I just love this review. your vibe is what Leica needs to tap into a young generation of creators (I DO NOT MEAN INFLUENCERS). I shoot with the Leica SL2 and it's my travel camera and daily carry and that's with the big heavy lens'... but that "Leica Flex" you were talking about is a legit FLEX. My shoulder is bagged after a long day. I'm getting into Australia tomorrow and I'm going to see if i can pick one of these up. ty
Awwwe wow thanks for leaving this nice review. Made me blush. I looove the SL2S. Was sooo close to getting one but I think I want to wait to see what the SL3 has in store. Cant waaait. Have fun in Aussie land!
I love the Leica Q3 Personal preferences should help. Have one setting for camera B&W and another 3:2 Color. The same with Video Cinematic 4k or 8k. But before you start the personal preferences by pressing a function button for longer than a second will give you the choices or menu Item that You may want. Example 1st function button on the left just right of the Leica Camera I have turned that into the Digital Zoom. The Function Button next to it I changed it to Film Style Leica Looks Menu. The Dial I changed that to the Auto Exposure Lock on/off. I have been watching Red Dot Forum with Dave, and Josh which have taught me a lot with the questions that are asked from the viewers on their Saturday Night Live Streams. They are based out of the Miami Leica Store. Cheers!
The two function buttons are also exclusive to photo/video modes! So if you want them to be the same in terms of having the function 1 button stay as digital crop from example, you’d have to be in video mode and hold down the function 1 button and make sure to customize that as digital crop as well.
The Match Technical Rubber lens cap is worth considering: It fits the Q series cameras perfectly and also works to cover my other 49mm diameter lenses.
8:26 The tilt screen is almost impossible to open from the side and can be very tight opening from the bottom BUT it opens from the top very easily. So even if you want to tilt it up instead of down, pull from the top and then tip it back in and down. Easy peasy
You hit all point I experienced with my Q3. It's a great camera, but people should do there own research before buying into it, otherwise they will get dissappointed. I have a small channel I record my talking heads with my Q3 and people get mad in the comments, because the AF is not so great :D As a stills camera it's basically the ultimate luxury point and shoot you could get. Regarding the ergonomics I agree with you. I was always a bit surprised why so many people complain about specially the thumb rest. Me personally got the JJC grip, which provides a grip like usual camera and it provides protection against scratches for the buttom. And again regarding ergonomics, if you think this is "bad" - try out the Nikon Zf ... you won't find a place to rest your thumb :D Great video sharing your experience with your Q3!
Thanks for also sharing your experiences with your Q3! Awe thats annoying if the AF is acting cray. But hey extra comments tho! ahhaha. Should I try the ZF? Hmmm
I bought the Think Tank Speed Change V3.0 Camera case and I can carry 4 extra batteries, Battery Charger, Cell Phone Power Bank Cables, SD Cards, Cleaning Cloth, Dummy Battery, etc. Did a video and it only weighs 3 lbs. with everything inside of it. Cheers!
This camera looks really cool.. but for the price I just don’t see the appeal in today’s market with the Z8, A7RV, R5.. you get significantly better video and auto focus.. I can’t imagine the Lens is THAT much better either.. I’m sure it’s top tier but I dunno.. looks wise it’s great.. I’m sure having one Lens has its appeal and the option for different focal lengths via crop is cool.. but the other 3 cameras mentioned can pretty much do that.. I think I’d have to try one to get it. I see the appeal of the Fuji x100v because of the size/weight and recipes.. but this one feels like it’s a show off camera mostly 😂
I was using the A7R2 for 7yrs+ before upgrading to 7R5 my top 3 fav improvements - excellent eye/face AF -Improved IBIS so easier to use lower SS in poor lighting … I try not to use High ISO for 60MP sensor - The additional customise buttons and touch screen functionality The Downside is the body starting to feel too bulky and heavy for a mirrorless system… I remember buying the A7R for its light compact body compared to FF DSLR
I feel like, you'd love an A7Cii / A7CR ? Lenses you could slap on there to have similar and light experience: Sony 28 F2.0, Sony 24 F2.8 , Sony 40 F2.5, Sigma 35 F2.0, Sigma 24 F2 I know we can't quite match size and aperture of the leica lens, but maybe bokeh and low light are more than good enough to care. Would love to hear your opinion on those.
I have a Q2 and love it. I’d go for a Q3 but can’t afford the upgrade and having the flip screen isn’t quite worth the extra cost. The only real drawback for me is the size of the (amazing) lens which makes it less easy to pack away in a non camera bag and more noticeable when carrying. Did you feel that? Maybe it’s just me because my other camera (an M11) has smaller lenses.
I never packed it away it was always on my neck for the most part. It would fit nicely in something like a sling bag if you want something small. Happy to hear you love your q2. 🥰 thanks for sharing your experience
Great review, and my feelings probably very similar to yours: Love the Leica color profile & lenses, but for me, the $$$ is not justified given the other limitations of the Q3.
