This is cool as hell. Always loved the OG Xbox. It was my first console I purchased as an adult with my own money. I remember when GTA Vice City launched on it and it ran considerably better than the PS2 version, and I threw it in my friends' faces like the mature young man I was. Lol. Some things never change!

The upgrade definitely keeps the game hitting a steady fps compared to before.

I was gonna say I don't see the point since older console games are locked at 30fps but damn I was wrong! Takes a pretty steady hand to do all that though. No way would I be able to do that.

I knew OG xbox's were Pentium 3s... but I didn't realize they were that close to retail desktop ones

This woulda been a killer mod throughout the 2000s if this enabled 720p video playback. It was so close, but just not fast enough.

I'm curious, does this mess with the timing on various games that would have been built with the origional speed in mind? Does Blinx/strangers wrath run too quickly?

T20 is the size for the outside screws. T15 may work but could strip them 😅

Try the PMAP fix but undo the Modchip first to see if it works without the Modchip. Also sad to see the PS2 getting downgraded to a Modbo. Modbo's are cheap clone chips with hit and miss quality, i ordered 5 and 2 Modbo's were DOA and they have non upgradable firmware, but they still get the job done when they work, especially for consoles that don't have Modchips in them and they're super cheap and common. The DMS, Mars and the holy grail Matrix Infinity, are the best modchips to have in your PS2. Much better build quality, reliability, with upgradeble firmware with patches that actually work. But they're rare and expensive these days. I recommend installing them into special edition PS2's along with the Retro Gem and the RePS2. The Modbo is really all we have today, the PS2 needs a new modern modchip solution like what Xbox has with OpenXenium and the GameCube with the Picoboot.

Not only does the new CPU speed up the framerate (meaning less hitching and stuttering with HL2) but you can also notice a massive bump in audio quality as well! Before the upgraded CPU the audio had artifacts but after those noises disappeared! I wish microsoft just made it the console this way with this CPU and ram config as a mid console refresh a "OG xbox Slim" or somehting. (cuz slim was the word back then... not its lite lol or X hahaha)

1ghz is more reasonable for the Xbox than the 1.4Ghz Tualatin which is overkill and better suited for a Retro PC Build. I wonder if the 1ghz P3 can play Xbox games without the need for patches.
