    After being given a ‘99 SantaFe and never owning a pop up before, I find myself on this channel very often! It’s been extremely helpful with diagnosing the few problems that are very evident on this camper. The entire ABS roof needs to be removed and re-covered. Some of the foam on one corner of the roof has come off where the latch is so I will need to figure out how to ‘replace’ that corner foam and I’m having trouble figuring out how to accomplish that. Also the ABS ceiling inside is cracking pretty extensively as well. Especially around the brackets that hold two of the the lift arms in place. I know for sure that the rear roadside lift cable has snapped and needs to be replaced but the entire lift arm has broken off of the ABS ceiling as well, with all four bolts still attached to the plastic. I really need some advice on how I may be able to re-attach it back to the ceiling because I won’t be able to replace the lift cable until the lift arm is bolted securely back into place somehow. I’m fairly mechanically inclined for a woman and I am determined to fix this pop up for my family, and on a budget. I know that the roof and this lift arm/cable are the number one priority, then I can worry about “glamping” it up all pretty. Any advice at all on this repair would be so helpful. This issue isn’t something that is very common I guess, as I have not been able to find anything online similar to it.
    And as for the foam issue, what would you recommend to fix this corner where the large piece of foam is gone? I was thinking maybe some bondo and fiberglass mesh, possibly spray foam? It has to be strong enough to securely install a new top latch.
    Sorry for the long winded comment. I just personally don’t know anyone who has any knowledge on pop up campers so I figured I’d ask here since I’ve already found a lot of help through this channel.
    Thank you!!

    Hi Derek! I spoke to you on the phone today. I appreciate your time. Your Video's are fantastic!
    Based on our conversation, I have 2 video suggestions: 1) Can you please do a video on replacing the Thrust Bearing? I am looking at a Coleman that has the crank in the middle of the back about waist high (coleman sante fe) and it is very difficult to crank.
    2) Also, there is a "popping" sound coming from one of the lift arms when trying to raise it. so maybe a video on lift arm pulley replacement?

      Del Kelso have a 2006 FleetWood that my kids and I were cleaning out and about to sell to make room for our new toy hauler coming next month. Well, the roof dropped just a little bit and couldn’t get door up. So went back to the crank to raise it. Room kept lowering alittle. So I went ahead and cranked on it alittle too much. Next thing you know the roof starts dropping and I heard a noise like a spring unwinding. Now the crank is not working. Haven’t had a chance to look under there to see the damage yet. 🥺. I have an early 2000 Coleman Sante Fe. All of a sudden when I crank the top up (to any height) I must hold the crank or the top will free fall back down. This started happening after the first time I used a drill attachment to raise the top. It worked great the first time going up. When I reversed the drill to lower the top, It came down at free fall speed. The next time I cranked up is when I discovered that it won't stay up. Any ideas as to what has gone wrong? Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

      What ended up being the problem? We just bought a 2000 Santa Fe and we have crank mechanism (have thought of getting the drill attachment,) but it is tight going up and slipping going down (as the crank tool is slipping not the roof.) When cranking down I have to turn it to the right again and catch it with a few clicks (tightening it) and then back left slowly lowering it down until it becomes loose again and I have to go right again to tighten with a few clicks. I am not sure what it going on. It feels like a stripped screw or something, but I just tighten back up a few clicks and then start back down again. It takes soooo long to get it down. And it is stiff cranking up.

    Hi, I have a 2007 Fleetwood. I broke 1 cable, I took it to a shop and they replaced the cable. Everything is fine except the new cable either stretched or was never tensioned enough. Is tensioning that cable as simple as just tightening the nut attached to the threaded end of the cable at the whiffletree? I assume you would do this with the roof fully down so there is no tension on the cable. Then test and readjust. Currently the right-front corner won't start raising until the other corners are 2-3" high. THANKS!!

    We recently bought an almost immaculate 1999 Santa Fe and have used it 3 times already. Before our last trip out, I raised the top and extended the beds to load clothing, bedding, etc..
    When I went to lower the top, the crank would not budge CCW. Per this video, it appears that the compression clutch & release system isn't working. I lowered the roof by holding the ratchet paw out of the way while cranking it down. I also had to do this when we were preparing to leave the campground and obviously I do not want to continue doing this.
    How can I determine which direct-drive model this camper uses and what parts would I need to fix it? I do not want to buy the whole assembly for what I consider to be an outrageous price.

    So on my 2010 sante Fe the manual just say to raise the roof all the way up or until the canvas is tight. I’ve noticed some videos that say don’t run the roof all the way up because you can damage the crank system. My question is do I run it all the way up and then back it down one click. To prevent damage or just run it up until it stops. This camper does not have a tension cable for visual use.

    I just bought a 07 Fleetwood element graphite. I felt like my lift system felt stiff/hard to raise (though I have never lifted a pop up before so I have no experience to compare mine to). I lubed all the pulleys and wiffle tree. Which may have helped, either way it's part of maintenance and I don't know if it has ever been done so no harm. Also my clutch assembly does not make the ratcheting sound that I'm hearing on most RUclips videos? And there is no "click" sound once the roof is fully raised? Which I assume is part of the clutch system? I suppose I might need to rebuild my clutch assembly and replace my bearing on the other side of the clutch assembly just before the tree? One last thing, the other day I was closing the camper up and realized that I had forgot to put something inside, so I started to crank the roof back up ( at which this time I did actually hear the ratcheting sound, which made me scratch my head). After roughly 2 revolutions I then realized that the corner latches were secured so I immediately stopped and rolled her back down and called myself an idiot. Did I potentially damage anything or stretch any cables doing this? Also, love your videos. They are very informative and helpful, keep up the great work.

    • @popupcamperpro
      @popupcamperpro  2 года назад +1

      Welcome to the club MCallahan! Your Graphite should be around 90 foot pounds of torque to raise. At this rating, it should be very easy to lift. If it is difficult, thrust bearings are a leading culprit for hard to raise roof issues. For the compression, you may have reset it with the roof latches clasped. This issue is commonly the drive hub extension tube is not fully compressing to the pressure plate. Check out some of our videos on this system and the diagnostics / repairs.

    Great video. Learned a lot in the short video. I have a Fleetwood identical the the one you showed in the video. Today' as I was cranking to open it, the gear was not making the clicking sound that locks the top of the camper from coming down. I tried manually turning the gear and it seems to work as it was "clicking", but not when cranking it. Any thoughts on what could be causing this? I would like to add about 3 or 4 years ago I was told by a local RV dealer the only maintenance to do on pop-up campers is to lubricate the crank assembly and the box that contains the the gears. So I did...and continued to do so every year since. I was not told anything about lubricating the pullies and wiffletree. Could that be what's causing this 'non-clicking" problem? After watching your video, I sprayed the crank assembly and gears with grease remover and I'm letting it sit overnight....hoping to get rid of the lubricant. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    You mention to spray lubricant on the lower and upper pulleys in the video. 1st question: Can I use WB-40 or do you recommend a different type of spray lubricant?
    2nd question: I seen another video that the guy recommends the grease he uses for his wheel bearings to grease the wiffle tree. What kind or brand of grease do you recommend?

    • @popupcamperpro
      @popupcamperpro  3 года назад

      Hello Doug!
      Any all purpose spray lubricant designed for machinery will work on the pulleys. For grease, all purpose axle and bearing grease works well.
      Grease can be graded by how far it “strings” between your fingers.
      Take a look at your local auto parts store for a wide range of these products. Regular maintenance is more important than the name brand in my opinion.

My husband had me try to crank it. It still won’t go up or down. The crank does move about 3 inches either way.
