"Yes, I messed up the in-car audio in this video. My mistake. Will improve for the next one!" - Doug. I don't think that's on purpose. It does look like he knows about the problem, so that's good enough for me.
+Belligerent There are plenty of automotive journalists that tactfully say when they don't feel the asking price is worth it. They still get cars, and viewers/readers give them more credibility for their honest opinions. The one time I recall Doug actually stating a dissenting opinion was in reference to the Corvette ZR1's price. It was a nice change.
He hates pretty much any sports car that is not a Ferrari, Porsche, or Lamborghini. He panned the McLaren, as well as the aforementioned ZR1. Oddly, a while back he said the D90 was terrible. Recently, He bought one and sang its praises.
What I love so much about Doug's car reviews, is the humor he puts in to the videos. You don't see that a lot with most car reviewers on RUclips. Good job Doug.
A couple of items of note and education. Scuderia Ferrari shields were an option on the 550. They were an option on the F355, too. Its 'Scuderia Ferrari' - literally, 'Ferrari stables', racing terminology. It was an affectation, a demonstration of support for the Ferrari racing team. Noteworthy regarding, Ferrari was originally a racing car company. The sale of road cars was to support the racing habits of Enzo Ferrari. If you see SF shields on a Ferrari prior to the F355, 550, or 456GT (where they were options), like the 348, 328, 308 (where they were not options), check the ownership heritage as authenticity was dismissed at some point during the cars' ownership history. They weren't available at the dealer before then and are also probably secured using an epoxy or resin, which can cause paint damage. When installed from the factory, the SF shield was placed directly to the car before painting. Also, at this point in the game, glow-in-the-dark interior trunk releases weren't federally mandated yet, so, logically, there is no way out. The blank switch in the dash is for optional lighting, like extra bright reverse lamps or additional brake lighting, maybe even a rear-shining fog light (those crazy Europeans). The seats are not 'surrounded' in CF, they ARE carbon fibre. The Carozzeria Scaglietti program let you customize the car as you wished during your order. This car was obviously ordered without consideration or care for the SF shields, as they were optional to add. It was assumed you didn't want them unless requested. All of the CF accoutrements inside the car were special order. The immobiliser issue is a non-issue. Ferrari correctly assumed that anyone who ordered a 550 intended to drive it when they got in, not sit for ten minutes texting or surfing and leave later (cell phones less a big deal at that time; no infotainment). There's no cup holders, that's a good clue. The door lock thing isn't a thing. It was common from the 80s to 90s for some cars to have this configuration. My 1985 Passat was also this way. The 550 was not the last stick V-12 by Ferrari, but probably close to iti. Produced at the same time was the 456GT (gone, not forgotten, shooting up in value currently). Ferrari have always been up to things no one knows about. There are even 2 California (V8) manual trans cars. You figure that one out for yourself when that was. Of minor detail, the 550 was one of the first production cars to feature the 'bump down' window which would automatically lower an inch to facilitate easier opening and closing of the doors (my 2003 Avalon could use this feature). MOST OF ALL completely overlooked detail, the 550 Maranello front width (track, measurement from the outside of one wheel hub to the width-wise measurement to the other) is wider than the rear track, which is the primary contributor to the overuse of the adjective 'linear' when describing the handling. Yes, I do forget to have fun when Doug posts a Ferrari video. Sorry Doug.
I love everything you put in there! Great work! I'm a person that LOVES that "the devil is in the details" thing & you had me riveted reading your message. Fantastic job man! You just gave a a few more "fun facts" about Ferraris I didnt know. I do know a guy that daily drive, not making this up, a black F50 for years in New Orleans. I rode in it once at a race track. His name is Jim Spiro. Look him up. He also owned the, I think, '63 Ferrari that won Le Mans. It went through Katrina in a parking garage then was sold & went back to Italy.
yeah, the sound sucks cause he kept the window open throughout the whole segment - he's almost screaming most of the time. He probably just wanted to listen to that v12
If you notice, the rear overhang is quite long as well. This is because it is made before the engineers started pushing the wheels to the outer corners of the vehicle(s). These remind me of the BMW 850, Ferrari Daytona, and others.....says Class instead of Flash......

