I am a certified Specialized Retul bike fitter I first met Sam at Specialized headquarters in 2008 he taught my product class learning sales techniques it was a great class. Back then he was doing downhill mtn bike stuff. in the words of Chubbs from Happy Gilmore "I am glad you gave that shit up and concentrated on golf" lol COngrats by the way! Andy must have done one hell of a fit on you.
Top notch - NCC. Sam commentary easily welcome another time. When I see these videos I regret that I didnt go to a cycling club at 18 y.o. Back thenI could do two hours of gymnastic and 20 k cycling back and forth. I went overseas and kinda never did a workout again. Im in a couch at 36 watching youtube and dreaming about cycling. :) Even couch to crit dreaming.
Never to old man. I'm 35 and just bought my first road bike. Not planning on racing but its still a lot of fun just pushing myself everything I go riding.
Mikey H. Is legit. He's imo one of the few that could beat Legion if he had an equal caliber squad, which he does. But...The synchronization of Legion and having solid leadership is the main reason they're dominant. Dude said #xfactor hehe
What a race the intensity is insane and that guy that crashed at the end didn’t surprise me the corners were impossible which is why pretty much nobody was passing more than one rider at a time
Great vid, Sam rode well! I should post my vid of this race, showing what it takes for a normal person to survive crit Nats.. there was a crash just behind Sam on the last lap that forced a bunch of us to get gapped, boo.
Great video as per usual. Crit racing in the US is comedy. Amateur events with teams of 8 billion riders. It's fundamentally broken. Obviously, the bigger team wins. Why on Earth don't the organizers drastically restrict the team numbers? It seems ridiculous overkill at an amateur level. Pro team beats solo soccer dad... heroic.
Great video! Bring Sam back! Also, I came to know him as Quadzilla. Thunder thighs sounds pejorative... Off topic question: what's going to happen with the TMB bikes sponsor now that Specialized is divorcing Mike's Bikes?
10:50 Damn.. That guy is dangerous.. I'm sure he does training at home, as he clearly he has issues catching up the bunch and taking the wheel "naturally"...
Awesome! Love the vids and commentary. Shouts from New Zealand. One question. What kind of max speed would you go over the finish line if completely flat. I.e. Is this finish line pretty flat or a bit downhill. Thanks a lot.
European here and i little confused about the track... - was 40/50-ish km the TOTAL race length?! - with not a single climb?! ..For a national championship?? that feels like casual teenager crit races at +10kmh lol p.s. the video was fun :D
Jeff: did you peak / taper for the race? Or was it more the environmental factors so far out of your comfort zone that put paid to your aspirations? Have you done any analysis on this? Great content as always.
idk. i think the near crash was Sam's fault for putting himself in a bad position and not definitively taking a wheel. The other guy was steady on a wheel......I'd be interested in hearing others......
I don't know if there was room to squeeze the corners at all but instead of a coast followed by a 1000W kick every single lap maybe a 200W "coast" to gain a few wheels and then back up to 350W coming out of the corner and allowing others to bang out 1000W to gain positions back. That was painful to watch and probably to ride Jeff. The old do as I say not as I do.
Jeff: Consistency is efficiency
Also Jeff: Watch me do 1000 watts out of every corner
If you do 1000 watts every corner everytime then it's consistent. Sometimes we need higher consistency
I'd be interested to have Sam back in the commentary box! His insight/footage seem extremely legit. Keep up the great work Jeff!
Sam is a natural commentator. Good chemistry with Jeff on this one.

Definitely more Sam. Tolley slaughtered the guy with the arm sleeves.
What’s going to happen with the race team now mikes bikes has dropped specialized and been bought out by cervelos owners?
Intro = first Heartattack
thx for the great commentary and building knowledge as always
keep up the good work
Watched Tolley's perspective last month and that was crazy, but Sam's perspective is even crazier. Awesome job Sam!
Those barriers are terrifying.
I think you mixed up intensity factor and variability index, intensity factor is NP/Threshold, variability index is NP/AP
yes, i did
This information is awsome as a newbie trying to get into crit racing. Thank you both.
In hindsight keeping it upright and recognising the potential danger that close to the line was epic!!!
Finally a video with numbers and what looks like an organised race.
Top notch - NCC.

I was there watching. Definitely hotter than NORCAL, but it was actually relatively mild for north Florida on a June afternoon. Thanks for the vid!

