He is a true American hero who saved countless lives during a horrific event that could have been so much worse if not for Eli's courage, preparedness and willingness to protect others. Because we want to respect the ongoing criminal investigation by the Greenwood Police Department and take time to honor the three innocent lives lost, we won't be making any substantive comments on Sunday's events until after the authorities' investigation is closed. I think it’s also worth noting that while the hero stopped the shooter 15 seconds from the initial shot, he also took 10 shots, hitting 8 from 40 yards away while closing the gap and calling for citizens to get behind him.
This 22 year old hit 8 of 10 at 40 yards, under duress and fire. That’s one hell of a feat and gives credence to training at a distance.
Further, there seem to be reports of the initial victim also carrying a firearm but was unable to use it as he was murdered in surprise by the active shooter. This just means that while my heart goes out to all the victims, it’s ever so much more important for more law abiding citizens to carry because sometimes, one may be given enough time to react while others are not so lucky.

Same here. My biggest question is, is there any messed up law that says a legal gun owner is “obligated” to intercede? Because I’m not. If an active shooter isn’t shooting at me, I’m running. I’m not risking my freedoms for someone else’s safety, I didn’t sign up to do so and I don’t get “qualified immunity” for it.
And it’s not that I don’t care about other people’s safety, but my safety is my priority. And too many good people get prosecuted for doing the right thing. Lawfully owning and morally using a gun is a scary thing in today’s world.

And liberals think the cops cowardice disproves the good guy with a gun argument. All it does is prove that we conservatives are correct when we state all the guns should not be left to the government because the government does not have the best interest of American citizens. That's why I recently got a semi automatic shotgun it's a lot more destructive than an AR-15 any intruder in my home isn't going home. But I cut my finger pretty bad so shooting my shotgun would definitely open up the wound and make it bleed a lot. Good thing I have a semi automatic 22. No recoil to worry about.

Well when it isn't legally in someone's best interest to carry yeah I don't blame them. Because they might be legally allowed to and that they could get criminally charged for taking out that threat or they could get off criminally and then the family can come after them and civilly be liable before killing the perpetrator. For example I like out in Arizona if you killed the perpetrator you would not be civilly or criminally liable for it. but these laws suck in most other states.

I think any responsible, mentally stable American adult without a history of violent offenses should carry

This young man must have had training. Sprung into action and hit his target. He's a hero.

No formal training. From what I've seen in local news, his grandfather taught him how to shoot.

You’re right about knowing the law. As of July this year indiana became a constitutional carry state.

We frequent the Greenwood Park Mall and this is the same entrance we use EVERY time. It's a shame that some media outlets are more focused on the HERO carrying in a gun-free zone.

That young man's parents get to be proud of him rather than having to mourn because of losing him.

This is why I always conceal carry a larger, more capable handgun when I plan on going to gun free zones. Fantastic job by the citizen🇺🇸

Very brave young man and definitely a hero. I’m happy to hear that law enforcement hailed this man a hero. One thing the officer said is lawful gun owner. I’m genuinely curious as to how the officer would act had the hero been unlawfully carrying that gun that stopped the gunman. Only curious because even a thug can save lives.

Most thugs would high tail out of the place. Which is why they are thugs. They don’t care for the well being of others, which is why they dedicate themselves to robbery and other nefarious acts.

2:36 is there an easy to read map or list for this. I might be using the wrong key words but I think it is the same way in Oklahoma if I am reading it correctly

So, I would like to know if the owners of the mall plan to keep it a 'gun-free zone' or if they will now support law-abiding armed citizens at their mall? (Did they learn anything from this?)

😂 They learned from it. They will now post twice as many signs forbidding guns

Good thing this young guy decided to react to what was happening.. With that being said.. It's a split second decision to decide to take a life. He will need time to process all that happened and I hope he can get through it .. Taking a life is never easy , especially when seconds count..
God bless and be watchful. These are crazy times..

Excellent response and execution by the young man. He definitely saved lives. He put his life at risk, not only could he have been shot by the shooter, the police could have mistaken him for the bad guy and shot him.

This is just one of the reasons that I’ve spent my life an Indiana citizen. That man’s action makes us all very proud of him.
