They are magnificent. The slip joint pliers were in the toolbox under the lathe bench for years. I didn't have a use for them. When I was trying the Plasti Dip they were one of the experiments. The can had started to setup so I tried brushing the stuff on. Dad and I bought tools at King Electric in Coldwater, MI. They sold Klein tools. Those might have been from that era. I was his apprentice electrician during the late 60's. The Klein rubber covered screwdrivers in my tool pouch are nearly 50 years old and holding up well. Dad bought a set of Klein grips for his tools. I remember him boiling the grips on the kitchen stove so they slipped on. I always bought the factory coated handles. Now these deserve a set. I am especially impressed with the fencing pliers. They are one of three similar sets from the toolbox. Until I stsrted watching your channel I just thought they were interesting because of their age. The first set I saw you work on cut so well that I pulled a set out of the toolbox and put it on the rack. Great work and thank you.
What a great set of restorations! and my two favourite channels get together. I was slow looking at this video as I wanted to watch, uninterrupted and just enjoy it. Seeing the Thor mallet was a real treat and be aware, if the ends ever wear out they are replaceable. A HUGE thumbs up and many, many thanks.
I've got an 8" set of those fencing pliers with the markings to indicate that they were made by Crescent and the model number was 1000-8. Alloy Artifacts website has a couple of good pictures of them and describes the knurling on the handles as the "checkerdot" pattern. Thanks for all the great videos.
Hello Mark! Lol. That is so funny, I was just mentioning to Luke from Australia that the Crescent pliers were said to be superior over other brands by people who use them all day long! Their steel was top quality!!! Thanks so much!!!! 😃👍
Another great job scout. Really like the "Bell Systems" pliers. I think I need a pair to remind me of the old days. I use to see the Bell Telephone trucks all over our little community back in the mid to late 60's. I subscribed to Ole Sneelock's workshop, looking forward to checking out his channel.
Hello TD! I'm sure you have one! You have a beautiful collection of top notch tools!!! I saw this Thor hammer on Tom Lipton's channel and had to have one! Just a beauty!!! Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
Hello Jill! I have learned a lot from Dave! The funny thing is I bet you don't look at pliers the same way now... They are one of the most underrated and under appreciated tools! They deserve better! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!
Another great restoration vid. I am a cable worker and I can attest to the quality of Klein tools. I have tried other side cutters and they simply do not measure up. All the better you bring the old ones back to life. Keep 'em coming SC!
Hello Teddy! All the pro's swear by Klein pliers... When you restore tools you can see the difference in quality and construction, nothing beats Klein! Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
3 in 1 video!!! wow great job. I love the satin finish. He will get years out them. I have to say the fencing pliers were my favorite. Love it when you take off decades of rust.
From what I gathered, utica had contracted out the forging of their original design on the fencings to their neighbors over at crescent in the early 1900s .. as you may have noticed, this design seems to exhibit this fact by way of carrying model numbers in common, that being "1000", the base of the model ID numeral found across examples from both of these classic and iconic American forging outfits.. absolutely beautiful work.. THE DAKE- DUNDUN DUN DUN DUUUUNNN!! Love your content brother! Cheers from Southern Oregon
I have one similar to 3:40 fencing pliers Very good quality but the nurling and jaws are not quite the same ! Mine are from cresant tools 8" And I keep it in my tool kit and use it often! Lovely tool to possess!!!
Hello Tony! Crescent is supposed to be the best fencing pliers you can buy! All the full time ranchers who use this tool everyday swear by Crescent!!! Thanks so much!! 😃👍
Beautiful work as always! Those Klein's came out gorgeous and luckily didn't snap under that eight tons; amazingly tough steel in those guys! You can never have too many pliers, especially when you can breathe some life into these oldies!
Hello Kenneth! The funny thing is I have a pair of '64 Kleins that I snapped the handle! I was trying to open them because they were frozen and the handle snapped!!! After that I am really careful about putting too much stress on anything!!!! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!
