  • I recently sold my dealer installed factory roof racks. Part of the sale was a partial trade of some used roof molding strips. This video covers how to install the front and rear pieces of roof drip molding on a 2021 Toyota Tacoma.

    Yep...My drip molding (long piece) comes off every time I go through the car wash. Putting it back in the track is just part of my "post wash" routine now...LOL. I've been considering using the double sided tape as well. Thanks for the tip!

      Of course! I would say after having mine on for a few years, I would suggest using something more permanent than the double sided tape, it seems to be losing its grip over time.

    How hard was it to get the bolts off to remove the roof rack? I have read that they use red thread lock and you have to heat the bolts with a torch to loosen the red threadlock. Did you have to do all that or just remove the bolts?

    • @kekanipahu

      Oh yeah, those things were a total PITA. Red thread lock was present and made them extremely difficult to remove. I actually stripped one and had to drill it out. Not easy at all!

    Mine rood molding was loose but I caught in time before it fell off. I used 3M red tape which designed for outdoor body emblems which holds up very well for my roof moldings. I think the molding loosens up from all the vibration from the vehicle. I also feel that people who lost their molding in car wash. The molding was loose prior to the car wash and during the process the molding came off. Rarely does any one wax their car roof to check the roof molding.

    I was looking to replace molding with a OEM roof rack. What did you not like about the roof rack that you removed it?

    • @kekanipahu
      @kekanipahu  Год назад

      Good question! I actually think the stock racks have a pretty good design, I like the way you can fold the crossbars out of the way when you are not using it. I just didn't like the aesthetics...I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I have Yakima bars on there now, and I really like the way they look, plus there are so many useful attachments that are available.

    i noticed on my 07 4runner that the molding was coming up near the windshield, then water started to drip into the cap slowly. Would this possibly fix the problem or is that a windshield issue? Thanks

    • @kekanipahu
      @kekanipahu  3 года назад +1

      I'm not sure if a new molding would fix the problem...is it leaking into the cab of your 4Runner? If so, it might be a windshield seal, if not, probably just the molding. I would try to glue down the old seal if possible, the new ones are so expensive, and from what I hear, not going to fix the problem of what seems to be a design flaw on these things.
