Nick, after I watched this episode I really thought about my time as a golfer and the good times and the times I just could not understand how a game could go south so fast. I’ve had lots of professional help, I’ve taught myself a lot to. Golf really had become a chore to play. Frustrating at times. Sometimes I feel like when something good comes along the old guard wants to protect what they feel is “the right way” I am a PT and sports conditioning coach, so I look at injuries and performance and how to help people get back to what they love. This method saved my love for the game. It’s exciting knowing that so many moving parts can be simplified into around 10 simple steps to strike the ball cleanly and with accuracy. Your doing a great job with what you have to offer. I lucked out and found your lessons. And, there are many others teaching S and T with great confidence. It’s ok to explain and review critical information for us and yourself. But, we all know that this program will grow over time because it doesn’t need explaining. Anyone who try’s it with any effort will find simple success. Good on you mate! Keep up the great work it’s much appreciated!

My golf instructor trained me the S&T way in 2006; I never learned any other method. I'm grateful, because now that I have neck and lumbar spine issues, I can still get out on the course and play my best game.

Played to a 5 at one time with the traditional way I suppose. After changing to the stack and tilt method of playing golf my ball striking has improved tremendously. The tilt and hands inside is such a natural move for me to start the swing along with tilting back and pushing off my front foot on the downswing. It just feels like this is the way the body is suppose to move In the golf swing. Thx for all your help Nick !!!

I believe S&T is an excellent system . I've been playing for forty five years and moved to the system about 5 years ago . I always found it difficult to compress the ball which now can do . I had many lessons all my life without improving. Whilst I am still learning I'm far happier with my game now than I ever have been. My advice is don't knock if you haven't tried. There many teaching it across the world.
    Thanks

I'm a senior golfer & I prefer S&T to any other method. It improved my driving immeasurably. My irons were inconsistent, but towards the end of the golf season, I had some aha moments & iron play improved. S&T makes a lot of sense to me & after two years of deep diving into the method, I'm really looking forward to my best season ever, if my winter training strikes are any indication. The golf swing is complicated to be sure, but learnable with persistence.

After taken up golf again 5 years ago I started with my old swing and started look at RUclips, to be more concistent, changing the swing every three dag and needed numourus visits to the chiropractor with hips and breast back problem until i started with S&T after watching a RUclipsr with ”weight forward”. At the Time I did’nt know it was S&T if I knew I would proberly have ignored it, but it worked. Now I’m preaching S&T especially for new golfers, they start hitting the ball so much quicker and enjoy golf faster. I haven’t lost distance, even if a couple more mph would’nt hurt. The funny thing, after watching a LOT of youtubers, and some time revisiting their channels, there are actually a few that changed their teaching method to basicly teach S&T now, but of course they do not call it S&T

My experience with Stack and Tilt is that I immediately hit the ball longer and straighter. I play one to two days a week and occasionally hit the practice range. (Six months out of a year). My score is down twelve strokes in two years.

Lol they are just pissed. I learnt stack and tilt purely through you and tom. No more back, knee or shoulder pain and i can play everyday with better and more consistent striking.
couple of tips from my experience with S&T.
Experiencing inconsistent results: Check your alignment especially your body alignment using some sort of alignment stick . Example went from frustrating mid 80"s for the past few weeks back to a +5 in one round by just using an alignment stick to check my body alignment. And I still left shots out there.
Don't look at the ball. Find a spot in front t of the ball.
Driver: ball further back in stance, pop the bum out a bit and unlock the knees and once you feel comfortable learn to swing harder. This has gained me at least 20 yards. Max driver hit has gone from 275 yards to 300 yards.

Having played for 50 years I have tried most methods. The old idea of winding up the body against the rear flexed knee gave me back ache when I played frequently and as I got over 50 became almost impossible. Stack and Tilt with its turned out feet and encouraging the knees to change flex cured the problem. Also the centred turn and shoulder down means my head doesn't sway off the ball which makes solid striking much more regular. Lastly weight forward makes slicing less likely to ruin your day. Just wish I learned S and T as a youngster.

That rotary article, regardless of all the other misinterpretations, didn’t mention back and posture set up at address. It’s fundamentally one of the most important distinctions as it dictates your pelvic angles, spine angles - all which impact in how you both tilt and your hip rotation. If you go into stack and tilt with a traditional ‘flat back, head up’ setup on S&T, you’re going to throw the top half of your spine over your hips at the top of backswing and make it an even steeper downswing than ever intended. Having that natural hunch over the ball and feet flared keeps the spine on the correct side of the hips at the top of the backswing and allows easier rotation of the chest and hips without a backward inclination.
Any upright head / straight spine will be twisted to a backward inclination as you attempt to twist further to gain power.
No wonder there were so many injuries. The smallest details like this matter the most when you’re talking spine and pelvic angles.

Nick, that article comes on very strong and brags about how the Rotary system is so much more superior. Stack and Tilt is a great system and I should think you need to refute those accusations more forcefully…you sound like you are almost Canadian:) Keep up the great work.

  • @starks1974
    @starks1974 2 года назад +1

The article doesn’t mention the key to SnT is to ensure you hit the spot every time, past the ball. The is what differentiates from the rest. I don’t see any other instructions where this is the focus & has a systematic plan that any skill level can use. You don’t have to look like Tiger Woods in your swing to play good golf!
Now my focus isn’t on wrist angles, shifting weight, coming over top, etc…and with conventional my lower back would get sore all the time due to over rotation or disconnect between my upper & lower body. No thanks! Now I play and have fun just like I did when I started as a kid.
Keep up the great work Nick!