Thanks for the great video! These videos don’t make themselves. In July after many years of being a digicam/small sensor point and shoot enthusiast I bought my first full frame camera, Sony A7 IV(not a Leica). I saw a lot RUclipss and loved the “idea” of owning a Q2,Q3. The colors. The mythical/magical Leica look. No need to edit in post. The compactness. And I was curious about that certain Je Ne se quoi that everyone talks about. But there seemed to be a little too much I’d be giving up yet still paying the premium price tag. Adequate, yet not great auto focus, (this would bother me). No flippy screen for selfies, (say what you want it would be my $6k.). No video stabilization. The one lens is all you’d get, cant swap it. And come, on these cameras are awfully expensive. I have to say, sometimes I still wonder what it’d be like, but then Sony released the A7CR, which on paper has the same 60mp sensor, more tech, (AI), better hand held stabilization, better selection of compact interchangeable lenses, and more clicky buttons and dials to play with for geeks like me who like that type of thing. All in a very compact size that is 1/2 the price of a Q3. That will be the next camera for me. Maybe one day I may experience all that Lieca goodness, but today there seems like better options at a lower price.
Thanks sooo much for watching and writing your experiences here. It means a lot 🙏 a74 is still an excellent choice and I hope you get to try a Leica one day. Would love to hear if you experience that je ne sai quoi haha. Doesn’t that mean I don’t know in French? I took it in highschool so I don’t remember much
Nice review! The camera looks great, but like you mention in the video, the "spill over" from Lumix cameras (who actually manufacture Leica cameras these days) is noteworthy. I appreciate its built to Leica standards, but I can't help but feel you are just paying for a high-grade version of one of Lumix's S series cameras, albeit in rangefinder-style and ofc with Leica colours. Tho the latter looks like its going to begin rolling out to Lumix cameras, after the addition of a Leica picture profile in the recent Lumix G9 MKII release. Unlike Lumix cameras, the fact the Q3 will retain its value is a massive plus if I was going to invest that much $$$ in one however.
Your battery situation is more with having your phone connected to your Q3 than the Q3 itself, the battery last way way LONG when NOT connected to your phone via BLUE TOOTH until after you are done for the day!
@@atolavisuals Do you have your LEICA FOTOS set up on your phone? if so, the cam is connecting to it and that eats up your battery life, if NOT you may have a FAULTY battery.
@@MARKLINMAN1 naw I didn’t set it up caz I use my computer to dump footage. I think I just film a lot all day. I def still need two or three batteries even with my other cameras
"figurative and literal" price..consumers pay for the "beauty of a Leica" and you "sacrifice some of the pain in looking good"..haha the cons you mentioned are really valid and good points..you would think for the price point and seeing other brands solve some of their issues...Leica would figure out some of its issues and "quirks"..by now..i.e..seperate video/photo switch/modes..etc etc..of course no camera is perfect..but Leica's reputation historically it should be a "smoother" experience all around for the price points of their mirrorless cameras..haha
The Q3 is a nice looking camera and it carries the Leica name but unfortunately that's all it has going for it. To many other camers on the market out perform it and have many more advanced features and acurracy for less than half the price. At $6000 for the Q3 it's hard to swallow for a camera with to many shortcomings.
Only thing you can't buy with that much money with other brands are the build material quality, literally no other brand has that metal body aesthetic, lens micro contrast rendering is unique, and user experience is top notch. The other brands are better in the technology stuff but yet Leica focused on the UI UX not only on camera but also the mobile app. It has the nicest app out in the market, unbeatable. Once Leica catches up in AF, they will be the camera everyone will want to get. They are already top tier in colour out of camera, weather sealing(excluding the M), and low light beasts for the current gen ones. Imagine when their AF catches up to Nikon, Canon and Sony. Panasonic has taken a step closer in which Leica shares the technology, I have full faith they will match the technology in less than half a decade. Internal storage, battery design, and the simplicity. Give it 1-2 years every other manufacturer will implement this. Hasselblad and Leica are leading the way outside of Autofocus. And tbh blazing fast autofocus is overrated, I've shot fighter jets, f1 cars, street, portraits, landscape, long exposure etc, and most of these can be done with single focus or manual focus
“…but unfortunately (sic… the Leica name) that’s all it has going for it”. Yup… Why buy a European super car, when you can get from A to B in a Ford Taurus? Better gas mileage, Cheaper insurance…
thank you for your frankness but at $6000 they are absolutely not worth it! We're talking about a compact here! I got the A7R5 for snappy focus and just shoot away & the Q3 to slow things down and appreciate the process
Every camera has it uses! How do you like the a7r5? I still have my r2. It was the camera that put me on to Sony

my top 3 fav improvements

Definitely the A7R5 … my wife can now take sharp portraits of me
Long press the function buttons to assign functions. That’s how I quickly change some settings to be the same between photo and video.

Does it has a mechanical Shutter. If yes - what shutter count is realistic for the shutter to survive?
Where is the box in the unboxing or is it used?
