- I began this taste test with one question on my mind... can you eat lizard fish? I have never known anyone to ever try and eat a lizard fish so I was pretty nervous going into this taste and see adventure. Check out the video to see if I was able to stomach the ugliest species of inshore fish.
I've been eating fish that no one else will even try, theres not really much you cant eat because of taste, I've been eating lizard fish for years, oyster toad fish are great broiled in butter, puffers one of the best, even fresh water fish that others wont touch are found on my table. Great videos.
Love your channel and especially these taste test videos. I catch big lizzard fish every time I go out and never even thought about keeping one until now! Seriously, who woulda ever thought the "preachers prick" was as good as flounder?
You should buy the biggest lure you can find and try and catch a fish
Just goes to show that some "trash fish" may be called trash fish because they are so small. As you pointed out, many lizard fish we catch are quite small and it would take many of them to make a meal for a family. Thanks so much for the video and the great information!
They get big, I caught some around 50 cm
I live in Cali and eat Lizard fish when I catch them. Vietnamese people stew them in sweet and sour sauce and black pepper to eat with white rice, delicious! great video by the way.
Sounds good! Thank you.
AnglerUp with Brant you should do more videos like these they're awesome and you're so interesting bro
Lol! Awesome video! We were arguing about eating one of these the other day!
We were in Panama City last weekend and caught some nice reds with the biggest 39". In the morning the wind was bad though and we stayed in the bay, but we were catching a ton of trout with some lizard fish mixed in. We didn't know we were throwing back such a good tasting fish haha. I am looking forward to a ladyfish taste test from you in the future. Back in our September trip we caught a bunch, and I had heard they were a good cut bait for reds so let's give it a try. Never caught anything on them, but I was surprised at how the meat looked so white and did not smell.
I caught one of these when I was a kid and none of my friends believed that it was a real fish. Joke's on them.
Cool stuff! Love the different spin you put on your channel.
love the taste test vids brother...I never caught a lizard fish, but if I do I am keeping it...I knew once I saw the meat it was going to be PHENOMENAL!
OK, I had to know for myself so I kept a large lizardfish this past weekend. I don't think I share the same opinion of it as you. I found the texture to be really weird. It crumbled into what felt like a thousand tiny bits in my mouth. The flavor was not bad, but the texture was yuck. And the bones. Oh my goodness the bones. I've never seen a fish with so many bones. Even after performing meticulous surgery on the fillets, which were a beautiful white BTW, I still managed to get a mouth full of tiny bones. It seemed like there were three sets of pin bones that ran the entire length of the fish. Luckily for me though I had a grill full of big black seabass that we caught on the trip. Anyway, love the videos, especially the taste tests!
We catch these all the time of the beaches in NC. The south side sound on Wrightsville has them in droves. Can't wait to put one in my belly.
They may laugh at us in Wrightsville and Topsail when ask what we caught, but I'm lizard fishing this year. Heck yea
I like this series! I ate my first lizard fish about 10 years ago, in my quest to try anything once. I did not skin the filet. my experience was not pleasant. The first bite was promising, but the second bite had a strong ammonia finish, worse than improperly prepared shark. I regularly clean and pressure can little tuny, and think fresh small bluefish is one of the best tasting fish in the water. My pallette is definitely not delicate. I'll have to give the lizard another try maybe.
dude I live in michigan and you are making me want to move to try new fish I love flounder now you have me wanting to try lizard fish.🖒
You are the best fishing channel ive seen. And ive seen almost all saltwater channels
I actually love lizard fish, I never knew they were considered the ultimate trash fish though
they are nice, only when they don't bite you because you just caught him in a cast net.
I caught one today and tasted a small piece actually surprisingly really tasty!
Ive been waiting for lizard fish test!!!!!
Glad you did the video. I caught two of those yesterday in Morehead City/Beaufort NC. I had to search online to try to identify the species. Good to know that people actually eat them. Next time I'll try eating them too. I'll add them to the list that now include blow fish.
Randolph Scott dude I caught 10 on these in 30 minutes in swansboro lol
Absolutely love lizard fish, I actually hadn't heard of it until about two months ago when i went deep sea fishing and caught one, absolutely amazing
Tried my first Lizard Fish last weekend and was blown away on how good it was! The flesh was white with no blood line. Even the backbone had a good amount of meat on it to enjoy! I will definitely be keeping this fish for table fare for sure going forward!
