When you read the book, you literally become the main character or a spirit revolving around them. And It ACTUALLY WORKS
Just read Assassins creed the secret crusade. I literally felt like Altair 😂
I used to get that when I was a kid, but now (I'm just getting back into reading) I don't feel it anymore. D'you have any advice as to how I can get that feeling of engagement back?
@@user-sk7il1ur9s totally depends on the book and ur attachment with it, i'd say just keep exploring new books fr

I feel that way and am thankful to stumbled upon Philosophy of Marcus Aurelius Meditations at 30 years old.
You can feel his passion and his love for reading in this video.
“I can enter the world of the person from my past, delve deep into his thoughts, experience ideas I could never think on my own, *Saturate* myself with his thoughts”.
Reminds me that I need to read the book, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. It has been collecting dust on my shelf for a long time now.
if you start reading that book, i would suggest you to look at another book called " chanakya sutra". i unintentionally started both of them and I feel like Meditations teaches how to withstand pain while chanakya stura teaches avoiding at first place
@@chetanpandu832 sure 👍

"Those who read have thousands of lives and a myriad of solutions to call upon, those who do not have only one thread to pull"
Those who read have thousands of decisions to make, those who do not read have no analysis paralysis.
Actually true, when i read book i just wanted to see hows life from other people perspective and how they deal with their life problem(s)
True
I think one of the first big books I ever read was Lord of the rings and it was just like being in a different world I used to read it almost every winter because it was just like ah yes that time of dark where you cant go anywhere really and school is a bire but then you get to go to bed under the covers with a torch and out into this world of elves and whatnot. ..I remember reading camus disturbed the hell out of me after reading one short novel of his the whole world became hollowed out and empty it was freaky. I never read any more camus.
This is so true and it is very true for authors, as well. When you write stories, it's like you embody those characters and you become this different personality to really lay it down in writing. It's like living vicariously through the various characters that you create. It's awesome to hear him express the reason why he loves to read. That is what every writer wants their reader to feel like.
Except that it all comes from you. You can't channel or embody something you don't comprehend. You can convince yourself for sure and most authors do that. But everything that you create comes from you and nowhere else.
I feel this way about many authors, and Jordan is one of them 🙏
I’m 43 and I decided at 19 that I’d always be reading a book. Highly recommend
I started reading at 26.. I’m 28 now, and it really is an amazing way to spend your time. You get something from books that you can’t get from any other art form. I read fiction mostly, and I find it just as fulfilling as any “self growth” book out there.
@@austinquick6285 I’d also recommend keeping a journal (writing of some sort) and meditating
Peterson needs more content on reading. Great short.
This is why he is undoubtedly the one of the best.... such an intensity and passion for learning would definitely shaped up a man's mind to the core
I love reading history & geopolitical books. Also started reading philosophy books. It feels so good especially while reading history books you want to go back in that era ❤
What is an example of a geopolitical book if I were to pick out a juicy one to start with?
Now I feel the urge to pick up a book. :)

Amazon actually started as a book-selling company.
Also, Barnes and Noble.

This guy literally describes why I read hell why we all read. Love this Man
This man is brilliant, love him
Jordan is such an inspiration! I love to listen to his passion.
People say that fiction is a waste of time. They don't understand that it's meant to take you on a journey, through a different timeline a different place a different environment. Reading good Fiction is an experience
This motivates to read more books. Also, I would recommend every man to read about Marcus Aurelius. His book "Meditations" is superb.
JP is a Genius. when someone ask me why do i read a lot i show them this video
I would've thought reading would help you formulate your own thoughts.

Reading is a way to visit the world. Their mind and words, and your mind.
Reading is the ability to be and learn anything, and there really is no substitute.

In my opinion, reading is better than scrolling on tiktok watching morons with a double digit IQ doing cringy stuff. Proud to say that i am a high level thinker who reads psychology and philosophy books.

Did he not just make you wanna read like you watch tv? This, my friend is how you sale a book 🙌🏾
Well it depends on what you read. Reading Nitzshe, Jung and other thinkers is like tapping into their mind. It’s going to open your mind to a whole different world. They can offer you something we always crave. Wisdom and guidance. It’s not like you are reading some funny entertaining books.

