Also a bit personal but what are ur ecs and major?
Majority of the time there is no certificate for these activities except for sports and organizations like Nss and Ncc.
No one asks for certificates unless they doubt your explanation of the activity, even if you get a teacher to sign on a piece of paper that this student did this that activity- that's more than enough proof

the fact is not everyone have the opportunity . here most courses are for something like coaching or any other academic . ECs are very less in our area except for football and karate . and the fact its oversaturated and don't have no scope and value abroad
Great advice! I’m a junior in high school, and I’m currently trying to secure and organize my top 3 extracurriculars. My narrative/spike aims itself around visual arts, as well as promoting the representation and importance of handicapped individuals. My planned Ecs are as follows:
1. Founder of a Nonprofit to help support and spread awareness of the special needs in our society through various activities (sports, arts, academics, etc…)
2. Authored, illustrated, and published a children’s book themed around handicapped acceptance and awareness
3. Passion project research on how visual arts can serve as a means of effective communication for those who have difficulties speaking and disorders in which prohibit traditional speech.
I have a few other high ranking ecs, but these are the ones I have the most progress on. I just wanted to ask if Im on the right track, and if I continue developing my ecs, will they have a chance of being competitive when applying to high ranking schools, or should I maybe focus on doing something else to further expand the depth and range of my application while I still have time? I apologize for the length of this message, but I was really curious to see a another person’s opinion. 🙂
these are some fantastic ECs, i think you got the community and passion project perfect! if there is anything you can probably spend time on would be academic based ECs more inclined towards your major otherwise you are on a great track!

@@sostoopid WOW! Thank you so much for that kind reply. I genuinely smiled reading that. It’s been a while since I’ve read what I posted, so I think it would wise to update what I’ve done. When I posted that comment, I had honestly just started working on my ecs. Before February 2023, I quite honestly had nothing. Half way through my junior year was the turning point. 6 months later, and I have succeeded in my nonprofit. Our first major event is tomorrow, and we’ve been able to raise roughly $2000 so far! It’s truly my main overarching ec. I actually never took up that researching opportunity, so I hope that won’t be too much of a negative 😅. But I did replace it with some other really meaningful ecs that I believe make the most sense with what I want to aim for in the future. Everything that im doing is with the intent of bettering the special needs social sphere, as it’s something that I find not only interesting, but also deeply connected to. Anyhow, I just wanted to say thank you!! What you said truly meant a lot. 😁😁

I am from India and in our schools only grades matter no activities no clubs nothing and even internship isn't possible i learned swimming and drawing till class 7 but no way to prove it tho only grades matter here and now i am currently studying 11 how am i supposed to even learn new skills or even do community work.. I want to join IVY leagues but ig it's too late
you'll probably need to do courses outside of your school..for eg I went to sports championship from taekwondo classes I took outside the school and they usually give certificates and medals..maybe participate in NGOs to get society based certificates
Nahh just participate in Athletics meet etc there are plenty in india. Also try some courses on coursera on whatever you wanna pursue it will make your CV better
Sorry this might be late, I'm from India and I got into a UAL, a really good uni with highest scholarship.
I recommend you to get into as many Olympiad and competitions of all kinds of all subjects just for the sake of certificates of participation. Online courses for certificates again, like I did a Google UX-UI course using financial aid which cost nothing but this was valued very much in my course.
You should look for community service or joining such clubs. Maybe just do donation or go to old age home... take pictures and write about in CV. Or just look online for campaigns. My mom was part of rotary, so i joined the rotaract(12-18yrs) for taking part in campaigns.
Only the top clgs give you all the activites
It's never too late you can take a gap year and start working on ur ECs from now on Don't be discovered I'm litr on the same page as you are

For community based projects, let’s say someone decided to teach something and someone else decided to teach something else, but one of them started it as a business of sort and charged some money while the other did it completely free, is there a difference in how important that becomes? What do you recommend?
I don't think there is any difference even if you charge money the colleges just want to see whether you care about your community or not.
I write poems as i am passionate about writing, my poems can be published at 9-10th grade school level books. Can this be count as an extracurricular activity?.
Of course! If it is anywhere related to major it’s definitely an activity!

This is really sad. You should be doing these out of pure passion and the pursuit of knowledge, instead of just doing it for the sake of a portfolio.
I am in grade 12 right now and planning to apply for fall 2024 to study astrophysics in the US. My only extracurricular worth saying is about me clicking pictures of the planets, the moon and other deep space stuff with my telescope from my terrace here in Delhi. Do you think it is a great extracurricular if I present it well enough?

i would keep it in ECs, paper publish is pretty common but if your paper did win an award in a competition setting against other people - then you can add it into the honors as well.

@@lestath2345 if the club/organization you started got big or had an impact on the people around you, like the students in your school or even just normal people in your neighborhood then it sure would get their attention.
@@lestath2345 of course it would. However, I would suggest do an activity that is related to what you wanna major in. You wanna reflect your ambitions through your activities. Though, the chess one is a good thing as it displays your leadership but it isn’t worth much if it isn’t related to your major. You can do it! Try to find roles that are related to your major.

you find resources or similar-minded people who are currently either doing those activities or want to do it! start small in your local universities and then start exploring internships!

Another problem is many of these activities do not give proper certificate, so how can we show our participation in these foreign universities.
You don't need any certificate to prove colleges that you have done this particular extracurricular. Everything is okay until you don't lie about your activities.

if you did a real project or even started working about an innovative idea you had in the STEM field then yes, it's considered a research based activity. Research based projects can even be done in other fields like commerce, economics and many more.

If you attempt jee advanced and get a good rank then you could add that in your application, but simply stating the number of hours you dedicated to it does not show how good you are.

I think she went to Cornell. There are better schools than Ivy Leagues though, such as MIT or Stanford. And it might be easier to apply to top public schools which are just as good or way better than some Ivys like the top UC’s.

Top schools in the U.S. would love to see your commitment more than your number of activities. Even if you do 1-5 activities but for many years e.g.3 years, 4 years, 5years etc.
