I am looking for Xbox repair for clock caps and also cleaning how much you charge?
My question es work perfect killer instinct emulators, 60 FPS and font crash no Mercy tu combo AND others characters
Can you ONLY install a 1 Ghz CPU upgrade in a 1.0 Xbox? I've got a 1.3 that I'd love to have upgraded if that's possible.
I will not forget
I'm glad I found your channel, will be sending mine in soon.
Never in a million years could I even think about attempting something like this. Amazing skills and tools you have there. Also WOW Half-Life 2 is ACTUALLY PLAYABLE now
inb4 you try this and destroy an assembly line's worth of original xboxes
Thanks
just wait till you see the 1.4ghz consoles
Played the Orange box on the Xbox 360. It was very playable there! And difficult as all hell. Yet my lucky star that the ring of death was only a internet joke for us. Ended up even playing GTA 5 on the Xbox 360! True troopers of a console gen they where for us. Even the Wii gave up before the Xbox 360's. The CD/DVD reader failed on the Wii... But the Xbox 360 lived on and on. I do not think any one I knew had a DDD. They where put in a closet only to be taken out for GTA5. Lucky us? They where not lightly used... And still lasted all that time.
Controllers are simply horrible for shooter games. One of this days I should try and play HF2 with a controller and see how bad one where back in the day at games. HF2 was a fantastic game! Even now it was one of the few shooter games that I ended up playing with a controller. Even GTA 4 that horrible mess of a PC port was simply worth enjoying on a proper PC with a mouse to aim. GTA 5? Aaa. It was a grate send off to console gaming. A last hura before ditching it completly. More likley to buy a Steamdeck 2 then a Xbox/PS/Nitendon't. Do not even own a handeld outside of old trusty PSP's. Linux on desktop FTW!
@@TheDiner50 CD/DVD is a very easy fix on the Wii BTW, once you get in in the first place. Like easiest replacement in the whole console.
I am so jealous of people that are so talanted with this kind of stuff. Wish I had gotten into tech like some folks did.
Its never too late to start tinkering
@@RetroRenegadeRepairs Like Retro said... your not dead yet :D.. get on the journey before it really is TOO late.
Look at the size of these BGA balls. I can fit a family of 4 in the space of one of them.
Wow, that CPU upgrade was huge. No clipping in the audio when the AI was walking around.
Yea, I noticed a clear difference as well when watching the footage back to back.
ok that is really cool. Didnt know the CPU could be upgraded. Well done sir
@ModernVintageGamer has a video on a commercially made XBOX with a similar upgrade to this one.
The classic Xbox is basically a PC with a Pentium 3, Geforce 3 and DDR ram. If I'm not mistaken, it's also possible to upgrade the RAM, although it's quite hard to do.
The Tualatin is a way finnickier upgrade. Requires the processor adapter by kekule. You can push it upto 1.5 ghz.
Thank you
There’s a new interposer from zzattack that is pretty awesome we’ve been using. Also custom 3d printed brackets for the original cpu heatsinks. I’ve installed a few on my channel. Great work on the 1ghz upgrade bro
i have an upgraded xbox original,1.4ghz with 128mb ram and 2tb hdd and project stellar, its worth every euro, really love the system.
1.4ghz, that's insane, twice the speed?!
@@nicoful86yup! Very difficult mod to perform, havent succeeded yet sadly.
The Openxeniun chip is better than the stellar. With the openxenium you can use whatever bios you like and have multiple bios banks.
@@L0tsen Stellar is great. Does everything I need. Don't really care I'm "locked" in.
Do you have any issues with game speeds? I've read that some games have issues with the clock speed over 1ghz
A skilled man with a proper BGA station... That's the missing tool from my workshop. And the solder tip of all solder tips, of course.
Very meticulous work my friend!
Nice never seen this done, very interesting to watch and learn. Great job amigo.
I figured I'd give it a shot since I've done other BGA related stuff on our other channel. Thanks for watching.