Yeah their so right there is a huge problem with the Stack n Tilt swing I only dropped 15 strokes off my handicap watching youtube videos like Nick Taylor, Rob Cheney, and Tom Saguto teaching stack n tilt huge problem lol people hate this swing I love it I am an 8 handicap outdoors and a 3 indoors all because of stack n tilt. The pga coaches hate it because it will have the golfer out shooting great numbers without draining their pockets with months sometimes yrs of lessons.

I had those same problems for a few weeks. Yesterday played golf and used an alignment stick Found out it all to do with body alignment . Went from frustrating low to mid 80's back to a +5. For once the putter let me down just could not get the pace right. As for the driver it needs to be set back further in the stance and don't forget to unlock the knees.

Nick, thank you for this video. I just ran into the article and wondered about some of the points you raised. So, to here your take on it was very helpful. One question: based on your grid, are you keeping the left foot stationary and moving your right foot depending on the club selection (like Ben Hogan)?

    • @NickTaylorGolf
      @NickTaylorGolf  2 года назад +1

Yes very similar, the center is the left shoulder so the further back the from this point the more in to out and potential to hit down

In short - Nick, keep doing what you're doing. You're great!
Long rant - I signed up on the annual subscription with chuck and rotaryswing a few years back. He does have some very good insight into biomechanics. It was so good that a well known instructor "stole" his concepts and created a clone of his site (since removed). Chuck is running a business, one that's made him $$$. But there's a lot more competition in the online coaching space now. Most are more tech and evidence based than his. It's a little sad to see that he has to bash other instructors.
I believe golf is a journey. Your body changes, time and dedication changes. Swing thoughts need to change over time too. But the bottom line is how do you move your body to strike the ball consistently with compression and face control. What works for one person may not work for all. I've incorporated some S&T concepts into my swing and found that the movements are much easier to maintain when I don't have time to hit balls every day.

I am 70 years old. Stack and Tilt is the perfect swing for me. I play injury free, hit drives almost 100 yards longer than the poorly executed traditional swing that frustrated me for years, and land the ball in the Fareway more often than not.

The most annoyed fact is that each time at driver range a lot of mordern swing instructors approached with suggestions and commentaries on my SnT style. The last each of them would ask was who is Sn T player on tour. But the most interesting thing.is that when i came back in 1 or two years, a lot of them have changes in their teaching: hand in, rounded.back, lower head looking straight to the ball, foot flare centric turning instead of weight shift to the right, and begin to draw.

What they dont realize is you dont have to use everything, the swing teaches you not to sway your head and how to stay over the ball. Eventually when you realize what you were doing wrong all these years and how stack n tilt simplified THE LEARNING PROCESS YOU CAN BRING DIFFERENT VARIATIONS TO THE SWING AND NOW KNOWING HOW TO HIT THE CENTER OF THE CLUB you can really start to play golf. sorry for the caps

I use to think Chuck was a decent and actually used his system many many years ago it was fine but back then Clay Ballard was an instructor of his system before he split off and created Top Speed Golf. When Clay left so did I. Still a memeber over at Top Speed I like his instruction. Its sad he is trying to sell his product by bashing another. I use Stack and Tilt for 85 percent of my shots with the other coming from Top Speed golf which is very close but a little more pressure shift which allows for more speed. Primarily I ise it for Drfier and fairway woods.

At the risk of being blunt, the bottom line is that the article’s author already has a history of behaving like a complete dufus.
It’s all about trying to protect market share and he’s shown himself, before now, to be very combative on that front. If S&T was not a threat to his system, he wouldn’t be investing so much time and effort to prepare an article like that.
Rotary Swing and S&T are very different when it comes to the distribution/shifting of weight, for example. S&T has become increasingly ubiquitous. What has him worried is the obvious popularity of a system (S&T) that is contrarian to what he teaches.

Point of contention ,toes pointing slightly outward is not a “Stack and Tilt” principle persay. I took lessons at various times over the last 4 decades, read 100s of articles in Golf digest, and 100s of videos all or almost all instructors teach slightly outward pointing toes for better balance and a more athletic stance. I am sure one can find traditional instructors suggesting straight feet, but it would be a straw man argument to suggest this is the norm in that community.

golf tuition has hardly changed since the days of the scots guys and the guy that taught Bobby Jones, it has simply been repackaged over the decades, by Harmon, Leadbetter, Mclean etc, the 'traditional' system is fine if you can practice numerous hours and are flexible and athletic, but why haven't handicaps improved then? ive played club and society golf on and off for approx 45 years, many of the regular club players i see play well INSPITE of NOT playing the traditional method, in most cases except for the really heavily practicing classy amateur, many club members use an obviously idiosyncratic swing (a lot 'club' the ball with a forearm + handsy punch)
that they have developed over the years to get them around the course (just look how many club players try to dump it out of bunkers for example) traditional teaching is a failure, i'm now fully involved with learning the S&T method, the science behind is sound, and viewing many of golf's best now and from the past (such as Snead and Hogan) its obvious that aspects of their swings can be described as features of stack and tilt. For my own part i think the major issue with stack and tilt is the 'tilt' which i suggest can be easily misunderstood often as a big 'lean' to the left at address (which of course its not! anyhoo Cheers and good luck
