I used to be wealthy with money . I now have lived in a large canvas tent , for 13 years. I shepherd , milk goats , work my garden and live with very little money . I’ve never been more content
I hear you brother. I've been CEO in tech in the UK for many years and whilst proud of what we did I wasn't comfortable with all I saw around me in the industry. After 25 years of a toxic marriage I left it all behind, gave my ex wife all of our properties and I moved to Thailand 5 years ago at the age of 48 and started over with the right partner and doing something that makes a difference to both the environment and to local people's lives. I have never been happier and although have now built a fairly large compost and waste to resource business that creates lots of local jobs, I am happy to be living a more simple life and doing something that is positive and a world away from corporate greed and corruption
i lost a few million in 2008 after working hard since a kid . i gave my wife everything including the house . i live on a yacht with my dog with little or no $ . i’m 60 fit and healthy. she has 3 properties and not well . marriage was toxic to but hung in for my kids . i love being alone. i walk everywhere and my time is my own . i never want houses and BS again especially in the west less is more
So funny I was going to comment how I moved to Thailand back in 2015 sold my business and moved there .Had to come back to the US to take care of a loved one. I'm back in the US and working in corporate America and it hasn't been great thinking about my next moves.
Sounds like someone who cheated on his Wife & replaced her with a more compliant overseas version. If so, I hope you don’t have children because no matter how old they are I guarantee you they feel abandoned when you left the country. This kind of stuff changes children forever. I hate working 9-5, it’s so draining and basically slavery with a bow on it, the constant small talk would eat at my soul, the constant non stop talking from coworkers. It’s an extension of high school and eats away at our sanity

Go Parkdale! From 1840s to mid-1950s most of my family lived in Parkdale. They bailed when it started changing and the rot set in. But it's still a pretty cool place overall. But it was funny watching their reaction as they'd look at their old homes on Dowling, Wilson Park, and Jameson -- well, 99% of the homes on Jameson were replaced by large apartments in the 50s and early 60s.
We were given this meat suit to learn JOY! We're the only higher beings who have FEELINGS yet we do everything we can to STOP feeling. One of the most liberating revelations for me was realizing things don't make you happy. This triggered my decision to live way below my means, save and invest so I could retire at a reasonable age. Have been retired for 4 years and am living a level of freedom that can't be articulated, it has to be lived to be fully understood and appreciated. I answer to no one. No boss, no wife, no girlfriend. I'm not rich, but am reasonably comfortable, and that's fine with me.

I am only 36, as of recently, so I understand my personal life experience may be shorter compared to others on here etc. but, I am (truly) happily married to a woman who I love more than anything in the universe, and who has supported me and been with me since I was 21. Fully. For 15 years now, and counting. We have a beautiful, almost-11 year old daughter, who was 100% planned and conceived/born to two, married, young(er) parents, which I know isn’t the norm (unfortunately) ….. But all in all, throughout life’s ups and downs, good and bad, I couldn’t and wouldn’t ever imagine trading what I have built and maintained with my little family for anything else out there. I'm not against marriage, per se, it's American "throw men under the bus" divorce law that makes it a bad move for many of us guys. Living under a black cloud of reality every day that tells me, "if she leaves for any reason, I'm screwed" is NOT a healthy way to live and certainly not a solid foundation for a love relationship to thrive and/or survive IMHO. Marriage should be a covenant of the church without legal intervention. The best decision I ever made in life, was buying a few small rental properties, paying them off early, and quitting my extremely high stress engineering job to start actually living my life again and spending more time with family.
It's sad because they make you so go through all those years of schooling and money spent on education before they expose you to the real reality. At that point it makes it hard for someone to just walk away. Not impossible but harder. I think lawyers go through that same ordeal.

