Replacing Lights in Climate Control Panel Toyota Tacoma

- This video shows, from start to finish, how to replace the two bulbs that backlight the climate control panel on a 2009 Toyota Tacoma. The same bulbs are used for 2005-2011 Tacomas, so these instructions probably work for those model years as well.
The Amazon link for the bulbs I used is here: a.co/18HppvC
Dealer's service writer said it would be $300 minimum because they would have to take the whole dash apart. I believed him. Consequently, this went unrepaired for years until I saw this. Took me 10 minutes because I was extra careful. Thank you so much for posting this and doing so without making a stage show out of it! I was so pleased to have these lights working again!
I called my Toyota dealership, they wanted $130
Then I ran across your video and did by myself for 15 bucks
It was easy
Thanks Lisa🤷🏼♀️
Most of these dash lamps can be purchased in LED. It's good to know the T size. Without boring you to death, measure the bulb width. You should get a number in 1/8ths of an inch. These look to be (maybe) T3, or 3/8ths of an inch (the glass part of the lamp, not the plastic base). Amazon has them in multiple colors, usually in a 10 pack, usually $10 or less. NEVER touch the glass on an incandescent lamp. Your skin oil (even if you don't think you're leaving any) will shorten the life of the bulb because the lamp will develop hot spots where the skin oil is at, leading to premature failure. Also, for under $10 you can get the plastic panel tools that will prevent damage to the surfaces your working with. Excellent demonstration of the procedure (except for touching the lamp with bare skin and using metal tools.) I've left marks, so this is hard-earned advice. Thumbs up on the video. And yes, I never comment on a video that isn't at least 1 year old because who cares what I have to say anyway!
Dude thank you. I bought these lights in September and couldn't figure out where they went and couldn't find anything online. I took the whole assembly apart and found this video while searching for a whole assembly replacement. Thank you so much.
I swear this was the best when I found it I have not tried it yet but I will this week or within the next few weeks just been busy. Was it easy change?
i know its years after, but for anyone that sees this, you can also pull the knobs off and it gives you access to pulling locations.
Thanks !!! Just replaced the bulbs and purchased them using the link you provided.
Excellent! Thank you for showing us how to do it and thanks for including the part number!
Thank you so much. The dealership told me $120 bucks. Now I can fix it myself. Thanks
Just completed this repair myself. Thanks for the video!
Ha, perfect, the paint can opener worked like a CHAMP, took me about 2 min to do. Thanks Craig.
Supper Helpful, thanks for making the video!!
Thanks so much. The lights in my 08 have randomly been turning off for months. Glad to have it fixed!
These are T4 incandescent bulbs. I just ordered a ten pack (I'll have LOTS of spares) of white LEDs from Amazon for $10.17 (including tax).💡💡
So is the size really T4 cuz i order the T3 and they seem to small
Thank you for this! Was very easy to do thanks to your video.
Easy fix, thank you!!!! FYI I had the proper plastic trim tools, and promptly broke one off in the dash. I also had the same paint can tool and that worked perfectly 😀
thanx for the post , the panel came out easy , now I ordered the bulbs ,
there are no LED bulbs for this model however
Best video I've seen on how to do this.

Do you think it’s possible to replace these with LED lights? I haven’t really looked into it
Great job! Very informative.
Dude you are the best saved my ass on this one thank you brother so so much!!!

Thank you!
Thank you for the video. It was really helpful for me.
But for some reason it doesn't play beyond 1:19 min anymore, I wonder if the video file got corrupted.
Thanks so much my light went out today.
do they make red ones ??
Thanx. That helped me
Thanks Don
For that video
Hello, sorry where did you buy them???
Thanks!
Where did you find one cheaper at
Does anyone know if this removal method would work for a '11 Camry?
That’s awesome.
Can anyone tell me the part number?
I think it is a T4.2
I always use a couple putty knives to get the panel out. Thinner and no sharp points.
My lights keep getting loose. I tighten as hard as i can and almost stripping out the plastic. I take screwdriver off and comes loose again.
Mine have been annoying me so I will order a set and replace knowing I don’t have to taste the dash apart to get to them.
why didn't you replace with LEDs ?
Why didn't you replace them with LEDs?
Question for all 4th gen 4runners and Tacoma's. Are the bulbs the same, I know the part # for 4runners but im trying 2 figure out if they match up 2 Tacoma's cause I'm trying to buy bulbs 2 replace the ones on my 04 runner and the website dosent have an exact fit search engine on their site. I've seen Tacoma reviews Honda's and other toyotas but not a runner so I'm going off speculation trying 2 connect the dots.
Any help much appreciated.