Howdy Hi, Greetings from Colorado. You and Old Sneelock both have motivated me to dig in my old rusty stuff pile. As an auctioneer I have gotten lots of stuff over the years, I am a hammer nut, but have lots of other tools as well, I want to Thank You Both for all the great information and motivation. God Bless America.
Hello Joel!!! My Brother!!!! We are both Hammer Nuts!!!!! Yes I know, you thought I was a plier and wrench guy but I have more hammers then anything!!!!!! I'm going to showcase some soon!!!! You are going to love them!!!! =) Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first set of pliers, the fencing one are most likely Crescent or Cee-Tee. I have a similar pair with that that same style of handle pattern, and they're actually marked " Crescent ". Best regards from Australia.
Daddy be happy got to see the Dake today! I guess you didn’t think the Dake was overkill on this project at 8 tons. Klein must use incredible steel in their tools based on what happened to that Grade 8. Hats off for another great video. John the Bladenator
Hello John! I couldn't believe it! I kept going up 1000 lbs at a time so afraid I would snap the pliers! =O I finally got up to 8 Tons and the rivet wasn't even marked!!!! Klein uses some amazing steel for sure!!! Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Hello Greg! Lol. When I finished I looked like a chimney sweep! I'm so glad they came out nice! I love all three of this pliers! Thanks very much!!! 😃👍
Howdy S.C. ! Yes 😎 love tools and repairing things. Bringing tools back to life, many for use, is not only fun but it saves money and most often, the quality is hard to beat. A winning combination if I ever saw one👍 If you'd like to see some of my work, please take a moment to visit my public group on Facebook (if you do F.B.) I share many of my projects there. My watering can project is one in particular I think you'll enjoy. facebook.com/groups/1514469025257903/
Hello Jim! Wow! There was a ton of photos! Some great shots of old time TV westerns!!!!! I have to watch a western everyday or I go nuts! I am currently watching the Lawman Series with John Russell! I didn't see the watering can though!!!!
Those are beautiful set of pliers. I must say that I am subscribed to Old Sneelock workshop my self and his videos are great... Thank you ScoutCrafter for bringing two of my favorite channels together. Yours and Old Sneelock. diYotamCh
I really think you should start your own tool production company! Everything you know would help in make some great tools lol. Very good video, keep up the great work scout!
Hello Mason!!! LOL That's so funny because I always said if I won the Lottery I would re-open one of those old factories and make some cool tools... Not for profit but to put people back to work and make it an awesome place to work where everyone was happy to come to work! What fun! Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Love the channel, another great vid. Those fencing pliers were very popular here in Australia, I have a set of three that were my fathers in 8 inch, 10 inch and 12 inch, very early 1970s. Still use them almost everyday. From what I gather they were blued when new. No markings on them, would love to know the manufacturer or who came up with the design!
Hello Luke! Yes! They were like a modified Button design! Absolutely wonderful to use!! The cutters work so well as you know! Lots of companies made this design but from what I hear from people who use these all the time is that Crescent made the superior examples! Top quality steel and forging!!! Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
Hello Aaron! Nothing here is hard, it just helps to have a Wire wheel, belt sander and Buffer... If you were in my basement you could get the same exact results!! Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
I had an old timer tell me to save some of the granule abrasives from chop saw dust and use a little Ridgid thread cutting oil to break in new stiff pliers. Sort've similar to using valve lapping compound. Don't go too crazy with it or pliers will wobble.
All three pliers came out great! It's a shame that more manufacturers did not mark their products in a way that would last. The dating scheme on the Klien pliers definitely adds to their collectibility. Case pocket knives have a similar dating scheme - one of the reasons they are so collectible.
Hello 357MD! You are so right! If people could date their tools they would definitely become more collectable! I like Case, they are among the most collectable knives made! Thanks!!!!!!!
Hey Scout. Three pliers for the price of one video. Awesome as usual. I’ll be checking out the swap meets and flea markets for a pair of those bell system Kleins. Might get lucky and pick one up. BTW Subbed to that channel.
