PSAT then SAT then the GRE twice. Hated all of them. Still never had any academic issues and got through to my masters with a 3.6+ Standardized tests are not always great indicators then again my degree was in psychology which is much more heavily research and writing based as opposed to exams.
Yep, it gets more and more competitive. You think you are top dog in high school, wait till you get into top college. You think are top college student, wait until med school. Think you are top student in med school, wait until residency. Think you are top resident, wait until fellowship, etc... The exams are never-ending. It don't mean nothing even if you get top 1% percentile in your USMLEs (basically near flawless exam). Been there done that. Its all about how you live your life and how you treat others, thats whats most important.
its so nice that as someone who gets good grades from working hard and isnt actually super smart that SAT and ACT are not required at so many great colleges
My maternal grandfather got a full scholarship to Yale & my paternal grandfather got a full scholarship to Oxford. Both have been deceased for many years, but that always amazed me.
0:48 !!! wow, it's super cool to see someone at Yale from where i live !! im originally from virginia, but have lived in maryland the longest. it's so refreshing because you barely ever hear about anyone from maryland LOL
I had a 3.2 average in high school, mainly due to boredom. My ACT score was 35. Never bothered to apply to Yale, but wish they would understand that GPA doesn't tell the whole story. If your test scores are high, that's more telling. I'm also shocked how very few extracurriculers they had.
I totally get what you mean; but my mentor is a retired college admissions officer and I asked him this same thing once before, he told me that its more telling what your entire high school career is rather than just one test. If you don’t try for 4 years but do for one test that’s not what most colleges want in students, they want people who can reliably stay structured long term not just abruptly. Its more telling on your work ethic rather than just testing intelligence.
When it comes to the SAT and ACT I will never understand how people can do standardized testing and score that high and be that good and just be that good at school but still granted I go to Penn State and my SAT was a 940, yea idk how either
Mine was 840, but I didn’t study. I am an slow student when it comes to testing, I always be the last. The SAT is the opposite of me. I just get to do like 20 questions and randomly mark the others because of time. Just if I could remember every lesson I took through out math considering I am an (A) math student. Khan Academy just doesn’t work for me. Is like they give you: (583-865)/9cos-(788-993) and as an explanation vídeo: 1+1=2 And then I be like: damn I remember I did all this and broke it with As, but I can’t remember how to do it. For reading section, I have always had an slow understanding when reading, and yea you just have to read to get better, but I am a mess when it comes to reading Hmmm. what if I secuestrate my math teacher
i don't have an interest for yale, but this got recommended to me for some reason. Probably bc the vibe with these people is SOO GIVING... like i need all yall in the college im applying to
I live in Canada and I thought this video was really interesting. However, I think the SAT scores are pretty pointless, for us (depends on the province i think), to get into a really good university you needed above a certain average + at least 70% or over in English. I should have applied to American universities just to see which ones I could get in xD.
I also live in Canada, I’m from Toronto, for most universities u need a 80% and above for the programs u want to get in, the rest I have no idea and for some colleges maybe all u need basically 65% and above in English to get in
I wanna get a full ride academic scholarship to NYU. This makes me feel like getting no sleep my AP classes and all these electives in AP Psyc and Criminal Justice. I just wanna study forensic psychology so bad. Hopefully all this pays off.
Ayyy I did track as well. I did 1500M, cross country, 800M, 200M, 4x4 relays and 4x1 relays also long jump and 100M Dash. I was in Key Club as membership chair, A class monitor, Student mentor, Debate club, chess club, Spanish club, business club and let's just say I helped in other clubs as well as cheerleading and I was in all sciences and advanced classes.
Your video just popped up in my feed, even though I have no affiliation/relation to Yale. Congrats, I think this is your first super-viral video 😃 Original idea and super-nicely cut. Keep going!
You could simply have a bad study method..i see it in many of my classmates. The most common methods people do that are really ineffective include rereading and highlighting. Also, creating flashcards where you simply “fill in the blanks” is very ineffective. You must test your recalling, not your recognition.
@@alicia-hd2cs That’s not my problem, I have a good two learning disabilities and tests are a very neurotypical thing. But I do get A’s on test. Mostly my math tests, or like science tests. It’s just history I’m bad at, since I have problems reading and comprehending. I’m still in AP though, idk why.
though not applying to ivy league universities, im making sure my ma not seeing this my self-esteem dripped the heckk still just amazing video and exposes much of my weak academic abilities >
But seriously I absolutely love all of these vlogs!! If any of these super smart people wanna drop a hint on how to get into internships lmk /j 🤣 Honestly I live for ur videos though!! I can't wait for the next upload!
