Welcome to North Dakota. Have lived here for 61 years, This winter has been unusually warm and comfortable for us hunters of all types and ages. Life is good.

Great video and I didn't mind the camera approach. I like the over the shoulder view and it seemed to pick up the deer fine while in the tree. I appreciate the "real world"public land, late season videos and I think it's definitely helpful as it can be a tough time of year to hunt. It's encouraging to me to see someone as knowledgable as you experience some of the same challenges such as high visibility and noise that can surround late season especially for those weekend warriors who can't pick their days to hunt. Thanks for sharing!!!
What a great video. I learn more from your videos than any of the online articles I read - they seem to be tailored mostly toward private land hunters. As a new bowhunter on public land, I'm finding that's a totally different story. It's also awesome to have just finished hunting late season public land and compare my experiences that are fresh in my mind to your experiences. Keep em coming!
I really like the use of the 360 camera!
Few things. Get the footage of the hunt (kill or not) by what ever means allows you as a hunter to be able to hunt the way you’d like. It’s so much work as it is without filming, we’re happy to tag along any way you can capture it. Another point. You taking the time to break it all down to educate is awesome so long as you don’t feel the need to constantly justify your actions. We know you’re awesome in what you do, don’t worry about it ! One last thing, as long as you’re having fun, that’s all that matters.
Oh yeah, can’t wait to see you getting after turkeys again. Especially if your able to time things right with Shane!

I was really impressed with the armless filming here. So much so I literally didn’t even realize there wasn’t that aspect until the end. Was very seen less and unnoticeable. I like this style, the massive set up aren’t always needs. As you said in your podcast, it’s all in the story you’re trying to tell and who’s watching. Was very pleased. Gimme more

3:16 You drove right past my house. Your assessment of the area is spot on. Large dead zones with concentrated activity in spots...especially in the late season. I would be happy to offer pointers or any kind of support next time you are in the area.

Camera work was great, that 360 can capture so much without having to mess with a camera arm. Not perfect for all situations but if you want to go lighter weight just having that, a GoPro and a iPhone looks like it would work fine

Thanks for sharing video in mobile late season hunt in public land. I had hunt in late season in public land in North of Wis. and it's quite tough. I remembered when DNR still allow baiting, it's easier to see deer but now most of the North counties ban the bait so is hard to hunt.....esp for a good buck. I give up hunting in the North so I hunt more in the South now.

Enjoying the video n hunt as our season ended here in MN.
U made alot of good observations of deer using sight & catching movement & not just depending on their nose & ears. 2 weeks ago on public land I was for sure the only human in the area wearing camo head to toe. A group of deer were obviously bumped by people & or dogs. I was wearing the wrong pair of pants & had my 📱 in a side pouch of my backpack. That mistake cost me 5 minutes of video of 7 deer all within 10 yards of me. @ best they were cross-wind of me. I was able to get 2 minutes of video but it's not what I witnessed. The lead doe was plain to see was the leader. She had 2 yearling daughters & a yearling buck missing his right side. The deer all within 15 feet of me were 2 doe fawns & a buck fawn. They were breathing so hard from their run across a large CRP field that I thought they might lay down & pass out. The lead doe took a few spots back in the direction they all came from. She spotted something from a distance & they all went back to where a swamp meets a ridge near a creek bottom area. U have mixed camo pieces in previous videos & it does a great job of breaking up an outline. Leaf camo only stands out with leaves & a breeze. Thanks for pointing out the little things that can bring big dividends.

Late season is always rough up north. I bet it's nice in the south, Alabama, Texas etc... where the rut comes in December/January.
Yea it would be nice to try a late season hunt down south sometime.
honestly, its just as tough down here in the South, at least on public land. Our season starts in October and by December the pressure is so great the deer are pretty much nocturnal and bed in places that are almost impossible to get within a few hundred yards without tipping them off. Trail cams show most late season rut activity takes place at night. At least up North you can us the snow to confirm where they are.

I liked it, I think another point is access through more difficult terrain features to get closer (e.g. creekbeds, swales, hills on the other side.) Much easier said than done I realize that. As far as the filming, I actually didn't even realize you were not using a camera arm until you mentioned it and I didn't think there were any deficiencies in video quality.