Hello Skip!!! The Bell system made a whole line of tools, their most popular is the Bell system Hammer! It is really heavy duty looking with a oversized head! Great stuff! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!
Great video! I just began collecting vintage tools again, and just picked up some FSP Vacuum Grip Slip Joint pliers that are in nice shape but they have had the original nut replaced with a regular nut that is big and bulky at some point. Do you know what style nut the original was, or know where I can pick up a nut that is like the original one? Thanks, and looking forward to new videos.
hi Scout Crafter the little openings in the slip joint pliers are for old spring type hose clamps for cars or appliances without those groves they are hard to remove
Hello David! I have some speciality hose clamp pliers that have a vertical groove along each jaw, they also have a slip ring that allows you to lock the pliers while the hose clamp is engaged.. These are slightly more complicated and specialized.... Hard to tell what they were for!!! Thanks very much!!!!!!!!
Very nice pliers and if you had to choose one, which one would you pick? They all have jaws, all cut wire, to me it was a choice between the fencing pliers and the slip pliers as they are more of multi tools and do more things saving tools being carried. In the end I would pick the slip pliers as they do a variety of jobs, but how well? They all restored very well extending their life.
Hello Tony! These 3 pliers were all just beautiful examples of great design and workmanship! All 3 turned out so nice! I just wish I had a extra pair of Klein Koats to put on those '64 Kleins, I had to send them back yesterday and didn't want him to wait! I think the slip joint pliers were super interesting! Those jaws were crazy! Thanks so much!!!!!!
Hello Loxxxton! Thanks so much!!!! I know I have been overdoing the pliers a little lately but just hang in there, Hammers are coming!!! LOL Thanks again!
Fantastic job on these! The slip joint one reminded me of something that I wanted to ask you about as a “pliers guy”. Have you ever tried a pair of Vampliers from Vampire Tool in Japan? They have a unique jaw design for gripping stripped out screw heads. I was wondering what you thought about them.
Hello Blackie! It's funny but I thought at first I wouldn't use them but now I look forward to using them! I just won't toss them on the floor or dirt... Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
Thanks for giving my one of my favorite new hobbies, I just did a pipe wrench that I found in a box of free stuff on the road. I use tools for practice before I work on guns. I wish you would set up an Instagram account to share pictures of these tools.
I believe your mystery pliers are corbin spring clamp pliers. Google "corbin clamp" and you'll see how the upturned ends of the clamp fit into the spherical recesses, while the triangular jaw cutouts accommodate the bend in the clamp.
Hi Johnny! I have some pliers made just for Corbin style clamps and they have the slots along the jaws of the pliers but that recess Hole is what gets me! Thanks so much!!!!!!
Semper Fi! Hey, just thinking, is there a system (other then the plastic dip) for coating professionally, pliers to the original glory? If you have this type of material and system, can you make a video on that?
Hello Pablo! Don't we wish!!! The PlastiDip is ok but nothing like the commercial dip they use... The Klein Koats are better then anything out there!!! I just ordered two more sets! I have a 1954 set of Klein's in the wings! 😃👍. Semper Fi!
Hello Curmudgeon! It is very possible, I think Pianos have square tuning bolts! Maybe!? They really are interesting and would love to know their background!!!! Thanks so much!!!
I know this is old but the third pair may be made by Lionel trains to work on o gauge or o-27 gauge track. The round hole helps pull the three pins that attach track together. The funny jaw shape could be used to reshape and tighten the pins in the track. Lionel made some strange tools for their service trained personnel. Look up some of their test stations - not fir the faint of heart - 1920 models going fir $5000 and up if you can find them. If those are old Lionel they could be worth many times the Klein’s.
ScoutCrafter - on EBay someone is making some out of Harbor Freight welding pliers. But if you look up in Lionel old books they had the two types of pliers and I think 5 test stations. $2 pliers are now $50 or more. $75 test stations go from $3000 to $5000 depending on which one. You don’t need the pliers on the new type track. One day all us old guys will by gone and someone will wonder why someone ruined a perfectly good set of pliers years ago. Hopefully there is a “Scoutcrafter” type who researched what they were used for.
