i like how one day this dude decided "yeah, i should make a 2 and a half hour thesis that will take 2 years out of my life on a specific mechanic in rocket league"
@@oxohashoxo maybe you should actually watch the video and learn airroll. am i wrong for thinking the reason you are mad is because you actually cant airroll and you get frustrated? let your rage out on that "spooky" guy instead, because Losfeld actually wants you to learn because he cares. LOVE
Holy shit this is the in depth explanation the RL fanbase has been dreaming of. Bro dropped the most important instructional video for RL on the internet.

If you don't have rings here are some map recommendations: Corridor (2x length of standard map, great for long straight away), Double Goal (huge map, great for jumping goal to goal) Barricade (4 pillars in middle to help you make your own path, like fly in figure 8s or clover top bottom middle bar) Utopia Retro (great to go in circles and use the goal as a tunnel) Core 707 (drop shop map, big circular map)
I’m 5 minutes into it and I can assure you that this video is no ordinary video, this is one of those rare videos, where you will stare into a screen for 3 hours and be grateful.
@@Frosty4Real he prolly had to pause, rewatch, take notes, and/or try to apply the concepts in the video.(thats what ive done, ive watched this vid 2-3times)
For anyone turned off by the lengh: this may not be the video you want, but its the video you need. Thank you for explaining this. It's done at the pace it needs to be in order to respect the nuances of the mechanic(s). Genuinely excited to begin after watching this! Coming from a C2 that cant air roll to save his life.
Thank you so much for your comment, it does mean a lot. Indeed, it is long, but imI have two things to say : first, how can content creators and tutorial makers think they can teach something that literally takes 100 hours minimum to be learnt in 5 to 20 min videos? Secondly : a 2h20 long video for a 100h min to learn mechanics is really, really not that long. If you have any questions during your learning and training process, don't hesitate to comment or ask on my streams at twitch.tv/losfeldrl, I'm generally happy to answer (sometimes I'm tired and just want to chat). But ask questions once you've practiced a bit, not before!
Idk man, I'm sure it gets into stuff that is relevant, but I'm almost half an hour in and it's been basically just him ranting about the game and psyonix and not anything that we actually needed to hear.
@@johnmiller2905 The rant is 7 mins long. Out of 2h23. When you want to explain things correctly, you need time. Otherwise, you can go watch a 15 min "in depth" tutorial and have enough confirmation bias to think that it said anything remotely interesting and important. Have some respect, if not for me, for the work that was put in.
@@LosfeldRL I was not talking about the 7 minute section you labeled as a rant, I was talking about the entire half hour I watched which is almost completely filler and tangents. Which is fine, nothing wrong with that, but I was responding to the claim that the length was necessary. However, in your major defense, you did put a caption which I completely missed telling us the actual method doesn't start until 38 minutes. So I will take responsibility for not noticing that - even if that message was itself only shown after a whole 5 minute intro.
You have the best understanding of air-roll out of anyone I've ever seen. If you ask any pro how to air-roll most of them will just reply that you just "feel" it and to just practice. I've watched countless air-roll tutorials and none of them mentioned how to calibrate your car, or the concept of the "clock". They just show how the car moves when you move your joystick while air-rolling with the hood facing the screen, and nothing else. I always thought you needed to memorize how the car moves at each position in the car's revolution, but you just need to be on tempo with the car's revolution. The fact no one has touched on the rhythm aspect of air-rolling is baffling. This video was incredibly enlightening, thank you. Also, the intro was the best cinematic rocket league experience I've ever had hands down.
Thank you so much for your comment, it does mean a lot. Indeed, if you wanted to learn every joystick input for every angle of the revolution of the car, that would be 64 inputs, at least. Instead, you only need to learn one angle of the car, the neutral one. Be careful though, calibrating is merely an introduction to the reverse clocks, and the clock is nothing more than a feedback loop. Like all feedback loops, it will only make you go straight while feeling your car. I'm very glad to read comments like yours, it makes me feel like I didn't waste my time. And yeah, we're proud of that intro, it took us 50 hours :) Thanks again, friend.
It's not hiding knowledge from pro players though, like he said in the video it's just blindness. I am very good at air roll right and learned the exact same way the tutorials explain it, just by doing, I have like 3.5k hours and spent much of it on aerial control. Most good players learned DAR the same way, so when we explain to a new player how to do it we say that exact same thing. Kevpert is the perfect example, his old tutorials are pretty much what every good player learned from back in the day. If our entire movement is muscle memory we can't really explain it.
@@ragegaze3482i peaked 1950 and this is so accurate bro like my friend just told me to hold air roll left and spin my joystick until it felt right And eventually I got it 🤣
We are delighted to inform you, as part of the RL doctoral committee and the advisors group, we have reviewed your thesis defense and have approved your dissertation on the "Losfeld Method: application of empiricism, methodology and concepts of Directional Air-Roll" for the Doctoral degree of Rocket League Sciences. Dr. Losfeld, we are honored to have you as part of the community.
Sir, thank you. It is a great and ineffable honor for me to be apart of such innovative and spirited individuals. I would like to thank my friends, my colleagues, my dog who allowed me to take breaks, the city of Paris, my former teacher and mostly my future wife, who I have yet to meet. Thank you all so much, and enjoy the rest of the evening. I'll put this awars and degree on the chimney when I have one.
@@LosfeldRL Sir I'm sorry to inform you but there is an anti-science group known as the Unidirectional Anti-Air-Roll Committee, or UAARC for short. They believe Air rolling is fake and that the only true way to enlightenment is staying on the ground in the top right position. It's a sad sight even with all the empirical evidence and documents I've provided on the thesis of Losfeld Method, they simply claim to debunk every point of the thesis even with the evidence right in front of them. It's reminds me of... hmmm the Flat Ball Society. They may be associated with each other.
Man, it's very obvious this project was made with great passion! Feels like I went through a journey, not only about cars that fly with balls, but physics, philosophy and about life itself. With a twinge of comedy in the middle. I usually don't comment, but this video had it all and really connected with me. Your hard work and help do really deserve attention and kind regards. Truly inspiring, Losfeld! Btw the part you talk about gurus/coaches was infinitely more motivating than anyone of them could've dream of being lol
Thank you so much. Indeed, a lot of time (2 years), hard work, thinking, analyzing and heart were put in this video. And I'm glad they can transpire. Thank you so much for your comment, it does mean a lot.
I've pretty much mastered air roll but I still sat through the entire video because it was refreshing to see someone actually explain how to air roll and on top of that I still learned new techniques
Absolutley unreal that you not only understand the mechanic but have the ability to parse out its many elements so eloquently. I was hooked once i heard your philosophy on the game... its more than the constraints presented to us by the devs (car soccer). 30 mins a day is less than the hour i already play and i would have never imagined air rolling would be possible with the hours im willing to commit. Thankyou so much for your contribution to the community!!!.
Hi, thank you for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it and it could help. Indeed, I've heard no video in which people actually say how DAR works. 30 mins a day is the minimum I recommend, indeed. Understand that if you understand the exercise 2, you understand how DAR works. After that, it's just improving. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to comment here or during my streams if you can catch me. I try to answer as many questions as I can. Thanks again for your comment, I really am glad people find it helpful and recognize the work that went behind it. Cheerio!
I said in the back of my mind someone out of all of these RUclipsrs was gonna break this down in a way I’ll understand, instead of hearing “ set it up and full send ur car like this and repeat this for hours and hours until you get it right.” But this guy broke down the motions from the joystick to the rhythm rather than beating around the bush. Well done.
after about 10-15 hours of practice i was able to consistently beat the neon rings map. thanks for keeping it real.. best rocket league video of all time.
Both. And of course I am still working on it. I would train rings 3 times a week or so for like 15 min. But in game I would force myself to use air roll. I whiffed a lot at fist but eventually got better and better. I think that’s the best way to learn mechanics is to always do them in game. Then you have no choice but to get better otherwise you will fail a lot.
Yeah, I'm really proud of it all, the voice, the mixing, the colouring, and especially the editing : if you look and listen carefully, the music and video go together quite perfectly! 50h just for that ! Thanks for your comment, I'm glad someone liked the intro :)
The only reason I watched 2 hours of this was the intro and I am gc1. That was the best rl cinematic I have seen for the last 2 years. Knowledge delivery was impeccable too. I hope he publishes this as some research paper. I believe this method works outside of the game aswell such as piloting aircraft or rockets
@@dmax1 Thank you so much for your comment. And yes, theoretically DAR works in other video games as well as real life, there is no reason it couldn't !
@@LosfeldRL something like "methodological approach to rapid adjustments of velocity on moving objects with thrusters" would suffice. You have most of the writings ready aswell. Let me know if you do it :D
My friends have always playfully poked fun at me for how overly-verbose i am in regards to the nitty-gritty machinations of the games we play. But it's that same desire not to know just HOW; but also WHY that has always given me the ability to excel and surpass them in essentially everything we play. Expansiveness of this caliber is what makes me love video games personally, and i pretty much insta-subbed as soon as I started to comprehend the approach you were taking with this video. I earnestly hope you make more videos, and i encourage you to take your time to make them as good as this. Your analysis is passionate and very illustrative... and i can't help but anticipate more awesome stuff like this in the future.
Hey, thank you for your comment :) Unfortunately, I won't ever give that much time again for this game, at least not freely. If I do more videos, they will be carrying one or two pieces of information that's never been given or barely, but I will scarcely edit them.
After 4 of watching and two hours of exercises with your method I already see improvement and most important thing here is that you have method to pass your knowledge. Congratulations on your work! You will become Rocket League legend.
Thanks a lot for your comment :) I don't know about legend, but I'd like people to understand that this video is unique. Nobody, among all the tutorials, have actually understood, analyzed and tought AT LEAST how DAR works. No one. I'm glad you found it helpful and that you already see improvement. If you know how to do exercice 2, you basically have understood how DAR works. You're not good at it, but you still know how to do it. THen the more you train, the better you will be. Those half reverse clocks will come ;)
@@LosfeldRL this is true - nobody presented this in such great way that I finally see how it work and understand where I am going. Usual advice in this so called community is "go do some ring maps". You are presenting how this work and why this work and you give exercises that lead me to the target. Instead of 100 hours of brainless grinding I know how this work before I started real exercise. And btw your vocal and english is great. Viva La France etc I guess :)
Incredible. I’ve been a “retired” GC1 for about 5-6 months now. (Been playing since 2017) Always was a manual Air Roller due to the difficulty understanding this topic. This video has literally inspired me to return to the game and relearn as a directional Air Roller. Ty
I've watched half of your video so far and dedicated 4 to 5 hours to training. During this time, I managed to reduce my Rings 2 map completion time from 14 minutes to just 5 minutes using your method. I still have a long journey ahead of me, but I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for reigniting my passion for Rocket League. Thank you immensely.
this is the ONLY satisfactory explanation of air roll mechanics I've ever seen. I haven't even picked up my controller yet and already know that my knowledge from this video will allow me to get better FAST by being able to understand what I'm FEELING. Great work man.
Don't know why but this video popped in my YT home 4 months after his release, and today 2/8/2024 i'm officially starting training with the Losfeld Method, I will comment again the day I will hit my first air dribble whirling around, loved it, from the beginning to the end