I watch stuff like this all the time and the algorithm just now put your channel on my feed. I've already ran through most your back log. Great stuff. I would love to see an equipment overview of your work space. Keep up the videos. I'll watch every one you post.
Thanks, I appreciate it. An equipment overview video? Not a bad idea, but I think it will need to wait until we get a bit more organized.
@@RetroRenegadeRepairs
that just means more comments about how messy it is😂
Incredible work brother! The difference is clearly visible! 😎👌🏼
Glad you think so!
This is wild.. Great work. Can definitely see an improvement.
Saw comment from Bringus, subscribed to your channel before watching the video. Looking forward to checking out your other stuff!
Excellent videos! Please keep the content going. I've been binging on it for a few days now! 😊
Thank you! Will do!
you made it look easy! and you earned a new subscriber today! good job champ!
This is awesome, fantastic work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Very impressive work, I had no idea you could do this. Very neat!
Thanks
I remember people in the early days doing these mods so they could have a killer HTPC to watch even higher quality content
BEAUTIFUL WORK
Thanks!
Awesome! the 1ghz P3 is the easiest cpu upgrade as its just Reballing no interposer adapter needed.
The XBOX at 1ghz can run almost all games patched at 720p resolution! im playing MORROWIND patched at 720p with my 1ghz xbox on a 55" TV and the graphics still being good. You can also overclock the cpu by SOFTRARE too... so your 1ghz Xbox can go up to 1.4ghz!!! there is a recent overlock software for the xbox. The next steel is patch the game XBE file to make the game recognice the higher cpu speed, and enjoy.
Amazing work, may consider you next time I need a board repaired!
The Half-Life 2 test is awesome man! Good work!
Machines I had no idea existed. Nice job man
You and Nick both are awesome technicians.
Thank you. I didn't know you watched both channels.
Ive always wondered if this was possible. Amazing work, great video! Thanks for sharing, and yeah i seen a clear performance difference.
Agreed and thanks for watching.
Amazing brother, instant sub❤
Thanks!
Excellent work here!
Thanks a lot!
Bless Project Stellar for making this a possibility today. Awesome to see an Xbox upgraded to this degree.
The Stellar chip had its issues when it first launched, but it is maturing quite nicely. For sure makes upgrading the CPU a breeze.
stellar work! 👍
Thanks
Great job, my friend. This is amazing.
And the good thing is that i see that you are in Tucson! I don't live there but I go very often.
Thank you. Hopefully you aren't making trips here just for the heat.
@@RetroRenegadeRepairs lol. no need to! We have the same temperature.
Amazing work
Thanks
impressive work! Greetings from Brazil!
Thank you very much!
Cool vid. Great work. Sub'ed 👍
Thanks
Beautiful BGA work. Incredible skills.
Thank you very much!
Good shit man, great video
Thanks
This was cool and educational
Superb skills man, I'm shocked one can upgrade the OG Xbox and get so much of a performance boost, HL2 went from choppy to smooth. Subbed!
There's definitely am improvement🤩 I have an og xbox with a faulty dvd drive(it gets stuck), I'd love to get it fixed and maybe even an hdd upgrade as well for now. Later I might consider the cpu and ram upgrade too. In my opinion this was the best console I ever played on.
Great job!
Thank you
Nice work💯
Thanks
It runs a lot smoother 😊
I thought so as well, but I think using the extra speed with emulators and XBMC would probably be where the CPU upgrade is best used.
Great video, amazing skills. I never knew the original Xbox used basically a Pentium III. I thought it would have used a newer CPU.
Man how come I've never knew this channel... Thanks RUclips algorithm I guess.
Subscribing definitely.
I'm surprised you were able to handle the stencil + chip without the stencil sliding around.
Great video 👍
Its all in the type of flux you use. Thanks for watching.
This is amazing, and watching you work was so satisfying! But... I really want to do this mod myself, so now make another video where you do the same thing with just a soldering iron and a heat gun so I can follow along 😂
Again, very nice!
Thanks
Really impressive work, and for something so important and fragile it was just another day at the office. I wish my hands were that steady, amazing dexterity choom
Thank you for the kind words.