ScoutCrafter - 815: Lionel postwar No. 5C dealer test bench w/leads - they make a 5f more expensive and about 5 other types and then you get into years. I have none of these but my local Lionel dealer has this and one for the modern electronic trains.
nice another new one have you ever cut Allen key and make your own Allen socket? If you ever wondering what size the allen it is just put it different sockets till it fit.
Hello David! That's funny because just a few years ago I bought my first set of Hex Sockets! I have yet to use them but always wanted them!! I waited until they were on sale! Great stuff! Thanks!!!!!
Dear ScoutCrafter from Puerto Madryn, Argentina. Cheers for your interesting tool restoration videos. I would like to send you a photograph of a vintage i am Utica drop forged Number 13-A "WW1 Signal Corp Linesman plier", I inherited from an uncle who brought it from Europe after WW 2. Yours truly Atila Esteban Gosztonyi
Hello Tamas! YES ! Klein and other companies often rebrand their tools... One such tool Klein has produced in Germany is their Classic Klaw Pliers, lots of companies also use IREGA adjustable wrenches made in Spain! Good stuff! Thanks so much!!!!
I know Irega... good stuff. I was just shocked because W Germany, that is prior to 90's and the shape and size is strange.is like a small linesman but the cutter is strange. Just looked on some older videos that you posted..... They look exactley like the HAFEWE Germany that you said were included in Porsche tool kits. Only difference is that mine are branded Klein W Germany.
Hello Katie!!! LOL When I was younger I was so embarrassed by this accent! However over the years you realize that it is part of you and learn to accept it... I'm from Queens, in NYC... Next to Brooklyn and nobody can devastate the english language like we can! LOL If it were any worse we could be like the navajo Code talkers of WW2 where only we can understand each other! =) Funny right!? Did you see "my cousin Vinny" when the judge asks "Did you say Youts?" =D Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
ScoutCrafter I live in Boston so I’m used to the northern accents, originally being from Texas it’s quite the difference lol. But yours is very subtle and soothing it’s not annoying like a lot of people who force their accent, anyway good video as always it’s like a 3 for 1 special take care!!!
I remember seeing a gentleman that looked like u in saint George Utah. This was before I discovered your channel .they guy said to me give them I'll take it to them or ill take them and he extended his hand . Right away I new he was talking about tools . I think it was you .was it you ? Had to be.
Hello Dave! You should receive the package tomorrow or Monday if things are slow... I will email the tracking #! Great stuff!!!!!!! =)
Fancy 'Stuff' Now! = )
They arrived this afternoon. Lydia and I opened them right away. She wanted to see them as much as I did. Never seen better.
Thanks John.
Old Sneelock's Workshop Dave, I'm so happy... It was a very rewarding project knowing you would enjoy them! 😃👍
I have some klein tools that got from them in the past live 30 miles from there
Another excellent video !
Hello Tony! This was a fun project and so happy to give something back to Dave who has helped all of us in one way or another! Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
I've got an 8" set of those fencing pliers with the markings to indicate that they were made by Crescent and the model number was 1000-8.
Hello ETN! The Bell System had a whole line of awesome tools most notably their sweet hammer! Looks different then most! Thanks so much!!!!!!
Another great video, thanks for sharing, and yes Thor copper/hide hammers are magnificent. Regards from 'across the pond' 👍🏻
Hello TD! I'm sure you have one! You have a beautiful collection of top notch tools!!! I saw this Thor hammer on Tom Lipton's channel and had to have one! Just a beauty!!! Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
Your excitement about Old Sneelock at the beginning of this video is infectious. It made me smile too. Nice restorations “plier guy”. 😀
Hello Jill! I have learned a lot from Dave! The funny thing is I bet you don't look at pliers the same way now... They are one of the most underrated and under appreciated tools! They deserve better! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!
ScoutCrafter, no I do not. I want to become a “plier girl”. 😃
Hello Tron! I can't believe how nice all three of the came out! They were really great pliers!!! Thanks so much!