The video we've all been waiting for! For anyone who's wondering if this method works - since watching the original video about 6 months ago, with plenty of practice, I've went from barely being able to DAR, to almost sub 10 minute runs on Neon Heights, I can do plenty of obstacle map levels (even some small ones) while DAR and boosting the ENTIRE time, and I've gone from D1 to almost C2 🥳 thanks LosfeldRL!
Hey man, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your kind words, I'm happy I could be of any help while trying to grasp this very hard but yet fascinating flying technique. My PB on Neon is 9:04, I'm sure you can beat it!
@@IsaacAvery ... I posted the teaser, which is the intro of the method, while finishing editing the actual method. I don't know why you bring honesty into this,it's literally logical to post the teaser before the actual video.
This video gave me, a 2.7k hours air roll right GC, enough motivation to finally learn air roll left!! Having such a clear and extensively informative video on how to air roll makes me believe that learning air roll left can’t be as hard as I initially thought. Hopefully I will learn quickly thanks to the explanations and exercises in the video. My journey starts on the 19th of February 2024!
@@LosfeldRLit axtually starts to matter more in the pro scene, but When you want to position your car (for example to the ball or to the 50) in a certain way and where is hood/ wheels facing matters, you may need to do this the fastest way possible so you can't wait for tge full revolution. Yes, you can just learn small single movements separately from air roll, and this should be enough Until you need to immidiately follow those movements up with dar flying. If you think of how rarely it happens, in what kind of scenarios and that the pace of game influences how often you would want to do it, then it starts making sense that it starts to influence the game only at rlcs level. But winning is not the only reason people train mechs, as you said in your video. Mechs are fun and being better than others feels good
Very occasionally, since I have the bad habit of almost always using my directional air roll, I go for a ball and have a much harder time getting a good touch on it than I would’ve with the other air roll. Not the most useful thing in the world to know both, but can be helpful.
@@Disosway you can train to overcome your bad habit. You shouldn't avoid bad habits when training mechanics because it slows your training progress significantly. Overcoming bad habits is way easier than training mechs.
Best air roll video I have ever experienced I have already watched it 10 times and I practice along. It has been 1 week since I first watched this. Now I am getting hang of the tempo and the rhythm. Now I can turn left and right and can make corrections if needed. Thanks mate
I feel like I understand this concept, but I can’t figure out which direction to press to get it to where I want to lock it. Finding the vector is my problem.
After watching this video, as a former Champ 2-3 player who hasn't played in a while and having not had such an amazing resource to learn directional air-roll, now I think I'm starting to understand why my shadow defense is so shit and why people in Diamond 2-3 are flip-resetting on me. It took watching Sunless' newest video where he specifically shouted you and this project out for me to even be aware this was a thing. Godspeed for all the time and effort you put into this, man. This kind of stuff would have other popular creators foaming at the mouth trying to make "aerial masterclass" courses they can charge people for, yet even after dedicating two whole YEARS of your life to this project you gave it to us completely free of charge. Take notes, people, this is what REAL passion and generosity look like.
@@melodyofthelexicon Thank you for your comment :) 99% of the tutorials are shit. I would know, I have watched and reviewed them on stream. People don't know how dar works, and don't know how to explain it. They just want to make tutorials hoping to get a bit of fame and money on the internet while not working hard. I despise them all. RL is very objective in its mechanics. If you don't have a good sense of analysis, you shouldn't make a tutorial. Integrity and hard work is the only thing that brings good quality, it's time for people to understand it and stop being manipulated sheep. Stop trusting tutorials. Just look at infinite dash : there are countless tutorials that say différent things. That MEANS that people haven't gotten to the root of it. I came to the root of DAR, and it took me time, effort, sweat, and dedication. I hope people can at least see that. The only thing I make people pay for is DAR analysis, because I take my personal time to answer them individually. What annoys me is when people shit on me instead of shitting on literally all of the other tutorials, that are really shit. And because I'm a passionate person, I sound like the black knight when I'm the whitest one on the market. The irony of life, am I right ? Thanks for your comment, it means a lot. Come by a stream and say hi :)
@@LosfeldRL I'll definitely have to check out a stream at some point after I've settled into my new apartment. But for now, it's time to start training seriously again. It's time to get back to Champ, lol.

