Glad to see that they kept some of the old world lore surrounding Ushoran, or the ghoul kings/strigoi in general. Granted the background for their appearance and mentality is altered. I think it's a good way to build on the foundation that is already there, and it's a nice little nod to the fans of the old world. Hope future GW releases will give more nods to the old vampire bloodlines (the soulblight allegiance abilities do, but only slightly). Back in fantasy the different bloodlines offered very different playstyles.
Flesh Eater Courts was the first Battletome I read when Age of Sigmar came out. All of the stories where they see glints of their true forms through the delution had me hooked. GW should release just a few new models for the FEC if they update their Battletome. Would make them even better. Maybe a twist on some of the old Britonnian models. Lady of the Lake or Grail Relique would be amazing to try and "flesh out".
Are you excited for the Beasts of Chaos Battletome? I liked the Chaos factions but not enough to go past reading the Tome. BUT NOW! I'm polishing my goat horns and calling for the fall of civilisation.
What! They’re not!? They basically are and it’s refreshing seeing the twisted creativity on display. Take a good knightly faction and make them “evil” undead. They should do the same with Tomb Kings. Take them from undead mummies and make them a faction of order. Maybe old spirits that inhabit constructs so you take the unique Ushabti element and put a twist on it. Just rambling now.
What fun! A Death faction that hates Nagash! Finally, some folks out there in Shyish see him for the big jerk he is. I also find it interesting that this Death faction is actually full of living folks. I wonder, does consuming flesh in anyway extend their lives as it does with Khorne worshippers? Or do ghouls expire after the same amount of time as a human? I was always under the impression that Nagash intentionally cursed this faction to roam around with their madness. It's actually far more interesting to see how they came about almost by accident. I think what always frustrates me about Nagash is that he thinks he's all that and has dozens of plans that go off pretty much as intended and has all these perfectly loyal and mindless servants around him whereas someone with like Sigmar or Alarielle, it's very clear where they've made mistakes and bad decisions and they always have to balance these with the people they serve. They're a lot like modern political officials where they do invest their people with some limited form of power in driving the course of their rule. Nagash, on the other hand, claims no duty to the people. He's like any general dictator where he thinks he should be in charge just because something (cough, Sigmar) made him in charge. Seeing a portion of his people sort of rebel after a fashion tells me that perhaps there is some mad, twisted glimmer of hope within the Realm of Death. I can't wait for Nagash to get his just desserts one day...
Agree with some of what you've said there, but Alarielle in particular certainly has done things for entirely selfish reasons - watch the last lore video where 2+ talks about Alarielle deleting the memory of a load of the Sylvaneth. As for Sigmar, in the Soul Wars book I think there's a bit where Sigmar is talking to one of the Stormcasts and he says himself that it's hard for any god, himself included, to accept that they're wrong about anything. Nagash takes it to a whole new level, but they all have a bit of that in them. Having said that, I'd love for Vlad von Carstein to make a return to AoS, leading an independant Death faction made up of undead and living troops (Sylvania returned!) - I agree that having all the Death forces ultimately answering to Nagash isn't as much fun :-)
When it comes to Alarielle, we aren't exactly sure why she nuked the memory of the Sylvaneth. I myself theorize that the method of creation of the Spite-Revenants was some awful depravity that the Outcasts fell to or some choice of theirs that could potentially be replicated by the other Sylvaneth. In defense of the rest of the race, she got rid of all memory of whatever terrible choice or ritual or corruption that created the Spite-Revenants. Maybe not the best approach, but from that point of view, I can understand why she did it. Of course, we'll never know. Sigmar could be contentious for taking the heroes that later became Stormcast Eternals from their homes and fields of battle, leaving their lands to be utterly destroyed. I think Vandus Hammerhand himself struggles with this utter eradication when returning to Aqshy in Gates of Azyr and other early Realmgate Wars stories. The thing is, the gods of Order can't win with public relations all the time, similar to how world leaders can't always stay in good graces all the time. A truly rogue Death force with von Carstein I'd be in for. Nagash should really have his leadership challenged and threatened either from within by Arkhan the Black (which I believe was hinted at in Soul Wars) or from without by a vengeful von Carstein; not just a little miffed that his ritual was slightly messed up by some lousy Skaven. But when it comes to models for this uprising, I like painting armor and heraldry. All the fleshy grossness of the Flesh Eater Courts isn't for me, regardless of their awesome anti-Nagash political stance. #comebackCarstein
Could you please reorder this lore series playlist. It plays out of order and is really frustrating to find the correct order. /rant. Really digging these lore videos even two years later. Thanks for doing these!
Just what I was waiting for! I don't read AoS novels, yet, but I think there is a great plot to be had with some force trying to negotiate and ally with a Flesh Eaters Court. Think of Lord of the Rings when Aragorn shows up with a ghost army, but Aragorn is a Storm cast and the ghosts are hallucinating cannibals
I mean, GHB19 added the Tenebrous Court Mercenaries whom are FEC who work for whatever army needs their aid. I see them seeing themselves as these noble wandering heroes, saving maidens and all of the tropes
I know I’m very late to this video, but I just am starting age of Sigmar with my buddies starting brand new with the fourth edition and flesheater court is my first Sigmar army. I just wanted to thank you for having these lore videos. It’s a good way for me to learn about my new army and it makes me very happy.
You should be the person that introduces all new players to AOS. For a better understanding and greater appreciation of their army. It would create more fluff based games. Keep up the good work 2+
A Sub factions created out of a faction is Really cool. Like the horde of Tamurkhan and his many many Chaos worrior followers that actually becomes a horde of Nurgle himself. But initially it is “just” a extreemly massive and powerfull chaotic warband. ! And like the carrion King that was the amber that lit the flame of the flesheaters . Remember the seed /amber of the mightiest of then all is still there. Waiting for the spark to ignite the flames of the maggotlord!
I’m a Death player but I was never really interested in the Death-Eater Courts. Something about them being insane, cannibals just didn’t scratch that Undead itch. They almost seemed more like a Chaos faction to me but after this vid, I have to say, I’m intrigued and look forward to hearing more. Thanks!
Sorry but you know what happened to the carrion king once he created the first flesh eater courts? Or is it assumed that he continues on in the age of sigmar as either part of a household or still moving through the realms creating even more courts from those who have fallen on hard times
QUESTIONS!!!!Is there any particular reasons why the flesh eater courts are all male?or does the transformation into a ghoul renders the human, gender less? ,Also are all the ghouls human? , and last question can Ghoul Kings resist Nagash? Since this form of ghoul seemed to made out of the direct mutation of the Carrion Kings exposure to the tower and not a Necrotic magic of Nagash?.Awesome video! Specially with Halloween 🎃💀👹👻around the corner. Thanks very much 🧟♂️🧟♀️🧛🏻♂️🧟♀️🧟♀️
I'll hammer these out as best I can :) 1) not sure why all are modelled as men, but consider this: if you do a google search for emaciated/truly starving people you'll see that the differencesd between male and female forms declines. meaning they look more similar in their gaunt forms 2) All ghouls seem to be human from what we know so far. At least there are no stories for other races that I know of 3)Ghouls can indeed resist Nagash. Some see him as a golden god, others as the devil himself. Its simply a matter of that particular ghoul kings (distorted) opinion
2+Tough wow thank you very much for your prompt responses 🙏, I never realized how powerful this Ghoulish Curse is, I wonder tho, if a Ghoul King is destroyed ,does the ghoul horde under his spell die also or do they just become mindless feral and attack each other until all are dead? . Or can the Ghoul King transfer his mind/soul into another ghoul and use as a vessel, essentially making it immortal so long as he can hop scotch throughout his hordes. Thanks again, always looking forward to another awesome video.
I think it would have been better if you waited until October to cover these guys. But honestly the lore aos just keeps getting better I always like the look of the flesh eaters.
Man these guys are pretty cool. Reminds me of the Blood Angels, (my favorite legion), what with the permanent bloodlust wrapped in a warped reality involving their sire. It'd be pretty funny if my AoS army turned out to be Flesh Eaters to go along with my Blood Angels for 40k. Of course, this comparison sounds pretty damn heretical, so I should probably prepare for the inevitable purging, which I probably deserve having clearly strayed from The Emperor's Light. XD
See I have a problem with this faction. They are practically the only faction that Death really hates. They weren’t included in LoN, they abhor Nagash. As much as I love FEC, they feel like they are either being phased out, or will actually end up being put in Destruction
How do you figure that death hates them? THey are led by a vampire, so my thinking is that as long as they dont interfere with Nagash's plans... those vamps can have their little playthings lol.
My logic is, following the Necroquake, any of them that were living in Shyish probably died from the Death Magic wave, Vamps do use them, but even a vampire has to see the benefit of a mindless minion vs one that thinks he is of Royalty and is a filthy living thing. I see many points of contention between them. Regardless, great video mate! Keep em coming!
My character Hugh the Great Darkness Arch Daemon Emperor of Chaos Undivided hates Nagash, Sigmar and other gods of the Mortal Realms, also great video 2+tough my bro