As a german, I'm a bit confused. Most people here learn driving manual in driving school and then stick (hurhur) with it. Pretty much every one I know drives manual and there aren't many automatics, most people don't want one. But Doug keeps highlighting it whenever a car is manual and acts like it's something amazing and special. Are there really so little of them in the USA?
Handman6363 yes, there aren't that much manual cars in the US, but I know what you mean (An dieser Stelle übrigens Grüße von einem weiteren Deutschen :D)
Most people in europe are not wanting automatic transmission because its automatic, but because it's bloody expensive around here. 2000 - 5000€ extra to get automatic transmission, and of course they aren't offered in lower tier trims or even for some small cars at all.
part of the reason i own a manual car is that a lot of thieves cant drive stick. there have been many times when i have asked people to drive my car for me when i was tired, etc. and usually people cant unless they are a car enthusiast
Even better thief protection would be to drive a right hand drive model from the UK/Australia. Nobody's gonna steal that here in mainland europe, cause they would confuse the turn signals with the windshield wipers all the time.
People care way to much about that. Many cars, even in the highest spec have blank switches. That way you can add some accessories and you don't have to drill the dashboard for additional switches.
Emir Demirovski in this case, as he said, this model supposed to blend in. I bet they had those switches manufactured for other model and they fit, but in order to match switch panel with the rest cockpit with width, they had to add one blank.
George it's a small world in the sense that 559 Superamericas were ever produced and I came across someone who, like me, has an uncle who owns one. Look up what the intended meaning of the phase "it's a small world" is.
Yeah, but you're on a ferrari video... Aside from a video specific to the 575M, *this* is about as likely a place to find someone who has a relation to the car. Don't be so surprised.
honestly I do not know if you replied this genuinely or just because those autotrader "funny" comments are getting annoying. in the second case you are my hero haha
Back in 2000 I was on my first vacation to Europe and driving from Monaco to Milan. A 550 blew past me when I was driving through a tunnel, and the gorgeous V12 sound made me realize that yes, I was in Italy!
That front overhang is actually pretty short, _by Ferrari standards_, from their stuff in the 80s to mid 90s (or, like 2008, if you count Maserati coupes following the same lineage).
"How does it feel to get behind the wheel...?" Like everything the Masersti Gran Sport/Turismo wanted to be but just wasn't, quite. I'd assume. I doubt I could've been more disappointed driving a low-mileage exotic than my brief spin in that GS.
I have a 1999 Plymouth Neon with no airbags, fuel gauge, parking brake, 5th gear, seat belts, door panel, speedometer, or odometer. Do you think I should email him and have him check it out. You know it'll be a classic car soon.
Ikr, or the 250 (and 250 GTO) Ferrari always made FR cars (minus Le Man cars like the P2) and only started making MR road cars after Lambo made the Miura. You'd think a guy who reviews car for a living wouldn't say ("it isn't mid engined like a Ferrari")
I've been saying for ages that the 550 would double in price due to the 6 speed, FR layout, NA V12, modest, yet classic styling and excellent drivability. Unfortunately for me, there were only a few times in my life where I could afford this car before the price spike, but never a time where I could both afford and maintain one of these masterpieces : ( Truly one of my favorite cars of all time. It's looks are quite timeless in my opinion, which is something that doesn't happen often, especially nowadays. Cheers
So true…affording to purchase and then to maintain are just out of most every-day, working-person’s budget…. meh…. this is where the Japanese cars fill the gap…. oh well…
Give two or three minutes of space to car owners. Ask them why they decided to buy the car you review and they loaned to you, what they love about it, what they hate because they are owners - everyday users etc. RUclips is free. It will cost you nothing. And it will make your videos more attractive.
look at the California t review and the 488gtb review in one of them he shows his face and gets called a douchebag the others doesn't show him and everyone in the comment section somehow starts to say nice things to him even though he was the same person
This is absolutely one of my favorite modern Ferraris. It's not about speed as much as it's about class, style, and obvious but muted competence with a more mature presence. Great car.
