Agree with others. Love the bloopers at the end. Honestly though that Fireside-Bob Ross-chat at the very end needs to be a RUclips offering all om its own. Offer those pearls of wisdom in a series of shorts
I love your videos because it's no frills, no bs, just quality content.. you don't have the most expensive tools like others on RUclips and you just feel like a regular professional homeowner! Thank you for your service!
Matts videos are great. just a normal, knowledgeable guy sharing his stuff with the rest of us. Being a homeowner, I can appreciate a lot of what he finds. Imagine being the guy you bought the house from coming across this video and thinking " I knew we did a crap job putting that door in"
Gosh you’re good. I was about to say brush strokes are made with love. Then you said love strokes lol I wondered how the foam got on the j-panel lol love the words from Matt.
Wow, Matt, the home repair expert, and Matthew, the philosopher. Two for the price of one. What a deal! Great video as always, Matt...Matthew...Matt...
Love your bloopers at the end of every video they always bring a smile and laughter 😂, great video too I always enjoy the explanation for how you are doing things you are a great teacher Matt thank you!!
You lost me quite a while ago, probably because I'm tired and I've had a fuel beers, but it looks qs though you Concord it, even though you launch me along the way; I'm glad you fixed it lol. Your great, a real fixer!
Look man, I watch a lot of RUclips home repair stuff - probably more than I ought - and you're just the best. I don't subscribe to anyone else in the genre. Love what you put out.
Remember Matt. This is your world...and in your world, you can have as many or as few brush strokes as you want. No mistakes, just happy accidents 😊🤗 🎨 🖌️
My house that was built in 1965 had all of the original windows in it. They were held in basically the same way. Oddly they had shims between the frames and rough opening but no hardware. The brick mould on the outside and the trim on the inside was what held them in. My interior and exterior doors appear to be done the same way.
Great job! Should hold up for many more years. Pro tip; A rockwool knife works wonders at trimming excess foam. Also, the Loctite brand foam, available in white, has a tighter cellular structure, better adhesion to most surfaces, great flexibility and cheaper price, is far superior than Great Stuff.
@TheFixerHomeRepair I used PVC brick mold around my 3 entry doors and it's been holding my Anderson storm doors without any issues for past 5 years. Give it a try.
PVC molding would have been a good choice for such exposed wood. I always paint the cut bottom of trim before installing to help keep water from getting to it. Nice video though. I enjoy watching them. Also HATE the spray foam! Haha
am i days late? yes. have i been more absent from the internet the last couple months than since i was when i was a child? also yes. anyways, all that to just say i always appreciate how approachable you make everything feel on here (also not to sound like A Youth ™️ but the affirmation asmr (yes i know of bob ross), though albeit hilarious, is so unbelievably soothing)
I just installed a storm door for my mother - her doorframe had nothing fastening it to the house except for the finishing nails in the exterior casing - it was a bigger job than it should have been. But the 45 minute install on the Anderson door was accurate.
I just did these same job on our home. However I also replaced the j channel since it was jacked up. At this point, I have not painted the PVC brick mold. I was not sure paint would not stick.
One thing I've long wondered is how to insulate an entire HOUSE whose exterior walls (plaster-on-lath inside, unsheathed cedar siding outside) never had ANY insulation.
If you can send a Contractor to my home just like you, that would be great um yeah. And if you can have that Contractor come over on Saturday and Sunday that would be great. Ok 😂
I'm just so tickled by your Bob Ross impersonation at the end...😅 I think this project took quite a while and maybe you were just a little spent toward the end? Anyway, great job on this and thank you for showing us all the areas the previous exterior door failed, why, and how not too repeat those choices in the replacement process. I really wished you had that waterproofing tape handy. I guess the foam will do? It does look quite secure and hopefully won't allow for water intrusion when the the rain ☔ 🌧️ comes. 🎉👏🏾🌞🙋🏾
Like around the frame? Everything that had rot was before it would have hit the waterproofing. I think it was just lack of maintenance. Paint, clearing snow, those kinds of easily forgotten chores. Anyway, 30 years didn’t do much to the door. 🤷♂️
@@TheFixerHomeRepair No, not around the door frame. I mean water flushing are needed around the perimeter of the door. Install flashing at the bottom, you need to remove the door. The. Install door. Install head flashing beneath the house wrap. Then tap flashing around the exterior side of the door, sides then top, omit the bottom to let waste to escape.

I'm 65 & still learning tips & tricks. Thanks! Your Oregon Viewer.
Will I ever do this, no. Will I watch all this video, yes. 🙂🙂
Ikr 💯
Yes likely true for me too but these videos help me understand my house better 👍🏼❤️
My exact thoughts.
Gosh you’re good. I was about to say brush strokes are made with love. Then you said love strokes lol I wondered how the foam got on the j-panel lol love the words from Matt.
34:44 You go, Bob Ross! This project is how many go. You never know what you're going to find once you dig in.
Wow, Matt, the home repair expert, and Matthew, the philosopher. Two for the price of one. What a deal! Great video as always, Matt...Matthew...Matt...
Awesome as usual. I use my oscillating tool to trim the spray foam nice and flush. Either method yields great results. Great work.