I live in an RV, my first wife was wealthy, I walked away from half, 40 Mil +/- IDK never asked. Split 1.5 Mil with my siblings that my aunt wanted me to have. The true power of money lies in what it enables you to do for others.
I won't get into my personal story, but I have learned to love poverty and embrace it. I feel so much more fulfilled - with true joy this time, not what I call "the illusion of materialistic happiness". The moment I was able to truthfully say, "I have enough" was the moment my life truly began. I also learned not to lose faith in humanity. Yes, people can be terrible, but there are some who are genuinely human (if you know what I mean). Holding them close to me has been a greater joy than any amount of money ever was - you never have to concern yourself with ulterior motives or true intentions or "trust/risk factors" ... they're just good friends, and that's more valuable to me than any 7, 8, or 9-digit number. @@shosho4real As I said, I won't get into my personal story, but I don't come from a wealthy family, and, for a time, I lived well below the Western "poverty line", relying on walking to the local food bank for food for myself and my son. I will say, I've never been homeless. That would be a situation I have never experienced. All my life, I've had a place to lay my head, even if it was at a neighbour or friend's house, so I've never been homeless per se, but I do know the feeling of not knowing where my next meal was coming from.
The algorithms reward constant updating and punish creating a well edited website that does not need updating because it is perfect. The more filth and degenerate, the better rewarded on social media. They basically reward short useless dopamine scrolling content that does not educate people all to keep people watching so they can serve as many ads as possible.
The worst black pill is when you realize that the type of people responsible for your dads cancer care are are the same type as the ones telling you that your jeans lasts for too long.
Good for you. What is rich? Rich = money. To me, if you woke up this morning, you are alive. That's rich enough for me. The ability to open my eyes, smell air and be grateful. I wanted to start a business and get rich when I was younger, but I decided to be a blue color Carpenter and I love what I do. The things that make us rich are not just family and friends, but experiences and life goals. Embracing our nature to help one another, and cooperate. I can't stand the way corporations tread on the average person. And it seems like something that's unavoidable as no one in particular is responsible, they can always push it off on somebody else. I would love to see a sustainable world where money wasn't the number one goal, but.....
One of the greatest lessons I learned in my life was to question *why* it is that I 'want' the things that I *think* I want. Once you challenge that initial inclination to seek something that you *believe* will make you happy, you may just find that impulse was going to lead you down the wrong path. Owning *things* for the sake of measuring your value - or level-of-success - is an endless path that leads you to be unfulfilled. Approaching all areas of life with the strategy of a minimalist - determining what you value, what you don't, and what you're indifferent about - is a great first step. I would estimate that most of us value 20% of our possessions. We could probably purge 20-30% of our 'stuff' that we don't care about - and the remaining half that we are indifferent about can go as well. It's a revelation to learn that - when you get rid of 80% of your stuff - and value 100% of what remains - you are living a vastly improved life - unencumbered by the clutter of things and the distracting messages those things feed you about who you are - and what's truly important.
This really resonated a lot. So many young should hear this message. Personally i have been up financially, but hated the stress of it, i thought i wanted more because more would reduce the stress, turned out more brought more stress. I lost about half of it for taking too much risk. Nowadays im doing also work that matter to me, i live really sustainable life financially since i gave up all the high life fancy aspects of life. Nowadays i barely need any money, ofcourse i have to pay for things but these are in hundreds for month, basicly nothing. Im much happier because i realised what i actually need, this gave me life and cured my depressed state of mind. Today i was cutting trees on the forest, and stepped on the bee nest and got stinged by 5 bees, it hurted, but i started to laugh after i runned for cover, this pain turned to joy. In the nature, pain can turn in to joy.
That's exactly why I left Canada and moved to Riau Islands, Indonesia. I've been living in Asia for about 3 years now, I just came back to visit family here in Montreal and I can tell how wildly different it is. I think a lot has to do with culture, western culture is around consumerism and Eastern or non-western culture is centered around family. We could argue that there's consumerism any where you go, but non-western culture isn't centered around it which makes a whole lot of difference. Living around people that live their lives and are content is just a completely different vibe and feeling, it's hard to explain. Subbed, great video man.

Companies have rushed to create throwaway items for their consumers. We have become a throwaway society, and in the same way, the establishment wants to tax the general public for breathing (the green new deal) while letting companies add substantial amounts of pollution. All it boils down is the dollar, and who wants to snatch first. My thought is, "You can't it with you, but if you able to make a positive impact with other ppl life's, that the riches we need to follow."