So freaking TRUE!! DAMN!!
There's too much learning to do. Developing skills, developing mind through reading, developing speaking through socialization and developing your physical body. But if its what it takes let's do it
I've never thought of it like that. That actually made me want to read a book..
Right on.
Reading is a virtue, tbh.
American Psycho was a total fever dream in terms of experiencing someone completely different, yet finding some surprising similarities.
Also another thing I love is reading with a female protagonist. Since I'm a guy, having the perspectives of women, written by women, has totally changed how I understood the experience of being a woman.
Try Toni Morrison, JP. That blew my mind; and I've read Nietzsche, Jung and Rousseau.
Marcus Aurelius- Meditations
Exactly ❤true❤
Love this!
Hence why my nature as an introvert, I love reading for that reason
I’m hated reading same, just like running but now I run miles on end. I’m trying to start reading and I got both of David Goggins book to start with. Crome why Jordan Peterson is saying it’s so similar to what I used to do all the time watch shows “mainly anime” I got so much great lessons from them. And was hooked on them for so long.
I like reading foreign novels including those have not been translated. I always understand them with the help of Immersive Translate. When I read a novel, I seem to become the main character of the book and can experience all the interesting things that he goes through.
And that’s a great example of Monumental history as Nietzsche stated
Love it

I normally really don't like JP but this is really solid advice.

The Best Book Ever
Hats off!
Just bought The Master & Margarita. First piece of Russian literature I’ve ever owned let alone read. I’m excited but also nervous for some reason. I feel like I might not get everything I need out of it.
But I guess having my own copy means I can read as many times as necessary
It’s very true

Thank you
That's why I love reading romance books when I am single lol
It is Hans Landa from "Inglorious Basterds".
Yes! Yes!
True. 💯💯💯💯
Try sound normalising for tone when you speed up.
Reading is fundamental
I agree.
Scrolling this while i’m on break from reading The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky 😳
I used to get goosebumps but only as to flex them, never read em much
Ive picked up books and without opening a page, outside forces would squeeze my head until i set the book down, some of us are unable to dove into the realms of other minds because of the TOXIC seeds that will be planted!
This is what the secret teaches you become whay you think of and if you think about negative things you will attract negative experiences
This has rarely occurred to me, in the sense of becoming intertwined and so inclined to a story, but for the second time, as I’m reading the lord of the flies, I’m becoming so obsessed, I feel like I’m one of the boys on the island listening to all the others as they talk, and do what they do. Having to put the book down and go to work feels like dragging me from where I really want to be (not literally ofc, I prefer to not be stranded on an island.) it’s a shame the book only has like 200 pages, it’s going to be over soon. (Which is also weird for me to say, as I’ve been intimidated by books over 300)
My ego wants me to become the most developed and superior mind, though.
I on the other hand, if 'I' makes any difference, want to become the most powerful thinker, learner and doer to see what it is like to have no steps laid in front of you.
To be the frontier brick layer of human progress.
No one to follow.
And it would be even more interesting if I could KNOW that at that point, if I ever reach it, I am the ultimate.
Then I would KNOW that there is no one that can help me.
I wonder what that feels like.
I don't know why I'm emotionally 😢❤❤
I started reading Nietzsche and Jung when I was 12 to 14 years old, despite not understanding much of what I was reading they tore me apart. Later, after a few PhDs they both put me back together again. Then, I went back to Dostoevsky, he just kicked me in the balls and punched me until I no longer had any teeth left. That is the way I always liked it.
Reading from the best is just like entering the ring with Mike Tyson in his prime. First, you get KO, then you start learning not to get KO until the third round, then the fourth, and so on. However, you always know you are eventually going to get KO, LOL. And that is the beauty of exploring the mental universe of great minds. One day...
True

A good reason to read the Bible…🥰
If the books stores sold weren't shi* and were actually masterpieces. I'd be able to read a whole more.
Roland from dark tower series is such a character. He's selfish. Yet loves his friends after a time. Yet still seems to only care for that tower. That and I love jack reacher and how he plays chess with everyone. For me reading is the best form of escape. Too bad most people I know think it's boring
Pick your peers! Leaders are readers.
Which books is he referring to? I would like to read them. I need the titles and authors please and thanks
At 72 I get "how do you know that?" Or "where did you get that idea?" After Reading a Book a week, who knows which book gave me information to formulate new ideas.
Reading is simply the "learning from other people's mistakes" saying from billionaires. But being wise requires experience. So, read the books and apply it and if doesn't work at least you'll know that it doesn't and you'll know what works.
