Watching this video honestly gives me a lot more confidence than I had while starting it. I kept comparing my profile to the ones described in the video and as I felt it leaning more and more towards the elitist profile I found myself feeling more and more relieved. I really really wish that you posted this video a year earlier. It would’ve been so helpful. I got rejected by 3 Ivies and waitlisted by 2 and no acceptance. And a lot of other colleges I applied waitlisted me. After watching you, it just hit me like some part of my resume is average profile and while another part is elite profile.

I am from USA, but I originally moved from Bangladesh during my middle school. Honestly, I was not expecting that I would know this much information in such a short video! I'm a brazilian high school student preparing myself to get into a ivy league college, a very big chalenge, expecialy because the way that the aplications happens here in Brazil is totally diferent of the USA way to analise a profile.

can you make a vidoe abt how should the common app application look for someone who is applying after a gap year?
Discuss the parts where gap year students should focus on more, tell what is different in their application from the "non-gap year" applicants and tell the way the admission comittee assesses such kind of applications etc.
I think that this is a demanding topic with a lot of unanswered questions. I rarely see common app guides for the "gap year students", despite the fact that almost 30%+ of high school graduates take a gap year

This is very helpful. I am in 7th grade but I still am Interested in learning about collages and being prepared. I would love to get into an Ivy league school as it would give me ample opportunity to learn about my chosen field to study. Ivy league schools provide a rigorous academic course. In addition, many jobs would take me more seriously when looking at my resume. This was very Informative. Thank You!!!!!!!!!!

My school has GT/AA which is Gifted and Talented / Advanced Academics. It's right in between honors and AP and gives the same gpa boost as AP but you don't take the AP test.

as i said in the video, after grades all that matters is how you present your profile, and how much you spend on doing extracurricular activities to stand out!
Two questions: Does it make my statement stronger mention more than on faculty member/lab in the essay? In the sample you showcase in the video 10:50 you invest the connection to the program in only one professor, why this?

yup portfolio will make an impact, but you do need to show a hollistic profile (are those films being used for a societal impact)

mostly for undergraduate, as colleges tend to look at activities outside of school a lot! For graduate in general other than having a wholesome profile- a lot of focus is shed on academic projects!

I saw your question and wanted to share what I've heard :) GPA and academic scores/ tests are very important, but if you feel that they aren't as strong, you can always work to strengthen your extracurriculars and outside activities. It always helps if you can demonstrate leadership, etc., in your ECs
How do we proof them that we've volunteered, cause we don't get any certificate for social work.... Selling my old books and stuff.

In my 9th and 10th grade due to covid restrictions I was not able to do any extracurriculars, but in my 11th grade I'll be starting a finance website where I'll post article about finance industry and a monthly magazine. I'll be choosing a finance major for my undergrad, my grades are decent about 90 %. Can I still make to some top universities of USA?

I can't answer this with 100% certainty as you can guess from the video, it really depends on how you present your profile in the best way possible, but yes grades and the website idea sounds great!

AP is not difficult, if anything it's more of knowing how to take the TEST like the ACT. You need to know the material, but knowing the exam is gonna bost your score a lot more than material knowledge.

What if my grades in my eralier years like grade 9 and 10 were like 70-80, and now my grades are all 95% except for IB english which is a 91. Will elite unis send me away after a glance at my gpa or will they take in the bigger picture and see how i've improved
Honestly I think I have an excellent profile for an ivy but I haven't really taken any exams like toelfs or ielts, and highly doubt I will cause I have no money for them, so I guess I´ll always wonder what could have been if I had applied

There is no one board better than the other, all are treated equal - IB is preferred one because students are motivated to go for AP exams!

i think you are confusing extra curricular with honor/achievements, but yes national international have a bigger impact for sure, you can still add others to low impact activities as you need a total of 10

3.depends on the school but last time I checked the ivs mit and Standford don't take those into account

International student here, I heard from a teacher that the ACT or the SAT would not be necessary for an application for international students such as myself. Is this true or should I take it anyways?
Also for AP exams. should i take ap exams as a student in japan without those courses? there are programs that just allow me to take the test
If english was your medium of instruction for at least 2 years then you no need to take it, but it may help boost your profile, Ultimately it is your choice. Good luck on your journey!

Hello! I just finished my sophomore year of high school, but I am an international student who takes in the British curriculum, so I don’t take any APs or any SAT/ACT exams instead, I take IGCSE and in my junior and senior years I will take the A levels. Now that the introduction is out of the way, here’s my question: Do Ivy League universities accept those board exams?
Yes they do I'm from the British system and moved to the American they accept both igcse and Levels but Aleves is the most significant in the app