If you are a KBM player then this is how you would perform the exercises by their key presses: You WILL need to watch his video to understand what the exercises are and how to do them. This is literally just the key presses on KBM Exercise #1 tornado spin (Q/D) into reverse tornado spin (Q/A) at each revolution (should go straight) Exercise #2 go vertical, tap boost, perform phases 1-3. Phase 1 tap one quick input of pitch up (s) and one quick input of pitch down (w) at the beginning of every other revolution (one rev s, 2nd rev w) Phase 2 hold the inputs from phase 1 for one-half the revolution Phase 3 hold the inputs from phase 1 for one whole revolution Exercise #3 Clocks - Single then Double x2 (Q/w-d-s-a) Exercise #4 Lock-and-clock i.e,.. Jump, begin clock from a non-standard position e.g,.. Q/a-w-d-s instead of Q/w-d-s-a Exercise #5 Calibrating @25-50% of revolution do a brief reverse tornado spin (Q/A) each revolution Exercise #6 Reverse Clock (Q/s-d-w-a) Exercise #7 Vertical - Horizontal nose raises/dips - Top left down (Q/w-a-d) - Bottom right top (Q/s-d-w) Exercise #8 Combos Q/w-s Q/a-d Do all exercises in a row If you can perform all exercises try doing them in some random order while flying around the field
As a KBM player, this method also has me seriously considering binding air roll left to my thumb mouse button and going through the tedious process of retraining my speed flips, half flips, and other recovery mechanics so I don't have to do the very unnatural feeling Q/A double presses
@@YandoMarsh If you haven't played for that long then do it sooner rather than later. I'm 4.5k hours in and I couldn't imagine changing my binds at this point.
@@YandoMarsh this is exactly how I'm going into it. After effectively having directional air roll unbound for years I've put it on my thumb mouse, and while it feels weird to have a directional input there it feels a lot more natural than Q.
Figured out my problem but it was actually a solution to a problem I knew that I would’ve had so I subconsciously locked myself out of it: I was refusing to use the tornado spin because Mr. spookluke taught me to only use the tornado spin so 2 months I said “forget about tornado spins figure the rest out” I’m an air roll god now. I just put 4 and 4 together and squared it
I dont understand how i go from not even understanding at how to air roll and then suddenly just to be able to lurn left and right and all the other combos feels amazing, this is the video ive been looking for this entire time :]
I rarely comment on videos, but I had to on this one. This is literaly one of the BEST videos I have ever seen. How does this only have 120 thousand views 7 months after being posted, is insane to me.
I’m a gc1 freestyler (who can obviously do this) but I still loved watching this to the end because of how well you explained the topic unlike some people ;) and I truly believe this was an amazing never before done style of video that the community needs more of
As a GC2-3 I could not think about a better way to get people into directional air-roll, most of the experienced people are biased about the learning curve and tell you "you just have to play"
Stumbled upon your video before bed and figured it'd be nice to fall asleep to. When you started talking about rhythm i was wide awake, and when you explained the clock I was out of bed. Needlessly to say it broke my brain as well as my sleep schedule as it is now past 6 am.. The crazy part is that I could ALREADY Air roll well enough to complete rings without letting go and you just revolutionized my aerial game nonetheless. Thanks so much Losfeld!
Hey, thanks for your comment. I'm glad I could be of some help. Nevertheless, keep in ming, clocks are just a clean example of a feedback loop, that makes you go straight while having feedback on your car. In no way is it "the real way to fly". They are just a nice way to learn about rhythm which you will need for reverse clocks, which is indeed, how you fly.
@@LosfeldRL Yeah I feel ya. I can't articulate exactly what clicked for me with your explanation but it did help me improve a ton. I think it was allowing me to lean into the feel after having spent countless hours practising kuxir twists, tornados and reverse etc. So I found out that using the clock technique can teach wall dashes. Forgive me for simplifying it, but all you need to do to wall dash is to flip into the wall fast enough: The problem is that you don't gain a lot of speed from doing it just once or twice but you also can't hold your stick towards the wall or you'll change direction, but a fast 'clock' stabilizes the car, from there it's just a matter of jumping when pointing the stick towards the wall.
HOLY SHIT THANK YOU SO FREAKING MUCH!!! I have watched so many directional air roll/aerial tutorials and NONE of them have helped me learn this mechanic! I have 1100 hours into the game and I still only use air roll to recover because no guides ever made any sense to me. The way you break down exactly what is going on with each and every input is so in-depth and easily digestible. Hella earned my sub, man!
Wow. This is actually the only REAL explanation of air roll mechanics. Literally every other video I've watched just says learn to fly at different angles and then just try spinning constantly with small inputs until your brain makes sense of it... lol. This is the only video that really went in depth into what different stick movements can do for you and how to learn them. Thank you. I literally just started learning air roll this week. I'll report back once I can finish a rings map.
Hey man! Thanks a lot for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and glad to hear that it could help you learn. Don't hesitate to report back or to ask questions as I try to answer as much as I can (If I can of course). I agree, and as I've said in the video, there are too many tutorials which say nothing interesting, relevant, correct or true. And that's a shame. Also, it's probably why RL is, as time goes by, getting closer and closer to a dead game. But that's how it is. Don't hesitate to ask questions here on on my streams if you can catch me, and report back in a few weeks to see how you've improved. Congratulations on getting this far, you can and you should be proud of yourself. This is a proof of your tenacity. Good job my man.
I can officially finish most of the rings maps :) definitely getting better quickly now... I have about an hour of completely free time every day at the end of work that I typically use for this, Dont tell my boss ;) . Now the holding boost the entire time part still feels impossible tho not gunna lie.. I'll need a lot more practice before I can have any control doing that. I think mostly what I'm doing is little micro adjustments and partial clocks and reverse clocks to adjust my vector. I still can't continuously do the clock (wobble) the entire time and maintain control. So this week I've been working on continuously doing the clock motion. Edit: Surprisingly I think the thing I've picked up on the most, is the reverse clock. I'm actually using the reverse clock in real matches to do quick vertical aerials and quick turns to the right (still not good at quick left turns for some reason lol)
That's great! If you find yourself "doing reverse clocks", it means that it's already part of your muscle memory, which is great. Keep doing the exercises like a robot, so that again, you "find yourself doing them" instinctively in games or rings maps . As for the clock, it's great that you master it little by little. It means you understand what rhythm is WITHIN the revolution tempo constant, AND that you start mastering the feeling you get too. Remember, when you have mastered it, you will choose to use it or not. That's true freedom. To know so well that you choose whether or not to use it. Just like music theory, learning within a specific frame will allow you to improvise, that is, to less around with the frame. True freedom that comes from knowledge and practical experience. Be proud of yourself. I,for one, am proud of you, friend. Don't hesitate to ask questions here or in my streams, I will gladly answer .
I'm champ 3. I can air dribble, flip reset, double reset decently and occasionally reset musty. But the idea that someone made a 2 and a half hour video on just directional air roll?? I had to check it out. Not disappointed. Hoping to learn something from this.
It is good to know that he used Air Roll Left in this video. For Air Roll Right users all motions are mirrored about the origin or center of the joystick. Up-Right in the video is down-left for DAR. Clockwise for DAL is Counter-Clockwise for DAR.
What the fuck is this magnum opus of a video and why haven't I seen it yet? I'm GC since a few seasons and struggled so hard learning how to properly use directional airroll. Oh if only this gem of a tutorial had been out there back then, you're doing gods work for people trying to make progress, goddamn.
even though everything has already been said, i want to also pay big respect to the maker(s) of this video. because this video definitely wasn’t made for money or fame. this video was made out of love… whether it be love for the game, love for your fellow teammates and opponents, or out of love for the incredible craft of deep study and analysis of an interesting topic. nevertheless, it was definitely made out of LOVE. and i appreciate every second that has been put into this video, and i appreciate every person who has a passion like this. thank you so much for this awesome analysis and presentation.