Thanks dude for this great video! Just caught my first Inland Lizard fish and was curious about the taste. You've convinced me to fillet it. Mine is the same size as yours. 😁😁🐟🐟🐟
We call them Grinners in Australia, but considered here as trash fish, because they are usually full of bones...
Dude I literally found this after throwing about 20 15 inch or so lizardfish away today because I was always told they were poisonous... Now I'm pissed.
I'm eating it now 😂.. This is one of the popular fish in Egypt yummy 😋.. Next time try to seasoned it with garlic, cumin salt and pepper from the inside then dip it in flower and fry it whole in oil. You'll be amazed
Damn, should've watched this a few days ago. We threw a dozen big ones back yesterday.
your content and concept are dope. was just in tampa a few days ago. i like how u target a species and relentlessly seek it. keep up the content.
What really sucks is that one time me dad and I caught a TON of lizardfish and all we kept was a few sand perch and a mackerel :c
Caught one today and was curious. Thx for the vid.
i absolutely love your channel, great fishing, great cooking review lol love it.... subbed for darn sure
Ya do a puffer love the channel
Watch this video while eating fried dried lizard fish, and yes... its absolutely yummy and best in taste. Best to cook for a fresh catch is with coconut milk or soaked with lot of spices and vinegar. 😋
Do you always bleed every fish you eat?
Thanks
Is there a different between lizard fish and sand dive fish
thumbs up fosho...thanks again for the nice show. Very interesting about the lizard fish. I look forward to viewing another show soon
Bombay Duck is a lizard fish consumed in huge quantities in South Asia. You can look up the link for an interesting tale on how it was named Bombay Duck.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombay_duck
Just caught one and appreciate your video
I must've caught 50 of these throwing the spoon the other day looking for macks. I decided to see if anybody had did a catch and cook and sure enough AnglerUp with Brant has a video. Going out next weekend and I'm keeping all of these suckers next time.☺️
these make very good grouper bait ... so keep them and trade them in for a nice grouper
Caught a few this morning about 7 inches and threw them back never knew you could eat them but good to know, thanks
New to saltwater fishing and soon to move to florida and will be getting a first boat within the next year. Where is the best place to start learning - Fish types, lures, how to rig lures, how to choose locations? Any advice will be helpful since I don't know really anything about saltwater fishing.
JamMart2016 starting off inshore with popping corks and shrimp casting at grass flats and mangroves for redfish, snook, trout, jacks, mangrove snapper and an occasional flounder is a good way to start
Catch those all the time in San Diego bay. Never tried to eat one
I first ate lizard fish about 15 years ago. Excellent eating. I'd not ever turn it down.
In San Diego we always catch them going for mackerel. Some people do deep frie them
We always cook that in the Philippines we put soy sauce and lemon juice and we fry it crispy we cut it in split
I really enjoy this taste tests, thumbs up!
Thank you.
I'm a Midwest boy so never really had that kind of fish but I've had lizard before and I like that I've had rattlesnake and I like that so if it's called The Lizard fish I'm not surprised excellent video
We eat lizards all the time, makes a good fish soup too.
Toadfish next
Good idea
lol oh my goodness thats a horrible idea! But I would love to watch him try it!
AnglerUp with Brant yeah good idea
Pretty sure I've heard somewhere toadfish have the same lethal poison as pufferfish but I'd certainly research to double check
Yeah dude don't do the toadfish...toxic flesh/blood etc...
Well i love eating em but the issue is that the species thats here is extremely boney, and the bones are kinda touch to take out. Makes for awesome fish cakes though
some of the funnest coolest vids on fishing. Would you keept hem again?
Thanks! Probably not because there isn't much meat on them. If they were larger then yes.
Good vid. Hey Brant, what seasonings did you use on the lizardfish?
Love your videos man! Me and my buddies gonna do a catch and try one day!
Here in the Philippines we called it Kalaso and it tastes good.
0:43 sunscreen my ass! That's cocaine!
Eat the fish and great bait as well! I tried a lady fish last week for the first time. Bones, blood lines, bloody meat, and if you try to fillet out the bones you mostly just cut them in half. I'm ready for you to try the lady fish!
Ok, so this is the last straw.......
I'm MOVING to Florida!!!! Lmaoo. Goodbye Nyc, hello florida come this summer.
I hope to see you out and about on the water my friend.....
I love these videos! Keep it up !
`Bombay Fish` that is what Lizard fish is been called in India. See the recipe of Bombay duck in youtube and cook it. It can be prepared in curry and also fried. I bet that is going to be one of the best fish you will ever eat.
