TRAD BOW SET-UP | Backwoods Composites MOAC 2.0 (SUPERCURVE)

- This video reviews my traditional bow hunting set-up for 2024 which is Backwoods Composites MOAC 2.0 limbs on a 19 inch Backwoods Composites HIT-19 Riser. These recurve limbs have very aggressive amounts of recurve and are often called "supercurves" or "big hooks". You get much higher performance for the amount of draw weight you hold because the bow loads up more in the front of the draw cycle and gets very smooth at the back of the draw cycle. Those performance benefits do come with some trade-offs which I discuss in the video. This video is not sponsored. I paid full price and waited the full lead time to receive the riser and limbs. I also used Day Six HD 300 arrows, Ethics inserts, Iron Will Broadheads, Trad Vanes and natural wild turkey feathers, a Gunshy quiver, halo nocks, TTT flemish twist string, and a Yost predator tab.

Awesome video and good description of our limbs. You nailed it. A lot of good points.
Great video Garrett. Good luck to you and Sam!
Very glad to see this pop up.
Videos from you are few and far between these days. Nice to see one come across the feed again! Hope your doing well! Looking forward to watching your hunting videos!
Very cool bow set up! was awesome to watch the slow motion of the thing shooting as well. Very interesting.
Yes the slow motion has taught me some very eye opening things about what's actually happening vs what we assume is happening. Very fun to experiment with
@@DIYSportsman I watched the slow mo part 5 times. It was amazing to see the limb movements
A big departure from your OG homemade longbow video back in the day! Looks like a sweet rig
I still have that bow, though the limb is twisted something fierce after trying to salvage it following a bicycle incident lol. Whenever I get the time I've been wanting to tiller it back down to mid-40s pound range with some of the additional knowledge I've gained regarding tiller, grip pressure, etc and start shooting it again.
@@DIYSportsman nice that’s awesome. I started by making my bow, then went through the whole gambit of messing around with the ILF risers and fancy limbs. I’m back on just simple one piece ASL from st Patrick lake longbow and couldn’t be happier
I've heard great things about St. Patrick Lake. I think he's only a few hours from me as well.
A lot of good information to take in thanks Garrett ✌️👍🇺🇲
Great video as always. Good luck hunting this fall.
I shoot uukha limbs and am in love with them. I have shot super curve limbs. I do not care for them as much but the performance you can not deny. If I had a set to play with more I may like them the same. Good video lots of good information. Darren
I have heard from a couple people (and this is second hand info) that there are some aggressive hook limbs that are faster than backwoods or designed around having letoff etc, but when it comes to sound and forgiveness backwoods excel compared to others. But I have not personally tested any others. I did shoot uukha gobi's for one hunting season, but of course those aren't quite in the same design ballpark.
What is your opinion on the Uukhas? Think that is more my style but still not cheap.
Don't know if you are asking me. I love uukha limbs great speed only gain 1.8lbs per inch back at your drawl length. They don't have as much let off feel just really smooth drawl. No excessive limb vibration and super quiet for me. Darren
I've found the adhesive Stealth Strips are a fantastic camo, and also take that loud stick sound away. Easiest way to camo a bow. And I didn't have to re-tune after inapplied them, so minimal performance loss.
That's a solid option I should try. I just know how hard they'd be to remove if I ever wanted to haha
It's less bad than you think. Rubbing alcohol is your friend.
@@ItsDburch nice, so then it'd just be a matter of confirming with Backwoods that alcohol wouldn't affect whatever his top coat is.
Thanks for the video
If you aren’t hunting with a traditional set up in a loin cloth, you aren’t a hunter!
loincloths are for the soft ones afraid of sunburn, just crouch and pounce, gear these days is overrated its called woodmanship.
That's expensive gear !!! I do like my das bows with Bosen longbow limbs but sometimes my cheap black hunter longbows seem to be more fun.. I shoot black Eagle outlaw arrows 350 spine with 220 to 250 grains up front and cheap Chinese broadheads..I guess we don't need expensive gear to take big game animals with.. I do have fun shooting my expensive bows but expensive gear doesn't make me a better Bowhunter or better shot.. It is a lot of fun trying out new gear to see what you like!!!!!
Nice!
I am thinking about hunting Western Wisconsin counties near the Mississippi River .Do you think using 2D montana decoys(Montana decoys)would be effective when in Hill country?
I've not personally seen or heard of people I know using them there, especially as compared to more open habitat like the plains or ag heavy areas. One of the nice things about hills and bluffs is you can often use the terrain to predict where they'll go, instead of needing to draw them in.
Your audio is super low in this video Garrett.
Yea I noticed that too unfortunately. I tried a new setting in Davinci to "normalize audio to youtube" but apparently it didn't do too well, so I'm going to go back to my usual settings next time.