Only took them 2 years, but your wish has been granted!

I keep telling people they are bretonians lol
What! They’re not!?
They basically are and it’s refreshing seeing the twisted creativity on display.

Totally agree! I'd go for this faction if I started death though the models are a bit dated unfortunately imo 😔
Between the whole bones motif and being actually alive, a Realm of Beasts Flesh Eater Court would be a natural fit.
Excellent point!!! I can see a court residing in the ribcage of a long dead beast... that would be amazing

No more Storm Cast please. :P Too predictable and they are incredibly boring as a faction.
That would be cool to see a Stormcast to convince the ghouls to fight for Sigmar while they get to eat the flesh of the God-King's enemies.
@@F3EDER Shut up Cato Sicarius! 😂😂😂

FEC is one of the most intriguing armies in AoS. Hands down.
Agreed!
You should be the person that introduces all new players to AOS. For a better understanding and greater appreciation of their army. It would create more fluff based games. Keep up the good work 2+
Thank you so much Spekd*! So Glad you enjoyed it!
That Nagash eternal punishment thing didn't seem to stick for Sigvald.
This was the first of your videos I watched. Painting a FEC for my son, needed some inspiration to get me painting again. I'm ready.
Another Great Lore Video! I just picked up Soul Wars thanks to you. 2 chapters in, having trouble putting it down.
That is the eternal curse of that book!
