- On this episode of fishing taste test I set out to target a sea robin. This is a fish I have often read about as being good to eat but I wanted to see for myself. This ended up being a fun taste test challenge. I also did some inshore sight fishing for trout, redfish, and flounder. The fishing challenge for the day was to catch an inshore slam.

Dude I'm absolutely inlove with these videos, only fisherman I can watch that makes good catch and cook videos with good commentary. Keep up the good stuff
One of my favourite fishing series on RUclips. Great work.
Thank you
Nice, we have a different strain of the robins up here but on occasion get your southern sea robin. Let's see you steak up a cownose ray : )
Oh shit, the legend dropping by in the comments.
These taste test videos are exactly what I was looking for. someone eating unconventional fish....I subbed!
I started fishing when I was 4 (1973) for Scup (porgies), and one of the by-catches was sea robin. We used to fillet the meat off the tails, clean out the guts, and toss the carcasses and into a pot to make a fish broth.
A combination of real fishing and simple cooking - thank you
I wish we could get this fish in stores here in Texas.
I lived in New Zealand for a while and experimented with every fish that came through our grocery store seafood section. There they call it gurnard, but it was by far my favorite. (That's assuming that the sea robins in the US taste like the gurnard in NZ.)
I used to egg them and then cover them in panko crumbs with a little rice flour to make that stick. I then fried them in coconut oil. Just lightly salted them with unflavored popcorn salt afterwards and left them on paper towels to let any excess oil soak out. They were so good, and insofar as they are bottom feeders, I lost a lot of weight eating them.
Nice video.
Love these vids/series great job keeping them coming. Thanks
Appreciate it.
We harvest the robins all day up in New York when we are fluke fishing. Most people see them as a nuisance but they are mighty tasty. Oyster toads taste amazing too. Kind of like shellfish because that's what they eat.
Keep up the good work I enjoy the videos a lot.
I catch these all the time and I found it very helpful to have someone tell me how it tastes
Keep the videos up!!! Love your channel just found you a little ago I'll be telling my friends
My wife and I visit Florida annually to see the grandkids and fish. Caught a lot of oyster toadfish and looking forward to your assessment of them!
Great vid bud. We are going to Belize around the 19th so when you go to Belize and fish if you have the time while I'm there you should come check out our place at monkey river town! I'll teach you how to saltwater fish too lol jk bud. Keep doing your thing on here and I'll keep supporting!
I live in NJ and have been eating them for years. I was surf fishing years ago and caught one that was 21 inches and 4 lbs. They get bigger than people realize. You can eat bergalls (cunner) too. Taste just like blackfish (tautog).
I love your videos, this quality is amazing!!
Thank you. Appreciate the comment.
great vid, I always wondered about these fish myself and we got a dozen or so and they were amazingly good, Made me kind of happy to know I always can catch food. wondering what kind of knife you recommend for cleaning these. My Rapala was either dull or too flexible.
Great editing! Love the Chanel!
great video how about you try an oyster toad that would be an interesting one to try thumbs up
Good idea. Thanks.
Have a ton of them here up north, much bigger though.U should try stingray or oyster toadfish next.
I caught a sea robin last summer on the pier in Myrtle beach, ended up throwing it back in. Next time I’ll keep em. 🤙🏼
I use to catch them at the yatch club at Tyndall AFB. Really not bad at all. Great videos
They look like a gurnard which are pretty popular to eat in the UK. I think most bottom dwellers are usually pretty tasty
Hey that's a good looking SeaRobin. They are not ugly. I'm not surprised that they are good. Haven't eaten one but that's because all the ones I've caught have been pretty small. Also used to seeing them in the Aquarium Trade. I'd have a hard time eating things I sold for Fish tanks... sounds silly but kinda like eating cats..
oyster toadfish next!!!
Great video! You deserve waayyy more subscribers. keep the vids coming!🎣🎣🎣🎣
Thank you.
Awesome 👏 love catch and cook, so many fishes are called trash fish, but edible and delicious and you are proven that those fishes are delicious and edible to eat.
Is Patagonia in Texas, and I live close to Galveston and fish for reds, trout, and flounder, I went fishing yesterday and caught a pretty big black drum and a descent flounder

Thanks man. I will definitely try that in the future.
I will try both Sea Robin and Lizard fish... Great vids.
Can you try gar and lady fish?
dude this is like a guy exposing the wine industry for selling overpriced bottles when the generic stuff tastes the same. you might want to invest in some protection in case the tilapia and salmon farming industries put a hit out on you! :-) Love your channel thanks for the great videos.
I've heard of people eating spider crabs in Fla...ever try them...possible tasty by catch, crabbing....new sub...love videos...flash backs to prev. vids excellent addition...tight lines!

