I totally agree with that perspective showing speed much better. You and Safa Brian are onto something. I just wish there was a more compact gimbal that could integrate with a chest strap. I'm sure gopro and DJI are working on something! Thanks again
@@ChainlessTV there are already compact gimbals, my gimbal brand Hohem has a chest version; take in account that these action cam gimbals are relatively weak so a full powered sprint might glitch em plus there's the weight penalty; a modern action cam electronic stabilisation can totally handle it but the issue with roadies chest mount is the torso angle varies a lot so extra field of view is needed for good stabilisation as well, i even use a tool to reframe the orientation in post but all that you can do easly with an insta 360 cam and its software although I have never used one but quality wise nothing beats a Gopro image science, the last GP 11 + the fisheye lens mod is the best quality+field of view+stabilisation there is right now although the methodology is significantly overcomplicated compared to a insta360
Great Work! Looks like a really hard course that start position and holding position in top 5 was huge. Good luck moving forward. Also, you said you wished you'd done more VO2 work. When is/does that come into play for you?-Bill
Thank you! It's definitely a tough course, everyone knows the top 5 is the place to be so it takes some energy to stay up there. Some experienced crit guys are incredibly good at it. I usually start doing some more pointed VO2 intervals at the start of February, only ~ once a week. I try to make it out to as many of these early season races as possible because they are great for adding in intensity and building, though Cherry Pie is always a shock to the system. The meat of our season is in March-May so that's when I try to be at my best. We are pretty spoiled to be able to race in January and February
Ahhh was hoping there would be an upload from you, after watching Jeff's video.
He beat me to it, his video was really good
Impressive effort just getting back onto the field on that last lap! Loved that course
Such a fun a course and ya I was toast after that effort

Agreed! I was happy to keep it up and get a really solid work out
Btw, my favorite course of the year!
You are so good on that course! Maybe don't use VoS as a warmup and you win

Cool as...
After watching Jeffs video where Mikes Bikes finished 1, 2 with a Terun rider (think) in 3rd place I was wondering if you were the rider.
No my teammate, I think we might have been able to do something had we been together but that crash threw a wrench in things
