    That is amazing Roger - plumbing goes hi tech and away with all the tubes of sealant and funny shaped spanners needed to fit stuff. Progress in better bogs is the sign of a civilised society!

    Im fitting one of these. I wanted to use wedi foam backer then then tile with small 6x24cm tiles. Could the toilet compress the foam board and cause tile to crack?

    The basin fitting looks great. What length are the tap tails? I'm assuming they're not 300mm as they'll be too long.

    I don't worry about the pan studs being able to take the weight more the porcelain taking such strain without cracking. Bought one of these (not this brand) 6 years ago and still haven't got round to installing it.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  6 лет назад

      VT I don't know about your make of pan but the one used here has a safe working load of twice the weight of a fat person and I have never had any problems. Like you I looked at them when they first came out and thought they would crack but they wouldn't still be fitted if they were causing problems. You need to buy a good one and no metal must touch the porcelain.

    Congratulations on another excellent production Roger, as an avid DIYer who's in the process of renewing both bathrooms I can't help but think that the abacus system looks very expensive as someone who may only buy 2 systems I'm thinking of all those extra fittings That will be wasted! I guess there's always eBay, having said that its "British" So Abacus here I come "Great Work, Well Done!"

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  8 лет назад +2

      Thanks Audistud
      The Abacus system, even with the bits you don't use is cheaper. I share your reservation about the waste of throwing good kit in the bin but offset that against driving around looking for bits. I have done far too much of that in my life. Don't be mislead by the list price, most merchants will give you a discount if you look scruffy enough and have a tattoo.

    Awesome video as usual. Looking to renovate my poorly built bathroom (2m x 2m), was built in 1993 I think, there's room for an extension as well in the future, how easy is it to renovate my current bathroom with abacus elements / wall mounted toilet etc and then extend in the future? Is it a case of unscrewing the bracket and moving it further back? Granted there's no guarantee I'll be able to source the wall / floor tiles but that's not the end of the world. Look forward to your reply, thanks again Roger! Keep up the good work

    Hello ill try asking the same question here in case you answer on behalf of abacus. In your other video you claim the No more leak kit for installing wobbly.bath video, comes with blue sealant paste, also a brush and you even give a link to abacus to purchase this kit.
    Thing is i have contacted abacus and they say it does not have a blue sealant paste. Are we.missing something??

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  4 года назад

      Hi Chris
      The shelf is veneered MDF moisture resistant and it comes from Abacus. I am afraid I will have to decline your bathroom offer. We are booked up for a long time now with major building projects.

      Viegga trap

    • @krisfairhurst7585
      @krisfairhurst7585 3 года назад

      I have a black bottle trap that will be on show. Should my trap have come with a rubber bung to go into the waste in the wall? I don’t have one and obviously won’t be able to do up a compression after it’s all boarded and tiled and don’t really like the push for waste fittings.
      Thanks

    Hi roger what board did you use to board the toilet frame and how do you secure it to the metal frame

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  4 года назад +1

      The board is Elements board from Abacus. www.rubberduckbathrooms.co.uk/abacus-elements-tile-backer-boards I fix it to the timber studs on either side of the frame. You can run a bit of adhesive across the frame to hold the board but the WC will do that anyway.

    I have a problem with locating a stud behind the tiles in order form me to mount a wall mounted sink.....

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  7 лет назад

      This is a common problem. If you know where the basin needs to go then you can often find the studs with a very strong earth magnet. It will detect the screws holding the plaster board on. Some ultra sonic devices work but they are hit and miss

    Don't like em can't tell if their is any leak after install on soil and flush

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  7 лет назад

      I have some sympathy with your view. I have struggled to fix leaks on oval pan outlets and badly fitting flush cones and I would say that you have to pick your products with care. Some of the sanitary ware coming out of Turkey is very cheap and there is no such thing as a reject in those factories.
      That said I have never had any trouble with this kit but I always floor tile up to the wall so if there ever were any trouble I would know about it.

    What about using a SinkFix plate?

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  6 лет назад

      Good idea a basin mounting plate is useful if you have something solid to go onto. A bit of plywood for example.

    • @platinumpie561
      @platinumpie561 6 лет назад

      Its designed to go onto a brick/block wall or plasterboard wall. Easier to locate a stud (plasterboard wall) for wall hung basin or just good plasterboard fixings if using a full pedestal. Then tile around plate afterwards. Adjustable bolts fit majority of basins on the market and can be readjusted afterwards when replacing old basin for new.

      sorry Tim. There was a technical problem with the encoding of the video, it wasn't playing properly so we had to take it down and then re publish. I know we will piss off 2,000 viewers who have seen it but we just couldn't find a work around. We need to try and avoid these problems in the future.

    Should anything break well inside a concealed cistern well you are fubar.
    This is German made and as everyone knows
    They are built to last.
    big hands may also be a problem.
    Blockages and leaking seals concealed may cause more damage.
    I do like them though,as much as internal soil pipes.
    Look great until it goes wrong.
    It's German made in czech republic.
    I'm old ,please forgive me.