THB it looks more difficult then i tought. But this is so awesome, is want this!!! :)
The sad part is this upgrade isn't as difficult as the interposer version.
This is really something! I wonder are there faster CPUs that could be used? Love your work.
There are a few and some of which are more difficult to install.
Youve got my sub
Thanks
Fascinating video, Liked and Sub'd
Thank you
nice job man.
Thank you
Good video. The devs performed magic tricks to get HL2 to run on the original Xbox hardware.
real craftsmanship
Thank you
Sick mod brother, it would be so cool to the a comprehensive video with more games tested, with fps counters, loading times etc
Agreed. Probably would need a debug console or a plugin of some sort to make it happen.
Nice upgrade. At least from the HL2 footage seems like it's totally worth it. May I suggest a Doom 3 comparison aswell?
The title sounds like a DIY vs. sending it off, but very cool.
Man, I wish we could have upgraded game consoles via a plug and play setup. Not the same, but we came close with what SEGA (CD/32X) and Nintendo (N64 DD) did back in the day. Thanks for stopping by.
@@RetroRenegadeRepairs Ah yes the good old days loved play Goldeneye DM and trash talk my friends
That was so cool, I never even knew most of these tools existed. Do you think you'll ever do the Frankenstein PS3?
I eventually plan on it. I have what we need here, but it may be a while due to time constraints.
the sound is even better no stutter.
I didn't even notice. Thanks for pointing that out.
@@RetroRenegadeRepairs due to the upgrades you made i would say the last upgrade with the CPU would have made the sound with less stutter as i do not know with the Xbox but i know with many pc's especially now days that they use a soft codex and that relies on the cpu to do the processing especially for back then PIII where quick but i am sure the cpu's would have taken a hit with software sound.
nice work
Thanks
That's some serious soldering equipment.
Yea, the BGA machine is quite the beast. Thanks for watching.
Definitely noticeable
Way smoother on that side by side
holy cow this is legit. talk about doing a job right!
2:35 Oooooh. I love a good de-balling :)
It's definitely smoother after the upgrade.
Great video 👍 I'll try to find a slot card like that to upgrade my 128mb HD+ crystal system.
Currently I also have a 1.4ghz 128mb halo console with stellar and its awesome.
Recorded some gameplay on that one if you are interested
Thanks. Its a shame there isn't an easy way to display FPS to perform comparisons.
Tools are a little overkill for this size of CPU but much safer then what I've done before. Nice work!
Definitely smoother movement
It is smoother. Was it worth it?! Not sure if i don;t have this master laying arround. Well done.
Looked a little bit better IMO as well. Thanks for watching!
wonderful, magnificent, extraordinary
Maybe some day I will have the tools and expertise to do this. The Stellar and Xbox HD+ mod was already a big leap for me (have done 3 consoles now). Goal is to do one of these mods at some point def now that its easier than ever for compatibility support with the work MakeMHZ has done with their modchip. Also on a side note I heard its possible to do a 256mb RAM mod by stacking the chips, do you think it'll make any difference in game performance?
You can actually upgrade your xbox with a tualatin pentium 3
Awesome! I just found out I have 1.0 xbox. Yet in my case upgrades will have to wait.-$$
Replacing the caps should be the first priority.
Very nice setup you have!! How much does a BGA station like that cost?
I believe it was around the $4K range a few years ago, but is probably cheaper now.
this is very interesting
Made it look easy 👍
Thank you. I've been doing it for years, but had never attempted it for the OG XBOX.
@@RetroRenegadeRepairs It's one of those videos that fills you with self (false 😆) confidence.
You should try Path of Neo. It supported 1080i but could really chug. I wonder if this CPU upgrade would have an effect.
I forgot all about that game. I'll have to try it out and see if there is a difference.
@@RetroRenegadeRepairs also fantastic job by the way you make re-balling and replacing a BGA chip look like it's easy.
yes its looks smoother wel done may be gpu upgrade works to
The "before" was what we used to be accustomed to, or even lower, when I was a kid
The after shot is clearly better. Over 30fps? Not cinematic at least.