I totally agree. I am a Mexican ready to retire at 41 years old, leave the big city and go to the south of Mexico and enjoy the beach, rainforest, relax and create a business that really matters.
Depression will cause someone to buy incredible amounts of stuff to fill that hole in their life. Especially from Amazon. I lost most possessions in a terrible flood and was truly hurt by it. Looking back, the most valuable things were the puctures and videos of my children from day 1.

When I retired 7 years ago i moved to Philippines, many of my friends are poor , but vey happy, they embrace life , i would find it difficult to live in western society again.

The whole capitalist system makes me sick and Andalusia, Spain the culture and society is still very humane. I love it here. I'm 85 and knew yrs ago what you know now, so I chose government work, got in and got out. I was a nobody, but have been retired 24 yrs. My physical comforts exceed retired Phd's. But back then, they were prestigious.
Most peeps around me are clueless as to my stack. I like it like that I have never chased money just live a simple life all my life and the money just keeps growing. So I'm not loved by Jesus? I worked 30 years as a nursing assistant to help the throw aways (elderly people who were bedridden or suffering from Alzheimer's or other dementia and nobody wanted them but I loved them and tried to make their lives better. I sacrificed my body for the sake of these poor left behind souls and now I'm crippled up with discs so far into my spinal chord nerve roots my muscles are atrophying because the signals aren't getting through to nourish the muscles. I am homeless and barely able to move - does Jesus not care about me? I gave 59 years to Jesus and all it got me was persecution from my family who were also "Christians" and being kicked out of my religion because an elder physically assaulted me in front of another elder and they didn't do anything about it except ostracize me for saying it happened. What's the story with Jesus? He has favorites??

Kinda similar story for me, moved from ultra pressure cooker London to chilled out Indonesia and I am pretty happy, healthy, based, making money only to use it for basic things and else enjoy my life and thats it. Staying away from those corrupt businesses after a few years in the startup-casino. Now only building things I am proud of and that I know actually help people and give them real value without having to pay back some greedy money hoarders.

Living off grid on a pesticide, herbicide free homestead is where I ended up going from millionaire to a self sustained low cost simple life. I have never felt wealthier or healthier and smelling the flowers.

We were getting ready to sail around the world in 2021 when she got cancer and passed 1 year later. I nursed her until her death and now I am alone and wondering what to do next? Hello, I subbed man, I come from Bosnia and have lived in the U.S. since April of 99. This was a very interesting point of view, I am 26 and this fed powerful info on corporate greed. And how society, has expectations of money and wealth. My generation is now being hit by instant gratification, ego gratification, and narcissism. And have you heard of Bosnia, had a terrible turmoil in the 90s. I have a Magnet fishing channel this is a fun hobby. And here in the U.S. since 99 has changed a lot. My mother would say, "When you 're rich in your heart, you'll never be poor." Also, I listen to my favorite philosopher, Alan Watts. He inspired Bruce Lee too and other philosophers. Alan has a RUclips video called... Money, Time, and Ego. The stuff he talked about then is more relevant now, and the societal shift. I also studied sociology in high school. You touched a lot man. I find it fascinating, how humans went from collective hunter-gathers like prehistoric Native Americans who lived here for tens of thousands of years. to now individualized "urban work." I hear you brother! I was in the reality Tv industry for years and the industry people couldn’t care less about you and will exploit you for as much money they can make until they move on to the next. It’s a wake up call for sure!
Here in the US, the economy is capitalism at the bottom, but socialism at the top. That’s why the big companies can bring so much pressure on suppliers. They are told what to do (e.g. use Chinese manufacturers) and are rewarded by puppet politicians when they do. Government policies punish mavericks and reward puppets.
Only one problem. There's also the fact that growth is required on a finite planet. Guess where that's going to take it? There's the fact that more debt than money is created and compounds, leading to the very debt crisis we're seeing already. There's the subsequent necessity of poverty, which is also consistent with current reality. The dehumanizing mentality is definitely one of the most unfortunate parts. We now fail to see most people as anything but numbers. Also, due to this flawed logic, it's completely unstable and has already essentially reverted back to feudalism. This techno or Neo feudalism is even more unequal than things were before capitalism. How we continue to worship this as the best system we could create is beyond me.... 🤷♂️
The power game makes sense to me. They are truly the most powerful position. They can give you life or death. Even if you are a household big name, if Walmart stops taking Pepsi, it's gg for Pepsi.
On top of that they have thousands of companies fighting for space in their stores. So they can call the shots. Slightly less sales because they go with a company who ships it the easiest way for them, or gives them good margins etc, they can call shots they earned the right.