I have one similar to 3:40 fencing pliers
Very good quality but the nurling and jaws are not quite the same !
Mine are from cresant tools 8"
And I keep it in my tool kit and use it often!
Great restoration of the Pliers Scoutcrafter and keep up the great work

Great job again!
Hello Dirtyharry! Thanks very much!!! Hopefully Dave will get the package tonight! 😃👍
hi Scout Crafter the little openings in the slip joint pliers are for old spring type hose clamps for cars or appliances without those groves they are hard to remove
Very nice restoration.
Hi Frank!! Thanks so much! Have a great weekend!!!
Beautiful job Scout
Hello Wayne!!!! Thanks so much!!!!!! I really appreciate that!!!!
i think set 3 are tyre fitters pliers to remove weights and the tip to pull out the old valve from the wheel rim just a thought Scoutcrafter
Hello Robert! That could be it! The tips of those pliers are really interesting!!! I wish I knew!!!! Thanks!!
Another great video. And on "real" tools too. ;-)
Hello Will! LOL Yes! These are worthy of praise but it's fun sometimes to see those unfortunate fails that never had a chance! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!!
i have some Bell System tools,my neighbor worked for the phone company. nice job as always, hope your enjoying the heat...
Hello Roger! The Bell system stuff was great!!!!!! Do you have the Bell Hammer! How great is that!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!
actually i have 3 hammers, one is a claw hammer and the other 2 are sledge type
Once you have them looking so good how do you preserve that finish on tools that are going to be used regularly?
Really good 👍
Very nice job
I'm starting to dream of pliers!! And ill check his channel
Hello TJ! Look at my video titled "Odds & Ends, New Acquisitions and Upcoming Projects" it's about 5 minutes in... =) Thanks!!!!!
Nice variety of pliers..again "U" do great work...You must have more pliers than the Museums...always after finished... I won't want to use them...
Hello Blackie! It's funny but I thought at first I wouldn't use them but now I look forward to using them! I just won't toss them on the floor or dirt... Thanks so much!!! 😃👍
A good video. And a great job.
Hi Ron!! Thanks so much!! Have a great Weekend!!!!!!
Thanks for giving my one of my favorite new hobbies, I just did a pipe wrench that I found in a box of free stuff on the road. I use tools for practice before I work on guns. I wish you would set up an Instagram account to share pictures of these tools.
Hello William! When the weather gets cooler I am going to try to set up a page where we can all share out projects!!!!!! Thanks so much!!!!!
That would really be awesome!! Great idea👍
That is a pretty good idea, it would be so cool to see everyone’s before and after shots, because we’ll all know what your favorite part is.
LOL =D
😃👍. Semper Fi!
Is it possible that the slip pliers were used by somebody like a piano maker/tuner to string and tension the wires?
Hello Curmudgeon! It is very possible, I think Pianos have square tuning bolts! Maybe!? They really are interesting and would love to know their background!!!! Thanks so much!!!
Great video
Hello James! Thanks so much! Have a great weekend!!!
been waiting on new vid great stuff as always
Hello Robert! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Have a great weekend!!!!!
Quel talent, trés beaux outils
Hello Pascal!!!! Thanks very much!!!!!!
Ronnie I have a beautiful collection of Lionel! Never even heard of the pliers! Thanks!
Thanks!!!!!
There is a Klein tool factory here in Cedar Rapids Iowa
Hello Time Table! Do they have Factory tours? Awesome!!!
ScoutCrafter unfortunately I have no idea. I just drove by it for the first time a couple days ago
I wish I had hair like that
LMAO!!! That is too funny! Thanks very much!!!!!!!!
Yours truly

Hei , off topic. Did you ever herd of a KLEIN pliers made in W Germany??
Для чего нужны нижние плоскогубцы на фото в начале видео и в каких работах их используют?????
If you don’t mind me asking where are you from? I’m trying to place your accent I’m guessing jersey or philly?
Amo ferramentas
Great restoration, I enjoy your videos, I do subscribe to "Old Sneelocks Workshop".