Rocket League is a beautiful game, and I never thought I could love it more. Until now...Thank you Losfeld! This is actually the fastest way to learn DAR. Been trying for months, maybe a year, and after watching for a couple days and training for about 2-3 hours using the method. I already feel good about my clock and feel. As a teacher myself, I appreciate the definitions (especially b/c your English is a bit different than ours in the U.S., especially for us on the West Coast) and logic behind your method. It truly ties it all together. Might start documenting my journey as a tribute to the method and a way to show others to stop watching the other videos, thank you Losfeld. Also, you're French! This is immaculate. Absolutely perfect and can be carried to more than just air roll or car football. So great seeing someone wanting to just give out information in a way that makes sense and can be used by anyone. Also love how it goes so far in depth on the mental side of the game or in learning air roll.
I'm an hour into this video (yes, I've watched every second up to this) and this has got to be, hands down, the best video I've ever watched explaining anything remotely near this mechanic... or rather anything in Rocket League. This is phenominal work; the intro, the narration, the hilarious constant shade thrown, and the entire thesis itself is 👌🤌. And as an audio engineer, thank you for explaining in musical terms... I think that alone helped me comprehend things on a level I hadn't before, and I realize now that I have been discovering the rhythm's in the game without even acknowledging it.
Vid popped up on my home page and I happened to be learning some directional stuff at the moment, as I can’t seem to leave D3. So I’m venturing into the car control aspect of the game lately. I’m 5 min in and I can tell I’m gonna watch this vid like 10 more times haha
Rocket League means so much to me, I've never tried to put it in words before. To see someone put this kind of passion, talent, experience, and pure love into teaching others and helping them feel the joy of the game brought real tears to my eyes. I've over ten thousand hours and I finally started to lose the spark. I thought I was going to have to say goodbye to my decade-long passion, as I've tried and failed so many times to get the hang of DAR. I'd already had the RL funeral pity party in my head. This video has relit the flame and it's like I've rediscovered the game. I believe this video and others that may follow have the potential to change a lot of lives for the better. No matter how many ranks I gain, just the feeling of finally understanding, of finally unlocking that untouchable core concept in my brain is such a valuable thing to me. I've never said it before but it's more than just a game to me. I've made so many lifelong friends and memories in this community, and the thought of giving up weighed so heavily on me. Thank you. You're a legend to me, my man.
Thank you for your comment, this one means a lot. Please, if YOU have a question, if you, for some reason, have trouble learning it, do join a stream and ask your questions away. I can't have you not learn DAR after having seen a comment like yours. Take it slow. Not all the exercices are easy to put into practice. Get the tempo down first with the first two exercises. You will learn feedback loops later, it's alright. See you on stream ;)
I’ve never felt compelled to comment on a video before but I just couldn’t help myself. This is by far the best rocket league training video I’ve ever seen! The detail and passion you put into this is unrivaled. I wish I would have found this 5 months ago but I’m beyond grateful for finally coming across it. You’re an absolute legend for taking your time to make this video.
Losfeld, it's 1am, and I have the gym in the morning. I've been up admiring the most exceptional tutorial video I've ever seen, fuelled by immense effort and a demonstration of remarkable ability and intelligence. I find you as impressive as the tutorial itself. Although your native language appears to be French, your command of English is truly remarkable. Your understanding and ability to explain theory are equally impressive. Despite your thorough and knowledgeable approach, you present yourself with admirable modesty. Thank you for your valuable contribution to the game amidst the challenge posed by opportunistic exploiters who prioritise personal gain over genuinely assisting the fanbase. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. You deserve far more subscribers and I'd love to see you continue to create content. I think you're a breath of fresh air.
Jacob, your comment not only is the most flattering so far, it's also the most heart warming. Thank you for it. We are glad you enjoyed our video, very, very glad indeed. It makes me happy to see that some people see all the work under it and watch as much the information we share as much as the form in which we shared it. I will never make another video like this one again. But I might make short videos about things like a wall to air dribble setup and reset, double reset and musty setup, but those videos will barely if not be edited and will last 5 to 10 minutes. I think it's better that we remain a shooting star, rather than a giant sun that loses quality with each video, which many people do. I am sure you can understand that. This, is our masterpiece, and we will never top it. And personally, I'm fine with that. We don't forget the shooting star we saw, but we do take for granted the sun that shines everyday. Let us be elapsing ; so that people remember us for that one good thing we did for them. Thank you again for your comment, it means a hell lot. I am sending it to Simon, my great friend, who edited it with me. I'm sure it will also warm his heart. Good luck on your journey, don't hesitate to ask questions during my live streams on youtube or twitch, know that you can also send me a 2 to 5 min air roll clip on a rings map via my discord (which is posted during lives) and if you're on the live, we can review it together. Much love, Simon and Losfeld.
@@LosfeldRL Your analogy about the shooting star was brilliant and yet another insight into a wonderful mind! I share your perspective, and I appreciate how rare it is to find such quality content on RUclips nowadays. Please don't take this as an imposition, but I think that you both have a lot of potential and talent as a content creator, regardless of the topic or the scale of your videos. I urge you to keep making content as you restore the integrity and value that this platform deserves. I look forward to watching your future live videos and I have enabled the notifications. By the way, I posted your video on the RL subreddit and it received a lot of positive feedback in less than 12 hours, with over 100 shares. I wish you both all the best 👍
I answered a few comments on reddit. Obviously, the know it all nature of this social media had some very ungrateful and incorrect things to say about it. What a shame, really...@@MrJaywalk
You had me when comparing it to skateboarding. I've always explained it to people that way. Pure skill and lots and lots of muscle memory from endless repetitions
I hit my first 3 touch dribble right after finishing this video. After doing each exercise . Then i carry the damn ball across the field while rolling for the first time EVER. You are the best for making this video
Literally THE greatest, most informative, most genuine RL video I have ever watched. I’ve practiced DAR L for so long watching so many “tutorials” and got no where. An hour into this I hit my first 4 touch full DAR aerial. Crazy bro.
I was both intrigued and terrified when I saw "thesis" in the title, If it was anything remotely similar to my thesis I would've torched my PC. Suffice it to say that it was not, you made it both incredibly informative and entertaining. And what is a thesis without 25% of the content analyzing previous research in the field (AKA shitting on the peasants)!
Also, I subscribed - not to say that's some kind of a grand action requiring a reward. But not not saying it either, so you better start making 10 minute clips teasing how you'll teach me speed-flipping in the next 10 minute video.
This is the best RL video I've ever watched. I downloaded the audio and listened at work and watched it when I got home and started practicing. I have tried this mechanic blind and could not do anything with it with zero understanding of what is happening or supposed to happen. Other videos make it seem easy and that I'm dumb for not getting it, but this mechanic is way more complicated than I thought. With this guide, it feels attainable. I intend to do the 30 minutes of practice per day for a month and we will see where we are. Day 1: just a dying fish flopping around in the air.
I switched from KBM to controller today and i WILL learn airroll left. I have never used controller for rocket league before. Recording my progress here: Day 1: just set up controller binds and learning basics again. Played some games and free play. I also practiced half flips. I am now going to practice some drills for airroll left from this video. Day 2: did all training exercises. I stuck with it. My favourite part was experimenting at the end. I didn't do that yesterday as i was overwhelmed, but Im enjoying that part the most now. Day 3 and 4: getting more comfortable flying around the field. I know how to turn around in air now. Will continue doing exercises every day Day 7? (26 feb) Starting to make huge improvement. Can make feedback loops whilst doing rings. No reverse clocks in rings yet . Need to train that more in training. 8th march: i forgot to update this but i can airroll through rings map pretty easily. I use reverse clocks a lot now. I started learning air drivbles and can do it INCONSISTENTLY from left wall. It didnt take long at all to be good at rings but air dribbling is another skill, but im seeing improvement every day. The exercises definitely help. Even if u dont think they make sense, stick with them, and then once your good at exercise 2 do rings maps. Im now working towards increasing ball control with airroll left.
@@LosfeldRL yes but it's less intuitive and people recommended to switch. What do u think? I have like 300 h in kbm is it worth it . Basically I think my skill ceiling will be higher so it may be better long term.
@@Yesnomaybeso1001I believe what limits kbm is the mouse. So many inputs yet you bind almost all of them to left hand and only 2 to the right one? Wtf... I use arrows and my pinky reaches num pad, which is perfect for ball cam and camera up/ down.
@@MrPinkDino personally I always had issues with the fact that it's harder to get precise angles. Also having 360 degrees is just way more intuitive for learning airroll. I've played with controller for 2 days and a lot of skills transferred over already. I think the switch will be worth it because ~200 hours is nothing in this game. We shall see!
Hey man, thanks for your comment :) I don't think I overcomplicated it, I think I managed to put into words, discover and organized, how a complicated thing works :)
Tornado Spin into Reverse Tornado Spin at each revolution phase 1 - 1 input down 1 input up at each revolution phase 2 - hold input for half of revolution at each revolution phase 3 - hold input for every revolution clocks - 1 clock per revolution double clocks - 2 clocks per revolution lock and clock - up right lock and clock - down right lock and clock - up lock and clock - down calibrate - reverse tornado spin when between 25-50% revolution reverse clock - down right up left - slowly reverse clock - down right up left - faster reverse clock - up left down right - slowly reverse clock - up left down right - faster add other combos up and down x2 every revolution left and right x2 every revolution up right down right x2 every revolution