Honestly, I'm at the end of my rope, I am also far from happy, and lately have been suicidal. peopl willl understand if you change jobs. ppl do it all the time. find a job that you will enjoy, or take some time off btwn jobs b4 your next business adventure. you dont hav to be a business owner, just find a job that you dont hate so you can also have and enjoy your personal, non working time, too. We hav to take time to decompress from th daily stresses. aroma therapy, soft music, low lighting, breath deep, body massage, yoga, light swimming or sauna, meditation, tea, fruits, veggies, healthy soups, walks, water, sleep. Get your hair done, nails, etc even if a guy. any thing to remind your self that you are worth being pampered. be gentle with yourself. seek healthy relationships, even if a loveable pet. grow plants. get a hobby you enjoy. Ive noticed that clothing no longer lasts nearly as long as it used to. What a scam. I also stood up to my bosses once. I highly recommend it if you can afford it.

I hear you brother. I've been CEO in tech in the UK for many years and whilst proud of what we did I wasn't comfortable with all I saw around me in the industry. After 25 years of a toxic marriage I left it all behind, gave my ex wife all of our properties and I moved to Thailand 5 years ago at the age of 48 and started over with the right partner and doing something that makes a difference to both the environment and to local people's lives. I have never been happier and although have now built a fairly large compost and waste to resource business that creates lots of local jobs, I am happy to be living a more simple life and doing something that is positive and a world away from corporate greed and corruption

One of the most liberating revelations for me was realizing things don't make you happy. This triggered my decision to live way below my means, save and invest so I could retire at a reasonable age. Have been retired for 4 years and am living a level of freedom that can't be articulated, it has to be lived to be fully understood and appreciated. I answer to no one. No boss, no wife, no girlfriend. I'm not rich, but am reasonably comfortable, and that's fine with me.

I am only 36, as of recently, so I understand my personal life experience may be shorter compared to others on here etc. but, I am (truly) happily married to a woman who I love more than anything in the universe, and who has supported me and been with me since I was 21. Fully. For 15 years now, and counting. We have a beautiful, almost-11 year old daughter, who was 100% planned and conceived/born to two, married, young(er) parents, which I know isn’t the norm (unfortunately) …..
But all in all, throughout life’s ups and downs, good and bad, I couldn’t and wouldn’t ever imagine trading what I have built and maintained with my little family for anything else out there. They are my peace. My home. My loves.

I won't get into my personal story, but I have learned to love poverty and embrace it. I feel so much more fulfilled - with true joy this time, not what I call "the illusion of materialistic happiness". The moment I was able to truthfully say, "I have enough" was the moment my life truly began. I also learned not to lose faith in humanity. Yes, people can be terrible, but there are some who are genuinely human (if you know what I mean). Holding them close to me has been a greater joy than any amount of money ever was - you never have to concern yourself with ulterior motives or true intentions or "trust/risk factors" ... they're just good friends, and that's more valuable to me than any 7, 8, or 9-digit number. @@shosho4real As I said, I won't get into my personal story, but I don't come from a wealthy family, and, for a time, I lived well below the Western "poverty line", relying on walking to the local food bank for food for myself and my son. I will say, I've never been homeless. That would be a situation I have never experienced. All my life, I've had a place to lay my head, even if it was at a neighbour or friend's house, so I've never been homeless per se, but I do know the feeling of not knowing where my next meal was coming from.