Wow. I am shocked! I never would have guessed it was any good. I will try it. If I recall, Remora was also good.
Have you done Jack Crevelle yet?
Phil Humber not yet but will in the future for sure
This is a great video!
About to cook my first lizard fish tonight caught a few but never thought about eating one lol
I have tossed these sorry jokers back so many times, now I am regretting it. LOL Good video series.
You should catch a speckled trout and a white trout and do a side by side comparison ?
hear are some ideas, trigger fish, sting ray, eel, lion fish, puffer fish, pompano, sea robin, jack, hermit crab,
Hermit Crab LOL. He might need to come to Tampa Bay for one of those ugly things.
Unless you know what you're doing eating pufferfish might kill you
Interesting, our lizardfish out here on the west coast has an ammonia-like taste. Perhaps I'll give it one more shot
Another awesome video brant!(still think the amout of subs you have is unacceptable) when are you gonna tackle the dreaded jack crevalle in your taste test vids bro?!
Thanks! I would love to do Jack but we aren't catching many right now. I may have to travel to south florida to get one.
AnglerUp with Brant don't make a special trip just to catch a jack bro we can wait lol
come on really! I am a charter guid out of NSB FL and I catch these a lot trolling off shore with planners and gator spoons. I have thrown back thousands of them really crazy man
Huh who would of thought.....
It’s my favorite fish . I ate it in Egypt they eat it fried , and crunchy . it was the best fish ever. Very white and light. Not fishy at all. You should try to fry it. It’s something else. Do you know where I can buy it in the USA ? In Maryland? Anyone who can deliver to Maryland ?
Jack crevalle or blue runner
Would love to do Jack but we aren't catching any in my area right now.
Did you eat the LF straight up, or did you use lemon/line etc on the meat?
Thanks for the vid.
Sims Fishing, Flats Fishing, and Kayak Adventures just a little salt and pepper. That's it
Your amazing man keep going!
I actually caught a Lizard fish in Fort Lauderdale, on a boardwalk.
nice video where were you fishing?
that makes some of the best strip baits for flounder youll ever try
Here in the Philippines we love the lizard fish. It is called the toko. Because it looks like the toko geko/lizard in color and shape. Tasty fish.
Just tried deep fried lizard fish, awesome I will be eating it again, even the women were freaked out until they tried it !
Amazing
American Shad next?
I love lizardfish because even if you haven't caught a damn thing all day, these guys will hit EVERYTHING and ensure you at least get a tight line that day. They've hit my spoons, artificials, soft plastics, cut baits, live baits; they don't give a damn. I've seen some folk on the pier eating them but they never explained how it tastes.
They're surprisingly good
Ever tried barracuda?
Alabama Fishin Smaller barracuda actually taste pretty fine though
Here in NZ the barracuda are wormy.
Maybe if you ever go up river catch a bowfin. Try that one.
Why don't you clip your tag ends on your lure
because sometimes I just don't care....especially when I'm not serious fishing.
Kyle korver fishing?
I caught my first lizard fish a week ago not only do they look like lizards with fins but they bite like lizards too.
Needlefish? I must have missed that one. Can't find it either.
It's under mystery taste test.
I got 5 of them today, and released all.friend told me they are not good to eat
What song is at the intro of the video?
Lizardfish makes great cut bait, especially for white trout.
I’m late but amazing live bait off the North Carolina coast
awesome! I've always wondered if you could eat a lizard fish.
hmmm. I often caught some big lizard fish here in dubai upto 3 pounds in weight but alway threw them back because they look too ugly. and I heard that they are total trash and very bony. but I must agree that the meat in your fish looked very white and nice. Probably i should give it a shot
Oh good lord. I tossed a dozen of those slimy things back yesterday. Don't want to eat one but now I gotta. I hate the internet!
If you were in California you could catch these Japanese Goby.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acanthogobius_flavimanus
They look hideous but deep fried they taste really good, I would imagine similar species of Goby would taste just like it.
Ate it in Madeira fished lizards fish there...and it's tasty
Fish are usually better than their reputation I think. They get demoted for being hard to clean or yielding little meat or being too bony. The truly "bad" tasting fish are a rarity. And probably even a true undesirable could be made palatable with proper preparation.
Where's you based out of?
Yess. Wish Lizard fish got to the size of barracuda. Tasty!
The sunscreen on his nose say he caught a Cuban Montana fish🤣🤣
love your videos
What song does he use at 0:15
