No one understood what Mr. Zafar meant. Bach was a church cantor and organist and composed many organ pieces, for instance, the most popular Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.
It IS cool isn't it? Imagine the days when an organ was always powered by a non electric air pump (i.e. a couple of people had to be in the bellows room pumping in order for there to be enough air for a big instrument)
It's crazy that, despite their age, they're highly sophisticated engineering masterpieces. They're an instrument literally the size of a building, and they were made hundreds of years ago as well! It would take so long for a modern team to make one, let alone however many years ago they were first made.
I was thinking the same thing -- I can certainly hear these bass notes, but I wonder what it'd be like to stand there and *FEEL* this being played right in front of you. It has to be stupendous!
@@LMacNeill it is a most brilliant feeling. I have often been to a church with a big organ and I love going to the altar under it while it plays, everything vibrates so hard. It makes me think that if an instrument can achieve this, how would it be to be in the presence of God?
My God!! If you don't listen to this with an EXCELLENT pair of headphones, you are doing yourself a great disservice! What an amazing arrangement! And a fantastic performance!! Absolutely superb!!!
Wow I have a feeling that Herr Beethoven would have been looking down from above, and be sensationally surprised by this wonderful performance. I have heard it thousands of times, but to hear it on a grand organ was a sensational experience. Majesty, power, volume, emotional impact. Where else does a musician use all four limbs to produce music, and so brilliantly? Bravo.
@ Eugene Trollip If I were present at this performance I think my soul would separate from my material body for a good while as it really shook me deeply.
🎸🎻🎧🎤💛👌I really like the way Jonathan Scott plays the organ. He is a very professional organ player. Special thanks for the nice presentation to St. Nicolas' Church, Toulouse, France. Symphony No. 5 in c minor Op. 67 by Ludwig van Beethoven is simply stunning. I am a big fan of the composer. The Symphony No. 5 in C minor of Ludwig van Beethoven, Op. 67, was written between 1804 and 1808. It is one of the best-known compositions in classical music and one of the most frequently played symphonies, and it is widely considered one of the cornerstones of western music. First performed in Vienna's Theater an der Wien in 1808, the work achieved its prodigious reputation soon afterward. E. T. A. Hoffmann described the symphony as "one of the most important works of the time". As is typical of symphonies during the Classical period, Beethoven's Fifth Symphony has four movements. Big like.👌👍
The skill displayed by both the brothers never ceases to amaze me. Great playing and video quality - the camera angles perfectly complement the playing!
Never underestimate the versatility of the pipe organ! I thought to myself "well, this might be good." Blew me away! The different voices, the clarity, and as always, the power! Excellence!
I’ve had the honor of sitting inside of a pipe organ. It is so neat to feel and hear the microscopic burst air before it goes into the pipe and the resulting music comes out. The tune I heard was Bach’s Toccata & Fugue in d minor. Beethoven’s would have been just as magnificent.
Without a doubt one of the most INTENSE performances of this piece I have ever heard in my life. Fabulous. I'm crying a little and I think I need a drink.

What a sound! Notice that the manuals only go up to F and there doesn't appear to be any thumb pistons, just a few composition pedals which he hardly touches and hand registration. This instrument handles the orchestral transcription beautifully when it was obviously designed for other purposes. A exciting rendition, thank you Jonathan.
For those who haven't heard one of this marvels of the humanity in live When a deep note is played on it the entire place vibrates whit the note, it's magical
We can only imagine what this sounded like in person, to be in the church while this was being played. And he's doing what a true artist would do, which is to make strategic pauses in the playing of the symphony, which is to let the acoustics continue the composition, then let them exhaust themselves before continuing the melody.
The comments are amusing , funny and somewhat angry. I just enjoy watching someone with this much talent recreate such grand music on an organ in a beautiful cathedral. Buttons, keys and pedals! I wouldn’t have the first clue but still I am enthralled! Thank you so much.
I have never heard a transcription of this piece for organ. This is fantastic! Jonathan Scott is a musical genius! Thank you Jonathan for sharing your talents with the world!
Jonathan's transcription of this orchestral work = V for Victory! Allowing the opening notes to reverberate completely set the pace of the piece for me. The echo and a breath, I was ready to listen. Magnificently performed and recorded. Thanks guys!

To me the organ sounds at once ancient and futuristic.