Alot smoother
Would be awesome if this upgrade can be done to an Xbox 360 Jasper/Trinity! Upgraded RAM and CPU/GPU
I know there were 1200 and 1300mhz p3 slot 1 CPUs mostly found in some compaqs back in the days. I used 1 on my bx440 board . Are they hard to find or are there limitations to those working?
Thats cool never realized the cpu was from one of those old brick ones haha.
makes an obvious difference in my opinion. i could never do this myself, but would jump to buy one already upgraded for my mancave! Is there any possibility of adding in more ram or is that already maxed out for the system to recognize?
the xbox can be upgraded to 128mb has unused ram slots, and theorically to 256mb with better chips but i dont know if any tested or a bios compatible, all xbox can work with 128mb from stock, the ram and the CPU made the xbox move 720p resolution on games and videos so is worth it if you play the original xbox on a modern HDTV, yo soy can play old games but in way better graphics.
Stock XBOX comes with 64mb, the max at this time is 128mb ram.
I wonder if it's possible to add a socket instead of desoldering and resoldering CPUs...
Very impressive!
I'm curious about how hot it gets. I've seen Noctua fan mods but they mostly focus on improving noise level. I don't think they help with cooling.
stock xbox runs very cold, a bit more is no problem as this mod keeps the original heatsink that cool a lot... Noctua mod is crap, adapting a 80mm fan is the good cooling upgrade. My xbox runs at same temps but very quiet, and i can also plug the fan into the 4pin molex instead of the board so the 80mm 2500rpm fan run at full speed, for summer, not so much noise. 80mm fan is the key i had a old video about it on my Channel.
I have been waiting for the old pay-cheque to come in this month and bought a 1.4ghz with Stellar for £500. I really feel like the options to do this are going to disappear or financially be out of reach, the longer I leave it. Toe officially dipped. I do some pretty cool dye work on the crystal cases so god knows what it'll end up being transplanted into. All I know is it won't be leaving my house in a hurry. Neat work on the reball, seems easier than I'd have expected. Toyed with the idea of getting into it for a while but my time is taken up with other mods that pay better.
Hi! Can you make a video on recapping a PS2 Fat 50001 model or a GameCube?
I'll add those to the list
Kinda want one now....
Pretty awesome. I never would have thought you could do upgrades like this. But then the Xbox is pretty much a pc isn't it?
Yea, it is. I think honestly that's why the console is so special.
Yeah, it's smoother. Not sure what the FPS counter will say of course, but I would figure it's probably holding steady at 30 with the upgrade, and dropping a few frames here and there without it, resulting in that slight stutter.
It'd be awesome to get an FPS counter to see how much of a difference the upgrade actually makes.
i’m so sad i’ve lost two OG xboxes and can only imagine modding one 😭
I forgot hl2 was on Xbox man I'm old
How do you avoid breaking off contact pads is it with lower heat or?
Do you have a link for your BGA station and stencil profiles?
I have a soft modded xbox and I want to get mt console upgraded and repaired on ram and cpu and also hdmi upgrade as well along with clock caps
Hello ShiroColdkeyesTheHedgehog
Yeah, I have done those upgrades many many times before for other people. If you want I can do those upgrades for you as well and we can talk about certain options depending on the version you have. Just fill out the contact form linked in the video description or you can send me an email directly info@nickselectronics.com
Let me know what version of Motherboard you have and all the details of the upgrades you are looking for. If you have a budget, let me know what it is so we can try to optimize the upgrades.
@@RetroRenegadeRepairs V1.1 board
Would a donor from a socket based 1GHz rather than one that came off a slot 1 been successful (and theoretically one less step)?
i wasn't know the original Xbox using Pentium iii slot 1 Based cpu, if it was the newer PGA 370 socket it would be an extremely easy to upgrade
Project stellar??? I though you need a interposer or something like that to upgrade the cpu?
Only if you use a Tualatin chip. If you use a Coppermine chip, it goes right in.
