Upgrade The RAM in The Original XBOX to 128MB | Advanced 1.6 Install

In our second video of the OG XBOX refurbishing series, we finish up with the clock capacitor installation. We also perform the 128MB RAM mod on this 1.6 Original XBOX and use an Aladdin chip with a custom XBLAST OS to perform the RAM tests on the 1.6 version console.

Its the Xblast OS, which is flashed onto an Aladdin chip. There are a few open source chips that you can install the OS to as well.

Why not 32mb QC50 chips instead of 16mb stock ones?

Huh my comment was deleted...
Adding 256MB of RAM is signifigently more complex then adding ram to existing banks and using a custom bios. Prehistoricman on HackADay was able to but he had to write new custom bios with ram management and add some traces to allow for signaling; there were some issues as he had to use BGA ram which required he make a custom PCB; looks like the traces weren't equal distance which is causing some issues.

What's the benefit of more RAM on the Xbox?

XBMC seems to run a little smoother with it, though I imagine a faster CPU would help more. A few emulators can use the extra ram as well as some debug titles that you can run on the XBOX.