Can’t put into words how crazy this video is, I don’t even comment on vids but this video goes deeper than rocket league, you’ve given me a new perspective on life, it took me 56 hours with your method to learn air roll, well done to you bro
@@josephmarrero1835 Thank you for your comment :) We tried to see things in a different yet truer way, I'm glad you enjoyed it, some people didn't. 56h is half the average amount it would have taken you to learn DAR by yourself, so I'm glad our method could work out for you. Take care and go train ;)
Hey Losfeld, thank you very very very much for your effort. Thats truly amazing. I'm really looking forward to hop into your lessons especially the training drills. I play rocket league for relaxation (kinda crazy). Playing ranked and even casual can be frustrating at times due to toxicity and stuff, so get a little brain twist on a rings map in the evening seems perfect. All the best from a german neighbour.
Hey! Thanks a lot for your comment ! Yeah, I play RL to chill nowadays, barely get in games, just freeplay and rings maps. The game is dying, if not dead. Thanks for your compliments, I did try my best to deliver those lines ; I hope you enjoyed the intro voice too, it's my favourite to doo :) I'll see you in a month, take your time, all good things come with patience, this is the hardest thing you'll have to learn in RL, so don't get too frustrated, it's meaningless, you will get it, at some point, if you keep on working on it. Thanks again for your comment and see you in a month, neighbour !