I go to school in canada and the SAT is crazy for me and confuses me!! In my province (because it varies by province), getting to college is not too hard and our top university is the university of alberta, and to get to a program, you just had to get a gpa of like 85% (at least back in 2014 when i got in. I think it's like 90% now) above in like 5 subjects, no interview or essay. So these kids are actually pretty amazing with their extra curricular. Extra curriculars don't determine whether you get in to college or not, but more so your grade. I don't know if it exists in america, but if you don't do too well in high school, there's this thing called academic upgrading which you can go to as long as you're under 19, which basically erases most of your high school grades if it wasn't good enough. I can't imagine the stress high school students must face during this time, with balancing studies and extra curriculars. Sometimes i feel like a fraud seeing students like this
@@nicolesawyer7117 it’s quite possible it is less of a factor for some fields; I am in the tech industry (front-end development specifically) so probably even more so.

I am literally in love with the girl who said "dual identity" shes so... charismatic and just omg i wanna be her friend so bad
Yeaaaaayyyyyy girl from Kazakhstan! Gauhar! So glad and proud to see our ppl in Yale!
8:47 “cuz I’m skinny 💅✨💁♀️ ”
I couldn’t stop laughing at his comment, I love his personality lol
ooo this is so interesting to watch! i’m loving all of your yale content Aimee 🥰
aw thanks sophie!!
I had a 4 gpa in high school and college but my sat score was only 1100… the time limit and big tests overwhelm me
I feel the same. My grades are great, but even taking the psat the second time only got me a 1100 something!
I'm not good at doing standardized tests
im going thru the same problem rn. i scored a 1120 and then I took a practice test today and scored 1090. I'm just studying everyday so i can improve
Other teenagers: top GPA and SAT or ACT, amazing extracurricular's, working hard
Me: wake up at 11 am, watching RUclips videos during zoom class
You have failed your Asian heritage
Lmao
This was an awesome video, love how humble these people are about their success. I'd love to see more.
I WANT A PART 2!!! Also amazing vid!
thank u and yes!!
I had a 3.2 average in high school, mainly due to boredom. My ACT score was 35. Never bothered to apply to Yale, but wish they would understand that GPA doesn't tell the whole story. If your test scores are high, that's more telling. I'm also shocked how very few extracurriculers they had.
Most would argue the exact reverse. Test scores tell less about you than GPA
@@OrangeJuice984 Not when you have teachers/instructors/professors who put in minimum effort.
@@OrangeJuice984
I don’t trust the GPA system as there are no standards.
@@OrangeJuice984 Both GPA and Test scores tell relatively little about you. That's why it's important to write a good application essay.
Its more telling on your work ethic rather than just testing intelligence.
thanks for the video! one of the girls actually went to my school last year haha so it’s great hearing her advice
thank u and no way that’s so cool!!
I love how they say their grade points to two decimal places followed by they really can’t remember.
Yo the student from Kenya I'm so proud 🇰🇪🇰🇪
Wow! It’s so cool to hear about the guy who lived in Champaign, Illinois since I live 30 minutes away!
no way that’s cool!!
you are so kind!! you are loved, beautiful soul
As an Ivorian it feels nice that that one guy came to my country!💗
When it comes to the SAT and ACT I will never understand how people can do standardized testing and score that high and be that good and just be that good at school but still granted I go to Penn State and my SAT was a 940, yea idk how either
do you go to the college park campus?
would you mind explaining your essay topic, extra curriculars, etc?
Mine was 840, but I didn’t study. I am an slow student when it comes to testing, I always be the last. The SAT is the opposite of me. I just get to do like 20 questions and randomly mark the others because of time. Just if I could remember every lesson I took through out math considering I am an (A) math student. Khan Academy just doesn’t work for me. Is like they give you:
(583-865)/9cos-(788-993)
and as an explanation vídeo:
1+1=2
And then I be like: damn I remember I did all this and broke it with As, but I can’t remember how to do it.
For reading section, I have always had an slow understanding when reading, and yea you just have to read to get better, but I am a mess when it comes to reading
Hmmm. what if I secuestrate my math teacher
Honestly some people are just better at test taking. I had a 1.9 GPA in HS (never did my HW) but I got 1480 on SAT lol.
@@Tounguepunchfartbox how is that possible, I have a 3.5😅
I’m so excited to go to Yale next year, I’m literally consuming your videos JAJA
omg thank u!!💕
me as an international with almost no extracurriculars watching this - kinda sobbing rn :( ...great video by the way u seem so kind and genuine!!
i’m sure ur ec’s are great and thank u🥰
i felt that
It’s ok, I’m sure them or Harvard will get u in just to be a stat on their racial diverse program.
@@imnotagamer22 hope so, thanks!
The girl that told us not to stress over the sat scores definitely got 1600
this is both entertaining and hilarious cause of the edits and stuff
Such amazing original content!
