Handy being POE as some houses are now rigged with cat5e/6 these days a you won't need to run any more cabling. Or at a push you could use you could dril a hole through a wall nearest to a plug socket and use the power line adapters which do POE.
Good idea Zed to come in next to the socket and take the power from there. It can be difficult running cable but we struck lucky on that house as there was an old gravity heating system all defunct with massive 1 1/2 inch pipes running from cellar to the loft inside generous boxing. So mostly it was up over and straight down. Some times you need a bit of a lucky break to make up for all those nightmare jobs.
One article I read about my new 4-camera Foscam system, very similar to this one states that the PoE is *not* wired as per normal specs, so if you home is wired with CAT5 for phones, this system won't be compatible, even though the manual claims compatibility. Obviously, if you're just plugging a CAT5 cable between the NVR, with no other connections, that doesn't matter.
Randy V . There are two ways of wiring Cat 5 so you need to know it is the same as their configuration. We put our own plugs on because we didn't want to drill big holes.
How do you ground a outdoor cctv camera? Please show pictures, I've heard of it but never seen someone ground a outdoor security camera. I'm starting to think it is not worth it.
awesome video.. i was wondering if I can replace one 720p camera with a Foscam FI9900EP 1080p and view it on full HD and record it at 1080p ? thank you in advance
Hi Jack. The first thing to check is that your router is has 'port forwarding' enabled and is pointing to your NVR, give this a try and let us know how you get on.
You can trigger any kind of warning device you like but you have to make sure you don't pick up every stray cat etc. The NVR gives you connections for 8 cameras so that it the limit.
Hi Erick. This system doesn't support an external siren, but it does have an alarm within the NVR which can be triggered by motion detection and loss of signal/camera. If you need more than 8 cameras, something like the Hikvision 16 Channel NVR (16NVRHK12TB) would be an option to consider, although it doesn't come with cameras as standard.
Thanks Erik, we're glad you like the video. There is a very short delay when viewing live images through the app, I'd take a guess at half a second, it doesn't look any different to the CCTV monitor, so very good performance.
I would check your port forwarding settings in your router's configuration. There needs to be an entry for your NVR. In our setup, we had port range as 443 and protocol set to TCP&UDP and the IP number of the NVR which can be found in > Menu > Settings > Network
Watch out for the Foscam dome cameras that record to SD cards. All the literature says you can access it fully from the phone app but you cannot. I wasted a lot of time trying to get 3 working properly including over an hour with their technical. I prefer HIKvision myself.
The system uses IP cameras only. We have contacted Foscam to see if it's compatible with other IP cameras, we'll let you know what they come back with.
OK, this is what Foscam came back with: "Our NVR model FN3108XE is only compatible with our other HD Foscam camera if you are trying to use other camera other than Foscam it will not work as other camera are not compatible."
Foscam isn't telling the whole truth there. I have connected 3rd party ip cameras to this system. Onvif compatible cameras like HIK Vision and (generic Chinese) Net Surveillance. I have even used older Foscam wireless ip bullet cameras ( low res, but they work). You can even use non-poe ip cameras that are connected to your existing LAN. The only issue that I have run into is that the motion alerting doesn't work on some ot the 3rd party cameras. I have my set to record all the time anyway.
that's great info, thanks. After buying multiple (cheap chinese) brands, which sometimes but certainly not always work wonderfully by the way, I ended up buying only Foscam, because they do work great and reliably! (although just last month one of my older PTZ cams died... but this summer it was in the hot sun behind a window all the time so I don't discredit it). So the fact that I can use my older Foscams in this system saves me money.
CAN I ACCESS MY CAMERAS FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY ? I WILL BE GOING ON VACATION AND I WANT TO KNOW IF I WOULD BE ABLE TO WATCH ON MY PHONE OR LAPTOP IN REAL TIME WHATS GOING ON AT MY HOUSE ? THNAKS
Depends what you mean by high definition. The box is clearly labelled 720P, which means 720 vertical lines scanned progressively -- that is, one after the other. True UK high definition has rather better resolution, with 1,080 vertical scan lines but is interlaced - every other line scanned, then the missing ones done. A progressive scan is better for fast action and probably more suited to a security application. Also with a lower resolution these cameras shown may have bigger pixels (picture elements), making them more sensitive in low light, quite important in a security application. Rather depends on what the customer really needs and what their budget is! High resolution daytime or slightly lower resolution but good night vision? Or both? Which starts getting expensive, especially with eight cameras. UHD is something else, four times the resolution and a progressive scan. Not so good in low light though. Now, I should have muddied the waters completly! Bob.
Hi Robert. When high definition first arrived, 1280 X 720 (720p) was classed as 'HD' and 1920 X 1080 classed as 'full HD'. Picture resolution is often the headline feature with all kinds of video equipment, but as you know, it means nothing if your video is heavily compressed or poorly encoded. Although the cameras in this system are 720p, the interface display is 1920 X 1080 and looks really nice. We'd like to try one of the UHD systems, it'd be interesting to see how much storage space is needed for recording 8 streams of 3840 X 2160, that's 30720 X 17280 in total!
Skill Builder yes.. the cable from the camera also need to be hidden away. Burglars will follow the camera cable to locate the cctv hard drive, thats why some homeowners prefers wireless cctv camera. Even if the camera is destroyed, the recorded footage is safe and nowhere to be found

VERY complete video , thanks!
Thanks MR.S7!
Mine still works after 3 years
does this work with third-party (Non foscam) IP cameras?
can we setup using foscam app?
can you help me what do i do when the foscam is lockedand i forgot the password becase now i cant do anything

Thanks Michael. I'm told the system will accept other IP cameras but recording at 1080p isn't possible.
When am trying to connect the nvr device to my iPhone it shows connection time out I don't know why ???
Hi Jack. The first thing to check is that your router is has 'port forwarding' enabled and is pointing to your NVR, give this a try and let us know how you get on.
get an android
how do i factory reset the camera box
Hi Skill Builder. Can you add a siren to this NVR? can you also add extra cameras to it? Thanks.

Have set the cctv up with no problem, but I cant get the App or the web interface to recognise my NVR, what am I doing wrong ?

How do you set it to send alarms to the App? It seems to only allow emails to be sent. (I have iphone version of App)
You're right, it looks like they've missed a good feature there. We'll suggest the feature to Foscam.
Watch out for the Foscam dome cameras that record to SD cards. All the literature says you can access it fully from the phone app but you cannot. I wasted a lot of time trying to get 3 working properly including over an hour with their technical. I prefer HIKvision myself.
Thanks Dave. We will check that one out. Good to get user feedback.
are this IP CAMERAS? can i add some foscam ip cameras i already have. to the system

As long as you have a decent internet connection, you'll be able to connect to your system.

the megadrive was marketed as high definition too
North or South Circular?
I have just worked out that you mean the road outside the house. North.
Rodger the pie fingerer
1080hp is poor , why not cut the US plug off and put on a uk plug?
should hide the main cctv processing unit so that when burglars breached into your house, they will not able to find the harddrive and destroy it.
Good tip. We will come up with a nice way of hiding it but won't tell anyone what that is.
Skill Builder yes.. the cable from the camera also need to be hidden away. Burglars will follow the camera cable to locate the cctv hard drive, thats why some homeowners prefers wireless cctv camera. Even if the camera is destroyed, the recorded footage is safe and nowhere to be found