@@Zoro92302 Great clocks dude! Perfect! I think it's great that you implement them right at the beginning of your learning. Usually I teach people to fly just like the exercice 2,with up and down inputs, but I think the sooner you make feedback loops, the better. Keep going at it, you WILL get to a point where you're frustrated, but as I say at the end, it is part of it all,and after the frustration comes the deeply founded compréhension of it all. i have over 1000 hours and never learned DAR. With your video and only a couple days of practice I am beginning to pass ring levels and feel my car more. tysm!!!!
this video has been present as a thesis so I would like to give my full critique, in the order they come up in the video. this includes what I found good and bad, and all in all I think this was a very well made and interesting video: - the into is absolutely spectacular - your ideas about absolutely requiring directional air roll to be good at the game are incorrect. nobody used it until around 2018-2019, many old players still dont (myself included). however you are absolutely right that it helps, which is why it is so widely used at the pro level now. despite this, I can hit a quad reset in training, ive scored double mustys and triple resets freestyling in casuals, passing plays are totally doable and I have held grand champ as a rank for years. it is not a necessity to do those things. - how people learn varies massively from person to person. I am a coach who works a lot on fiverr and am very familiar with this. many people struggle to put their own learning experiences into words, let alone other peoples. this isnt just people not wanting you to learn, although I do agree that there is an issue with some people making bad tutorials and remaking the same content on youtube. you are kind of making broad sweeping assumptions about massive portions of the community that I think are unwarranted. - rocket league absolutely does have an issue with tutorials and should support more learning for movement this is an amazing point I totally agree - rocket league was not designed to be an esport. when it was released nobody expected it to get as popular as it is. it was designed like this because the devs thought it would be a fun game. you can see this from statements the devs have made, which I only know about because I study game development so its quite relevant to me. - similarly, the developers have always known that the most fun way to get into rocket league is with a group of friends. It is a party game, and at the start every single person is bad at it because there are no transferable skills from other games. that has been how rocket league has thrived, as a party game not a competitive one. the competitive scene is a very loud minority that takes up most of the youtube space, but not most of the player base. casuals has always been the most popular gamemode, and the key to keeping rocket league popular has more to do with not gutting the development team and not removing well loved features such as trading, and keeping the esports scene enjoyable to watch. (however again, I think that the lack of good tutorials absolutely are and issue and would definitely help attract and maintain more players as you said earlier. I would just point to these things first as larger issues. I also agree that this would help rocket league rise to the potential it has to be far bigger than it is currently) - there is what I think is a general fundamental misunderstanding of teaching in this video. there is too much talk about an objective correct way to teach things, and a lack of appreciation for the fact that people learn very differently. some people will wrap their heads around a wordy explanation extremely quickly and be able to use that to translate stuff into their gameplay much faster. however, others cannot do this because they wont process the words as well and need to see or experience things to properly understanding them, simply because the words cannot hold their attention the same way and focus will be lost on a large paragraph. I believe your explanation here will really help a portion of people understanding the game, and you execute what you're trying to do extremely well, but I would like to draw attention to the fact that a 2 hour video lecture simply will not help a lot of people. - your point about the clock and small adjustments is spectacular lol, and while I think theres some lack of understanding about how the game handles inputs and that made it a bit wordier than it needed to be, it is an incredible point and a brilliant learning tool. I will be stealing this for my own coaching when someone asks to learn directional air roll again. - your point about calibrating is also great and clearly explained. - in general your method is very good conceptually and builds on itself in a way that makes it very good to teach to people. I think that is certainly a success on your part, but it may benefit from having a shorter more digestible video with less fluff purely to popularise it. - there are very high level players with very little mechanics, for example a friend of mine who can barely do a flip reset (aka not well enough to play in games under pressure or setting it up quickly but still good enough to do in freeplay) who reached gc 2, and who just play smart positionally to get there. - your exercises are all very interesting and I think very useful for people. additionally something else I want to say - you have at no point mentioned a very important thing that I think is extremely important for high level ariel control. the single most important adjustment when you are air rolling is letting go of air roll. without this knowledge a lot of people are going to build bad habits, and it is something I notice in a lot of your own clips in this video. releasing air roll for adjustments is extremely important, and all high level players will do this throughout their plays. this is especially prevalent in your setups for ground to air plays, where you often start air rolling too early and and get a poor take off because of it. without emphasising this point you are likely to encourage one of the largest limiting factors for many mid level players ariel control in my experience as a coach, which is just holding down air roll too much and losing precision and control because of it. all in all I think this was an excellent video, and the core of your ideas are all very good. a lot of these points are presentation focused (though not all of them) and I think you have made an incredible resource for people to use, so good job lol
i'm one of those portion of players that you mentioned, that is benefitting from the overly-wordy explanation. I agree that it's a bit too over-explained in some areas, but I personally appreciated it. I do agree with you though that it's not a great format for a hit video - this definitely needs simplified and chopped up into little tik-tok bits for each element of the method to popularize it. as you said there's something to this method as a teaching tool and the guy is entertaining as well lol. I'm not very experienced in air rolling and feel like this video unlocked something for me. With that being said, I appreciate your criticisms bringing some balance to my now high-flying ego. The point about remembering to STOP air-rolling is especially sobering so I'll be keeping that in mind as I train. 10/10 comment
Pretty poor critique tbh. First it mostly focus on things that are in no way presented in the thesis as claims or are misrepresented. Otherwise the potential valid criticised points are offered no correction or additional information. They are made in the format of "this is wrong" period, as on the "lack of understanding of how the game ahndles inputs". For other cases, if anything, you offer anecdotal evidence which has little validity in a serious critique. Then there are plainly wrong things, like not mentioning stopping to air roll, which is indeed mentioned in the video. Overall a very bad critique of a fantastic video which I felt has enough of jest in it to be taken to the level you are trying to take.
I recently got back into rocket league after about a year. Every time I play rocket league I look up "how to air roll" tutorials where they are vague and don't ACTUALLY tell you how to do it (I may have watched Spookluke's once). I watched your video whole way through and I can definitely see how in-depth you went. I'm still struggling with calibrating and reverse clocks (its my first day), but I can already tell I am much further along learning through your video than any other of these "tutorials". Thank you sir for this masterpiece.
@@bruno_240z Thanks for your comment and you're welcome :) Don't bother about calibrating, they're mostly an introduction to reverse clock. Take your time, learn the tempo and then the rhythm. Ask me questions on discord or on a stream, I'll gladly try to answer if I know the answer
Hey Man so thankful, I've been trying to actually enjoy the game but without air roll it seemed pointless. But thanks to you I'm steadily improving and seeing positive results in my overall aerial capabilities. Thank you so much 👍. You deserve a million subs 😁
What skill level would you say this thesis is most beneficial for? As a C1, who only got there by gamesense and 0 mechanics, I got a bit lost around the clock section and felt like it was still a bit outside of my skill range when I tried to replicate the advice in game. Also, just want to say, this is an incredible production and deserves a million views. You should be proud.
From beginner to advanced. The exercises are also put in difficulty order. You won't get them instantly, it takes a bit of time. The method isn't magical, but if you work, it kinda will be. I am proud indeed :) Thank you for your comment
Quite the opposite here. High mechanics diamond. Still blame playing on WiFi as my problem bc I average 130ms and play against an average of 55ms. Recently found a consistent reset method, now looking for ways to improve it as a setup. I don't personally clock (small amounts of slightly larger adjustments can give just as much feedback, but I have my own air rolling rhythm/I don't hold the arl or arr buttons). Personally.. I'd say it's less about rocket league in specific and more about gaming skill as a whole. You do these same inputs all the time in high level shooters, speedrun games and platformers. In general - i'd say you should be skilled enough to confidently not get confused by the simpler stuff (i.e. single inputs and short combos) and slowly work your way up. Quickscoping is a very similar skill to a flip reset. Dodging boss attacks in a platformer or rouguelite/soulslike is very similar to airdribbling. I could honestly write my own thesis about the game as a whole, though I have probably another thousand hours before I'm truly mechanically consistent.
I'm currently diamond trying to learn from this video. There were also a few sections that I found really confusing on my first few watch-throughs; what's been helping is just watching different chunks of the video over and over again as I get more used to air rolling (first watch through I roughly got the concept of the clock but trying to watch the section on the reverse-clock/combos was way too confusing, so I stopped and just worked on clocking/locking for a few days. Now that I've gotten more used to clocking, I've started practicing the reverse clock combos). Feels like its been going pretty well, hope this helps.
Its only 10 minutes of the video and i already can say its better than the most 2022-2024 films, honestly, i never could think about some video from rl community would be so impressing, helpfull, and funny sometimes, thats actually gold, emerald, peak youtube, i cabt choose the words to describe what i thinking rn, my fav youtube video so far
Currently brute forcing my brain. A few hours on rings and freeplay and I'm getting there. Using it on random training packs helps and using both air rolls too (why not). Amazing tutorial. Day two for me so will update soon... ! -Edit Not using clocks so much as depending on the front face rotation and making micro adjustments/ turns. Got to 'Level 5' on Neon Heights so far, constant spin, feathered boost. Can turn and correct mistakes. 3 days so far.