He honestly needs to review the Aston Martin DBS; it's one of THE BEST V12 cars with a standard manual, and it's just a fantastic car all around. I saw (and heard) a gorgeous Sterling silver example while I was in Brooklyn a few months ago and the sound of that V12 was intoxicating! Oh and did I mention it was gorgeous?? Since Doug finds front-engone V12's with standard manuals so appealing, how could he not consider the DBS????
Actually there is another handy way to open the trunk without using the switch. All you need to do is to find a little flap located behind the driver seat at the parcel shelf and pull it to open. Then you will see a handle under it where you need to pull that to manually release the trunk.
This is my dream car since I sat in it at a Ferrari manifestation in France for the release of the 360 Modena years and years ago. The 550 is the most gorgeous car I have ever seen
For some reason I really like this model. Usually I would stick to a v8 mid engine layout, like the F430/360 modena/458 italia, but this one is special for me.
regarding the difference between 360 and 550... a mid-engined Ferrari is for when you drive 10 miles to the mountain road. a front-engined V12 Ferrari is for when you drive 10 hours to the mountain road. Putting the Tourer in GT
None of these cars are worth the money, they have just become collector items. You can get a new corvette or porsche for less that are better in every way.
What Jeff means is that he has never driven anything close to this Ferrari, but likes Corvettes and Porsches more, though he probably has never driven either of them either.
Jacob Grafius Porsche gt3 rs. You can get one for the same price as the 550. But it's a new top of the line Porsche that's faster than this. And imo just as good looking (if not better)
woa this is a fast car, and one of my dream! I remember enjoying my life driving this car back in the early 2000 in need for speed 3. It's in the A class cars!
Well, Ferrari actually thought about opening the boot without the need to have the car started. There's a little handle hidden behind the drivers seat under the "carpet" cover on the top. It's actually more useabble than for example miata in this way, because you can get to the handle while being outside of the car just with the door open.
GTO of the 90s. I'd shave the emblems, and daily drive it. Anyone who knows wassup, knows wassup,no badges needed. I think he left out the "ground effects" belly pan.
A great review of the Maranello! However I missed the Doug-score on it. Here is my suggestion 9 styling 8 acc 8 handling 8 fun factor 8 cool factor Weekend category 41 6 features 6 comfort 7 quality 4 practical 8 value Daily category 31 Total score 72

Same. Except I was playing on PC. That game definitely made me fall in love with the 550!
I assume the blank switch is where the rear fog light switch would be, as it's standard in Europe, but you don't require them in the US
Just install the rear fog then! My 9000 Aeros always had 'em.
Which is crazy. Lots of Americans run their front fogs 24/7, but in my experience, rear fogs are more likely to save you.

The blank switch is for rear fog lights on a euro-spec model.
Bill Weismann y do they remove it in the us spec model?
ThundeRed T Probably some legal thing
Makes sense.
They don’t remove them. My 2003 Saab 9-3 had rear fog lights.

Back in 2000 I was on my first vacation to Europe and driving from Monaco to Milan. A 550 blew past me when I was driving through a tunnel, and the gorgeous V12 sound made me realize that yes, I was in Italy!
bad boys 2
In bad boys its 575 version.
The Family Man
Internet Guy they look the same
Your 110 % right✌🏻
@@Victor_2000s they actually used both. It was an error in continuity. Next time you watch it look closely you'll see both by the front bumpers
I just noticed it looks like a combination of a Supra and a Corvette of the same era.
I thought it looked more like an early 2000s mustang
Stephen Mason it does look like a supra/Mustang. It's the Will Smith drove in Bad Boys 2.
Stephen Mason agreed
Kind looks like a old porsh will a long front
Ethan Ryan ya porshe carerra gt with long hood
carbon fiyyyberr
That front overhang is actually pretty short, _by Ferrari standards_, from their stuff in the 80s to mid 90s (or, like 2008, if you count Maserati coupes following the same lineage).
"How does it feel to get behind the wheel...?"
Like everything the Masersti Gran Sport/Turismo wanted to be but just wasn't, quite. I'd assume. I doubt I could've been more disappointed driving a low-mileage exotic than my brief spin in that GS.
Doug, your filming and editing techniques are drastically improving! Excellent stuff!
11:17 - 11:25 ...I agree...you speak for all of us....that 1 second sacrificed to 60mph just to get that manual gate feel...!!! 👍😉
The way you say "carbon fiber".... very distinctive.