@@aimeecatherine 💀💀💀
Lies again? GSA GST
with extracurriculars it definitely seems more about quality than quantity
yes for sure!
Wow Yale is beautiful. Going to plan to visit this school to check out the architectures.
Aimee : Love this video! Make a part 2!
thank u!
i don't have an interest for yale, but this got recommended to me for some reason.
In the US, most colleges are starting to drop the SAT or ACT from consideration in admissions
i’m in the uk and i didn’t understand any of the scores bc we have a COMPLETELY different education system
@@groque1654 sup bro!
@@wais_45 just passing through all these uni videos but the algorithms a bit late
I also live in Canada, I’m from Toronto, for most universities u need a 80% and above for the programs u want to get in, the rest I have no idea and for some colleges maybe all u need basically 65% and above in English to get in
WHAAAAT!! I did not expect someone to be from Kazakhstan. Congrats on getting in 🎉
That's so inspiring for my preparation in high school thx so much!!!!
this was definitely my 13th reason. thank you!
Oh it’s so cool to see Kazakh students at Yale. Salem Goha
yes she’s the best!!
Salem!
“I’m good at track and field which is where you run” I never would have guessed.
I think the best part of the video was the guy who was standing in the cold with nothing but shorts and a long sleeve shirt.
hahah TRU what a legend
honestly could not agree more
@@zacharydonnini5473 ZACH. im dead
my confidence level skyrocketed once i found out their GPA's 😌

I wanna get a full ride academic scholarship to NYU. This makes me feel like getting no sleep my AP classes and all these electives in AP Psyc and Criminal Justice. I just wanna study forensic psychology so bad. Hopefully all this pays off.
you got this!
@@melunz8138 Thanks so much ^^
hey lol
how're you donig now?
Ayyy I did track as well. I did 1500M, cross country, 800M, 200M, 4x4 relays and 4x1 relays also long jump and 100M Dash. I was in Key Club as membership chair, A class monitor, Student mentor, Debate club, chess club, Spanish club, business club and let's just say I helped in other clubs as well as cheerleading and I was in all sciences and advanced classes.
Your video just popped up in my feed, even though I have no affiliation/relation to Yale. Congrats, I think this is your first super-viral video 😃 Original idea and super-nicely cut. Keep going!
aw thank u!!
When you graduated from college over 5 years and still watch college videos...
wow I live in champaign il and wasn't expecting to hear it
that's so cool haha
champaign il is the greatest place in the world
I am very glad that I met at least one person from our region! Hello Kazakhstan-Almaty👋🏻 🇰🇿🇰🇿🇰🇿🇰🇿🇰🇿
+++++
I wonder what it feels like to actually be smart, and when you get test scores back, see that they aren’t bad, and are actually kinda good…
You could simply have a bad study method..i see it in many of my classmates.
Being smart =/= doing well on tests. All doing well on tests means is that you can take tests well. Sure there is a correlation, but it's not 1 to 1.
The one that said Kenya, lots of love💕🇰🇪
though not applying to ivy league universities, im making sure my ma not seeing this my self-esteem dripped the heckk still just amazing video and exposes much of my weak academic abilities >

Honestly I live for ur videos though!! I can't wait for the next upload!
thank u so much u are so sweet!!
Sometimes i feel like a fraud seeing students like this
I want a followup five years after their degree to see how many of the people are truly excellent vs those that were just academically excellent.
They were all excellent. You can't get into Yale purely based on outstanding academic excellence
Since graduating and entering the workforce in 2015, I’ve learned that many employers do not give a damn where your degree is from.
Many employers do
Did you go to an Ivy League school?
@@nicolesawyer7117 no, because it’s not necessary.
@@slashnagy6 hmm I wonder if that is with all jobs or just the field you are in.
@@nicolesawyer7117 it’s quite possible it is less of a factor for some fields; I am in the tech industry (front-end development specifically) so probably even more so.
Made me think of Gilmore Girls when they said every student applying has the same GPA and perfect test scores I liked that it wasn’t the case everyone’s story is different
I'm watching this video during my 2nd semester of college and it makes me feel bad about myself. I go to a state university and I feel like I should have aimed higher with my ambitions
You’re doing so much better than me though. I graduated with a 2.3 gpa and took 2 1/2 years off after high school to do absolutely nothing. I’m just now in my first semester of community college! Don’t be so hard on yourself.
You're saving a lot of money and the end result can be the same. Just do your best at your university.
As a graduate student I would say that this would be WILDLY different if done in the different graduate schools 😂
the guy from kenya talks so fancy i love it

Oh my god, this was not the best choice of video to watch while waiting on my acceptance decision lmao. It was a great video!!