That intro was crazy. The fact this video is 2 hours is crazier
This is Rocket League!
And yeah, we're proud of that intro, it took us 50 hours :)
Thanks again,friend.
Don't hesitate to ask your questions on my streams by the way, I usually take the time to answer them.
@@ragegaze3482i peaked 1950 and this is so accurate bro like my friend just told me to hold air roll left and spin my joystick until it felt right
And eventually I got it 🤣

I'm gonna fall asleep before getting through this but that's the best RUclips intro I've ever seen

I've pretty much mastered air roll but I still sat through the entire video because it was refreshing to see someone actually explain how to air roll and on top of that I still learned new techniques
I'm in the same boat, I always wondered why I would naturally still have inputs when I wasn't turning but I was just clocking without even knowing
How did u learn I’m on ps5 and struggling
Wtf is this masterpiece

Why thank you :)
Locking and clocking is what
@FLuuMP. You still playing RL bro. I haven’t seen you too active on RUclips

Well done.
Thanks man :)
after about 10-15 hours of practice i was able to consistently beat the neon rings map. thanks for keeping it real.. best rocket league video of all time.
Good job man ! Keep going at it !
were you focusing on the micro adjustments or just playing and letting it come to you naturally
Lots of comments about the method, but can we stop for a second and admire that intro? LMAO I loved it!
Yeah, I'm really proud of it all, the voice, the mixing, the colouring, and especially the editing : if you look and listen carefully, the music and video go together quite perfectly! 50h just for that !

The only reason I watched 2 hours of this was the intro and I am gc1. That was the best rl cinematic I have seen for the last 2 years. Knowledge delivery was impeccable too. @@dmax1 Thank you so much for your comment. And yes, theoretically DAR works in other video games as well as real life, there is no reason it couldn't !

Unfortunately, I won't ever give that much time again for this game, at least not freely.
Thanks a lot for your comment :)
I don't know about legend, but I'd like people to understand that this video is unique.
This video gave me, a 2.7k hours air roll right GC, enough motivation to finally learn air roll left!! Hopefully I will learn quickly thanks to the explanations and exercises in the video. My journey starts on the 19th of February 2024!
Thanks :) But if you already use DAR, why would you learn the other one, you don't need it !
@LosfeldRL going off the wall with air roll left will be faster than right on the right wall when going for a reset, or just to flex
@@LosfeldRLit axtually starts to matter more in the pro scene, but
When you want to position your car (for example to the ball or to the 50) in a certain way and where is hood/ wheels facing matters, you may need to do this the fastest way possible so you can't wait for tge full revolution.
Yes, you can just learn small single movements separately from air roll, and this should be enough
Until you need to immidiately follow those movements up with dar flying.
Thanks mate
Keep going at it !
“Lock it and Clock it” might be the single most useful thing I’ve ever heard in a RUclips video
But remember, this is not how you actually turn. I just showed it to tell people they should use feeling inputs when not using directional inputs.

99% of the tutorials are shit.