Willy Willy it's kinda like CARbon FIber
Willy Willy faiber
Actually his "HERE" his very distinctive...
Heeerrreee, Heeerrreee, Heeerrreee & Heeerrreee...
you don't want your carbon fayber to catch on fayer from a wayer that rubbed on the tayers
I have a 1999 Plymouth Neon with no airbags, fuel gauge, parking brake, 5th gear, seat belts, door panel, speedometer, or odometer. Do you think I should email him and have him check it out. You know it'll be a classic car soon.
My God, what happened to this car?
I bought it off some dude in the hood real cheap because I needed a temporary backup when my engine blew up in my new car.
Ah. Solid choice
The stop button will be to turn the compressor off for the a/c. You can still have chilled air but not using the comp ie fridge pump
I think its like a resurrected modern Daytona.
magicmarkerDiscogangster Correct. That was the idea. Most self proclaimed car folks aren't aware of that, thus the moronic comments. Cheers.
that was the goal! the real ferrari was back!
Ferrari Supra
Ferrari Supra
Watched this, now back to JayEmm on Cars for context.
I love these older 550 marshmallows, such classic lines
Doug, I think your videos are great, but please figure out your mic situation!
I wanted this car since ive seen it in Bad Boys 2
I've been saying for ages that the 550 would double in price due to the 6 speed, FR layout, NA V12, modest, yet classic styling and excellent drivability. Unfortunately for me, there were only a few times in my life where I could afford this car before the price spike, but never a time where I could both afford and maintain one of these masterpieces : ( Truly one of my favorite cars of all time. It's looks are quite timeless in my opinion, which is something that doesn't happen often, especially nowadays. Cheers
So true…affording to purchase and then to maintain are just out of most every-day, working-person’s budget…. meh…. this is where the Japanese cars fill the gap…. oh well…
It's $200k+ now in 2023. 😤😤😤🙄🙄🙄😮💨😮💨😮💨
Always liked the shifter in these. They were gated great, and the stick didn't stick up crazy high like in the 355 and some others.
Doug, please invest in a better mic.
I've wanted this car ever since bad boys 2
LOL, its not the same car. the one in the movie is a 575. LOL
Louis Lewis Yes it is, they used both the 550 and 575 in bad boys 2
Lambochaser it was the dashboard!
"Shoot outside! Pay Attention to what you're doing!"
Give two or three minutes of space to car owners. Ask them why they decided to buy the car you review and they loaned to you, what they love about it, what they hate because they are owners - everyday users etc. RUclips is free. It will cost you nothing. And it will make your videos more attractive.
Jiwik A Agreed. sometimes I cringe for the owners who bought the car with all the stupid features. the hummer h2 video comes to mind.
Couldn't agree more, his videos are missing experience input
Well that's also because some people do not want to be put in his videos for privacy
look at the California t review and the 488gtb review in one of them he shows his face and gets called a douchebag the others doesn't show him and everyone in the comment section somehow starts to say nice things to him even though he was the same person
This is absolutely one of my favorite modern Ferraris. It's not about speed as much as it's about class, style, and obvious but muted competence with a more mature presence. Great car.
I love the subtlety of this car. One of my favorite raris.
Dream come true
I think it was need for speed 3 high stakes that made me love this car
YES!!! ME TOO, I had that game when I was a little, always appreciated the Maranello's. High Stakes 4 Life!
Actually there is another handy way to open the trunk without using the switch. All you need to do is to find a little flap located behind the driver seat at the parcel shelf and pull it to open. Then you will see a handle under it where you need to pull that to manually release the trunk.
Did you own one?
☺️
This is my dream car since I sat in it at a Ferrari manifestation in France for the release of the 360 Modena years and years ago. The 550 is the most gorgeous car I have ever seen
love doug because he's a prime example that you don't need the best and most expensive camera and audio gear to get a big fan base
NFS3:HP just hit me in the face with that car, what a nostalgia
I think this is the Ferrari in bad boys 2. Except will smith's is in silver.
thats a 360 Modena with a V8
Silver 575 Maranello more like
Yes, since that movie came out in 2003.