The things that make us rich are not just family and friends, but experiences and life goals. Embracing our nature to help one another, and cooperate. I can't stand the way corporations tread on the average person. And it seems like something that's unavoidable as no one in particular is responsible, they can always push it off on somebody else. I would love to see a sustainable world where money wasn't the number one goal, but.....
One of the greatest lessons I learned in my life was to question *why* it is that I 'want' the things that I *think* I want. Once you challenge that initial inclination to seek something that you *believe* will make you happy, you may just find that impulse was going to lead you down the wrong path. Owning *things* for the sake of measuring your value - or level-of-success - is an endless path that leads you to be unfulfilled.
Approaching all areas of life with the strategy of a minimalist - determining what you value, what you don't, and what you're indifferent about - is a great first step. I would estimate that most of us value 20% of our possessions. We could probably purge 20-30% of our 'stuff' that we don't care about - and the remaining half that we are indifferent about can go as well. It's a revelation to learn that - when you get rid of 80% of your stuff - and value 100% of what remains - you are living a vastly improved life - unencumbered by the clutter of things and the distracting messages those things feed you about who you are - and what's truly important.
This really resonated a lot. So many young should hear this message. Personally i have been up financially, but hated the stress of it, i thought i wanted more because more would reduce the stress, turned out more brought more stress. I lost about half of it for taking too much risk. Nowadays im doing also work that matter to me, i live really sustainable life financially since i gave up all the high life fancy aspects of life. Nowadays i barely need any money, ofcourse i have to pay for things but these are in hundreds for month, basicly nothing. Im much happier because i realised what i actually need, this gave me life and cured my depressed state of mind. Today i was cutting trees on the forest, and stepped on the bee nest and got stinged by 5 bees, it hurted, but i started to laugh after i runned for cover, this pain turned to joy. In the nature, pain can turn in to joy.
That's exactly why I left Canada and moved to Riau Islands, Indonesia. I've been living in Asia for about 3 years now, I just came back to visit family here in Montreal and I can tell how wildly different it is. I think a lot has to do with culture, western culture is around consumerism and Eastern or non-western culture is centered around family.
We could argue that there's consumerism any where you go, but non-western culture isn't centered around it which makes a whole lot of difference. Living around people that live their lives and are content is just a completely different vibe and feeling, it's hard to explain.

We have become a throwaway society, and in the same way, the establishment wants to tax the general public for breathing (the green new deal) while letting companies add substantial amounts of pollution. All it boils down is the dollar, and who wants to snatch first. I'm 85 and knew yrs ago what you know now, so I chose government work, got in and got out. I was a nobody, but have been retired 24 yrs. My physical comforts exceed retired Phd's. But back then, they were prestigious.

So I'm not loved by Jesus? I worked 30 years as a nursing assistant to help the throw aways (elderly people who were bedridden or suffering from Alzheimer's or other dementia and nobody wanted them but I loved them and tried to make their lives better. I sacrificed my body for the sake of these poor left behind souls and now I'm crippled up with discs so far into my spinal chord nerve roots my muscles are atrophying because the signals aren't getting through to nourish the muscles. I am homeless and barely able to move - does Jesus not care about me? I gave 59 years to Jesus and all it got me was persecution from my family who were also "Christians" and being kicked out of my religion because an elder physically assaulted me in front of another elder and they didn't do anything about it except ostracize me for saying it happened.

Kinda similar story for me, moved from ultra pressure cooker London to chilled out Indonesia and I am pretty happy, healthy, based, making money only to use it for basic things and else enjoy my life and thats it. Staying away from those corrupt businesses after a few years in the startup-casino. Now only building things I am proud of and that I know actually help people and give them real value without having to pay back some greedy money hoarders.
People call it leaving the matrix but it’s more like leaving a cult. I call it the cult of exceptionalism which rhymes with capitalism.
yea, ism's are typically cults. people who vote are in a cult and don't even realize it. it starts with a "us vs them" mentality, that part is obvious, but then its officially a cult once their "objectively false belief systems" become "harmful to them and more importantly non members"..."government" which is from latin control of the mind, IS the biggest baddest cult we have on the planet, and it's world wide. authority, it doesn't exist in nature beyond maturity. they make damn sure we don't mature mentally...
I lost a ton of money in the last few years because of decisions I made for my own welfare. It was literally me or the business and I had to choose me for once.
I'm a lot poorer. I owe back taxes, and I'm happier and healthier than I've ever been

Living off grid on a pesticide, herbicide free homestead is where I ended up going from millionaire to a self sustained low cost simple life. I have never felt wealthier or healthier and smelling the flowers.