If you are a KBM player then this is how you would perform the exercises by their key presses:
You WILL need to watch his video to understand what the exercises are and how to do them. This is literally just the key presses on KBM
Exercise #1 tornado spin (Q/D) into reverse tornado spin (Q/A) at each revolution (should go straight)
Exercise #2 go vertical, tap boost, perform phases 1-3.
Phase 1 tap one quick input of pitch up (s) and one quick input of pitch down (w) at the beginning of every other revolution (one rev s, 2nd rev w)
Phase 2 hold the inputs from phase 1 for one-half the revolution
Phase 3 hold the inputs from phase 1 for one whole revolution
Exercise #3 Clocks - Single then Double x2 (Q/w-d-s-a)
Exercise #4 Lock-and-clock i.e,.. Jump, begin clock from a non-standard position e.g,.. Q/a-w-d-s instead of Q/w-d-s-a
Exercise #5 Calibrating @25-50% of revolution do a brief reverse tornado spin (Q/A) each revolution
Exercise #6 Reverse Clock (Q/s-d-w-a)
Exercise #7 Vertical - Horizontal nose raises/dips - Top left down (Q/w-a-d) - Bottom right top (Q/s-d-w)
Exercise #8 Combos Q/w-s Q/a-d
Do all exercises in a row
If you can perform all exercises try doing them in some random order while flying around the field
So true, it's like a weird form of gatekeeping, not enough people are genuinely interested in helping others get to their own skill level.
I regret watching other 8-10 mins tutorials and this 2 hr tutorial did the job, you're a LEGEND. I'm a sub now.
Thanks a lot man :)

WTF I'm imagining some Michael Caine British guy. Can't wait to join your English streams
Thank you so much for your comment, Il glad you enjoyed it :)
I usually take a US accent in my RUclips streams ;)
Simply the best Directional Air Roll video out there. Professionally made and explained the mechanic in detail so everyone can understand (and alot of puns, haha). This format is amazing, I wish there were more videos like this. And the intro is fireeeeee, crazy quality my man! I don't understand how can this video have only 8.5k views at the time I'm writing this comment. I literally understood the air roll almost instantly, now just gotta practice. Absolutely golden, thanks for keepin' it accessible and free!
Hey, thanks a lot for your comment :)
I'm glad you could find it helpful, we put a lot of heart in it.
Hopefully it will get more views as tile goes by.
Thank you again and train well :)
This is immaculate. Absolutely perfect and can be carried to more than just air roll or car football. So great seeing someone wanting to just give out information in a way that makes sense and can be used by anyone. Also love how it goes so far in depth on the mental side of the game or in learning air roll.
Glad you enjoyed it ! Thanks for the kind words :)
Glad you like it so far :)
After seeing your video, I improved so much in 1 week, it's unreal.
Thank you bro
You're most welcome,I'm glad I could help! Keep going at it!
Vid popped up on my home page and I happened to be learning some directional stuff at the moment, as I can’t seem to leave D3. So I’m venturing into the car control aspect of the game lately. I’m 5 min in and I can tell I’m gonna watch this vid like 10 more times haha
This video is hands down the best and most educating masterpiece you can look up on youtube for "how to directional air-roll". Thank you a lot Sir!
Thank you ! Yep, we aimed big, unlike 99% of the "tutorials" out there
Rocket League means so much to me, I've never tried to put it in words before.
Thanks a lot for your comment, it dies mean a lot :)
Much love,

Haha thank you ! I'm glad you enjoyed it ! Ain't no good video without shitting on all the clickbaits ! Glad you enjoyed it mate;)
Day 10 : You can air roll. Not very well yet, but you can. And you can do rings map.
I switched from KBM to controller today and i WILL learn airroll left. I have never used controller for rocket league before.
Recording my progress here:
Day 1: just set up controller binds and learning basics again.
Will continue doing exercises every day
Day 7? (26 feb)
Starting to make huge improvement.
You do know you can DAR with kbm right? The theory stays the same
@@LosfeldRL yes but it's less intuitive and people recommended to switch.
@@MrPinkDino I`ve binded air roll right and left to the thumb buttons on the mouse, I never use regular air roll.
Holy moly. you've overcomplicated the hell out of this.... AND WE LOVE IT ! 👍
Hey man, thanks for your comment :) I don't think I overcomplicated it, I think I managed to put into words, discover and organized, how a complicated thing works :)

@@Tipzzey you're welcome ;)
that intro is absolutely crazy
this video has been present as a thesis so I would like to give my full critique, in the order they come up in the video. this includes what I found good and bad, and all in all I think this was a very well made and interesting video:
- the into is absolutely spectacular
- your ideas about absolutely requiring directional air roll to be good at the game are incorrect. nobody used it until around 2018-2019, many old players still dont (myself included). however you are absolutely right that it helps, which is why it is so widely used at the pro level now. despite this, I can hit a quad reset in training, ive scored double mustys and triple resets freestyling in casuals, passing plays are totally doable and I have held grand champ as a rank for years. it is not a necessity to do those things.
- rocket league absolutely does have an issue with tutorials and should support more learning for movement this is an amazing point I totally agree
- rocket league was not designed to be an esport. when it was released nobody expected it to get as popular as it is. it was designed like this because the devs thought it would be a fun game. you can see this from statements the devs have made, which I only know about because I study game development so its quite relevant to me.
I also agree that this would help rocket league rise to the potential it has to be far bigger than it is currently)
- there is what I think is a general fundamental misunderstanding of teaching in this video. there is too much talk about an objective correct way to teach things, and a lack of appreciation for the fact that people learn very differently. some people will wrap their heads around a wordy explanation extremely quickly and be able to use that to translate stuff into their gameplay much faster. however, others cannot do this because they wont process the words as well and need to see or experience things to properly understanding them, simply because the words cannot hold their attention the same way and focus will be lost on a large paragraph.
- your exercises are all very interesting and I think very useful for people.
additionally something else I want to say
- you have at no point mentioned a very important thing that I think is extremely important for high level ariel control. the single most important adjustment when you are air rolling is letting go of air roll. without this knowledge a lot of people are going to build bad habits, and it is something I notice in a lot of your own clips in this video. releasing air roll for adjustments is extremely important, and all high level players will do this throughout their plays. this is especially prevalent in your setups for ground to air plays, where you often start air rolling too early and and get a poor take off because of it. without emphasising this point you are likely to encourage one of the largest limiting factors for many mid level players ariel control in my experience as a coach, which is just holding down air roll too much and losing precision and control because of it.
all in all I think this was an excellent video, and the core of your ideas are all very good. a lot of these points are presentation focused (though not all of them) and I think you have made an incredible resource for people to use, so good job lol
i'm one of those portion of players that you mentioned, that is benefitting from the overly-wordy explanation.
I didn't expect to get emotional at the end.
If we managed to make you feel close to us, we consider that a victory.

Don't bother about calibrating, they're mostly an introduction to reverse clock.
Take your time, learn the tempo and then the rhythm.

This is very useful but everytime I try to learn directional air roll I just want to uninstall game
SpookLuke has been Eliminated.