"My daddy didnt leave me no trust fund"
Eddie Schaller yep
For some reason I really like this model. Usually I would stick to a v8 mid engine layout, like the F430/360 modena/458 italia, but this one is special for me.
the stop button on the AC stands for „stop using my engine power“ so it does make a lot of sense! I use it all the time :)
Can’t believe there was an age before the DougScore. It’s crazy how far we’ve come
regarding the difference between 360 and 550...
a mid-engined Ferrari is for when you drive 10 miles to the mountain road.
a front-engined V12 Ferrari is for when you drive 10 hours to the mountain road.
Putting the Tourer in GT
how about a car which isnt worth the money :)
None of these cars are worth the money, they have just become collector items. You can get a new corvette or porsche for less that are better in every way.
Jeff K What do you mean by "better in every way"? That's a pretty hefty claim to just throw around.
What Jeff means is that he has never driven anything close to this Ferrari, but likes Corvettes and Porsches more, though he probably has never driven either of them either.
Probably in every metric, like acceleration, roadholding and fuel economy.
This and the 360 modena were the Ferraris of my childhood
These cars were the last Ferraris built with a V12 engine + manual transmission
The 612 scaglieti had a manual transmission as opcion and ir was a front mounted V12, so did the 599 fiorano
GTO of the 90s.
I'd shave the emblems, and daily drive it.
Anyone who knows wassup, knows wassup,no badges needed.
I think he left out the "ground effects" belly pan.
Holy crap!! This is in Morristown!
impeccable finish on the door lock switches give the 150,000 price tag. Sarcasm....
It's always casual Friday for Doug.
Doug, I think you need a new camera, keeps changing volume levels.
(During the incar segment)
DisgruntledMeow it's the microphone, the camera is fine
DisgruntledMeow he records wid a i7
I thought this was a Toyota Supra at first glance.
Dear Doug, it's time to upgrade your camera and microphone game.
Omar Shehab no
yes
This, imo, is one of the best cars Ferrari ever made. Looks gorgeous, sounds epic and drives like a proper supercar
This is my favorite car in the world. NFS 3 had something to do with that.
One of my faves..due to need for speed high stakes for ps1
''it dosent look like a ferrari, the engine is in the front' ... the commendatore would have have beaten you with a belt for having said that
The only Ferrari that I'd love to drive is also front engined: the 1969 Daytona Spyder.
The next Ferrari owner I encounter, I'll make it a point not to acknowledge the car or the driver in any way. Apparently, it's so annoying.
I'll just say "more than you can afford pal"
Wouldn't that be more than "I" can afford pal? How in the Hell could you know what I can afford?
I Flick haha.. totally "The Fast and Furious" reference there...
Jeff K "Ferrari" 😂😂
This is my favorite ferrari of all time. Ever since I was a kid.
A great review of the Maranello! However I missed the Doug-score on it. Here is my suggestion

Doug, please review the gt86 frs brz ! Thank you
aaaaa
The 550M and the F355 are some of my favorite cars. So beautiful!
Woaaa in 3 years you made so much progress in your recording. I came back on this video after an other somebody on youtube said to go back on your comment about the FERRARI 550
Good job Doug
When's the 2017 model coming out
Eric Jang 575 came after it .
Eric Jang *sigh*
All Hail Shadow just a prank bro
You like the Shadow theme song or His world better?
Eric Jang good
Looks like a $50k car for $150k to me.
Lets be honest now. Nobody buy a 20 year old car for 150.000$ to actually use it. This is now solely a collectors item.
lets be honest. you are not the owner of any 20 year old 150k car
Tawfiqur Rahman
I am and it doesn’t get driven .
@@augnkn93043 lol doubt. Most Ferrari owners have other Ferraris, and these are the among the ones to drive. Other notable examples being 355, 360, and the 456.
MrDaburks
I’ve just got the one a 328. It’s uncomfortable. Haven’t driven it more than 200 miles in the last 3 years.
i would absolutely buy this car to drive it often. it was made to be both comfortable and fast.
Idk why but when I have trouble I watch doug’s video then i fall asleep before the inside quirks
The 550/575 Maranello series were very good looking cars.
Getting a little crazy with that wrist watch on black paint....3:42
i was in fear