Travis The great I have eaten booth I hate them booth
What camera do you use? Nice video
Thanks. I have a link in my description of the exact cameras I use and where to purchase.
Ok thank you
You should try saltwater Dogfish.
Ever seen a monkfish or oystertoadfish? They are definately uglier in my opinion. I would say the stargazer, but they are scarier than they are ugly.
Love your content
Can you do a video of your editing software and camera equipment... trying to start my own Channel
Are u fishing in the Pensacola sound
nice video, what state is this?
Long Island Fishing Florida
you can eat pretty much any fish it's whether or not your to picky to eat it is what it's about . I've caught tons of spot and big perch and eat them while others say that's bait. pure white meat that's fine I'll eat that bait anytime
For the next taste test you should try a toadfish
You can't do a toad fish because they're Extremely poisonous and can send someone to the E-R just by pricking your finger on one of there fins so I don't even want to know what happens when you eat a fish like that. Point-Not a good idea
Toadfish contain tetrodotoxin, and can kill you,. Same as puffers.
Sea robins are delicious fried... It's just a lot of work to fillet and you only get a little bit of meat
love the vids
Do carp from a clean water source!
loved it!
Whats your rod/reel/line setup for throwing artificials?
Usually a Penn battle 4000 with a 7ft medium action rod and 15 to 20 pound test braid. I put a link in my description to some of the stuff I use often.
Sea Robbins are better tasting than Porgy, or scubs or crappies, depending how you call them...the tast if firmer and the texture is so much better..its like eating a lobster tail minus the lobster taste of course
We clean it like blow fish, drumstick style
Blue runner
New subscriber, And I agree 100%, Searobins look ugly but taste great :)
Is it legal to take them?
Dude u should try and eat a pufferfish
i got some in my freezer, i caught 2 the other day at the beach, but to me it tastes like nothing, it has no flavor, its like the tofu of the sea lol
What size battle 2 us that?
Try working the gulp slower on the bottom
Bassmaster 101 Iol I tried about 25 different retrieves today buddy. (Slow, medium slow, even dead stick) sometimes they just don't bite. The fish I was fishing today are famous for having days like today. I've been fishing them for 30 years.
What size reel is your penn battle 2
I use the reel linked in the description of the video. It's usually the 4000 size.
because if your videos I am not afraid to eat anything..I even like Pinfish..i know you don't like but I sure do.
They may be an ugly fish but they're still pretty cool I fished the ocean in California and Alaska got some pretty nice halibut up in Alaska but I've never fished the East Coast I would like to make it someday at my age it better be someday quick LOL
Can you do another iron man pole video
Yeah I will in the future.
Done
Spade fish
What rod n reel is that
SALTWATER KINGS looks like a penn battle with an ugly stick elite rod.
for week in pain do for get oyster tow catfish reel hand hard dead shrimp lay d fish reel good pray be safe on water lot of crazy on the water way
Done! Give me my money!
i honestly dont think the real pricey sunglasses are any better than the cheap ones. your paying so much just for the frame. the lenses are usually the same type.
Next can you do dog fish?
Braeden Wims dog fish is a commercially harvested fish. Dog fish is a replacement for Cod in fish and chips throughout England.
Can you eat tarpon
Why don't you eat the redfish you catch
Jeremy Ferreira it looked to small
Sea robin is a very good table fair fish there kind of a delicacy in Maine, New York and alot of other places even in parts of south brother ugly fish but looks are deceiving
Not surprising , have you ever seen s Chilean sea bass ? They are horrific and they are not bass .......
Calling this fish UGLY is an abuse to the mother nature. They are very beautiful creatures and they can grow up to 20Lb where I live.. Check out some nice underwater pictures here.. scubadivingresource.com/sea-robin-the-walking-fish/
Your sea robins are ugly ours up here in NJ are a beautiful orange reddish color and the tips of the "wings" are brownish.
First comment third like😎😎
dude.... toadfish
Why do you waste so much meat I mean the bloodline dosent kill you!!!!
Done
