In general the pop music in the states was absolute crap in the 1970s as well. People forget because most of those top 40 songs are long forgotten. The great AOR rock of that era is still listened to today. Band-Maid is making music that will be appreciated decades from now. I hope they get proper recognition for it while they are still in their prime.
this is one of my favorite because of the weird riff i love it so much ..band maid putting different spices in music i can say this song be my No. 1...im hands down to this ladies, i hope well have recognition to the world, music its best...\m/isa!!!
Thanks for a great reaction. This is such an under-rated song, probably in part due to this live performance not being made officially available. I wish they would do that, certainly for all the performances where the song has been changed or extended in some way, such as Kanami's lovely intro in this case. If you can find it, Anemone (off the same album) has an interesting song structure too.
I think it would sound awesome if Band-Maid did "Awkward" as an acoustic! "Matchless Gum" next, please!!!!👍👍🤘🤘🤘
There's actually an acoustic set of Awkward and YOLO, with a music box intro, really cool if you can find it on internet it's worth listening

This live version really showcases the subtleties of this song. The Studio Coast concert has the best sound of any of their live recordings, with the ZEPP show coming in a close second. They are both high-tech venues that have the ability to produce studio quality recordings.

I found this video of a performance in Spain in 2016. ruclips.net/video/rebSwgxl4rM/видео.html At 27:11 they do introductions of themselves. I finally can hear how they pronounce their own names in their own voices. Dorian gives a detailed list of the songs in his comments including times; the concert lasted an hour. Just thought you might be interested.
I really enjoy your breakdowns Dude. I mostly listen to Band-Maid on spotify at work. So, I've heard the whole catalog, but, my good headphones are at home. I really enjoy bass lines and song "flow" as a whole. You point out all the little "bells and whistles" that I usually don't get to hear through casual listening. Great Job! Thank you 👍.
The only thing Awkward is why Band-Maid isn't a household name by now, imo. But I know they eventually will be known to the worldwide mainstream markets.

Best rock band? Yes I will agree. Whether they are the biggest name in the world i don't know. But they will go down in history as some of the best. Like most artists, they're not fully appropriated or known til long after their time.

They have 36 video's on their RUclips channel, but that only tells part of the story. The have soooo many cool songs that aren't represented on their channel, which is hard to believe, but understandable because they are so prolific. For me, personally, 85% of songs they have recorded is great and beyond. And going back to being prolific..... only motherhood will slow them down, coz from what I can tell on the information that's out there is that they are are very tight band... great friends, sisters, so to speak. As for the recognition that you speak of.... I do agree with you, and I hope so.....only time will tell.

@paco acosta I'm still waiting on the new CD. I want to get Different too. What is the new DVD? I missed that. I'm not going to order anything more until Unseen World gets here. I have it ordered both from the Band Maid site and Amazon and neither one has shown up yet. $138 US $ plus shipping and nothing to show for it. I'm beginning to get a little upset because they've both been ordered a while ago now. I always like the hard copy too and will not download the digital copies as the sound quality isn't as good.

Agree with you, a fantastic song, one of their more underrated ones. That drum roll into Kanami's solo, and then the solo itself--which is too short, of course...wow. And as far as their place in history? I think Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nightwish are the best bands founded after 1975. In between is basically a fucking desert.
One of their 'softer' songs, and as always they smash it out of the park. Sultry vocals, groovy rhythms and g-r-e-a-t- riffs! Thanks MP, I've missed this song! :)
One of the best writen ballads of this century. Tons of talent here. We are used to these five girls composing hit after hit, but the way they make their absolutely cross-cultural music flow is amazing. Nobody composes music like this today and it deserves to last over time. This song was played at Shinkiba Studio Coast right between Matchless Gum and Daydreaming. Unbelievable. The level reached by the band, already in 2017, is totally out of the charts.
"Fantastic songwriting" is absolutely what this is. As with so many Band-Maid songs the detail, construction, carefully building and releasing tension, etc. Kanami's two solo sections are incredible.
This alongside Daydreaming & Anemone are my Top 3 BM Ballads. Even for Kanami, these imo are among the finest she’s written till date.
And the solos on these are the perfect icing on the cake. Especially the outro solo here and the solo on Daydreaming are easily among the most emotional and beautiful guitar solos in my books. Just so well crafted, memorable and in-sync with the overall vibe of the song.
I’ve heard them countless times by now but they still manage to get me in the feels everytime.
This is the kind of stuff that got me addicted to instrumentals and the main reason why Rock/Metal is still my fav genre of music.
There’s just something special when raw instruments convey so much, without the need for words.
I love this song because it feels like you are in Kanami's song writing playground. Next song for the change of pace, I would recommend "Glory". Another hidden gem which needs more people to discover and be happy they did :-)

Discovered this band last year during Covid lockdown. Can't remember the order, but I remember hearing Yolo, Daydreaming, and Awkward live in fairly rapid succession. And I knew I was hooked, hard. Months later and it still hasn't let up. The songwriting still blows me away.
I told you before, "Turn Me On", "Take Me Higher" and "Awkward" are my Band-Maid Holy Trinity"👌 The two first are very similar but "Awkward" is completely different,
Kanami uses a PRS guitar and Mesa Boogie ( triple rectifier the most powerful there is) amp like Carlos Santana her favourite guitarist. She also has a huge pedal board with approx 10 effects pedals. She is highly technically adapt with a very good understanding off the tech side of things.

& i love WonderLand too, i wish they have more slow music but jazzy & complex rock music

You had no idea where the first song you heard from Band-Maid would lead you to. Me neither. None of us did. Puzzle, Awkward, and Cross are masterpieces. Well, some of their masterpieces.
Maid ballads are never boring. Still have the infectious groove and instrumental part is still great.
It seems to me that MISA was involved in the arrangements and composition of this song if I remember correctly.
"Blinded by the light" I felt that way the first time I listened to this version.😲
You have a great ear, you clearly pick up on a lot of what is going on, but you are struggling to put words to it. Can I suggest you watch a couple of very technical reactors who do a good job of dissecting songs and explaining what they are hearing? I suggest Chase Carneson and Guitar Gent. They are accomplished musicians themselves and know all the terminology. Enjoying your reactions, keep going!