And how society, has expectations of money and wealth. My generation is now being hit by instant gratification, ego gratification, and narcissism. And have you heard of Bosnia, had a terrible turmoil in the 90s. I have a Magnet fishing channel this is a fun hobby. And here in the U.S. since 99 has changed a lot. My mother would say, "When you 're rich in your heart, you'll never be poor." Also, I listen to my favorite philosopher, Alan Watts. He inspired Bruce Lee too and other philosophers. Alan has a RUclips video called... Money, Time, and Ego. The stuff he talked about then is more relevant now, and the societal shift. I also studied sociology in high school. You touched a lot man. I find it fascinating, how humans went from collective hunter-gathers like prehistoric Native Americans who lived here for tens of thousands of years. to now individualized "urban work." Here in the US, the economy is capitalism at the bottom, but socialism at the top. That’s why the big companies can bring so much pressure on suppliers. They are told what to do (e.g. use Chinese manufacturers) and are rewarded by puppet politicians when they do. Government policies punish mavericks and reward puppets.
Only one problem.
There's also the fact that growth is required on a finite planet.
Guess where that's going to take it?
There's the fact that more debt than money is created and compounds, leading to the very debt crisis we're seeing already.
There's the subsequent necessity of poverty, which is also consistent with current reality.
The dehumanizing mentality is definitely one of the most unfortunate parts.
We now fail to see most people as anything but numbers.
Also, due to this flawed logic, it's completely unstable and has already essentially reverted back to feudalism.
This techno or Neo feudalism is even more unequal than things were before capitalism.
How we continue to worship this as the best system we could create is beyond me.... 🤷♂️

The power game makes sense to me. They are truly the most powerful position. They can give you life or death. Even if you are a household big name, if Walmart stops taking Pepsi, it's gg for Pepsi.
On top of that they have thousands of companies fighting for space in their stores. So they can call the shots. Slightly less sales because they go with a company who ships it the easiest way for them, or gives them good margins etc, they can call shots they earned the right.
This video means a lot to me. I'm far from being a millionaire, but I've been working hard for years, and have accrued a nice savings. Honestly, I'm at the end of my rope, I am also far from happy, and lately have been suicidal. I'm still working for my company because I know they'd be in a tough spot if I left, but I hate my job, and it's taking a serious toll. Thank you for sharing!
Get some help. There are lots of pocasts out there on clinical psychotherapy that will be helpful. Call a mental health hotline. Your life is worth living, just reach out for help.
Make a change in your life it's simple!! Just move to a different place where life's cheaper and you will have no stress!! Or start traveling to see where you will be happier! Good luck!
peopl willl understand if you change jobs. ppl do it all the time. find a job that you will enjoy, or take some time off btwn jobs b4 your next business adventure. you dont hav to be a business owner, just find a job that you dont hate so you can also have and enjoy your personal, non working time, too. We hav to take time to decompress from th daily stresses. aroma therapy, soft music, low lighting, breath deep, body massage, yoga, light swimming or sauna, meditation, tea, fruits, veggies, healthy soups, walks, water, sleep. Get your hair done, nails, etc even if a guy. any thing to remind your self that you are worth being pampered. be gentle with yourself. seek healthy relationships, even if a loveable pet. grow plants. get a hobby you enjoy. I wish someone gav me this advice when i was down. most important get rid of toxic relationships and jobs that bring you down. good luck.❤

In Canada the employees are trained to please their boss and not challenge him and you get unproductive labor just the same there's more to it than history and politics of old leaders but all in all I can totally relate and see how evil things have gotten

It's engineered to last as long as it's in fashion. The fashions are engineered to change several times a year.

Yes my friend, I did the same thing, different business and I lived in USA. But came to the same exact realization. Maybe for some money and material possession makes them happy but for me it did not. I live a simple life now with honor and integrity.