More! I'm a big fan of you guys from the other side of the world in Finland.
Dang NorCal Cycling Studios is blinged out or what? Gold wall paper? 😆 Also, the Sam Cam photo is top tier.
Crazy tight race race. Looked like it was very tough to move anywhere cuz of the speed. Love the little outtake at the very end.
Thank you for that Sam and Jeff, very insightful!
What a race the intensity is insane and that guy that crashed at the end didn’t surprise me the corners were impossible which is why pretty much nobody was passing more than one rider at a time
Nice video. Can defiantly see the additional competition in these races shining from the riders

I almost died in the first 10 seconds...
Man I shit myself
yo tolley on that final straight went like a rocket
Have my first race this Saturday and this has got me PUMPED…. I need to lower my standards by then though!
I get excited every time there’s a NCC upload
So great
nit: 7:00 in you said NP/AP was Intensity Factor but it’s VI. IF is NP/FTP
I enjoy biking....and I can't fathom the speed and racing. How do people not wreck every single turn??? Amazing cyclists and videos.
There’s always a guy in a montecci doing weird stuff…
Jeff, lets get Tolley on the recaps! i'm sure it would be a fun time.
Thanks!
Everyone is risking it for the biscuit!
Watching from the Philippines!! Woop woop
Very cool. So much to learn. Thanks
Find the guy after the race and give him a Masvidal 3 piece cambo 💥
#supernecessary
That power surges jeff had was too darn high. Nonetheless keep em coming
Nice one for Sam but wheres Glen at?
You probably mean variability index, not intensity factor. Nice footage

Ooof who was that guy at 10:51 who overcooked the final corner?

Hey great video but you got confused with intensity factor and variability index
Thanks for such a cool video!
Watching from the Philippines late at night bro! Best bike racing contents!
can you make the stages discount code work for their EU site as well?
I'd love to see how these US crit racers would cope with some Dutch and Belgian club riders.
Same! The Dutch riders seem to have insane handling skills and very high sustained efforts.
I think you meant VI instead of IF
Great job guys!
10:50 rip
Chris Tolley had some interesting things to say about hand shaker in his own video, lol.
Watched this video while planking😁🥵 and I hit my newest record, 10minutes and 45 seconds 😃
Isn’t IF calculation NP/FTP?
It would be far too easy to get way over 1.00 IF if only divided by AP.
I meant VI not IF
@@NorCalCycling ahhh, that makes more sense. Love the videos mate 👌🏼

It's flat

how come i cant see the date on this youtube??

Great content as always.
Curious: he mentioned that he needed to wear gloves because of the humidity; after he finished you see his hand 🤚 no glove 🤔
Great eye! I wore them in the RR the day before and then forgot them as I wear them so infrequently… wish I had them, bar tape was drenched!
@@sambeezy11 🙌🏻😃
Amazing race
Those cheese grater barriers though....
That was great! More More!
More of these 👍🏻👍🏻 awesome riding 🔥
Why isn't Legion in this race?
What kind of bike do the guys in blue drive (blue to white fade)
Yes on Sam. My heartrate watching the video was through the roof
It’s a great day when jeff posts a video
This name seems similar @NorCal
How do your teammates help you in getting to the front?
Best Racing Entertainment
That speeddd!!!! 🥵
Get Tolley in the box!
But he’s got to G box his commentary (G rated). Cycling is for the kids too
America is the only place where roadster like this are considerd narrow. In a Dutch criterium this would be called a really wide road
Tully, cousin of Tolley XD
Variability index
9:03
As a south eastern Texan, yes everything is hot and wet
Gobble Gobble
When are we going to see San Ardo footage?
Soon
@@NorCalCycling awesome!
Damn… I hope he was ok… good info!
They should fine you for crashing on the last lap. I think it would go a long way to rider safety. This was the year of crashes for sure.
potentially destroying your bike and the hassle of insurance claims (if you even have insurance) are already enough of a fine i think
9:30 oh yeah
How many in this race?
Jeez I hope that guy who crashed was okay. It look like a gnarly accident!
Was KHS there?
is it me or are they all using 28+ich tires? why is this so?
everyone is probably in the 25-28 range. I was on 26, IMO best weight/rolling resistance/traction balance for this type of course.
Why do they put those fences right in the street on such narrow streets? That is so easy to catch somebody's handlebars.
Because Americans don't know much about cycling.
@@Freakschwimmer 😀 that you are probably most correct on
MORE SAM
Yeah Sam! Love it!
We wanna see more of u guys
Big crowd
Have you tried 100+km race?
What do you think you needed to do to be in a better position throughout the race ? Start race from the line in no less than 10th position ??
How is the corner crusher not getting protested. He pushed so many out,

Tolley is a beast!
It's insane to me how you guys survive pushing each other into the wall at 40mph while I slide out at 20mph trying to beat a wide open yellow light :(
Is this Pro/1?
Cat 1 only
Wait why can't legion race in the elite race? But they can in the pro race? I'm a beginner just trying to understand