I use my multitool to cut the spray foam. Love the videos keep them coming.
Gorgeous job
Great video Matt......very funny stuff at the end lol. Learning a lot here.
love the bloopers at the end (& the lil bit of Bob Ross remnants too 🤣) have a great weekend y'all 💕
Damn, Matt pumping these things out.
Happy, happy little door. 😊
Look man, I watch a lot of RUclips home repair stuff - probably more than I ought - and you're just the best. I don't subscribe to anyone else in the genre. Love what you put out.
Wow. This means a lot. Thank you!!
I like the channeling of Bob Ross at the end there.
Loved the Bob Ross type commentary at the end, especially "love strokes!"
Keep up the great work and videos!
Remember Matt. This is your world...and in your world, you can have as many or as few brush strokes as you want. No mistakes, just happy accidents 😊🤗 🎨 🖌️
Looks really good! Thank you for sharing!
Those white caps are ingenious.

The Fixer 👍
Awesome Matt!! I’ve used the your favorite tool to remove the spray foam .

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 at the words from Matthew at the end
good job !
Love the thoroughness.
Great job Matt, making a happy little door. 😊
Love your videos. Very informative. Keep up the how-to videos!
Love strokes 😂 great video it's never go to plan we used gap filling foam in England all the time.
Thank you for the video- I need to do this on some doors and now I know how! Especially love the bloopers!
Great job! Should hold up for many more years.

The painting at the end....lol. I dont know how Mrs. Camera lady doesn't just constantly laugh at you!
The Bob Ross outtake was hysterical😂
Very helpful. TY
Barkeepers friend works great for making the threshold look new. 😊
Fantastic
Very nicely done. Love the ending!
I see another cleaning out your dryer duct video in our future!! My husband hates spray foam too.
I like the pvc brick mold.
I do too! Thought about using it but I don’t trust it to hold a storm door. 🤷♂️
@TheFixerHomeRepair I used PVC brick mold around my 3 entry doors and it's been holding my Anderson storm doors without any issues for past 5 years. Give it a try.
👍
Great work, Matt. 👍☺️
Thanks! 😁😁
A boxcutter (carpet knife) is a good tool for the spray foam. You just need to have a long blade on it. 🙂
PVC molding would have been a good choice for such exposed wood. I always paint the cut bottom of trim before installing to help keep water from getting to it.
Nice video though. I enjoy watching them.
Also HATE the spray foam! Haha
Just a suggestion, for caulking, look for Big Stretch. Best caulking I have ever used.

Vine a aprender a cambiar el marco de la puerta y aprendí todo un poema😅😅
Nice job. Thanks for posting
Thank YOU for watching! 👍
Really like your content, but love your outtakes 😂

Hahahahaha!! The very end -Bob Ross 😂😂😂😂
❤ bloopers
The vibratory multi tool is the best way to cut spray foam I have found.
Yes! Will definitely use that next time!
I just did these same job on our home. However I also replaced the j channel since it was jacked up.
At this point, I have not painted the PVC brick mold. I was not sure paint would not stick.
Great bloopers 😂
I don't even own a house and I still watch!
ok Miagi san, wax on wax off, helpful vid too.
I need a hour long podcast about the grievances with spray foam lol
🤣
😂Love the Bob Ross
20:50 I was always using just serated kitchen knife from Victorinox for $5
WD40 works well on spray foam, and it will clean out the tube as well, a few drops in tube and it dissolves it. Good as new.
💖

Happy little brush, happy little door 😂
😁🤣

I use utility knife with long blade to cut a foam
Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross merged into a bearded handyman.
❤❤
thanks Mr Bob Ross Rogers
Hi just watch you video just wondering if what kind or brand is your weather strip? Looks more better than what I have with my door.
I need to do this but I need to widen the door opening to 36inches. Hubby is very apprehensive.
What was the Husky tool you were using to pull nails?
What is that piece of millwork referred to that the storm door recesses into?
A spare hacksaw blade is the better tool for trimming that foam (source: lots and lots of foam)
Noted!!
Kaizen Foam knife, the best thing for it! Get it James
My front door has jamb extensions on the hinge side, no insulation, and is out of level.
"Hey, someone painted me. Because they cared." 😂😂😂😂
💖💖💖💖🙏🙏
Lol you're funny
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Couldn't you use the multi-tool to cut that foam?
How did Matt manage to get high on low VOC pain while outside?
What's up with the Dewalt miter saw? Does Ryobi know? My Ryobi tools are concerned for you.
The bob ross bit at the end was amazing 😂
At 34:40 you start to sound like Bob Ross. YWell, You are painting a tree if you think about it... 😅
Omg you just said spray foam lol
🤣
I’m watching I have a lot of worms that I open up.
Who watches the kids when you guys are filming?
My wife. The person filming is not my wife. 😁
@TheFixerHomeRepair Oh haha - my bad for assuming!
Haha no problem. Happens all the time! Thanks for watching!!
I think the water problem is because of no water proofing material installed around the door permiter. This fix is just for appearance only.
Like around the frame? Everything that had rot was before it would have hit the waterproofing. I think it was just lack of maintenance. Paint, clearing snow, those kinds of easily forgotten chores. Anyway, 30 years didn’t do much to the door. 🤷♂️

After installing the base flashing, applying caulking on top of base flashing, then put the door back.
Right, so around the frame.
On your Left, your other Left.