I was wearing Akara Nordman Extreme boots. They're nice and lightweight but I found out that they squeak if you rub them together when wet which isn't great. I've also had good luck with uninsulated boots, dry feet and socks, and artic shield boot covers with hamdwarmers. I also ordered some ShiverShield aerogel insoles to try too.

Man, what a video. I could feel the cold through my computer screen. :0 You get major points for sharing this hunt. Video quality was excellent. What kind of gloves did you use? I've been trying to find a good pair that blocks the wind and keeps my hands warm but still always me to get a good grip when shooting. Worst thing for me is when my hands get too cold. Totally ruins my hunt.
I had some Cabelas lightweight windstopper gloves. They don't insulate very much, but since they stop the wind I just keep them in my muff with handwarmers most of the time. I also picked some shiver shield mitts up after the season to try out. They should be warmer.

I didn't have any issues staying warm. Not toasty by any means but not cold enough to be really bothered by it. I keep a heated vest on underneath so I can turn it in every now and then to get a nice blast of heat on the skin. Its like taking a sip of hot chocolate psychologically.
Garrett did you winter camp or stay in a hotel?
I stayed in a motel. It was the easiest to keep things charged, dry out wet gear, etc.
He motel'd it, ala bear grylls.

which night vision binocs you considering? And, is that to be able to walk in to a stand in morning darkness?
I was looking at the ATN 4k Smart binos or similar. Not even for the night vision capabilities (which I'd actually need to block for legality in a lot of places I hunt) but moreso to be able to record what I can see through my Binos.

Second season can be rough. I learned you got to think like Dahmer, hunt like Dahmer, and look like Dahmer to get those does. I bet u all can relate right?
Any special way you are keeping your batteries warm? Any time I film in the frigid temps by the time I want to turn the camera on hours later when I see a deer coming the battery is frozen and does not even have enough power to turn on the camera. Think I may try taping some big hand warmers to them or something next year only need to gat at certain buttons to make it work so should be able to pretty much wrap the camera in handwarmers except for the lens of course.
Taking a hardwarmer can definitely help. I always use external power as well because with the reduced capacity in the cold, the built-in batteries work poorly, and the extra capacity helps it perform more normally. But a wrap and some heat can really help..

I have been down there a couple times but it has been a while.
If Land is Land locked how is it Public?
In North Dakota land needs to be posted to not be hunted. If the land is not posted, you can walk through it to access other public. You could legally even hunt the private if you wanted to. There have been talks about changing that rule, but that's the way it currently is.

How would you say your saddle usage is compared to stands now? Are you having difficulty finding cover late season in a saddle?
I'm still in a saddle the majority of the time. Late season I like to do one of two things. 1) target a multitrunk tree or larger diameter with split trunks and get between the splits. Being able to align your body with another trunk makes a big difference. In fact that's the setup I did for my recent gun hunt and the deer didn't react to my presence even in blaze orange and solid black sleeves. Or 2) try to get into an evergreen. And in that case often a stand is better because you don't need to trim much and can just find a little pocket to sit and view out of the branches.

I am curious as to how you felt about just utilizing the filming cameras you did vs a conventional cam on an arm
Certainly nicer in the moment of truth because I can just focus on the hunt. It is more work in editing though to make clips from the 360 footage and piece the various cameras together with good audio.

So at the end of the video you mentioned running your cameras non stop. Are you using the traditional battery packs that come with the cameras? Do you carry a bunch of battery packs? I'm only getting like 30 mimutes of run time with the 360 battery thats Why I ask. Also, do you have the 360 one r gps remote? Thanks for the knowledge.
I run mine with an external pack plugged in. The one I have for the One R is actually a cylindrical battery (Ulanzi BG-2 680mAh) that I place in between the camera and the selfie stick. And on the handle portion of the selfie stick I have a ground spike. That allows me to wedge it in one of the loops of my HYS strap, or use it when ground hunting.
@@DIYSportsman how much run time do you normally get out of the ulanzi bg-2 battery pack?
It recorded for 4 hrs 45min when I first tested it inside my house. In the field will probably be a little less.
As for the battery pack setup, how are you keeping the connections water tight on the camera and battery pack?

I did not see any, but did hear one or two. Also saw a hunter walking along a road holding a rooster.
Pheasant numbers seem way down. Mild winter this year though...hopefully that helps.
