  • Well there aren't sea robins in my region. Instead there is the lizard. Sharp teeth and tough to handle. They are an interference fish for most jiggers. However, the day wasn't all bad but I was kind of bummed out losing that good cuda.
    Lizardfish prep -
Cut head off and innards, trim dorsal fin, skin with a pair of skinning pliers. Fry like any other fish with the bone in.
    ▬▬Ketch Board + Cradle▬▬
    - The newest partner to EliasVFishing is Ketch products. The ketch board I was using is available here: bit.ly/2vosRUy

There are many kayak anglers in NC that have a special place in their hearts for Lizard fish and now knowing that instead of releasing those spawns of Satan to make more little bait stealing demons they can start eating them makes us all very happy. Thank you. The only people who will not be happy about less Lizard fish would be those working at Berkley as those wicked fish really love Gulp

i ate one a few weeks ago and they taste fine, ( like most fresh ambush fish) but my god the bones yikes they have like pin bones that run down the entire length of the fish but they are curved so removal is hard at best. would eat again but only if hungry lol to much like work to eat. (lives in NC wanted to kill one lol) i have in the past got huge flounder off live liz fish.

Breaking off a fish is heartbreaking, but when you fish a lot, while it still sucks, you can handle it better. Sadly sometimes losing fish are just a part of the game and you have to accept it... then move on and catch more giants.

I must admit that it's a pet peeve of mine to watch people handle fish, and demonstrate no regard for the importance of their slime coat. I just want to say thank you for wetting the board before you measure. I'm sure it's of no consequence for a keeper, but from a conservation of life standpoint speaks volumes for the sport.

In the past I caught a crab for every game fish. One year I caught more Sea Robins ever before and thought that was my new spirit animal. Now it is the Lizard fish! I have to admire their their aggression and fight. Perhaps one day I'll keep one. Often they attack lures their own size. Imagine a trolling for a five pound lizard fish; you'd need a lure to feet long!

Very funny video. Love these odd ball catch and cooks. We got killed by these off Hatteras last summer. They are hyper aggressive and ate everything we put in the water including Yo-Zuri plugs as big as they were. I tired one on the grill and found the meat pretty darn tasty, but you're spot on about the weird bone structure. Will definitely try frying the next time. The bones were super fine, so I suspect your right about the deep frying too. Thanks for the good work, as usual.

I can't help but think if sheephead could talk they'd sound like Bubba J. Oh hey Elias, thanks for the triggerfish recomendation. Unfortunately it's not something we can get here in California. The water is too cold, the only places you find them are down by San Diego and Baja (in prime great white territory) and there's only one species of them. I asked a couple fish markets and they said they don't ever get them in or have any access to them. They suggested ling cod, sand dab, and petrale sole. So a couple flounder species and ling cod which are rockfish.

Here’s one for you, didn’t believe it myself until I tried it. About 10 years ago I came across an article ( as in ONE) about a fisherman who was hoping to catch some nice fish to serve for an upcoming party. He was in Baja California but due to the non-corporating weather he was facing a big skunk. Desperate, but unwilling to be defeated, he brought back a real shocker! -.....Mola Mola -one of my favorite reads. Inspired, I too have it a try following his advice, Wow.....I’m now a Mola Mola hunter...lol ..... “open it up like a can, throw away what you think you would keep and keep what you think you would throw away” those were the instructions lol...

FYI I was out Monday using fresh cut Grunt for bait and could not get away from the black bass. Switched to lizard and could not get a bite at all for 30 minutes. Switched back to Grunt and resumed catching. Just saying - even the black bass have a line they will not cross. Its been 3hrs since dinner so guess I will try to watch your video now. When fish get the swim bladder blow out like that, and you want to release it, you can use a 18gage chest decompression needle. You want to get under a scale and stick just enough of the needle in to let the air out and the fish will swim away just fine. That will keep them from just floating away on the surface till they die

    • @EliasVFishing
      @EliasVFishing  5 лет назад

8:41 I've been curious about what grabs your hook to pull line like that and make you break it off. Is it a huge shark? Did you snag a whale?

It could be porpoise shark or huge red 50lb. A porpoise will strip all your line quick

If you eat barracuda again do small ones. Odds of poison low

Thanks Elias,,,,, We enjoy your stuff, specially the Catch & Cook,,,,, junk fish?! lol,,, (we're From Ohio,,, vacation down there, Oct,,, either Emerald Isle or N Topsail).
I would really appreciate a tad more 'description', so WE could learn more! 2 of my friends have yaks but are kinda leery about using them in the salt,,, I think that they are afraid of those SHARKS! So please, kindly mention how far offshore your going,,, how deep the water,,,, specially around the shore points & reefs, what KIND of shark/ fish you caught,,,, & maybe add the size limits & or season per species.
Also, Where/ how your launching those yaks,,,,, that would be helpful.
2 years ago, we were drift fishing the inside waterway, looking for grunts or spots on the drop-off points, & every time we dropped bait or cast rubber, we had a LIZARD ON! Like you thought, or was told,,,, they're 'Junk Fish', so we threw them all back! We 'Could'a had a cooler FULL!
"Taste like Crappie & Y Perch" you say!!!!! omg,,,,,,,
    You just KILLED ME! lmbo,,,,,,,,,
Well,,,, keep up the good vids! Maybe we'll see you down there some fall?
NCKFA,,,, Your comment was RIGHT ON! Exactly what I WAS thinking! ;>)

Glad you enjoyed it! I typically venture anywhere from 1 to 4 miles out on the ocean depending on weather. I try to not to talk about launch locations and where I am fishing as other locals don't appreciate this information being divulged. I'm new to the area and have received warnings already about being a spot burner. Which is understandable since they don't like a new wave of traffic heading that way to their waters.

Seeing you said better than a sea robin and has a mild sweet flavor, how close is it to chain pickerel?

hey Elias, you have been doing a lot of "TRASH FISH" catch & cooks, I've got a good one I was hopping you can do. how about a "BLACKTIP SHARK"!!! I herd that they are actually pretty taisty if you gut them rite away and put them on ice for a while. then you filet it leaving the skin with about 3 to 4 mm of meat on it, also when you do filet it, don't cut the belly meat with the filet, leave the belly meat on the shark. I herd somewhere that sharks piss through there skin and it's usually through the belly meat. """ FOOD FOR THOUGHT""" LOL!!!!

Do you bleed all of your fish, or just the bloodier ones? I bleed all my fish because it kills them quickly and it makes for a cleaner time filleting them

joescit what I do is I cut the gills. It makes for a cleaner time filleting the fish. People ask me why there is no blood and that is because I bleed them
